Had my 20-week scan this morning, and all was well! Heart thumping away, all bits present and correct. Soooooo exciting!

I had been convinced it would be a boy, but actually it is a girl. I am thrilled either way but I'm glad that I know now so I can think seriously about names...

DifferentNow · 09/03/2013 11:52

Yay for Mini! The girls are really starting to outnumber the boys now!

SlouchingPanda · 09/03/2013 12:18

Different if it helps, I can talk extensively about my belly button. I am paranoid (surprise!) about getting a mega-outie as I've had a laparoscopy in the past. Also suffering from man-flu this week and have a horrid cough which is probably doing no favour for my belly button or my pelvic floor .

Just sitting here watching my bump wriggle and move. Can't believe there's an all-singing, all-dancing mini person in there!

photographerlady · 09/03/2013 12:39

lovely to you had a good scan mini

I just went out for a quick pickup of something from Next and ended up with a load of rompers and outfits. I need someone to take away my wallet.

What's everyone getting up to this weekend? and Happy Mother's (and mother's to be) Day in advance.

TotallyEggFlipped · 09/03/2013 12:45

Glad you had a good scan, mini

I saw the baby moving in my belly for the first time this morning. Got a bit of a surprise as I wasn't expecting to actually be able to SEE any movements yet.

I found it really hard to motivate myself to go out for a run this morning, but felt great once I eventually got going. Don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep it up. My enthusiasm seems to be waning and I actually had to stop and walk for the first time, so didn't go as far as usual. The thing is, when I do stop, I'll find it really hard and I'll miss it.

DifferentNow · 09/03/2013 13:04

Slouching hope you feel better soon.

Photographer I noticed that Next have their summer range online now. So many adorable outfits but with snow forecast here this week, I just can't envisage a time when I would be dressing a newborn in something so scant!

Totally am in awe of you going out running at this stage! I'm already waddling.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 09/03/2013 13:20

Hey everyone! Lots to catch up on.

Congrats on all the scans, wow there is lots of girls now!

I bought a pair of Mama Spanx tights from debenhams the other day, I don't really have a bump at all yet but I tried them on and they do stay up and are very comfy, you don't have to wear pants with them as there is a built in panty bit! And a bump and back support!

I recommend them, very comfy. The only stretchy bit is for your bump so they will definitely stay up. :)

dinkystinky · 09/03/2013 14:17

Congrats on scan Mini - and on the little girl too. Its going to be a pinktastic July.

Slouching - sorry to hear you are feeling ill: hope you feel better soon. Don't have a spreadsheet for tightwatch sadly but now you've mentioned it.....

Different now - I think its OK to worry/feel apprehensive, no matter what your stage, if first or subsequent pregnancy, if you have experienced loss or not - but don't let the worry take over and stop you enjoying your pregnancy. In hypnobirthing they do a visualisation exercise where you visualise pinning your worries to a balloon and letting it float away - sounds silly but found it to be surprisingly effective. My philosophy is that this is my last pregnancy and its going well - while I know bad things can and do happen, I am not going to expend any of my precious time and energy worrying about them - if they do happen, then that is when I will deal with them.

Totally - am with you on the wondering how long I can keep going on the cardio - I don't run but do body combat. Have already dropped the intensity (and fwiw i think a run walk combo is a good way to keep up your running) but its getting to the stage where the bump is starting to get in the way of knees and kicks. Am aiming to carry on till 30 weeks if I can, space permitting... Will keep on with Pilates, pt and light weights and pregnancy yoga till much later.

Photographer - sounds like you had quite a shopping spree! We are off to the London eye with both grandmas, lunch at the restaurant at the globe theatre then lights exhibition at the Hayward gallery tomorrow. Am looking forward to it. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Slouching - the weirdest thing for me to get my head round when I knew I was carrying ds1 and ds2 was that I had a willy growing in me :-)

OP posts:
TotallyEggFlipped · 09/03/2013 14:46

dinky I'm giggling at the thought of thinking about a willy growing inside you. I'm even more glad we're team yellow now!

