I reckon I could also not know as although I'm feeling a bit sick every now and again I'm alright really and not any movement yet... Hmm So jealous of you all getting battered by your babies

MrsBri · 12/02/2013 18:16

Imagine how much worry you miss out on by not knowing!

I think baby is changing his routine a touch as I've felt him overnight when my leg pains wake me. Only moving though, he hasn't taken to kicking me overnight. He saves that for the day / evening.

And he still manages to do something that tickles me. God knows what!

Glad everything is OK after your alarming consultant, Oli. Wider baby though? I've told Baby B he can be long but not wide! ;-p

Mawgatron · 12/02/2013 18:19

Glad I'm not the only one who isn't really feeling too much in the way of movement! This is my first though, and they said that my placenta (our/his placenta?) is at the front - would that muffle feeling kicks?
Haven't really done masses yet either except the cot. Done a lot of looking, but not a huge amount of buying. Know what chest of drawers I want from ikea, and I think I'm going for an uppababy vista.
Got some hand me down baby clothes coming and I guess people will probably buy us quite a lot of clothes (first grandchild on both sides).
Am I stupid to be not that worried?

Olimoss · 12/02/2013 18:24

No idea MrsBri although somewhat concerned we are growing a giant as abdo circumference is on the 95th centile....eek.....but yes, all is ok so grateful for that!

Think it's locked in our decision to go for a private 30-week scan though, just to check in. Although today was stressful seeing the scan was also v reassuring.

AlohaMama · 12/02/2013 19:15

Sunny that sounds a bit crap, especially having to sort it all our yourself. Mind you I suppose it is one of those situations where if you don't sort it out yourself, all the work will be waiting for you when you get back?

mawgatron having a placenta at the front definitely muffles feeling. I have been feeling kicks probably ~2 weeks later than with ds, and as this is 2nd normally you'd expect to feel movement earlier (due to knowing what you're looking for).

oli you just have to hope baby has a small head! Having a 30 week scan will be good as they can give you a measurement then. We had a scan at I think 32 weeks which was the first point at which they decided ds was on the big side. I had another scan to check the size again and as a result was induced early, so he was born 10 d before due date, and came out at 9lb1oz.

Olimoss · 12/02/2013 19:42

Aloha - ah that's good to hear, will definitely do it I think! Other measurements are completely normal, just he has a giant belly. Maybe am growing a baby Santa, god knows....!

AlohaMama · 12/02/2013 20:54

oh that sounds kind of cute, little baby with big beachball belly Smile

redwellybluewelly · 12/02/2013 21:56

Sunny are you self employed? I was when I had DC1 and it was really tough running down contracts and then handing over hard earned work to others.

Sarah how are you feeling?

Scans are weird - I had one at 42 weeks which said DD was over 8 and a half pounds but she was only 6.13! I'm hoping this one is a little bigger as DD was so skinny! Baby bellies are v cute.

I've been feeling a lot of movement some days and very little other days, will be discussing with MW next week, baby has however figured out how to do somersaults which make me feel ever so slightly queasy!

OP posts:
MrsBri · 12/02/2013 22:09

Ah, redwelly...Baby B does flip flopping motions. It is nausea-provoking, isn't it?!

I have busy and quiet days too...today has been more movement than kicking, for instance. And if he's had a really busy day one day, he appears quieter the next!

I'm glad I don't have to find my own cover, Sunny, but then I'm not being covered as my manager is also pregnant, so we are running the files down in preparation for the majority of the post-lit team being off on maternity!

forgetmenots · 12/02/2013 22:38

Haha Mrs bri, mine does that too, kind of felt like going over speed bumps in a black cab... Until it started spinning/moving sideways! Never was a fan of roller coasters :)

Although I've been feeling baby for quite a few weeks, it's all been gentle and even the more sudden movements don't feel too strong, that must be where the anterior placenta comes in. Think a lot of the back pains have been kicks in that direction - no cushion there after all!

MrsBri · 13/02/2013 06:29

I don't do rollercoasters either, forget, but it appears that Baby B's body clock has changed and he now spends all night looping the loop :-/ Cute, but not when I can't sleep due to a hideously bunged nose.

Anybody else permanently bunged up?

Mawgatron · 13/02/2013 06:39

Yep, bunged up like nobodies business. It's quite irritating tbh! It's always much worse in the morning though.
Sunny, that sounds awful, what do you do for a living?
Makes me thankful that I am a teacher, so they have sort it for me. As if we don't have enough stress and worry without sorting our own cover out!

MrsBri · 13/02/2013 07:05

It is irritating, Maw. I'm going to find out if we can take / do anything as I really struggled to breathe overnight.

I find work doesn't help due to the awful air con.

Work wouldn't dare ask me to find my own replacement if I was being replaced! I'm full of sympathy, Sunny.

Only 3 days til we move house...psyching myself up now. :-)

redwellybluewelly · 13/02/2013 07:41

Olbas oil helps. I think the mucas thing is pretty normal (but frustrating) in pregnancy, my dear child has shared her throat/ear infection with me but because I took Monday off to care for her (DH did yesterday) then I cant take today off.

