HI Everyone

Sorry I've not been on in a while. Ive been too worn out with working and trying to get our house on the market to post. (DH thinks moving in July or August is a good thing!!) Oh and I've been to Greece for some sun!

I wanted to share a frustrating experience with the doctors though in case anyone else finds themselves in this situation....

I have had a couple of "funny turns". My vision went really strange, i felt odd, by balance went completely (so I fell down the stairs) and I lost feeling in my left side of my upper body. So, as I was visiting my parents and was 200 miles away from my antenatal unit I went to A&E. I had blood tests done, ECG's, loads of muscle and nerve function tests, they found nothing so sent me home. Two weeks later it happened again at work. This time I went nowhere near any stairs and phoned my midwife who made me go into the hospital for observation. Again millions of tests, a cardiologist, a neurologist and an ophthalmologist all drew blanks so I was sent home (I feel better after about 3h) but I was given an appointment to see my antenatal consultant. To cut a long story short it is only migraines! but without the head pain and with weird loss of feeling in limbs. My consultant told me it was a typical way for migraines to manifest in pregnancy and couldn't believe no-one else had picked it up!!

I'm so glad it was eventually diagnosed as it was really freaking me out but I really wish I could have seen someone who had a clue earlier! my GP was advising me not to go on holiday because of it! And even the junior doctors at the antenatal clinic misdiagnosed it and wanted me to have a CAT scan! I got the fit to fly letter the day before my flight from the consultant.

Anyway, enough ramblings about what turned out to be a really minor problem! hope you are all well with big wriggly bumps.

Entropy xx

Morning ladies
Had my 28 week appt with mw yesterday and all well.I am going for my GTT on Wed at the local hospital. My mw is on duty all weekend and my partner has a whole weekend off(for a change) so she will try and squeeze in a visit to us to discuss homebirth. My dp is a bit happier about it but i hope she can reassure him a bit re the safety etc.As long as my GTT is ok it's all systems go on the homebirth Grin.
We won't have a nursery(never had one)Blush. My 2 boys were in crib in our room and ended up in with us till they were around 2.5 and dd (21 months) co-sleeps too.If they were in a room on their own i couldn't sleep esp when tiny babies. The guidelines suggest sleeping in the same room for 6 months now anyway so that's whatwe'll be doing again.
We are doing up the spare room this weekend for dd,will be cream with girly bedding as baby will be in there eventually and could be a boy so don't want barbie pink(yuck yuck) on the walls.
Hope you are all doing well and have a great weekend.
ps,i'm 9 loo rolls.

spub · 05/05/2006 08:01

Morning, all.
Aggie - lol at my elective being scheduled during the world cup. I'm Scottish and in Scotland so the World cup is more of a vague reality here as our team were too pants to qualify - however dh is from Engerland so I hope SF's experience isn't repeated with me and that it's not the world cup final and that if it is, England aren't playing......
SF - glad June 30th is an auspicious day for you and it would be nice to share a birthday for our offspring!
Pink- I'm aso strggling with pain turning over in bed. going from right to left is speshly sore; this baby is transverse lie at present so that may be a factor - I've got 2 huge feet in my right rib!
Re buggies and prams - we have a M&P travel system from dd so a "big pram" for the early days. I also have a McLaren Techno which I love. So easy to move but do watch out for the topple effect fron hanging loads of shopping from buggy handles!
I am covered in stretch marks on my belly. It's just your luck and your skin type, apaprently. I'm very pale and freckly and so am prone to them. Belly looks like a road map of Britain!
Entropy, I'm glad you got your diagnosis and it's nothing sinister. Must have been a dreadful worry, though.
Quick question = anyone considering a private room? I was sooooo lucky last time around but atthe hospital on Tuesday there were some really quite scary women (dh called them troglydites (sp?)) and I had a slight sinking feeling.....

nixnoo · 05/05/2006 09:18

spub, can I ask which hospital? Our hospital had some VERY scarey moments on the tour too. The private room sounds good, but would it be too isolated? I am also in 2 minds. Although the midwife warned not to take anything valuable with me as the "neighbours" on the ward might steal when I am in the shower!

spub · 05/05/2006 09:40

Nix,
I'm at Stirling Royal. This is my 2nd baby and actually last time there I shared a room with 2 fab women and I still see them every week so I had a brilliant experience. I just sense that I might not be that lucky again; I'm in for 4 days cos it's a section so the room mates thing could be quite an issue. If it's your first baby then I think that being on your own could be quite isolating.
I think it's true every where that hospitals get a diverse mix of people and normally, I'm not averse to being around all sorts but after surgery I may not be as up for it as usual so that's why I was wonderign about a room on my own!

HumphreysCorner · 05/05/2006 10:55

Morning ladies

Our new maternity hospital only has private rooms as I said before you give birth in there and stay until you go home. Last time I ended up in a private room due to shortage of staff so they shut 1 ward-did feel alone though. No choice this time.

entropy-glad to hear things are not as serious as first thought. I am a serial migraine sufferer but don't get them when PG so not looking forward to them returning every AF.

