Arts - stats (damn phone!)

AlohaMama · 05/03/2013 22:22

sunny yes you will.

no of course not, there must be lots of other people in the same situation, plus those who don't have a dp to attend with them. i would have thought it would be useful info and he might be able to come to the odd class.

saying that, i've never been so haven't really got a clue what i'm talking about Grin

Sunbeam18 · 05/03/2013 22:23

Sunny, I think it would be fine to go to NCT alone, or you could take a friend? My DP can't make it to the first class so thought I would take a friend. I went to a class once with my friend who chose to have a baby on her own through assisted conception, and it was a welcoming environment. When does your block start? Ours is 28 April.

learnermummy · 05/03/2013 22:49

Go for it sunny, you'll be fine on your own. I met some great friend through NCT.

learnermummy · 06/03/2013 07:48

Urghh after 25 weeks of feeling ok I've woken up feeling awful this morning - headache, nausea, feel like I just need to lie down. Not sure how I'm going to do the school run! Luckily DH just taken DS2 to nursery so only have one to worry about.

MrsBri · 06/03/2013 09:09

Learner, I'm exactly the same. Feel rotten today...could definitely throw up at the drop of a hat.

Also over slept by 2 hours after not being able to get to sleep. Bit of a fail day.

On the way to work, but wish I'd called in sick now. Never mind, hopefully I'll perk up later!

learnermummy · 06/03/2013 09:31

Oh dear MrsBri, hope you manage the journey OK feeling like that. I just about managed the walk to school. Luckily my office is at home.

pinkbear82 · 06/03/2013 09:55

Sorry you are both feeling rough today - hope the day gets easier for u both - sending lots of hugs xx

suzyrut · 06/03/2013 10:23

Morning all, sorry you're having rough days, had one yesterday, blood pressure a bit up, swelling and massive headache. I took the day off and laid down and feel a bit better today.

I think this is our welcome to the 3rd trimester!!

xxx

Sunbeam18 · 06/03/2013 10:30

Interesting to hear about the change at 25 weeks...I'm the same! Was 25 weeks yesterday and felt baaaaad (headachy, blotchy skin, bad hair, grumpy!). Hope this isn't the shape of things to come! I've been totally well up until now x

RueDeWakening · 06/03/2013 11:04

I feel like death warmed up today. Appear to have caught flu-like virus from DH Hmm have eaten about a dozen grapes and 1 ice lolly since yesterday morning, and am still in bed - DH has the kids to look after today.

Meant to be getting 28 week bloods done today too, not gonna happen! Bleugh.

Sympathy for everyone else feeling rubbish too x

learnermummy · 06/03/2013 12:15

Oh dear sounds nasty Rue. My mum, dad and sister have all had a terrible flu virus for the last week, even though they all had the flu jab. I've avoided them, certainly don't want to be catching that one

pinkapples · 06/03/2013 12:55

Sorry to hear your all feeling rubbish I'm feeling good today after a week of sickness Grin

What is everyone's feeling on size clothes? I've been getting 0-3mths (loving the girls collection in tesco at the mo) but what's everyone else doing? Newborn/ up to 1 month,0-3months or is anyone getting bigger ones like 3-6months?

Curls78 · 06/03/2013 13:17

hi All - I am new to this thread (and to the site!). Due date 1st June (a boy!)

Re. clothes, we have just got a load of stuff from my MIL (hand me downs mainly). I have been wondering the same thing re. sizes. We have quite a few newborn sized things and ALOT of 0-3 and 3-6months.
I think I will be taking a selection to the hospital with me as you never know until the last minute (I had a friend who was told to expect a HUGE baby (at least 10lbs). When she arrived she was just over 6lbs! (everything swamped her

ginauk84 · 06/03/2013 13:55

Someone said to me it's not worth buying newborn and just to go straight for 0-3months? Don't know what other people's experience is?
We're lucky as sis in law has a baby girl who is now 4 months so we've got all her hand me downs so can buy the odd piece of expensive clothing as a treat as we don't have to worry about the rest.

Olimoss · 06/03/2013 14:06

We have a few newborn things but mostly 0-3 months as most people will buy the tiny things as gifts, etc. Or have told us they want to...basically we've been getting stuff from 3 months on, mostly, as hand me downs and gifts should fill all the remaining gaps.

I've been mining TKMaxx for bargains 3-6 and 6-9 and 9-12 months, particularly got some really nice jackets for the 6-9 months age when they poor babies will have to be rugged up....not looking forward to it!

Also am being a bit picky as I HATE HATE HATE all the cutesy stuff, so picking up bright things without twee animals and suchlike on it when I can find it. So far Gap, TKMaxx and Polarn O. Pyret have been the absolute best for that sort of non-twee stuff.

