Welcome Quilty, and morning to everyone else.

Well, after a minor freak about about being immobile for the next year due to farmed knee I've decided I can't hack the pity and have decided to just get on with what I can do and ignore prognoses. Can't do anything proper till after surgery anyway so between now and then will do lots of physio and see if I can get back into the pool.

So boring! But I was getting a bit frantic about how I'd carry a baby around seeing as I can barely carry myself around at the moment! Also think maybe I'm losing plot a little as been so housebound. Going to take a cab I to work tomorrow, almost looking forward to it - Lordy.

We did some pre-baby jobs this weekend too, like finally sorting through the bundles of stuff we picked up here and there on the cheap or back home in Australia. Mostly baby clothes, and I can tell I've been assuming we'll get a proper summer this year as so far I've lots of nice summery stuff. Much prefer the idea of a new baby not having to be wrapped up in layers of clothes, so here's hoping. Still not got enough though, which is a bit intimidating.

Trying to sell a gorgeous desk we have, too, which is sad but it's just too big to keep.

Comedy moment wandering around a big Boots looking at all the baby stuff, going, 'oh dear god we have no clue', picking up a baby thermometer and speaking no more of it.

Farmed = farked

learnermummy · 04/03/2013 12:48

No MrsBri wouldn't eat more than 10 bananas. Think there was something homeopathic I took too, will try and remember for you. I always used to get it in middle of night but have been lucky to avoid so far.

learnermummy · 04/03/2013 12:57

Oh and meant to say MrsBri the free dental certificate is just the NHS card you already have for free prescriptions.

MrsBri · 04/03/2013 13:18

Thanks, Learner.

And I don't have the free prescription thingy either right now...it is on my list of things to ask that I've actually remembered today! :-)

Nice to escape work early...banging headache as it was so hot in the office :-/

pinkbear82 · 04/03/2013 14:11

The good thing is the maternity exemption card doesn't take long to come thru and if I remember rightly I was allowed to put down as having it once sent off for it. As all they do is check the record on the pc if they do look into it.

I stupidly forgot to bring any Gaviscon to work with me today. Been dealing with niggling indigestion all day. However it didn't stop me from snarfing the chocolate oreos in the biscuit tin. Clearly my indigestion isn't all that bad!

Sunbeam18 · 04/03/2013 16:44

Oli I hear you re all 'the stuff'! I've been told by some sensible sorts that it's not essential to buy tonnes of stuff in advance, and that lots of stuff that shops tell you is essential really isn't. Better to wait and see what you need when the baby is here (beyond the obvious basics). We certainly can't be spending thousands in advance! Also, you will get given loads of pressies when he arrives! My sis says blankets and gro-bags are v popular gifts x

pinkbear82 · 04/03/2013 16:56

Have had a bit of an energy spur this avo and scrubbed the bathroom and kitchen. Rearranged the dining room, sorted a few bits and bobs. Cleaned the front room window to remove all the dog nose prints, sorted washing and finished making DSDs birthday card for Thursday.

All I need now is my new Hoover to finish it off looking nice - DP insisted on sorting it Confused and assures me it's being delivered tomorrow first thing. Don't know who I'll stick the rocket up first if it doesn't!!

Hope everyone has had a good Monday - off to welcome the parents now who are dropping in a few bits..... Always exciting to see!

MrsBri think the leg cramp thing is magnesium not potassium deficiency actually and the homeopathic remedy was called Mag Phos x

Quilty · 04/03/2013 18:42

Hi all! So glad Monday is done - one day closer to the weekend!

No maisiebeem we don't know what we're having. I think not knowing is saving us a lot of money as far less choice for neutral things! Think we'll go to the NCT sale just to check it out and see if its worth going again once we've had the baby. It's exciting not knowing the sex, but at the same time I'm yearning to buy things that are a bit more personal!

Quilty · 04/03/2013 18:46

Mrsbri, the legs cramps are thought to be more to do with circulation than magnesium, if you're job involves being on your feet a lot then try to get a break whenever you can. Or vice versa if you're sitting for long periods you need to stretch your legs outand make sure you don't sit with legs crossed (I do this all the time, very hard habit to break!). Also lying on your left side in the evenings and in bed helps the circulation to your legs.

MrsBri · 04/03/2013 18:53

Now that's interesting, Quilty, as my feet are bloody freezing quite often, so that makes sense.

I do try lie on my left and I have a footstool at work so put my feet on that.

I do try!

We are team yellow too. Like you, it is mostly fine, just every now and then I think I'd like to know.