Got a scan on Tuesday to see if my low lying placenta has moved-I'm sure it has as madam is kicking absolutely everywhere so the placenta has no chance of staying in one place Grin

Envy of all of you having hols. Haven't been anywhere for 4 years now-DH never takes time off work anyway. Must go somewhere next year even if it is just up the coast.

I think DD2 will be born early at the end of June so the race is on girls Smile

I'll just go and do the loo roll test..........................................................9 3/4 still!

In bed I have to sit up to turn over and if I lay on my left side my heart hurts. Doesn't help that I have to loo visit about 6 times during the night but as soon as I have been and stand up my bladder feels full again.

DD at mum and dad's and did ironing yesterday so it is feet up day today.

Have a lovely day all and bye for now.

puddytat99 · 05/05/2006 11:51

Hi Everyone

Hope that you're all enjoying the sunshine and not too puffy. Now 31+ weeks.

Entropy - Glad everything got sorted, that must have been scary while they were trying to figure it out. I totally feel for you as I suffer from migraines but haven't had any during pg.

Spud - It's the reverse in our house, I'm English and DH is Scottish. lol at your DH calling some of the women trogladites, not heard that for ages (also not sure of spelling!!!).

Baby is coming in with us as we only have 2 bedrooms and can't see DS at 12 being too happy about sharing. Also looking into moving and are hoping to move up to Scotland but not sure when would be best.

As for hospital rooms, here you go onto a ward and only get a private room if you've had a csection. Also don't get a hospital tour anymore, so have to check everything out online.

Just measured myself and still 9 sheets. Bought some lovely 3/4 trousers but because my bump isn't big enough can't wear them as they keep falling down. Maybe I'll get bigger just before I pop. Grin

Looks like there's going to be a race on to see who'll pop first. DS was due 6 July same as this one and came on 23 June, so you never know. Wink

I'd better go as I've gone on loads. hope you all have a lovely weekend.

MummyZena · 05/05/2006 13:00

Hi All

Friday again, where are these weeks going? DD's 2nd B'day party went really well last weekend she has a new pink bike and she loves it.

Feet too big for sandles, nose bleeds, feeling great! fab weather and looking forward to the beginning of June when I finish work.

Take care all, no more falling down stairs falling over or anything like that, we must take more care of ourselves, belly buttin about to pop out and stretch marks all over my poor belly Sad they will fade!

Enjoy the sun xxx

deblaca · 05/05/2006 13:05

puddytat - you're bump NOT big enough, well thats just not fair (said as i sit here with my maternity jeans straining at the seams) xx

deblaca · 05/05/2006 13:08

mummyzena with you on the nose bleeds - i think is because of my hayfever, which has kicked in - any other sufferers out there and any suggestions for remedies you can take while pregnant??

IamBlossom · 05/05/2006 15:28

Sorry Debacla, can't help you there.

What a beeyooteeful day despite forecasts of thundery showers. It is gorge out there. DH skiving and mowing the grass, I've just been swimming, it's Friday, life is good. Is this the calm before the proverbial storm??

Had 28 week check with the midwife today, all fine. She said i was measuring a week big for dates, and if I go 2 weeks adrift they may choose to rescan me.....it could either mean I am due earlier or this baby is BIIIIIGGGG! Kind of hoping it's the former, but not too early please - have just bought series 1-3 of Sex in the City to watch whilst on leave, and I shall want to get a fair few of those watched before this LO arrives....I'm all for getting priorites straight me! Smile

Off shopping tomorrow with pregnant sister for her to get all her baby bits as this is her first. There was me thinking I had everything I need, but the more I think about it the longer the list gets! mainly things I need but borrowed last time, and aren't going to borrow again! At least I know what I will definitely use this time......like the bouncy vibrating chair from Mothercare we borrowed last time, buying my own this time as couldn't have done without it with DS, he lived in it....

Am leaving DS with DH for the day - DS taking his dad swimming, it will be interesting to see a) the state of the house when I get back and b) how knackered DH is after a full day of childcare, which if I rack my brains I don't think he has done ever!! He he he, if it rains he's screwed.....

have great weekends girls.

Love Bloss.

Thanks kayzed.
My symptoms are definitely suppressed more than normal ........ I'd rather try something natural before steroid nasal spray (even if 'safe')
As for lucozade, its currently one of my 'weaknesses' along with choc ices and cake - um no wonder i'm brusting out of my clothes (i too had a glucose drink for my gtt and agree its not easy to swallow - yuk)
Have a great weekend yall

pinkdolly · 05/05/2006 19:11

Evening girls,

Had a busy day, nesting I think. Re-arranged and tidied the girls bedroom then started on the garage. Dh is gonna be so mad when he gets home in a bit. He hates me lugging things about.

The weather has been good here, and the girls have spent loads of time in the garden. Burning some energy.

Maewest - Glad you enjoyed your stay down here, if I knew you were coming I would've put the flags out. Where in Cornwall were you staying?

Baby will be in with me and dh as well. Both the girls were in my room for the recommended 6 months and then they went into their own bedrooms.
Not sure how long this one will be in with us, as my mum occupies our 3rd bedroom. I dont mind rooming in for a bit tho.

