Hehe GingerPanther I'm currently sitting with my iPad resting on bump & thinking I may be feeling my first few kicks, have been having them over the last few days but becoming a bit more definite!

MrsMillions · 21/02/2013 14:17

Ginger - very funny about bump booting iPad!

Mine has been very wiggly today celebrating its half way point.

Dinky, mightbe - I had a shoe cull last night, can't believe how many I'm getting rid of but need the space and just wasn't wearing them.

Scan tomorrow!!

20 weeks today

SlouchingPanda · 21/02/2013 14:27

Just been to the ladies and realised I have my maternity tights on backwards. Lovely and roomy round my arse, mind you...

20+0 (In the words of Jon Bon Jovi: woooooaaaaah! I'm half way there!) Grin

dinkystinky · 21/02/2013 14:49

Lol at the ipad bashing bumps!

Slouching - I'm wearing maternity tights today and they're driving me crazy as the bloody gusset keeps trying to head for my knees. Back to trousers tomorrow for sure!

Hehee SlouchingPanda that song is going to be in my head the rest of the day now. I am looking forward to Monday my official 20 weeks too. Time has seemed to just fly by since 12 weeks which at the time felt like some long awaited milestone.

I have a dilemma. I have my old scan appointment on Monday and my new one the following monday. I am now feeling like I am so impatient and starting to talk myself into driving the whole way to my old place just to have the scan a week early. I am terrible I know...

Abzs · 21/02/2013 15:32

Definite earworm there SlouchingPanda. Covers up the tinnitus a bit...

Bought some bump bands yesterday (but not a pushchair). They seem good for keeping the kidneys warm and holding up the maternity jeans that are bit big yet even though I absolutely need them.

orangebubbles · 21/02/2013 15:55

Thanks calm looks good, shall put on list for consideration.

dinky how long were they in the stokke for? Seems like a hell of a lot of money if it's just for a few months but value if it'll take baby through to bed stage?

Mystery lol at your grape induced bowel movement!!

dinkystinky · 21/02/2013 16:52

Orange - DS1 was in stokke till DS2 came along (when we moved him to toddler bed) - 2.10.

DS2 was in stokke (extends to a full cot and then to cot bed if you want) till he was nearly 3.

By the time this baby is done with it, we'll have had best part of 9 years use out of it (I get a new mattress each time) so not bad value if you think of it that way...

Main advantage of the stokke mini cot IMO is that its tiny and so can fit easily into bedroom and be wheeled around/out of the way if need be.

Anyone want a brand new pair of black 40 or 60 denier black maternity tights size large? I bought a bargain in mothercare a few weeks ago, except the box said medium... And the tights are large. Can check denier if you want. Just pm me, seems a shame to throw them out, and the parking at the shopping centre to return would cost more than the tights!

dinkystinky · 21/02/2013 18:36

Cut - give Mothercare customer services a call if you have the receipt. They should send you the right size in the post enabling you to post the incorrect tights back to them.

After a day wrestling with maternity tights, I am now remembering why I prefer to wear trousers in pregnancy.

Evening ladies hope you are all well. Lots of good news about the scans. Mine's not until 25th March. My hospital does a 32 week scan as standard so I suppose I'm lucky in that respect.

In other news I've broken my little finger walking the dog. It got caught around the lead and she pulled. It's my pip joint and I have the option of an operation to straighten the finger out else it might heal crooked. The surgeon said the operation is best done under general anaesthetic, bit that's obviously not an option for me. It can be done under local. Has anyone ever had any experience of this?

AmaDablam · 21/02/2013 19:44

Grin slouching at the tights story! I have to look at mine really carefully in the morning to make sure I get them the right way. I have found I get on quite well with them though, although I agree the gusset can sit a little bit low dinky, which did make me feel a bit paranoid the other night when I wore a short dress to a party.

BadMiss I called my grandparents Oma and Opa too (I'm assuming similar pronunciation despite slightly different spelling) as my mum is Dutch. We are planning to use the same for my parents and my mum was dead chuffed when we suggested it. Borrowing from another language is an excellent idea, I think, if you're after a name that doesn't sound too "Grandma-ish". If that doesn't feel right though, I've always thought Nana is a good one. That's what MiL will be, with FiL being the more conventional Grandad, as this is what our nephews already call them and it seemed sensible to keep continuity between the cousins. (Well, actually they call them "Big Grandad and Little Nana", based on their appearances. Bizarrely the opposites would have worked quite neatly for my parents but I couldn't have brought myself to refer to my mum "Big Nana" especially as she is only big in the height department!!)

I bought a lovely maternity maxi dress from H&M in my lunch break today, a right bargain at £5 in the sale. Only problem is, I somehow seem to have lost it between leaving the office and getting home Confused. Really hoping it will still be by my desk when I get in tomorrow, although I swear I picked it up. What a dingbat (as DH kindly called me when I told him). Guess this is the start of "baby brain".....

CitizenOscar · 21/02/2013 19:54

Anyone else feel super pregnant all of a sudden? Have had to get my gym ball out & inflate it to get me off the sofa and give my poor organs (and baby) a bit more space!

DH nearly passed out when I said I was 5 months pregnant & therefore struggling to carry DS1 round the supermarket (he's been ill). Well, it's a bit of an exaggeration at 20+2 but not that much!

