littlemiss - we have a name. we chose on for ds1 (we didn't find out gender that time) and we still love it. in fact i think we chose it about 8 years ago! sadly it is now on everybody's list of 'overpopular' names, but who cares we're sticking with it. nice not to have the stress of coming up with a new one which is why we were secretly glad this wasn't another boy

AlohaMama · 14/02/2013 20:14

mrsbri - bored? sit on sofa, feet up, watch a film. perfect!

SunnyL · 14/02/2013 20:42

Well bumps name varies depending who you ask. I refer to it as Babs or 'it', friend is calling it Elvis and mother is calling it some weird north of Scotland name.

When it becomes a baby though we have far better names in mind. I won on both accounts i.e. DH hasnt got either of the names he likes. Mind you i normally win so its not unusual.

AlohaMama · 14/02/2013 21:44

sunny, sounds like the kind of balance in a relationship that i like Grin

cyclecamper · 14/02/2013 21:56

sunny we call the bump Gladys, but have no idea of the sex. We haven't even really talked about what it is going to be called when it arrives. We'll probably be one of those couples standing outside the registry office still deciding Grin.

LexiLexi · 14/02/2013 22:53

So glad everything was ok Mrs Bri, hope you are able to wfh tomorrow.

Littlemiss, Rug Doctors are great and have worked miracles on our cream carpets, although they are a tad heavy (we have a Victorian house on lots of levels). We hired ours for two days, which I would recommend as it doesn't cost much more than a day's hire and would have felt too much work to do in one go.

Does anyone have a link to the names thread, please? We're ok for boys but completely stuck for girls! Agree Aloha, these name trends come and go so quickly anyway that it will hardly matter in later life. Hope The Royals don't end up naming their baby after ours tho!

Mawgatron · 15/02/2013 06:47

I love the good wife! I have watched every series so far and am considering downloading it all to watch again when I go on maternity ( have done this with true blood!)

Thank goodness mrs bri! I shit my pants when I had a bleed a few weeks ago, there is no worse feeling than thinking something is wrong. Blatantly take the day off. Frankly, I am looking for an excuse. Thank god for half term so I can catch up on marking.

Might show DH this thread, so he knows I am not the only one in my jammies the second I walk in the door!

I'm putting this out there, our boys name is Baxter. We loved it even before we were getting preggop. people seem to be getting used to it now, after the barrage of 'that is a dogs name' or 'that makes me think of soup'. If we were having a girl, we would have gone for freida. Guess we will save that for the next time.

Sarah2506 · 15/02/2013 07:19

We are pretty certain on names. We have a short lit of five- freya, Effie, Esme, Rosalie and Elsa. DH favours freya and I like Effie. However I don't think Effie is so good for an adult. Dr freya sounds ok but Dr Effie not so much. Also it's kind of short for Euphemia which neither of us like. So I reckon Freya it may well be..

AlohaMama · 15/02/2013 07:54

Oh I love Freya, such a pretty name. I agree Effie is cute but Euphemia not so much. Is there anything else it could be an abbreviation for, even if not typical? Like Fiona or something else beginning with f?

Sarah2506 · 15/02/2013 08:03

Well in Skins, which is where I first heard it, it was short for Elizabeth. If we call her that then we will then have to spend time forcing everyone to call her Effie. It's nice to discuss this on here as if people steal your names it doesn't matter and if they hate them then so what! I have learnt not to mention them in real life as I hate people's reactions!

AlohaMama · 15/02/2013 08:10

If you just introduce her as Effie people would soon pick up on it. They are all lovely names though.

Sunbeam18 · 15/02/2013 08:22

Morning! I have finally been paid this month and start buying some bump clothes. Suddenly nothing fits! Can anyone recommend where to get good quality soft leggings? I don't mind paying a bit for them as think they will be a wardrobe staple over the coming months.