SlouchingPanda · 09/03/2013 15:20

Oh god Shock a willy Shock - I'm with EggFlipped about Team Yellow!

Thanks for the man-flu sympathies. I'm on the mend now...

Thinkingof4 · 09/03/2013 16:07

Yaay go team yellow!! Added myself on, quite an even distribution so far

Guavasforbreakfast · 09/03/2013 16:32

Uh oh schro... Your suggestion of tights led to me buying them, a tankini, a top and some baby hats from debenhams as well. Someone needs to cut up my cards, won't be able to afford maternity leave at this rate... Confused

SundaySunshine · 09/03/2013 17:11

big I did laugh over your stretch mark scare, not least because I've done something very similar myself Grin

Congrats on all the great scan news (and all the pink teams which I'm still slightly Envy of). dinky I did giggle like a school girl about the willy reference Grin. DH is pleased as punch though. He says us girls can't gang up on him anymore - as if we do Wink

I'm in the oldie camp, I'll be 40 when this one is born (I was 36 when I had DD). I really wish I'd got my act together sooner, haven't got an excuse at all as DH is my high school sweetheart!

Can't remember who asked but my kicks can be felt on outside already, I'm 24wks so maybe a bit ahead of you. It's a great thing to share with your DH/OH, makes it much more real for them.

So I'm still struggling with a boys name, but I thought maybe we could play name swapsies with those of you having girls. My girls names were as follows:
Matilda, Clara, Esme
Now sadly redundant.

I've spent the morning painting the bathroom ceiling, and now vegging on the sofa whilst boy babe does somersaults (DH is watching Irish play rugby and is convinced boy babe is enjoying it too!)

Hope everyone who was poorly is feeling better today

24+1

Guavasforbreakfast · 09/03/2013 17:45

Big and Sunday I did that too re:stretchmark - totally freaked out about how early I was getting them and almost cried thinking I was bound to be a zebra by the end. Then it was gone by evening - turns out it was just one of those crease lines you get from sleeping in an odd position. Blush

Cheeseandbread · 09/03/2013 18:12

Hello Ladies and Paolo,

Wow lots has been going on over the last week! On my phone so it is all a blur but Dinky love the thought that there may be a willy growing inside me... Hopefully I'll find out on Tuesday.

I've been on residential in the Isle of Wight with 40 kids for the last week and am very very tired now... Lots of outdoor activities most including harnesses and ropes which I didn't take part in but cheered the kids on! One of my favourite comments from the kids was that I was a really good dancer and I had an extra person inside me! Another high point was during an activity where the kids got to win water bombs to throw at the teachers they didn't choose me as they didn't want to 'traumatise the baby'. My girls were also on bump watch and reckoned I was growing every half an hour and wanted to know if I would be on 'One born every minute'.

Congratulations on all the good scans. Loving the new stats thread.

Hope everyone is having lovely Saturdays!

princessllama · 09/03/2013 18:47

cheese, that is lovely, what nice children! can you imagine giving birth on tv-everything on show, screams and all.-anyone noticed how they almost all seem to give birth on their backs and, when they show everything, most of them don't seem to have any pubes...
we are team yellow here too.
i am 24 weeks too and dh can feel the bump kicking(i think he is a bit bored of it now). i love watching it in the bath.
i gave in and burnt the credit card on an aden and anais humungous muslin with red stars on, and a changing mat and (just to get my free delivery with boots, maternity pads and breast pads and newborn nappies-dh will think i am mad when he discovers).

different, i too had mc just b4 this and have been definitely more wary than with dd and ds. it's calming down now that i am 24 weeks. really looking forward to 28 weeks when i know the baby would have a good chance.
still struggling with constipation-i am drinking water like a mad woman and i think it's helping but chemist wouldn't give me anything useful until dr has confirmed it's ok.
happy mothers day to all of us for tomorrowSmile

princessllama · 09/03/2013 18:50

oh, and re reusable nappies, for those using them for first time, don't forget that you generally need to size up on clothes because of the lovely but ginormous bottom they have in reusables. wish we were using again this time but i misguidedly gave all mine away thinking i wouldn't have any more kids... can't face shelling out all over again even on ebay.