What have people with DC already told them about the new baby? We've told DS (20 months) that I've got a baby in my tummy & he's going to have a little brother or sister, and we've got a couple of books about it. He strokes my belly & says "baby" and today he kissed my belly. Grin

dinkystinky · 21/02/2013 20:14

Sashabella I broke my little finger years back playing football - first joint up from knuckle. Didn't do anything about it and now have noticeable bump in the finger but apart from that its fine. I'm not sure about GA in pregnancy but hopefully one of our resident medics can advise.

Ama - hope you find your dress.

Citizen - ds1 and ds2 know all about the baby. Ds2 stuffs toys up his top and tells me he is pregnant too.can't wait to see him try to bf his toys. Ds1 is nearly 7 and really interested in the science side of things - am trying to explain it without going into too many specifics...

AmaDablam · 21/02/2013 20:39

Sashabella I can't give any advice I'm afraid but just wanted to acknowledge your post and say ouch, poor you, sounds painful!

Dinky that made me chuckle about your DS - we went on holiday with 2 sets of friends with young kids earlier this year and there was a 2 month old breastfed baby in the group. One day the three older ones (girls aged 4 and 5 and a boy aged 3) came into the lounge with their tops pulled up, holding dollies or teddies to their nipples. The two girls told the boy in no uncertain terms that he could not feed his "baby" as he was a daddy not a mummy. He was most disgruntled about this!

BadMissM · 21/02/2013 20:42

My problem with the co-sleeping idea is the layout of our stupid bedroom, size of our bed, and the location of the door. I'll be able to fit a moses basket widthways next to the bed, but not a co-sleeper... Unless I can talk DH into swapping sides, but he's really not keen....

Hi PhieEl

Iclaudius Not any scan yet? That's a bit odd....

Guavas Got stretchmarks right at the beginning, silvery ones, with DD..

Um, what exemption certificate? No-one has mentioned this to me yet? !

Sashabella Ow for the finger.... but good that your hospital do a 32 week as standard....

Amadablam Mine was because my grandparents lived in South Africa, so from the Adrikaans side, I guess! Borrowing from other languages good. I quite like the Scandinavian Mormor and Morfar too... DD has Nana and Fafa and Mamie and Papy (her father is French)...

It seems forever til my scan...2 more weeks yet!

dinkystinky · 21/02/2013 20:54

Sasha - meant to say frozen peas in towel to regularly ice the finger helps bring swelling down and reduce the pain too.

OP posts:
VinegarDrinker · 21/02/2013 21:23

Just realised I didn't get a Mat B1 at my last appointment and I need to hand it in to work by 25 weeks to claim mat pay. Bummer. I really don't want to take a day off work and make a MW appointment just for that!

TotallyEggFlipped · 21/02/2013 21:25

Sasha Ask to talk to an anaesthetist about your options. they should be able to give you a nerve block that would provide very good operating conditions for the surgeon without you feeling any pain.

Supershiv1 · 21/02/2013 21:58

Jealous of all the movement talk and paranoid as my boobs appear to have deflated suddenly....
12th March is my scan and have a wk away before then (holiday wardrobe dilemmas I did not consider when booking).
Between no movement and dressing myself I Must relax!!!

Just a quick note to point out that mothercare has a half price sale on clothing. They also have a sale on pushchairs with 15% off if you spend over £100 - there's a code on the pushchair page of the main site (I can't find it now I'm on my mobile though) which you put in at the checkout.

So we have bought our pushchair Grin a cosatto giggle.

Sashabella0 · 21/02/2013 22:09

Thanks for all the advice. The finger isn't painful unless I move it. It is quite swollen and the surgeon is going to review it next week. I didn't ask if I would have reduced function if I didn't go ahead with the operation. If the only pro to an operation is aesthetics I think I'd rather leave it. Will keep you informed.

Oh I'm 18+1 by the way. Time is going so quickly! X

mysterymeg · 22/02/2013 07:25

Ouch sasha no advice here just sympathy.

Re grandparents my baby gets three sets! Spoilt little one! DMIL and SFIL are already grandparents and so will remain Nan and Grandad.

DF wants to be grandpa (as that is what we called his late father). As my own granny and grandma are still very much with us DM has settled on gran - which goes nicely with grandpa. They weren't worried about sounding too granparenty luckily.

Re DFIL and SMIL were not sure what they will be called yet - we only made contact last year after 30 years of DH not seeing them. Everything has gone really great and DH loves having them and his siblings in his life but the may end up being Grandad Bill and Nana Jean (*not their real names).

V nervous about 20 week scan later Confused had a nasty dream last night that I'd gone into premature labour. Will feel better once gone over 24 weeks I think.

20 + 0

Cheeseandbread · 22/02/2013 07:32

Thank you all for suggestions on granny names. I'm sure one of them mu mum will like.

dinky and ama your stories made me chuckle.

phie we are due date buddies! Grin welcome.

citizen I suddenly feel like my bump has got bigger!

sasha ouch for the finger.

paolo I hope the two ronnies or ronettes are doing well.

Congratulations to everyone else on good scans! It seems ages to wait until mine... I'll be having it at 21+2 as I'm on a residential the week I'm 20 weeks. Still not feeling much but then my placenta is anterior so I'm trying not to worry. Felt some almost fish flippy movements which I think was bean but not sure.

Off to take the cat for a flu jab at the vets in a mo.

Happy Friday everyone Smile
