I just dropped into TKMaxx again and found some really nice things for winter-time for £3.99 price range so grabbed a couple. And now after that and Saturday's mission for baby stuff I feel like I've done enough and won't be going back. TKMaxx is just too much hard work.

Also we've got carpet fitters and plumbers and gardeners and all sorts of expensive people visiting in the next few weeks, sorting the little jobs we've been ignoring for the last two years since we bought the place, so the NewHuman will have to survive on what he's got. Summer babies = in singlets a lot, I hope.

Quilty · 06/03/2013 16:52

Oh pinkbear, that all sounds horribly stressful. I really hope your solicitor can you help out the best they can. Do you have family/friends nearby to support you if the worst happens?

We too haven't bought any baby clothes yet, think its going to mostly hand me downs for the first few weeks! Feel like we are doing much less preparation than people I know who know what they're having! Haven't even touched nursery yet aside from clearing out a few drawers!

Got midwife tomorrow, anyone know when you start talking about birth plan? Is it too soon still?

curiousgeorgie · 06/03/2013 17:09

My DD didn't fit her newborn things for even a week so I got rid of them all to a hospital charity... And I had loads!! I'd gone into a labour that they'd stopped at 33 weeks and so we were all convinced she wouldn't hand around much longer... But then she was a 42 week c section!! What a waste Wink

Having another girl is so lucky though as I didn't buy anything neutral. Our pram, carseat, Moses basket, crib blankets and bottles are all pink and girly!! Even our babies playroom is like an explosion of pink plastic... I never thought I'd be like that. I was adamant that I would have everything neutral and all the newborn stuff was... I just went a bit girly nuts after that Grin

Sorry everyone's having such a rubbish day... I am too! I've got a horrible bug and can't even keep water down so am in hospital having IV fluids with only my phone to keep me company... Hence the mammoth message!

Has everyone been thinking about names?

AlohaMama · 06/03/2013 17:15

Poor you curious or should I say georgie? Definitely sounds like something going round, hope you get better soon.

And yes we have a name. To be fair it was our girl name choice when ds came along and fortunately we still like it, so we didn't have to go through any name choosing stress this time round. Love an easy life!

Olimoss · 06/03/2013 17:16

Oh my goodness we're all going through the wars of some kind or another - everyone get well and stay safe!

pinkbear82 · 06/03/2013 17:37

Quilty - luckily my mum and dad are wonderful, I'm their only DC and this is their first grandchild so I know they will be there for me 100%. I'm further away from them then I'd like but in reality for them it's only 20 mins in the car and 45 for me on the bus (I don't drive). And DPs parents are close, so have them if needed - altho without sounding ungrateful much prefer my own :/

So sorry to hear of everyone's sickly day - hope all nastys bugger off quickly and leave you all alone and curious that you get home soon.

Ordered the cot last night - think DP wants to try and get as much in order now just in case.
Suddenly hit me today that we haven't settled on a name an that if the worse happens DP isn't going to be here - thinking we'd better get at least a short list together so I know if it comes to it I don't pick something he hates Shock had 7 months and haven't managed it, looking at possibly a week and a half to do it in is slightly alarming!! Blush

Collect the car seat we won on eBay tomorrow. Starting to all seem very real now.

MrsBri · 06/03/2013 18:14

Goodness, there are some people far worse off than I am. Hope everyone feels better soon. :-)

As for clothing, Baby B is also naked at the moment. Except for one of the 500 nappies we have!

I'm going to go to Asda when I get paid in April to buy a selection of vests / sleep suits etc in newborn and 0-3 and maybe 3-6 too, just so I'm covered for all sizes and also for a while too. Hoping not to have a monster baby though. :-)

Glad I'm on the way home...fluid, rest and sleep for me. Plus I have to catch up with work. Joy.

The good news is I'll do Weds at home from now on. Thank god!

