maw glad your husband got it!

I have horrible heartburn too. I find settlers tums work better for me than gaviscon. Possibly partly because I hate aniseed and you can taste it even in the mint flavoured ones. The sachets are ok, but tums are more effective.

redwellybluewelly · 24/02/2013 22:49

We had a BT monitor, dh wanted it as we could play mp3s to baby. I wish wish wish we had got a video monitor.

We're getting a video monitor split screen for this one and for dd, summer infant?

Also. And I think the list of what you need vs what you see on sale is ludicrous the item we went out and bought full price was a digital ear thermometer, its been a true godsend as dd has febrile seizures but my nephew had meningitis at a few days old and his mum said she wished she'd had one as it would have alerted her quicker to the fact her newborn had a fever.

It even comes on holiday with us! We've never had a bath thermometer though, just used the elbow dip test.

Not sure yet, want a video one but need to do some research.
Really want a pacapod, but mum bought us a cath kidston one for Christmas, (was a very twee floral, have exchanged for a more boy-friendly charcoal polka dot one), so can't really justify it :( the one we have is lovely though...

sunny you know you can get individual gaviscon sachets in tesco? I bought a box of 12 so I can have it in my handbag...

Littlemissexpecting · 25/02/2013 07:21

Morning all
Red welly I agree a thermometer is a must. My mum has bought us one.

Are the video monitors good then? Very tempting! My only criteria has been that it has room thermometer so I don't have to buy 2 gadgets but might look at video ones this evening.

At what stage is heartburn etc normal to start? Does everyone get it? I'm not sure if I'm just lucky to not have it yet....

MrsBri · 25/02/2013 07:28

I don't have heartburn yet, Littlemiss.

I do have stray hiccups though! Just the odd one every now and then.

Some people say that if your baby has lots of head hair it can make heartburn worse!

I think we just have a listening monitor, as it was given to us. Though there is a sensor pad for under baby.

Sams4lo · 25/02/2013 07:38

Morning ladies
Just trying to catch up as not felt too well :(

The heartburn hair theory I can second, as only had heartburn with dc3 and she was the only one to have a full mop of hair!

We have the angel care monitor with the sensor pad, it has a thermometer built in I think lol dh wanted a video monitor but as this is our last we can't justify buying another!

learnermummy · 25/02/2013 10:14

I can also support the heartburn theory. Only had heartburn with DS1 and he had loads of hair. DS2 was practically bald and no heartburn. None so far with this one, so probably another baldy.
We had a BT listening monitor originally, not sure whether to get another one or a video one this time.
I also agree that the in-ear thermometers are a must and the doctors also use them so little one is used to it at home.

Olimoss · 25/02/2013 11:22

Morning all, so much to catch up on, it's busy on here.....

I'm a big fan of Rennies, I've got them secreted in every bag and drawer. My best friend.....and they don't taste too chalky or stick in your teeth or anything.

I've not though about room monitors or thermometers. Geez. Maybe I. This whole zen approach to it all I've just been a tad too laid back.

Am getting paranoid though - every time baby moves and I go to touch my belly where he is, he stops. And then moves again IMMEDIATELY I leave him alone. I don't think he likes me.

MrsBri · 25/02/2013 12:10

He's probably sussing you out, Oli.

My DH gets kicked right royally when he touches the bump...not sure if that's affection either?!

Sarah2506 · 25/02/2013 12:29

Things I have done today that suggest I should go on maternity leave tomorrow:

  • I tried to send a fax. It wouldn't send. I realised that I had taken the fax number of the letter they sent me and so I have spent an hour trying to fax myself.
  • I saved a really important lengthy document somewhere on Friday, but not in the correct file, and now I can't find it and people are getting really annoyed with me.
  • I drafted a letter, circulated for comment and amended accordingly. I then closed the file and despite being asked if I wanted to save I selected no, so have now lost it for good.
  • I am bitterly disappointed that the cake baker appears to have given up Monday morning baking.

I do feel like I'm loosing the plot. the baby kicked me for hours and even when quiet I just couldn't get to sleep. I am literally hanging on by my fingernails today. the only thing that is stopping me moaning loudly and anoyingly for hours is that a colleague has just told me his wife had a bad reaction to IVF and is in hospital. So I am reflecting on the fact that although I feel absolutely wretched I should actually be very grateful.

There ends my thoughts for the day!

cupcake78 · 25/02/2013 12:45

For all of you with heartburn/indigestion in the uk you can get the equivalent of gaviscon on prescription, therefore freeGrin.

