Hi all

Am new here, am 24 weeks, due 27th June. Am thinking will probably finish work 31st May but am waiting on my MAT1 cert before giving them the final decision ? it?s difficult to know how I will feel! At the moment I get loads of pins and needles in my left leg when am sitting at my desk or driving so I hope that goes away soon!

She is our first baby so we do feel a little bit lost with everything to be honest. We decorated the nursery over Christmas as it?s the only real time hubby and I had off together and I wanted to help before I got much of a bump. I couldn?t do it now as I suffer from round ligament pain if I do too much so I wear a bump support from Mothercare ? life saver it is!!

I am labouring in a midwife unit where they only offer TENS and gas and air so am hoping that everything goes to plan. Was thinking about buying my own TENS machine from ebay as I suffer with back and neck pain normally so I could use it for that as well. So I need to do a bit of research on them.

I am very excited but sometimes a bit scared about how our life is going to change. A family member had a little boy yesterday and it was the first time I looked at the photo of him and realised just how amazing it is to be able to produce a baby ? I know that sounds silly but it just sort of hit me and I was completely in awe of him.

Hi gina! Saw your other thread and was going to reply, glad you found us here :) it's my first too and I've been struggling a bit with pins and needles/leg pains. Seems to be a pinched sciatic nerve, booked in to see a chiropractor. Sounds like you are well ahead if you're already decorated! :)

Olimoss · 05/03/2013 16:54

Sarah - yep, current contract requires me to be in Sutton but I live on W12/W4 borders. Pain in the ass!

redwellybluewelly · 05/03/2013 17:17

will be back later but you can hire TENS quite cheaply - will tryto find a link

ginauk84 · 05/03/2013 17:35

Seemed to be cheaper to buy one second hand than to hire one? Unless they are loads better if hired? I was looking at the mamatens maternity one which is about £30 second hand on eBay.

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2013 17:50

Afternoon one and all - what a day some of you have had but glad all is ok!

I'm signed off sick already and I think they'll swap me over to mat leave at 29 weeks automatically as getting SSP.

Had a bit of a ho hum day - my DP had some bother hanging around for a while, from before we were together. And things have been a bit bumpy. Had a meeting with him and his solicitor today and things aren't looking great Confused shamefully it looks like he'll end up getting a sentence and altho he'll only do half of what ever it is, it could all happen before bubs arrives in June and I could be looking at a very different start to being a mum than I had thought.

So frustrating, never imagined I'd be in a position like this or ever have to deal with prisons and stuff. Feeling very meh about everything and trying very hard not to yell at DP for having been an idiot. I did have a slight moment when he told me it was all going to be ok - think I made it very clear that there was very little ok about any of it.

Sorry for rant!

forgetmenots · 05/03/2013 17:58

Pinkbear, I've missed something (obviously, and easily done at the moment) - I hope you're ok, going to scroll back and read :(

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2013 18:19

Ah forgets - I've not mentioned DP and the issues on here before - plus I'm fairly new compared to lots of u Smile just feeling a bit overwhelmed by the developments today.

And just in case it wasn't that - I'm singed of with hydronephisis (sp?) bubs is squashing the tube from my kidney to bladder and causing fluid to back up. Will hopefully resolve with out a stent being needed once bubs arrives.

Promise less moany posts tomorrow! Grin

SunnyL · 05/03/2013 18:28

Sorry to hear about your worries Pinkbear. Can't comment on the DP issues but I've had a stent inserted in the same place before. I remember asking where they cut into me to insert the tube and was mortified when they said 'no cuts' because the anaesthetist was flipping gorgeous. All I could think was 'I know what you're going to be looking at'. Mind you -after having a baby maybe these things won't phase you.

forgetmenots · 05/03/2013 18:30

It was both pinkbear! I have missed loads recently and was really sad when I read your post, you are having a time of it! That sounds so painful - I am sure stress isn't helping, it never does, can you get someone to run you a nice bath, watch a funny film, take some time for yourself? Hope you're feeling better tomorrow

learnermummy · 05/03/2013 18:40

Oh pinkbear sounds like you're really having a bad time of it. Hope you're OK.

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2013 18:42

Thank u!

Sunny - how did you find the stent after it was fitted? I've heard some horror stories. Hoping I don't need one - but if it comes to it nice to know someone has had one and survived Wink

Forgets - thank you. Got DP children tonight, so once they are in bed will take some time out then. Seems to be one thing after another at the moment.

Tomorrows a new day - what will be will be and as with all things that are set to try us we get thru them far better than we ever imagine and come out the other side much stronger.

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2013 18:43

Cross post learner! Thank u

AlohaMama · 05/03/2013 18:45

pinkbear, feel free to moan. It sounds like a really difficult situation and must be horrible to think of dp not being around for a while, plus presumably at the moment not quite knowing what the situation is even going to be?

welcome to quilty and gina by the way.

i've been reading but not posting for a while. nothing much to say, bump is getting bigger, annoying sciatica last week (on the plus side baby is otherwise improving my posture as slouching over the bump is starting to get more uncomfortable), and that's about it. not sure when mat leave will start, as it depends if we move in august or not. I'm still waiting (after asking a month ago) to hear from my HR dept how long I have to come back to work for after taking maternity leave. Apparently if I don't come back I have to pay back all health insurance payments they make while I am on leave. Which is ridiculous as during mat leave you use your vacation and sick leave to cover the salary and if you were on vacation or sick leave otherwise you don't have to pay them back. Grrrrr.