Hawkmoth · 06/03/2013 18:24

Both mine were in tiny baby stuff to start with. Found a babygro that size last week and was in floods of tears! We've got bags and bags of clothes in the attic, unsorted and both sexes. Also, they were both long and skinny so I have a feeling most had the feet cut out, but I can't face looking or buying more. It's still not a hundred per cent real yet, which is pretty stupid!

Still feeling crap, worse actually today. Hoping the antibiotics kick in tomorrow.

Mawgatron · 06/03/2013 19:12

Hi all. Think you are right about the 25 week slump, had a terrible day today. Feeling really overwhelmed at school and I ended up having a cry when I got home. Was convinced I was going to stay off tomorrow just to try and catch up a little bit, but I am going to make myself go in, feel far too guilty to neglect the students. I don't actually feel ill, just exhausted and overwhelmed. And sulky because husband is out playing squash tonight, didn't see him last night either because of football. Want a cuddle and I'm on my own. It sucks.

Sorry, moan over.

Got a few clothes but mostly hand me downs so I'm not too worried if they are the wrong size. Got a microwave bottle steamer for 15 quid in the maxx at the weekend, and a nice sleeping bag for bub.

pinkapples · 06/03/2013 20:38

Awww sounds like we're all (mostly) busy preparing for babies GrinGrin so excited like someone said just want her here now

Have a name that we both like I keep saying it in different scenarios to see if it will fit got plenty of time yet to try and find something else as we want 2/3 to go to the birth with then we will pick which suits her Grin we want something unusual though not to common so that she's not suchabody D at school/nursery I hate when children have their last initial because there are like 4 kids with the same name

Littlemissexpecting · 06/03/2013 21:18

Anyone watching one born every minute?
DH is going to start painting the spare room for baby tomorrow. Finished all the prep and sanding this evening. I'll be glad when its done and furniture all made up so I can see what I've bought more clearly.

AmIGoingMad · 06/03/2013 21:18

Hello everyone! I've not posted in a while as I've been exhausted and life seems to have gotten hectic. Just been trying to catch up on your news and its taken ages!

Welcome to the newbies! Smile

Mrsbri- sorry to hear you had another scare but glad to hear that all's well and that they've agreed to some working at home time.

Pinkbear- so sorry to hear what you're going through. I hope that you at least find out soon what exactly it is that you'll have to deal with- we're all always on hand to offload to and generally handhold.

Sorry to hear that so many are feeling rubbish. I'm a bit scared- I'll be 25 weeks next week and that seems to be the time the nasty stuff is kicking in for lots. Hope you all feel better soon and it's just a blip!

Had my midwife appt this week and was lovely to hear baby's heartbeat! She's getting really busy now which is lovely! My classes must think I'm a right weirdo tho when I go oo and hold my tummy!

Hope everyone has a restful night and a good day tomrw!Smile

MrsBri · 06/03/2013 21:35

Ha ha, AmI...I sit at my desk and do that when Baby B is going mental inside me! Really makes me catch my breath at times. In a good way. :-)

Just finished work for the evening, making up for the time I missed this morning.

So pissed off with the lazy fucking bitches I work with. Despite being given loads less than me to do last week when the manager was off, it turns out they didn't bother doing most of it. It's now all in my name to do. Lovely :-/

I really cannot wait to escape that place.

cyclecamper · 06/03/2013 22:35

I have another naked baby. It'll have nappies (I have washables from my old job) and a cardigan, and once it reaches nine months it'll have a load of girly clothes if it fits the description, but that's it. Oh except for a couple of snow suits and waterproofs (I look after robust children: no excuses not to be outside!).

forgetmenots · 06/03/2013 23:02

I'm another control freak mad organiser... I would have been an amazing Scout, I'm always prepared... Honestly, it's my way of dealing with the bits I can't possibly be prepared for, by being a bit ahead in the things I can. I wish I was a bit more laid back!

Still got a few bits on my list to get but like gina I've been spreading the cost too. It's my first DC, dare I say PFB, I'd like to say I'm sure I wouldn't be like this a second time, but knowing myself I might!

forgetmenots · 06/03/2013 23:03

Ps mrsbri are you able to get away with slowly taking your foot off the gas for the next nine weeks, they truly don't deserve your effort!