Sunbeam18 · 15/02/2013 08:42

I love Freya and Esme Sarah. I'm in Scotland and Effie would not be a good name here as it's the name of an old lady character in Take The High Road (dodgy 80s Scottish soap)!

forgetmenots · 15/02/2013 09:10

I love Elsa :)

I'm all over the name threads, I love them! Think we have settled on Angus if bump is blue :)

suzyrut · 15/02/2013 09:16

Morning ladies, sorry mrsbri forgot you were moving tomorrow, good luck! Makes it way more important to rest up today!

sarah I love Effie, it's gorgeous. We have a name for dd, it's received such mixed reactions that I'm not telling anyone else in RL now until she's born when no one will dare say anything. Anyway it's Audrey (middle name probably Belle and she will have a 3 syllable surname), please think more Hepburn than Roberts!!

Sunbeam I bought some leggings from Topshop, they're nice and soft and they're staying up ok so far, can't vouche for how long that will last though!

xx

MrsBri · 15/02/2013 09:17

Well...I'm working from home, which is great. The commute is a killer, so it is fantastic to not have to do it. And to not have to answer the phone all day :-)

I love the name Freya. My friend has the name Esme too. It's unusual, so I'm quite surprised there's two of you choosing it! It's also lovely though :-)

New Look do a twin pack of leggings for 14 quid and they're over the bump and soft. Only online I think though, unless the bigger shops have them. Our locals ones don't stock them :-/

forgetmenots · 15/02/2013 09:44

Love Audrey, Suzy - classy choice :)

Sarah2506 · 15/02/2013 09:48

My top leggings tip is Sainsburys! The expensive ones, which are still only a tenner. They have something in them which begins with M - modal? I LIVE in leggings and these have been the best. I have now got to the point that regular clothes which still 'fit' are being stretched beyond recognition.

Great names - love Audrey and Angus:-) I am conscious that my choices are all influenced by popular culture. Effie from Skins, Rosalie and Esme from Twilight. Elsa was my next door neighbour. Freya was DH's choice. It was either that or something from Lord of the Rings - Arwen. Middle name is Lucy or Madeleine after my Granny.

forgetmenots · 15/02/2013 09:58

Sarah I second the Sainsburys tip - they also do fab yoga pants which stay up! And my favourite piece of bump clothing is from there (a smock style dress I bought in the sale!) thumbs up!

forgetmenots · 15/02/2013 09:59

PS I vote for Elsa Madeleine or Freya Lucy - all gorgeous names though :)

Olimoss · 15/02/2013 10:05

Very impressed with the quality of names so far!! We are still discussing although our shirt list is v short. Boyfriend has a nice, alliterative Italian surname but it's a bugger of a thing to get names to go with, so we are thinking something simple and short like Joe or Rex.

We will see. Audrey was on my list for a girl, I love it!

I have leggings from H&M and they've been great, and in fact their maternity footless tights have been a godsend, I got a few pairs and have them on rotation. I am also finding trousers just too uncomfortable so bought a few more stretchy jersey dresses online (H&M, Isabella Oliver and Gap) and reckon they'll now see me through to the end.

SunnyL · 15/02/2013 10:24

My DH said absolutely flat no to my boy name until he sat watching F1 and I pointed out that boring names don't tend to sound so good when they get on the podium. He is convinced our child is going to be an F1 champion so hey presto I got my more interesting boy name over his rubbish ones.

My girl name is technically a family name on DH's side but the reason I've picked it is nothing to do with it. I just like it.

I'm being superstitious though and won't share them with anyone. Even here.

Sunbeam18 · 15/02/2013 10:34

Great names! Rex is so cute, and Audrey very cool! My favourites at the moment are Keir and Theo. We also like Logie (my grandpa's name) xx
Thanks for the legging tips!

forgetmenots · 15/02/2013 10:41

Keir was on our list too Sunbeam, love it. :) definitely will be a traditional Scottish name one way or the other!

pinkapples · 15/02/2013 13:31

We think either Amelia or Rhiya for baby pink we have a mega short surname (3 letters) so have a 3 syllable middle name after hubby's sister who died
