Regarding the ergo carriers. What is the difference between the sport and the standard?

learnermummy · 08/03/2013 12:01

No idea littlemiss I'm afraid.

We have a 12 year old westie here who doesn't get walked as often as she should....

LexiLexi · 08/03/2013 12:22

pinkbear have you tried a Halti for your springer? We used them a lot at the dogs home with good results.

just wondering if anyone here has tried Cheeky Wipes or something similar? was quite perplexed when I saw some of the ingredients in the standard and even the eco baby wipes

hope everyone is having a good Friday, all good here, apart from a couple of scary noose bleeds...

pinkbear82 · 08/03/2013 12:41

Lexi - the harness or the nose type one? I had great success with the harness on my JRT ( she lives with my parents now) but the harness on springer doesn't seem so affective - not sure if its partly to do with DP not putting and effort on discipline in or just if its a mental dog Wink

cyclecamper · 08/03/2013 12:52

littlemiss The ergo website has a video that tells you the features of each type and explains which are best for what you want to do. I think the cassic one works best for short people like me.

LexiLexi · 08/03/2013 13:19

pinkbear we tended to use the nose haltis on younger, springier dogs so i reckon worth a try, though it does need to be combined with consistent training for the best results! In particular if your dog is a puller, never allow them through a gate, doorway etc before you (tho i know easier said than done with a cute, bounding puppy!)

thanks gina, learner and cyclecamper for the ergo info, will go and check them out

SunnyL · 08/03/2013 13:54

I got a halti for my mad collie x lab when I got pregnant. Didn't fancy going face down in the ice. This is despite her achieving her bronze and silver kennel club certificates. She behaves perfectly in obedience classes but is a monster outside of class.

My mother is a dog trainer and recommends Gentle Leaders over Haltis - apparently they are softer on the nose. We also had to ease our pooch into it i.e. just putting it on for 5-10 mins at a time, putting it on while she eats her dinner etc. If you just stick it on them and go for a walk it really stresses them out. I now find she is absolute bliss to walk - can't imagine doing without it now - and it means my fitness has barely dropped since I got pregnant.

pinkbear82 · 08/03/2013 14:34

Ooo lexi and sunny - will give them a try! Any tips on training DP as well Wink thank u ladies.

RueDeWakening · 08/03/2013 14:51

Littlemissexpecting · 08/03/2013 15:17

Sunbeam18 · 08/03/2013 15:25

Thanks, littlemiss. I was just having a look at lunchtime on Mothercare website. Bargains until 20-something of March. Some prams half price.

AlohaMama · 08/03/2013 16:20

Lexi I haven't heard of cheeky wipes but use cloth wipes, they are cotton on one side and terry towelling on other. I just use them with warm water and store them dry but tend to use disposable wipes when out. Presumably wouldn't make sense if you weren't using reusable nappies as you'd have to do separate wash just for wipes. Have to say I love them though, feels like you get baby much cleaner.

No dogs here but ds does require regular walking/running to tire him out!

suzyrut · 08/03/2013 16:39

Just heading off for the weekend, have guests till Sunday evening so will probably not have chance to catch up with dogs, wipes and leeky boobs until Monday.

May I be the first to wish you all a "very happy mothers day" on Sunday.

xx

pinkbear82 · 08/03/2013 17:05

I keep forgetting on the boob front - If DP goes anywhere near them he swears they are leaking - although from his reaction you'd assume it was pints pouring out. Personally I haven't discovered anything, not even the smallest dot. not that DP over reacts at all

Right just had txt from said drama queen telling me to be smart (I'm over looking I thought I was already!) for 7 - so better go see what fits and looks half decent!!

learnermummy · 08/03/2013 17:14

A friend of mine uses cheeky wipes and really rates them. As I'm on my last baby I'm not sure it's worth the investment especially as will need disposables for nursery. Plus I don't do washable nappies so presume would need a separate wash just for wipes. Some reviews complain that they're a bit small. I do think they'd be easier to clean baby with though as flannel would give a better 'grip' in the mess!
I've always used huggies pure wipes so will probably continue and they're often on £1/pack deals.

ella0 · 08/03/2013 17:39

Just to warn you all that the website for ergo carriers posted on the last page is not an authorised retailer. A quick google (and responses by ergo baby) has confirmed this; the prices are too good to be true and the site isn't even using the new logo. There are a lot of places selling fake ergos. I don't know if they're fake or not on this site, but personally I wouldn't risk buying one from an unauthorised retailer.

This is the official UK site:
www.ergobaby.eu/en/ergo_baby_products.html

cyclecamper · 08/03/2013 18:30

I wash wipes (and nappies come to that) in with a normal wash. I rinse the worst off and add them to the normal load. If I just have wipes I put them in a towel/bed clothes hot wash. They are so much nicer to use as flannels as well as bottom wipes - also to mop up spills and so on.

learnermummy · 08/03/2013 20:28

I have a stack of ikea flannels that I use for wiping hands and faces after eating and I guess you could make up your own version of the cheeky wipes kit with cheap flannels and a couple of tupperwares.

AmIGoingMad · 08/03/2013 20:50

Hello all! So happy the weekend's arrived! I'm shattered all of the time at the moment.

I noticed a tiny bit of damp on one side of my bra the other day but nothing since thank goodness!

I'm also a fan of the Huggies pure wipes. I tend to bulk buy them in the box of 9 packs as it always works out as about a pound a pack then thankfully.

Still undecided about which sling/ carrier and can't find a sling library locally unfortunately. Am hoping the I'll get the chance to sit down with DH this wkend and at least make a list of what we need to get. Having a list always makes me feel better!Smile

redwellybluewelly · 08/03/2013 21:07

AmI or anyone else if you want to pm me your location by nearest town I can check if there is a local sling library?

learnermummy · 08/03/2013 22:04

AmI I'm a list maker too. Unfortunately have 3 long lists

learnermummy · 08/03/2013 22:05

Oops
Have 3 long lists on the go and they're constantly being added to!

AlohaMama · 08/03/2013 23:31

I looooove lists. That's all I'm saying. One for new baby is disappointingly short as there just doesn't seem to be that much to do or buy....

Littlemissexpecting · 09/03/2013 07:09

Morning all!
I also love lists. DH says I make a list about a list about a list....
Currently on the go is: what I need to buy (nappies, cotton wool etc), things we might buy but not urgent (sling, steriliser), boy names, things to do in house before bump makes an appearance. And I've just wrote a shopping list for Sainsburys too!

The delights of cramp woke me up last night, 3 times !! I'm also wide awake very early but got my first aquanatal this morning so should be fun.

pinkapples · 09/03/2013 07:48

I love lists too but currently don't have one as my brain is mush so can't think straight or logically

Enjoy aqua natal littlemiss mines on a Sunday and I really enjoy it just an hour to be chilled is lovely Grin