MrsBri · 06/03/2013 23:33

I'm meant to be, forget, but it just isn't happening :-/ I have to do what I'm given to do by the manager.

Wish I could leave earlier to be honest.

Sigh!

Littlemissexpecting · 07/03/2013 06:36

I'm not sure what camp I'm in, probably the organised one. Not bought any nappies yet though. At nct this week there are some couples with babies due at beginning of may and they haven't even bought pram, cot/Moses basket, car seat etc yet! I was sitting panicking for them! We have all the big things. just need more clothes, nappies, cotton wool, and breast bump, bottles and steriliser which I'm not sure whether to wait or not as its handy spreading the cost and pay for it while I'm getting paid instead of SMP which will be eaten by nappies!
I've not bought any books or toys just in case we get bought some

MrsBri · 07/03/2013 06:48

Don't forget you'll be in receipt of child benefit which will help pay for nappies :-)

Forgot to mention, the bloke selling me my train ticket last night was asking how long I had left in work and told me how well I was doing. A bit patronising, but kind of nice too!

AmIGoingMad · 07/03/2013 07:52

Your colleagues sound delightful mrsbri!Hmm

Im starting to get a bit worried about how little we've done/got. Even tho this is dc2 we have done nothing to prepare her bedroom which is currently a very cluttered study/junk room. I'm so wiped out at the end of the day that getting stuff done after DS goes to bed isn't happening. Weekends are the only full days we get as a family so don't want to spend the whole time sorting but will probably have to start soon- I know little one will be in with us for a while but if I'm finding it difficult to find time now, I definitely won't find any when there's a newborn in the house too!!! Aargh- panic setting in!!!

AmIGoingMad · 07/03/2013 07:53

Also- does child benefit cease to exist from jan2014 or is that a terrible dream that I've had?!

curiousgeorgie · 07/03/2013 07:55

Child benefit has stopped though hasn't it?

I've been buying one thing a week.. Either a box of wipes, a pack of nappies, some baby toiletries......

I managed to find a shop that had 10 boxes of Ashton & Parsons teething powder as well and as it was the only thing that worked for DD and there's some sort of national shortage I bought them all Blush DH discovered my stash of stuff in a wardrobe in the spare room and was like 'We've got ages!!' Lol...

Hope everyone has a better day today!!

SunnyL · 07/03/2013 07:56

For anyother Scottish folks I got sent this link last night to the Jack and Jill market - apparently it is very similar to the NCT sales but they seem to happen with greater frequency.
www.jackandjillmarket.co.uk/register.html

Made a pact with DH last night that when we go pram shopping next week we will pack up a pack of vests and onesies since I was feeling naughty and unprepared listening to you all. As my mum points out just about everyone who came to our wedding a couple of years ago is likely to buy a little gift for babs so it will probably be very well kitted out in just a matter of weeks.

Sarah2506 · 07/03/2013 08:02

Child benefit has only stopped if you earn in excess of 60k, reduced between 50 and 60k. In London that's not a huge amount really, especially when mortgage is 24k a year!

DontmindifIdo · 07/03/2013 08:14

AmIGoingMad - you can still get child benefit unless one of you earns more than 60k (and I think there's a sliding scale of what you lose from 50k). However, if there's any chance you'll be a SAHM for a while, do the forms anyway (even if your DH then has to pay it back through tax at the end of the year) - if you are a SAHM you get your NI contributions paid for you until your youngest DC is 13 (I think it's 13) - and you need 20-something years NI contributions in total to get the full state pension (the basic and the 2nd top up one - I'm sure someone knowledgable could find how many years in total you need).

Even if you think "oh well I'll just be a SAHM until my youngest is at school and that gives me enough years to cover the extra contributions to get to the minimum to get the full pension" it just gives you a bit more of a safety net in case you need to finish working younger than retirement age later on.