I've done nothing to prepare for baby yet all of you seem to be on your way. The spare room hasn't even been cleared out yet, its a tip and a make shift study so alot to do.

I'm still exhausted!

MrsBri · 25/02/2013 18:06

Oh dear, Sarah...pregnancy and law don't mix really, do they? I'm really struggling to maintain any sort of momentum, it has to be said.

And boo to the cake maker misery!

I'm really struggling with my walks to the train stations for my commute at the moment. Anyone else finding any walk above a very slow speed a challenge?

In other news, my bump is HUGE now. If I stand upright with feet together and look down I can't see them anymore!

And my belly button must have a target on in inside as baby has spent all day kicking it. Makes me feel queasy! Not sure when baby sleeps, as I feel him so much. I'm assuming some of the more gentle knocks may be when he's asleep? Else he will be knackered!

pinkbear82 · 25/02/2013 18:30

Mrsbri I've been finding walking getting harder the last 2 weeks, it's certainly been pointed out I waddle......and I find I get quite breathless too. Slow is best, even if you do end up miles behind!!

Had an awful day, been really emotional and trying to sort stuff at home. Money wise and stuff is all a bit scary and I'm really worried and been having heart to hearts with DP. So much going on at home lately as well as me bing ill I'm starting to worry about the stress on bubs and how we'll get thru everything. Hmm Hey ho.

Littlemissexpecting · 25/02/2013 19:16

Pink bear sorry to hear you've not had a good day.
Mrs Bri I'm also struggling to walk. Not all the time, but every now and then I get a pain, like a stitch that won't go and its quite painful while walking.
Oli bump does the opposite for my DH, when ever he puts his hands on bump he starts kicking! Not quite sure how he knows its DHs hands not mine but its very cute (for now!)
Cupcake we are attempting to clear out the room this weekend, I'm dreading it. Ours is also a make shift study etc but the cot is sitting in boxes in a very full garage so the sooner it goes up the better. Mind you I've not found a home for the contents of the room yet!!
Sarah that sound like a nightmare day in the office!
Ladies I got told a lovely piece of 'advice' today that I'm sure will cheer us all up.... It's only going to get worse!! Smile

AlohaMama · 25/02/2013 19:57

Just thought I'd stop by and say hi, as I've been reading but not posted for a while. Impressed by how busy everyone has been preparing and decorating! We don't really have anything to do here, and I can't do any shopping till we find out if we're moving back to UK in August or staying here for a while longer. Meanwhile I've started de-cluttering and organising cupboards, just in case we move as the last thing I want to be doing is getting ready to move half way round the world while 8 months pregnant or with a newborn!

A few people have mentioned video monitors. If anyone sees a good one/not too expensive let me know! We didn't need one for ds (our house is all one level) but at times I remember peeking in when ds was crying to see if he was ok only to then wake him up when he probably would've gone to sleep if I'd left him. A definite buy this time round I think!

That's it really. Finally got out the maternity clothes but most are still too big. I'm still hanging on to my 1 pr of non-mat jeans I can still fit in but once I grow out of those I'm stuck till I grow enough to fill the maternity ones!

littlemiss that's just the kind of helpful advice we all need Hmm

peardrop2 · 25/02/2013 20:11

I've got my on the screen Tommie Tippee but we're in no rush to buy one just yet just in case a friend or family member offers to give us some vouchers! Won't be getting any from work boo hoo :(

peardrop2 · 25/02/2013 20:12

Long day...got my eye on

AlohaMama · 25/02/2013 20:15

hmmm, spendy!! I was kind of hoping I could just rig up a webcam to a laptop or something as a cheaper alternative. Any techie folk think this could work?

redwellybluewelly · 25/02/2013 20:48

Aloha there is an app for ipad/iphone which allows you to watch baby? But I don't know about your average webcam being able to pick up images in the dark?

I have an issue with my lovely JJMB mat jeans, I have enough bump but not enough bum! They keep falling down.

My Q - is anyone else leaking colostrum?

OP posts:
Sunbeam18 · 25/02/2013 20:59

Oh God red, don't tell me that we have to deal with that at this stage! Yikes! X

AlohaMama · 25/02/2013 21:04

red not yet thank goodness. I don't remember that happening when I was pg last time, does it happen earlier with future pregnancies?? I feel like there's quite enough leakage to be going on with without that as well.

Mawgatron · 25/02/2013 21:17

I'm leaking colostrum, but only if I give my nips a little squeeze. I am absolutely fascinated by it!

Hugs to you pink bear, sorry you are having a shitty day.

Anyone else watching the penguins on bbc 1? Bloody brilliant...