Olimoss · 04/03/2013 18:56

Sunbeam oh for sure, we've narrowed the recommended list down to nearly nothing - it's more baby clothes and muslins and stuff. And I keep remembering things like baby monitor! I refused the 'recommended stuff you should buy' list from John Lewis when we were there getting the buggy - it was insanely long! We aren't buying a single piece of nursery furniture - being given a nice JL cot and fe-purposive an art deco side cabinet thing as baby wardrobe and will just chuck a change mat on top.

Might just ask my mum to bring the rest of the singlets (Aussie for vests) and babygros with her when she flies over - they do awesome terry towelling ones back there you can't seem to get here.

At one point on Saturday boyfriend and I were comparing ingredients in baby wipes (they were on special), looked at each other and just bolted out of there!

Olimoss · 04/03/2013 18:57

Bloody iPad spelling! Re-purposive ='re-purposing'

Quilty · 04/03/2013 19:22

Definitely sounds like circulation mrsbri, my friend always has freezing feet and gets cramp loads! Lots of leg/ankle wriggling and stretching meant to help ease it I think.

Am also agreeing with the ethos of not buying too much, we are in a 2 bed house with limited storage space (and limited budget!). Will just be swapping the bed in the spare room for a cot, and we've cleared out all the drawers to make space for babies things. Had a major panic about all the feeding stuff in mothercare the other week and felt totally overwhelmed by it all! It felt like such a relief when I decided to just leave it all and see what happens when baby is here!

learnermummy · 04/03/2013 20:20

That is interesting about circulation and cramps. Perhaps you could try sleeping with feet slightly raised on a pillow?

pinkapples · 04/03/2013 21:58

So new kingsize bed up and built (minus the storage underneath - hubby was tired) have decided to swap sides as when baby comes I will need to be on the other side with the Moses basket Grinhmmm so will be starting to learn to lie on the right side will let you know how it goes x

RueDeWakening · 04/03/2013 21:58

Just read my emails, my pram is in the post :o :o :o

Having said that...the best thing someone said to me when I was PG with DD was "the shops don't shut just because you've had a baby, you know...". I agree with lots of the "essential" stuff shops/lists of baby equipment tell you about is just unnecessary, for us we don't use a baby bath or top & tail bowl, or nappy box etc but of course YMMV. I've never had formula/bottles/etc in the house to begin with, although did use them for both DD and DS at various points.

redwellybluewelly · 04/03/2013 22:10

Not MIA but exhausted, poorly toddler, fever pitch excitement at work with project launch on Thursday and a nasty case of photosensitivity in my eye meaning I can't look at bright lights or be outdoors.

However baby has shifted back to bum out position which means loads of kicks and we had chips for tea Grin

Good morning all! And welcome quilty.
Anyone else feeling ridiculously tired? I got in bed at 7 last night!! Starting to get really uncomfortable when I sleep, waking up all the time with aches in my back and groin (I suspect a little bit of SPD Sad).
Put our stokke sleepi together, all excited. Went to wheel it into to bedroom, won't fit through the door. Whoops! Moses basket it is then! It looks lovely up though, I keep getting excited every time I walk past the nursery now!

Ditto on the no space front. Our house is a really old 2 bed terrace, and has loads of amazing original features (chimney breasts, interesting cupboards in walls etc. unfortunately, it means we are really limited in terms of wall space to put things so we are having to be really sparse with furniture. We have had to sacrifice our dining table for the time being so we can use it for work.

9 working weeks to go. Not that I'm counting..,

MrsBri · 05/03/2013 07:32

Morning, Maw.

Yes, even though I don't sleep too badly (cramp / restless legs aside) I'm really tired. Think the commute is draining the life from me. Really need to ask about working from home one day a week until I finish to give myself a break.

When does the third trimester start? Some of us are there already, are we? Various sites have different weeks; it is all very confusing!

Midwife yesterday was very uneventful, though Baby B was laying in a slightly awkward position for her to find the heartbeat!

I'm counting down to mat leave too...43.5 working days as of today :-) Looking forward to Easter at the moment as I've taken the Thursday and Tuesday off too. Bliss.

Who gets to the finish line first (to cause envy amongst us all!)? I finish on May 10th.

Anybody got any clues as to how to remind DH I'm nesting and REALLY need the bloody nursery doing sooner rather than later? He's so annoyingly laid back about it. I'm going to end up starting it just to prompt him. He hasn't even painted over the blue in a small area to use my testers yet. He insists that it's properly or not at all, but whatever, man, just get on with it!!

massagegirl · 05/03/2013 07:51

I think the nesting instinct really kicked in on the weekend, I sat and had a cry about how much to do (We've just moved into a house that needs a lot of work) so went to b&q and we bought some paint, it's a start!
I finish on 26th April.. can't wait.
Think I am now in third trimester... woooo hoo!
Agree with ridiculiously tired, am out 3 nights this week and just want to sleep!