Entropy- sorry to hear about your migraines. Lets hope you dont get any more.

Puddytat- What are you like! Keep an eye on that foot. And dont worry about LO. I took a bad fall when I was first pg , didnt know it at the time and was on a whole host of v.strong painkillers till I found out I was pg at about 7 weeks. scans say baby is perfect so you'll be alright. Babies are well protected in there.

Big hello to everyone else, sorry if i've missed anybody out, haven't slept properly for a few nites and am shattered. Have a nice weekend.

Chat2Ali · 05/05/2006 21:19

Hello gals,

Its been a busy day on here today!
Glad to hear everyone (across the country) has been enjoying the beautiful weather -- may it last!

I picked up my friend from the airport this afternoon. It was great to see her, but sadly now she is jet-lagged and has gone to bed early. Too early even for my preggy routine Grin, so instead I decided to get on MN and join my other friends!

Stretchmarks! Yes I have them too. I am so stripy, my stomache looks like a zebra! I think you are right about it being to do with skin-type, Spub. At least thats what my MW tells me. My GP says the best stretch-mark cream is by Zita West, but is expensive. Apparently its what all the celebs use. She also said as a tip for after the birth that Zita West makes a cream called "Comfort Down Under." She swears by it! I had to laugh though, as that phrase would normally bring to mind a trip home to Aus, a visit to my Mum's, homecooking, eating twisties or a big ripe juicy mango etc, and now has a whole NEW meaning! LOL Grin

bumpybel · 05/05/2006 21:53

Evening girls!

Went to my paretn craft last night and there were hundreds of couples there! (well at least twenty couples!) We had a tour of the hospital and whilst the birthing pool room was lovely and 'natural', I was a bit put off by the lack of medical equipment. Instead of a bed they had a mattress on the floor, some bean bag type things, a plant and a sofa. The main rooms also had a bath, but had the medical equipment, which seemed a bit more reassuring.. I think my idea of a water birth is being overtaken by the need to know i can have drugs if need be! I dont know if i'd feel comfy squatting over a bean bag either! Next week is the talk about pain relief and the actual birth!Yay! Oh god! It makes it seem so near and so real!

Went to aqua natal this morning and i'm the next but one due to go!!! Its like being in the sixth form (lower sixth... obviously the next one to 'go' is the upper sixth!!!)

Kayzed, had a little chuckle at your 'cup of icing'! I've got such a sweet tooth, I have probably increased sales of Mc Flurries by ten percent this pregnancy. Hope everythings ok for you though.

Entropy, glad you have a diagnosis at last. I would have been sh*tting myself in your shoes, so pleased they have given you an explanation. Take it easy.

Spub, cant believe you've moved from the 4th July!!! Maybe it'll jinx me into going early too!! That would be nice, as I'm already feeling massive and it seems like ages away.

Have a fab weekend all!

bumpybel · 05/05/2006 22:03

... Forgot to mention... Boobs are leaking like absolute buggery now! Considering changing name to 'unigate'. I say boobS... its significantly more from the right one than from the left! Nice! What with that and the puffy left ankle I am a picture of gorgeousness!! Grin

bumpybel · 05/05/2006 22:05

Is unigate dairy or toothpaste? ... Having a fluffy moment... oh well!

AggiePanther · 05/05/2006 22:24

Evening all,
HC I know what you mean about feeling like you need to go as soon as you've been - I'm thinking of moving my bed into the loo! I know it's only going to get worse over the next 10 weeks :(
I can't believe I've got another 10 weeks to go actually - I'm sure she's going to come early there can't be much room in there and I can't believe my belly can get bigger still!

Luckily no new stretch marks tho - still just got the one from DD 11 years ago - aparently I have very stretchy skin though - or so I was told when I had my bellybutton pierced. Talking of bellybuttons mine is sticking out now too - it's like a little soft nose:) with a funny little mole on the end GrinThe piercing looks a bit weird though balancing on top of it!

AggiePanther · 05/05/2006 22:26

lol bumpy at the mental image of you leaking and puffy Grin

deblaca · 05/05/2006 22:34

aggie lol at piercing on your outtie

HumphreysCorner · 06/05/2006 08:57

Morning ladies

32 weeks today and 24 days until I finish work Grin

Have a headache from hell and paracetamol aren't working. The midwife said to look out for this as it is a sign of pre-eclampsia. I'm just putting it down to the hot weather.

Is such an effort to do anything.

DD calling so better go.

Have a lovely day everyone.

pinkdolly (think it was you) we were in North Cornwall near Wadebridge, really quiet.

Was 28 weeks exactly yesterday, and I just have a feeling that bub will be late, so may end up in early August... but we shall see! Yesterday was also our team away day, over in Herefordshire. Spent the morning paddling our canoes in glorious sunshine (arms are aching a bit today!). Then in afternoon sat out the gorge walking as it involved wearing a harness, scrambling over rocks and climbing up a waterfall. The sort of thing I'd love normally, but not really on the cards at the moment - too weebly :) Luckily I had my pg workmate to keep me company - 2 out of only 12 staff in the company, hows that for timing! She's about 10 wks behind me.