Latte(s) and sucky sweets will have to get me through today.

mrsbri enjoy the new house!

suzyrut · 13/02/2013 08:53

Morning ladies, I'm really bunged up but seems to be irritating dp more than me as apparently I've started snoring really badly, so badly he felt the need to do an impression of me the other night...charming!

Am off to see an osteopath this evening that specialises in pre and post natal back problems. Midwife said she would refer me to the NHS physio but the wait was quite long and my hips feel like they're now moving totally independently of me and if I sit down for more than 5 minutes I seize up, so will see how it goes.

xx

Littlemissexpecting · 13/02/2013 09:07

I don't think olbas oil is safe. Karvol is and so are menthol crystals.
I'm getting horrendous sinus pain on and off.

redwellybluewelly · 13/02/2013 09:13

well well you learn something evreryday, I have th baby one (for DD) and it doesn;t say anywhere on it not safe for use in pregnancy but apparently you're right - its a no no.

massagegirl · 13/02/2013 09:20

Oh dear. Steps away from the olbas oil. Got such a nasty cold had been the only thing to help... Oh well. Sniff sniff.

Sunbeam18 · 13/02/2013 09:25

Yikes, I took one of those albus sticks (that you put up your nose) last week. Will I have done damage?

SunnyL · 13/02/2013 11:26

Morning all. Made the cracking move of slicing the top off my finger yesterday. I have a super sexy bandage now. I'm also heading off to Sri Lanka tonight for 2 weeks with work. Now I'm planning a sob story at check in to try and get myself upgraded due to being an incontinent, pregnant wazzock with half a finger missing. Unfortunately colleagues have pointed out that my lack of bump and tiny bandage may scupper my plan for an upgrade.

AmIGoingMad · 13/02/2013 12:10

Aw sunny! How did you manage that?! Hope the Sri Lanka trip goes well and that you get some sympathetic check in staff!

I too am a teacher so they'll be finding cover for me thankfully. Would hate the stress of finding my own! Although I really hope they do a better job than my last mat cover who did hardly anything with the kids and I had less than a year to get through the gcse course with them when I got back with baby brain!

Hope all those who are feeling rubbish feel better soon! It's tiring enough without extra bits going wrong with our bodies! DS is all bunged up today so I'm expecting it to develop just before I go back to work next week.

Went to bravissimo yesterday to be fitted for new bras as mine were killing me and I'm so happy with the ones they found me. No wonder I was hurting- gone up a back size and two cups. Didn't take as long as I usually am in there either. Also got a really lovely maternity dress from red herring in debenhams- it's all lovely and bright and summery! Can wear with leggings and boots now, and with flip flops when I'm the size of a house late spring!

Oo- exciting about your move mrsbri- that seems to have come around quickly!

Sarah2506 · 13/02/2013 13:03

Dragged myself still feeling rough into work today and the description of Sunny as an incontinent pregnant wazzock with half a finger missing really made me smile. We have now finished all our planned travel pre baby, and no doubt for years to come! I tried for sympathy at one check in desk and to be 'helpful' they put me in the final row on the aisle next to the loo, which was cramped, noisy and the seat didn't recline. I made a point not to ask for any favours from airlines from then on!

Really wish I hadn't bothered today. Office is exploding as we lost a major bit of litigation - (you would have seen it on the news!!) - but not much I can do to help. Now a month until the major office move and really dreading the upheaval. Reckon will have the rest of the week off to recover:-)

LexiLexi · 13/02/2013 15:10

On the subject of stuffy noses, Sunbeam I think some of the essential oils used in the formula (poss Clove) are uterine stimulants so can increase the risk of you delivering your baby early. If it was last week and you haven't had any symptoms sure it will be fine.

We hired a Rug Doctor to do a final clean on the carpets before our Victorian house goes on the market this weekend. On starting the machine up, a terrible odour of wet dog was unleashed. Judging by the quantity of dog hair eventually removed from the machine, they may well have run a pet sanctuary. Myself and DP are both unfortunately allergic to some dogs, so stuffy noses made even worse. Apparently Sterimar nasal spray is fine to use during pregnancy too, so I'm high tailing it to the pharmacy this afternoon to stock up.

redwelly, Sunny and Sarah hope you all feel better soon!

suzyrut · 13/02/2013 16:50

Hope everyone gets better soon and that the check in people take pity on you sunny.

Good tips on nasal decongestants will try to pick up some karvol on the way home from osteo to save dh another sleepless night (he thinks he's got troubles now!) xx

SunnyL · 13/02/2013 18:04

Below is the emial i sent work this afternoon:

Before I tell you what I've done I would like to make it clear I have a known medical condition which can cause these things to happen. I believe has a policy that prevents its colleagues from discrimination and would also like to point out that what I've done is in no way related to my gender, my hair colour or my lack of intelligence quotient. It is a medical condition known by the name baby brain. People with baby brain are victims. Fact.

I was 24 hours early for my flight.

They wouldn't let me check in.

I'm going to work from home until they will let me check in.

Here is the email response I got from my boss:

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha h a hah a hah hahahahah ha ha hahahahah ah ha ha hah ha
Get used to it.
It doesn't stop when you are not pregnant.
Better than the wrong name on ticket ( I had to cancel and rebook a flight this week...) or being a day LATE.

My observation of this email exchange:

  1. I'm an idiot
  2. I work for a nice company

Thought it might amuse you.
