She has been veey ill though. If I am wearing my tigher on the leg jeans and a baggy top and standing tall then I am not obviously pregnant and I'm a lot bigger this time round than last time.

I'm also not eating very healthily, I know I should but the only things that keep me going are carby foods. Cant eat sweets or chocolates but can do damage to a sausage roll on a daily basis!

Agree re. Kate. My sister was quite similar on her first baby though - slim slim slim except a baby bump. Grrrrr

For me, people who know I'm pregnant say I've got a baby bump. However those that don't know I'm pregnant just think I've been eating a few too many pies. I even wore my bikini today and the person I was with didn't still didn't realise I was pregnant. I'm still wearing quite a few of my non-maternity clothes though. It helps that I was on weight watchers before I got pregnant so quite a few of my clothes were really quite baggy anyway.

Sarah2506 · 19/02/2013 15:42

I just logged on to make a comment about Kate. I don't look like that. I've never looked like that. I'm torn between being jealous and envious. Nice to have everything done for you - hello blowdry on a daily basis / tailor made wardrobe / nutritionist / no doubt ultrasound machine on demand. Though, have to say I would not appreciate anyone interfering with my right to lie on the sofa shovelling crap in my face without having to worry about my next public appearance. And how would you hide the wrappers without your private security finding them?! I wonder if she lurks on the July 2013 threads.. or maybe she lurks on ours!!

Have just actually bought stuff. First time! Mothercare have 15% off bedding and nursery so bought a good cotbed mattress and a few sheets and blankets.

Ladies - can we agree that the minute anyone spots anything on offer they post immediately!! I can't be buying everything full price!

DontmindifIdo · 19/02/2013 15:49

re Kate, she's tall! Remember you are measured from top of bump to plevic bone, last week that was measuring at 23 weeks for me (spot on), however I'm 5'0 - there is very little space between the top of my pelvic bone and the bottom of my ribs, so in order to be 23cm, a lot of that has to be going in an outwards direction, Kate is a lot taller than me, so it's not unreasonable that from the bottom of her ribs to the top of her pelvic bone to be 20cm with only a tiny bump outwards. Tall/long bodied woman show later.

MrsBri · 19/02/2013 15:57

Not in my case, Don'tmind...I'm 5'11" and showed literally instantly! :-/ I did shovel crisps to combat sickness, but it was always blatantly a preggo bump, not fat! My innards went upwards very quickly, as they've been uncomfortable for ages.

Bearing in mind I have to use public transport for my commute, I've actually been thankful for my bump as it has allowed me to get a seat twice, whereas if I had no bump I'd be left standing. Small mercies, eh?!

learnermummy · 19/02/2013 15:58

Agree totally Sarah2506 would not want the world to be scrutinising my waistline! Must go and hide the wrapper of that flake I 'borrowed' from DS1s Christmas chocolate stash....

MrsBri · 19/02/2013 16:00

But...I am mostly leg (4' floor to waist), so I suppose that may have more of an influence than if I was more evenly balanced! Desperately scrabbling for reasons my bump is MAHOOSIVE!

redwellybluewelly · 19/02/2013 16:12

I'm measuring spot on size wise, MW has just said I have a very happy healthy baby in there but I am carrying low even for a second timer and that might be why everything is swollen down there and why im getting so much bump ache. Not only was dd (very) overdue but she engaged fully at 38 weeks so I got stretched for a month.

Spring cleaned today, moved all the furniture around in the playroom, hoovered throughout downstairs, two loads of washing put away and one load hung up, three lots of washing up, cleared out fridge, mopped hall floor, opened all the windows and aired the duvets. Dusted upstairs

Have also minced some beef for dinner, still need to cook it though, and thought about meals for the freezer for babymoon. Still need to dust upstairs and clean the bathroom.

Roofers finish work tomorrow, plumber and carpenter booked for mid march, and nursery fees paid until end of March. Live it when a plan comes together Grin

learner how is there still a chocolate stash in your house?? Mine lasted not long at all- and it was a very big stash! I am tempted to start bulk buying Easter eggs! In preparation for my next lot of chocolate cravings!

pinkbear82 · 19/02/2013 16:32

Omg Red - you've been a busy bee!! I've had a day where it's been a struggle to do anything! In fact was just considering a nap.

Bit jealous of all of you and chocolate... Since suffering from hg chocolate anything is likely to be parted with Hmm

RueDeWakening · 19/02/2013 17:31

Bloody hell Redwelly I thought I was doing well defrosting the freezer, running the dishwasher and getting a load of washing on! :o

I'm 5'8" and have only just got a bump in the last couple of weeks - I can still fit into my non-maternity jeans, only the baby doesn't like them much and tends to kick me if I squish it under the waistband :o don't look like Kate though!

redwellybluewelly · 19/02/2013 17:42

Dont know what came over me is it too soon to be nesting?

Have also taken clothing returns to post office, suddenly realised the returns had been sitting there for two weeks and I had a day left to get a refund.

Dd has a single spot on her tongue, none on hands or feet, I'm desperately hoping its a mouth ulcer not hand foot and mouth or chickenpox. I'm so so up against the wall at work and days off now would be catastrophic if I'm to stand any chance of finishing my phd. Sigh.

AlohaMama · 19/02/2013 17:59

Goodness me ladies you have been busy over the last few days. Welcome to all the newbies.

I'm the same as yourue and still have my skinny jeans (though probably stretching them without realising). I have lovely maternity jeans but they're way too big. I'm going to be stuck for the next few weeks in that in-between stage where non-maternity is too small but maternity is too big and will just have to wear leggings and the same top every day!