Littlemissexpecting · 06/03/2013 14:20

Hi all. I wrote a huge post this morning but it appears to have vanished!! Welcome all newbies!
I'm exhausted today, it seems I can't function on less than 8 hours sleep.
Had first nct class and it was really good. Only 7 more to go. There was 7 couples in total. My DH can't get time off work for all of them so I will be attending 2 or 3 on my own.
I can't wait to finish work. I finish on 3rd may using up annual leave, not due til 19th June. I can't imagine working any longer tbh, my job is very long hours and lots of driving so sooner I finish the better. Got my 25wk mw appt this week too so looking forward to that.
Sorry to hear some of you are not feeling too great.

Littlemissexpecting · 06/03/2013 14:22

Forgot to add, on the clothes front, we have bought mostly up to 1 month. Think in Mothercare that's up to 10.5lb. I might buy a pack of newborn vests and sleep suits closer to d day that I can return/exchange if we don't use. I've not bought any outfits yet as I've been told that's what people are likely to buy us.

suzyrut · 06/03/2013 14:50

Welcome and congratulations newbies!

I've bought a mixture, new born (primarily in vests and sleepsuits) as in my experience they can get drowned in 0-3 for the first couple of weeks, especially ones with built in scratch mits. Having said that one of my best friends had an 10lb 3oz baby and I had to do an emergency 0-3 month shop and dash to the hospital as none of her new born items fitted! Grrr babies, if only they'd be more predictable!

xx

learnermummy · 06/03/2013 15:04

Welcome Curls78!

It's really difficult with clothes sizing. My DS1 was 7lb and newborn clothes seemed to swamp him, whereas DS2 was 9lb 7 and almost bypassed newborn altogether. Depends on the shop too, Next always used to be huge compared to other places iirc. Hoping my baby girl isn't so huge!

redwellybluewelly · 06/03/2013 15:11

With regards clothes sizing shops don;t shut when you have had a babay - I was sent on an urgent errand from my sibling whose baby was smaller than expected!

I think 3 sleepsuits in newborn and 3 in 0-3 months and 6 vests in each size was a good place to start from. however different shops size clothes differently. Boots fitted DD lovely, as did Next but Mothercare was bigger, and Tescos HUGE! Also I bought quite a few clothes in the NCT sales and cut price items in the various stores and many DD never wore because she wasn't that shape or because she was the wrong size for the season!

We also bought unisex for DC1 (DD) and thats paid off because looking through the bag of Newborn -6months very little will have to be replaced.

ginauk84 · 06/03/2013 15:13

Me too! All our stuff from sis in law is baby pink and I just hate how it's all pink! So anything I have bought has been in bright funky colours as an just sick to death of seeing pale pink! So when she is going out she will wear the nice bright colours and the baby pink will just be for at home when I only we will see her lol!
Bought some nice stuff in asda's sale, didn't see much in tx max was all baby pink again lol!

SunnyL · 06/03/2013 15:28

Oh god please stop people. Its another one of those chains of messages that makes me feel bad. I haven't bought a single item of clothing. I've looked at them but they scare me.

Hoping we get lots of presents when babs is born otherwise it can just be a naked baby for a while.

AlohaMama · 06/03/2013 15:48

Oh sunny poor little naked baby!! I think you might just have to bite the bullet. to be fair, our ds hardly wore anything other than a nappy at home for month and months but in the summer here it was a struggle keeping him cool enough. I expect you're not going to have that problem there!

In terms of sizes, ds was 9lb1oz but he did still wear newborn clothes, but only for 10 days. I think even for him 0-3 would have been a bit baggy, so I'd definitely get newborn stuff, but maybe not too much. You can always leave some packets unopened and take back what you don't need.

I found most of the 0-6 months we have is very gender neutral but all the newborn stuff was trash (was already probably 4th hand and in storage has got all stained), so have bought the odd onesie and expect to get some more from friends. We can do without many clothes here, but if we end up moving back to England in Aug (looking more likely) I'm expecting to have to do a major shopping spree.

Hope all you sickly people get better soon. Take it easy, lie down and get dps/dhs to get you all a nice Brew

ginauk84 · 06/03/2013 16:17

Sorry, I am a super organised person and I just couldn't cope with leaving anything last minute, think I am too premature though as we have bought everything - pram, Moses basket, clothes, bottles, steriliser, have started stockpiling nappies. I even have started my hospital bag! But also it helps to buy things over time and not last minute in terms of finances too.
She's even on the waiting list for water babies in summer lol!
Trouble is I want her here now as we're ready lol, got to wait 4 months yet, hubby and I are very impatient people!