Princessllama, I was out a couple of weeks ago and I was talking about One Born Every Minute with a friend. She knows someone who works on the program and apparently they only have a maximum if three vagina shots per show to avoid complaints!!

PhieEl06 · 09/03/2013 19:48

Mini congratulations, glad everything went okay. I was the same, convinced it was a he but actually a she, nothing shocked me more!

photographer Next newborn things are lovely! I have a massive wish list of all the girly dresses already!

Giggling a lot at dinky hehehe! Team pink so not considering a willy growing inside of me but hehehehehe!

Sunday if we were having a boy it would be Henry, closely followed by Freddie, Flynn & Elijah but we're having a girl & cannot agree on a name. Slowly bringing OH round to the idea of Macy. Smile

Glad you had a nice week Cheese, sounds like you have a lovely class of children there!

Spocketta (mine & OH's name for bump) is kicking away like a mad one tonight, also in a great mood, found out today at my dance class I am going to be dancing at Her Majesty's Theatre again in November, was absolutely gutted when I realised I couldn't do my show in May because of my humongous size. Can't wait to get back to dancing properly again!

Guavasforbreakfast · 09/03/2013 20:14

Cheese your class sound wonderful. What year? Mine are awful since I've come back to work. Particularly bad Friday pm and I ended up giving them a (probably a bit unprofessional) guilt trip, as I was getting pain across bottom of my bump. The stress of not knowing what it was and having to sit down regularly in the middle of teaching (I don't have a desk/chair and spend most of the time on my feet unless working with a group) made my fuse incredibly short. Wish I had a lovely empathetic bunch like yours!
Feel like pregnancy is turning me into a rubbish teacher, and it doesn't help that I have the worst cohort in the school. I cannot WAIT for maternity leave.

Apologies all for the rant.

Cheeseandbread · 09/03/2013 20:24

I'm still feeling only minimal movement (at least that's what I think it is) sort of fish flippy feeling. I know there are others on here with anterior placentas and was wondering if you were feeling the same? Or with those that have had them before do the movements feel stronger over time?

On the age front I'm 29 but turn 30 at the beginning of August so if bean is late I may be 30 when he/she arrives. On a selfish note I'd prefer it if bean didn't arrive on my birthday!

dinkystinky · 09/03/2013 20:27

Evening all. Sounds like you had some lovely kids with you Cheese - good luck for your scan on Tuesday.

Princess - that sounds like a very practical shopping spree as you will definitely use all those things.

Sunday - boys names I loved which were vetoed by DH - Zachary, Alexander/Xander, Gabriel, Raphael, Milan, Taran, Ethan,Dylan. We user my favourites - Joshua and Daniel - for our boys and they suit them down to the ground. DH wants Jack if this one is a boy - am not hugely wild about it as can't be shortened to an affectionate nickname and so dc3 would be the only one in the family without a family nickname. Haven't even started arguing about girls names yet but ones vetoed by dh last time included Tanya, Anya, Willow and Susannah.

Phie - am in awe at you dancing. I love going to watch dance stuff but have 2 left feet - am trying to get the boys into dance young but fear am fighting a losing battle (ds1 likes breakdancing, DS2 likes twirling mostly).

Re reusable nappies do check what organisations/groups there are locally. We have a great group in our Borough who hold regular free second hand cloth nappy/maternity wear/baby clothes swaps, where you don't have to bring anything to take. I went to one last week and got some gorgeous coloured size 1 TotsBots, large wraps for DS and prefolds in both newborn and toddler size, plus a cute baby dress - all for free Grin

And don't forget a lot of Councils give you vouchers towards nappies too. We've probably spent less than £20 in total on cloth nappies in 2 years. For reusable wipes, we just use Ikea flannels (the ones with coloured tags on - so blue/green are for bum, orange/red kept in the kitchen for hands/faces!).

VinegarDrinker · 09/03/2013 20:34

Cheese we are almost the same age, I'll be 30 at the end of Aug :)

Lots of kicks tonight, DH has started being able to feel some too.

23+4 today - counting down til 24 weeks!