Feel good about having done some de-cluttering over the weekend. Not really nesting as we don't need to do much for the baby, more a 'better start sorting out the house just in case we move back to the UK in August but we don't really know what we're doing' type of thing. I did go through all ds's old baby clothes though and realised this little girl has nothing to wear till she's 3 months old. Might have to succumb to some shopping, or hope that other people buy it for us!!

Olimoss · 19/02/2013 19:11

Are you all going to do the isofix thing for your carseat? It's extra dosh for the attachment and I've had advice that a correctly belted maxi cosi or what ever it is you choose is just as safe.....

Back home in australia most people hire a very basic baby capsule for the first few months or so, and it's just belted in. Am confused.

Sarah2506 · 19/02/2013 19:15

Oli I think it falls into the category of 'things our parents never had for us and were absolutely fine but we think we really need. Ultimately it will likely make life easier, so we will get it, as you just snap the car seat in. We have a three door, and I'm having a section, so arsing around trying to get the seat belt round it won't be for me!

redwellybluewelly · 19/02/2013 19:22

We had an isofox version that was for cars too old to have an isofix iyswim? Bloody brilliant. Seriously. Will certainly be using it this time although we are getting a new car seat as our old one was the spare of a ffriends and its now too old for my liking.

I've decided I'm not getting a buggy till baby is here, purely because if dd is walking everywhere or using buggy board we can use our icandy but if she decidea not to walk then I'll get a second hand mountain buggy double or nipper 360. We'll see.

I am as expected now flat on my back exhausted.

AmIGoingMad · 19/02/2013 19:31

We got the maxi cosi and got the base for my car then used seatbelt in DH's. when DS got too big for that we got the maxi cosi axis ( turns to the side for you to put little one in and saves your back) just for DH's car which is the one that whoever is with DS drives.

Redwelly it's sounds like you're a woman on a mission already! I really don't have the energy to do the general day to day things around the house so I'm not sure when the nesting will start!

learnermummy · 19/02/2013 20:35

maisie up to now I've felt too guilty to raid DS1's chocolate stash. He's like his dad when it comes to chocolate and it will probably stay there til next Christmas if I don't eat it. Am hoping he forgets there ever was a flake....
redwelly you really are on a mission, wish I could find some get up and go! Did manage to swap DS2 into spare room last night, but now we need to paint the new spare room....
As for car seats I love maxi cosi seats but haven't had the isofix base before. Might look out for one on ebay.

ella0 · 19/02/2013 20:55

Thanks for the info on the Dulux tester offer, I don't watch adverts so didn't realise. I wanted to order testers a few weeks ago but refused to pay the £4 or so including p&p.

Our midwife said counting the kicks from 25 weeks is important; I'm 25 weeks in a few days and I'm still not getting enough movement to count 10 kicks a day (I have anterior placenta)... I haven't had any braxton hicks either.

I'm hoping my maternity clothes will last the whole way through; so far the weight is just going on my bump.

We've got the isofix base for our maxi-cosi car seat. It's not essential but we thought it'd make life a lot easier.

cyclecamper · 19/02/2013 20:58

I quite like the isofix bases they make it much easier to get the seat in and out of the car. As we don't have a car, I won't be getting one though! I'm having whatever babyseat my welsh friend has, because it fits on the pushchair she's also giving me and I'll be getting it whenever she comes to London next.

I've done a load of vacuuming today - my husband has severe asthma and has been really bad lately - it's a viscious circle: The dust is bad for his breathing, and he's been bad so he was off sick so I haven't vacuumed, so the dust makes his breathing worse... He actually went into work this afternoon so I did the whole of downstairs. Hopefully he will be well enough to go tomorrow so I can do upstairs.

Thank you Redwelly - every time I see the thread title I do my pelvic floor exercises whilst I wait for the page to load - it's a great reminder!

learnermummy · 19/02/2013 21:05

Those of you who aren't first timers how often are you seeing your midwife? my last appt was 16 weeks and next isn't til 28. Just seems a while between appointments. I had an independent midwife for number 2 so appointments were much more frequent.

Sarah2506 · 19/02/2013 21:07

I am doing my head in this evening. I weighed myself this morning and I was a kilo more than I was on Friday. As only half the week has passed this puts me on track for a 2kg or nearly 4lb weight gain. This counts as 'excessive' and so I have now diagnosed myself with pre-eclampsia. I have no other symptoms and no reason to think anything is up. If only I hadn't got on the scales! I'm not obviously swollen, I don't know where it is going! Pls reassure me that I'm being a first time mum worrier! I'm also thirsty so assume I have diabetes as well. Argh!!!

redwellybluewelly · 19/02/2013 21:15

learnermummy I saw MW at 9ish, 16, 24 (today) and 28 is my next one, however that may be because I am labelled as higher risk so being seen on the same schedule as a first timer.

sarah as a first timer last time and telling myself not to be silly and missing something I would say trust your instincts, give your MW a ring in the morning - are you ahem blocked up? I certainly went through growth spurts with the last one, and this one to although I haven't Blush stepped on the scales recently.

cyclecamper have you thought of laminate? I used to stay somewhere with laminate/wooden floors and it always helped my then BF asthma.

redwellybluewelly · 19/02/2013 21:16

I asked about movement today and MW said that they would start to worry about movement from 26-28 weeks onwards but that if I were ever really concerned I should go straight to the AN ward.

Olimoss · 19/02/2013 22:04

Thanks for the isofix info and tips. Will do some research.....

Re: movements, the consultant told me they get concerned if activity stops, or if the pattern abruptly changes (hence why I had the unplanned scan last week) but otherwise just to be aware of patterns. My bump gets incredibly hard and tight as the day progresses, with real low-pelvic discomfort by late afternoon, but the kid still kicks and punches joyously so I figure it must be ok. Don't fancy another 15 weeks of this feeling though.
