Just popping in to say congrats to Faith (it's me, MadameBoolala). Yay for a teeny tiny pink baybee.

cakeandcava · 15/04/2013 03:33

Congtatulations Faith!! Well done you :)
Enjoy the babysnuggles. The coming weeks are a bit mental but totally wonderful...

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 15/04/2013 18:51

Thanks! Feel a bit all over the shop but she's awesome! Still getting the hang of feeding (normal for a dinky baybee it seems) but so far all Obs ok and neonatal checks passed. We will be heading home when feeding is well established (currently bf but having top ups from cup). I'm actually fine with that - I don't feel ready to do this on our own yet!

So pleased for you Faith every time I read your comments or see her little face it makes me beam from ear to ear!! A little squidgy baybee!!

fertilityFTW · 16/04/2013 08:50

Hope all is well faith and you're getting happily high of of the new baby smell! Do post an update when able!

Am off for 36wk scan and consultant appt. later today - to see what exit babyFTW is veering towards - am certain she's still extended breech (MW said as much as well) - wonder if they'll book a CS date today? Not keen on an ECV from what I've read so far - would much rather risks, no matter how minimal, are limited to me rather than baybee.

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 16/04/2013 13:40

Hello all. Staying in hospital today, still trying to establish feeding. She barely slept last night - cluster feeding instead til she had a whopping 28ml this morning but still fussy in her sleep. Staff took her off me a couple of times to settle her and let me sleep then MSB rocked her for a couple of hours! Just had some lunch (both of us) so will see how we go. Exhausted is not the word....

fertilityFTW · 17/04/2013 08:23

All booked in for an ELCS second week of May. Feel a little bummed, but hey-ho - at least I have a date to obsess fixate focus on and hopefully a luffly squidge at the end of it all.

Going to order a couple of those Bravado bras you'd mentioned Dor - did you find there was a significant size change between 36/38wks and the milk coming in?

How's the day shaping up faith? Thinking of you and little, hope you're home and have managed to sneak in a few windows of rest.

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 17/04/2013 08:59

I feel like I have a different baybee. She is feeding 2-3 hourly, latching well then topping up and sleeping in Between feeds. Preferred sleep location is on me but we achieved sleep with her in a side cot and me wrapped round her - the nursery nurse was laughing saying I was practically in there with her! Gradually pulled out and we've both slept for a couple of hours at a time. She even woke me for food this morning. I'm starting to feel like I'm getting the hang of things and what she expects/needs. Phew. Won't be returning her after all

Sorry it's got to be a c-section. I have to say as I was pushing a back to back baybee out I really, really wanted one! It'll be ok I'm sure. I've seen planned c-sections and they are lovely, calm experiences.

Aah! That sounds wonderful! Am so glad to hear it, must be such a relief to have some quiet time in between feeds and 2-3hrs sounds textbook perfect!

MsJupiterJones · 17/04/2013 10:25

Wow that's great Faith. Sounds absolutely perfect.

Fertility I ended up having a CS and it really was a wonderful experience, yes recovery is slower but the anaesthetists and midwife were fantastic and the joy and bonding was incredible. Do ask if you have any Qs. There was a thread on bfeeding after a CS recently which had lots of advice (including mine!).

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 17/04/2013 11:15

Well if she can keep feeding like she had been they're happy for me to stop the top up feed. We might just be able to go home later! Only thing is my blood pressure was up so they'll check it again in a bit.

I have a feeling we'll need a bed best for this cuddly monkey!

OP posts:
fertilityFTW · 17/04/2013 11:15

Oh, MsJones! Any info that comes to your mind based on your experience would be great. I've just been so wrapped up in MLU birth plans that this has really taken me by surprise.

I'm also surprised to find myself a little bit frightened (have never had any medical issues and have a bit of an issue with canulas - make me panic!) though am generally pretty okay with blood and gore.

And I guess there's the feeling that I'll be unable to 'participate' in the birth - is that silly?

Did you get skin-to-skin right away? Could you point me towards the BF thread by any chance? - it's a big concern I have. Am off googling recovery tips - do let me know if you have any of your own!

MsJupiterJones · 17/04/2013 12:36

I just re-read my message, should point out I meant joy & bonding with DS not the midwife!

This is the bf thread. I'll have a think if I have any other tips. But yes I did have skin to skin straight away and it was wonderful to have that, I would definitely request it.

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 17/04/2013 13:13

I think that immediate skin to skin is the best feeling, ever. No matter what route your poor baybee gets dragged out and is quite agitated and upset. The second they put baybee on you something clicks - like this thought goes through their head of Oh I know you and you feel them relax. It's awesome!

OP posts:
fertilityFTW · 17/04/2013 14:16

That's a great thread MsJones, thank you!

Oh, I'm aching for that moment faith! It feels like I've been waiting for her forever.

MsJupiterJones · 17/04/2013 14:32

Shit that made me tear up Faith. Perfectly put.

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 17/04/2013 16:42

I can't imagine anything will ever compare to that moment...,

Argh don't think we are quite ready for home. Faithlet hadn't BF since 8am despite repeated attempts/approaches, just no! I topped her up and then she wailed like a banshee. Finally got her on the boob and she's fed for 15 mins on side, 5 the other. Hard work this malarkey. They've suggested we stay in tonight but move from Transitional care (she doesn't really need it any more!) to the post natal ward so they can get me practising using a pump so if I do cup feed I can actually give her my expressed milk. Feel like two steps forward, one back but I guess it's progress and its much better than it was yesterday...,

faith i spent all afternoon at Clinic 11. wasn't expecting to be there so long, would have brought that book to drop off with you if i'd known....

FriendofDorothy · 17/04/2013 22:36

I didn't find a massive difference in size fertility. Plus the bravado ones are multi sized so have a bit if leeway IYSWIM.

FriendofDorothy · 17/04/2013 22:38

Very impressive that you are getting so much help faith. I certainly didn't feel that there was that much support over here.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 17/04/2013 23:27

Oh this is so tough! This baby is unbelievably hungry. The expressing was a roaring success - got over 50 mls off. She had 1/2 that, nearly settled then almost settled but poo clean up woke her. 20 min bf, then rest of EBM, now on other boob. When will it end?! Screaming in between. I will try snuggling her down into cot again. I want the loo but that's a while off I fear!

fertilityFTW · 18/04/2013 07:43

Thanks Dor! Have ordered a couple, fingers crossed.

Wow, faith - I think I knew how theoretically tough it's meant to be, but your accounts are really driving it home. Hope you had a good night though!

fertilityFTW · 18/04/2013 08:17

Holy crap! The bras just arrived - how is that even possible?! Instant delivery - guess they appreciate the urgency of the heavily updiffed! Just tried them on and they are SO comfortable - I feel like a new woman! Thanks Dor!

HadALittleFaithBaby · 18/04/2013 09:37

Don't worry, not all baybees are as tricky as ours ftw. Just try to grow yours as big a possible!

Still finding things tough - essentially cluster fed again overnight. I did sleep because the staff took her and cup feed her and settled her. The expressing has been successful so she's had two cup feeds of EBM and one formula top up.

Then she'd gone 4 hours without feeding and wouldn't latch. Had a chat with one of the TC nurses and agreed to try a nipple shield - worked a treat! Good 10 min feed. Now having skin to skin waiting for MSB to arrive. I'll hand her over to him and set myself up as a dairy cow to express again in a minute. Probably staying another day to establish feeding.