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2013 19:22

Thanks Aloha - and ur right, we aren't sure on all the details or time scale really. And I guess the solicitor has to give the worse case picture, wouldn't put it past people to complain afterwards that they'd never been told!

Thanks for listening guys, I know everyone is having issues and enough going on with bumps. Just feeling a bit meh about it all.

MrsBri · 05/03/2013 19:36

Sounds like an awful situation, pinkbear...is there no way of more leniency by pleading guilty now, or won't that help? Can the solicitor / advocate do a good plea in mitigation mentioning the new baby / changed man since he met you / responsibilities etc?

I agree they have to give worst case scenario, but depending on the offence, I'd hope a good plea may assist with getting a suspended sentence or something like that. Is the case to be heard in the Mags or Crown Court?

I really hope it works out OK for you, with your DP and your health.

And the London commutes sound horrendous, Oli and Sarah (though, as you say, standard for London. I can't imagine getting on a bike right now, it has to be said!

Puts my walk - train - run down escalator - train - walk to shame! With Merseyrail, 80 minutes is very best case, but it is often 95 minutes due to missing a connection, or more if there is utter chaos (which happens a lot!). Ah well, not long to go now, I suppose.

Haven't decided if I'm going back to that job yet. The idea of it fills me with dread at the moment, it has to be said, and the way the legal industry is changing, I'll have to consider options nearer the time.

AlohaMama · 05/03/2013 20:00

Goodness me, I pity you all with these long commutes. I'm thankful to only have to go into the office for 2 days a week (~45 mins door to door with walk/bus/walk) and I work at home 2 days. And whoever mentioned walking slower - yes! I had a much longer walk to work when I was pregnant with ds and definitely remember having to allow more and more time, if I rushed, just ended up with sharp pains under my bump. Body says - slow down!!

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2013 20:08

Thank u Mrsbri - I think his solicitor is putting it all together to give it his best shot. The fact he's working etc etc and openly admitted from the start his involvement all helps to some level. Really hoping it all turns out far better than I'm imagining!

Thank u all for being lovely and sympathetic - muchly appreciated. Smile

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2013 20:09

Oh and it'll be crown court MrsBri and annoyingly not local to us. Adds more strain and pressure on the whole thing

MrsBri · 05/03/2013 20:13

Ah, yes...walking really is a challenge! I am used to being a very fast walker thanks to having long legs. Not any more; I'm about as speedy as an arthritic snail :-/ I used to be able to do a mile in about 12 ish minutes, now it takes me about 20 minutes. Soooo slow!

SunnyL · 05/03/2013 20:32

Pinkbear - I had the stent in temporarily until the tube had grown back. Basically the tube was too narrow for me so they cut it out, out a stent in and 6 weeks later when the tube had grown back they removed it again. I had issues with my kidneys for years after but that was due to the scarring from having 8 kidney stones rattling round inside me for years before anyone noticed.

I cannot imagine commuting such long journeys. not going to mention my lovely 30 minute walk across the fields with my dog to work cos my office lets me bring my dog in. Well done to you all for putting up with it this long. Makes me very thankful to live where I do.

curiousgeorgie · 05/03/2013 20:32

Hi everyone!

Just marking my place so I don't lose this thread...

I'm due 25th June with my 2nd child, another girl! Is there a list or something I should add myself to?

I've been trying to read the thread but its super long so just skimming about nurseries and stuff :) we're going to be moving house on the 3rd June so no decorating a nursery time for us, which is sad as I had a brilliant one ready by the time I was six months with DD1.

X

Mawgatron · 05/03/2013 20:54

Welcome newbies!
Sorry to hear about what you are trying to cope with pinkbear, can't imagine how you must be feeling.
Really don't envy all of you with massive commutes. I have been lucky enough to be able to scab lifts now, and it's only a ten min car journey. I feel like my working until may half term is going to be a struggle (I think it's the 22nd may?). Due date is 16th June, so it's only 3 weeks before my due date. Getting jealous of all of you people finishing sooner! At least I have a 2week break in about 3 weeks so I can recharge my batteries. Desperate not to go before my yr 11s and 13s have their exams, once that's over I can relax!

SunnyL · 05/03/2013 21:38

A few friends have highly recommended the NCT classes. Ive found the one local to me still has space but unfortunately the days the class is on, DH is at work. Will I look like a complete sad sack going by myself or will it be ok? Discuss!

forgetmenots · 05/03/2013 21:57

Welcome curiousgeorgie and all other newbies - there is a arts thread but think it'll get better use in June (hopefully!) here's the link: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1609889-June-2013-its-busy-and-we-need-a-stats-thread
