Straightforward · 16/05/2006 10:41

Hi girls

Thanks for being so understanding about my rant yesterday. From reading the posts since, it seems there are quite a few of us getting upset about stuff - is it just coincidence or do you think this is a hormonal stage (obviously not being helped by irritating friends, gas companies etc)?

Think my state of mind will be helped enormously when DH returns and FIL moves into his flat on Monday. I normally get on well with him, but having him under my nose in a smallish flat is now completely doing my head in! 2 weeks with either of my own parents would be bad enough! Still, he's just bought a massive packet of choccie bics, so it can't be all bad...

Kayzed - interesting thought about going it alone. It hadn't even crossed my mind as an option, but it's true that there's not a fat lot men can do anyway. I suppose for me it's having them around in the few hours after that is most crucial. Have you thought about perhaps having a home birth, or would that freak your DS out do you think?

Twirl · 16/05/2006 10:51

I am having a home birth and the midwives are happy for my toddler to be at home with me provided that I am not her carer as I will have more important things to do!!! They said that DH could look after her or get a friend round. DH was pretty useless at the birth last time round so if none of my friends are around to look after DD then I will just get on with it with the midwives.

Twirl · 16/05/2006 10:52

Straightforward - think if my inlaws were staying I'd have hit the bottle by now Grin. You are doing really well - keep eating the biscuits!

dangirl · 16/05/2006 11:30

Morning girlsSmile

I think we could rename this the official "ranting site" Grin it must be the hormonal stage at the moment as I feel it too! Have had much lower thresshold for getting irritated and annoyed lately. In my case it could also be all the crap sugary food that I eatBlush really must start to eat better things...

Back is killing me and nothing seems to help really. Had another massage on Sat but didn't seem to have any effect this time. Shame!

I too am feeling a bit sad re the upcoming changes to family dynamics. I love being able to spend so much 1:1 time with DD and will really miss that when LO arrives! There is no pleasing me...

Going for another growth scan tomorrow. Will see if LO still on 97th percentile Shock I am pretty sure that it will be.

Have a antenatal refresher course booked for fri pm. Hope it is worth while.

Have a lovely day all.

Hugs from
Dangirl

Hi ladies, hope you all had a good weekend!!
My ds1 (14.5) brought his girlfriend over on Sunday.AFAIK it's his first ever and he is in luuuurvvvee!!!! It's very sweet but also very scary. The 11 year old girl who'd pg lives in my area so had a chat with him about contraception etc.The gf seems nice, very pretty but didn't speak much.Ds1 says she has a stammer and was feeling a bit overwhelmed but hopefully we made her feel welcome enough she will come back againWink.
Seeing mw on Thursday, she wants to do a blood test to check my iron levels.Need to keep them up for my homebirth so hope they are ok and i don'tneed tablets.
Dp off yesterday and today and spare room was meant to be transformed into a bedroom for dd but he had to put new pump on car, turned out to be a nightmare and only starting today.
Take care all xx

spub · 16/05/2006 13:58

Hi to all.
Agalch - so sweet about ds's girlfriend but good on you for having the contraceptive chat. Are you in East/West Lothian then? Re thr iron levels - I thoroughly recommend spatone liquid iron sachets from Boots. You add them to fruit juice. They taste ok, are safe in pg and have deffo helped me since I started 2 a day about a month ago.
SF - glad you're having a less ranty day. I think it must be the stage we're all at because I go from wanting to burst into tears to wanting to punch someone in the space of milliseconds right now. Am actually about to phone a company and complain that one ot their drivers threw an empty fag packet, brown bag and remains of breakfast and spat out of the window all the way in front of me during my epic 2 hr (usually 1hr) commute to work yesterday!!!
Dan - sympathies re your back. My chiropractor and pg massuese lady are my best friends right now and even their best efforts haven't stopped the pain entirely!
Kayzed - the leg cramps are a mare. My massage lady suggests rotating your ankles for a few minutes before bed and all the other stuff about bananas and water before bed and also yogurt. I can go for days with no cramp and then it starts up again. Who'd think such a heiffer could move so fast??
Have a good afternoon!

jersey · 16/05/2006 14:26

Hi, god is it hot, or is it just me. So far so good on the swelling legs I don't seem to have got it yet this time Grin. Re the leeking boobs, mine where bad last time almost constant and the pads showed through my clothes Blush. So far this time they haven't started, keeping my fingers crossed.

Apart from the triedness which I think I'm used to I only had one moment of hormones on sunday with the child from hell. After having DS on my own for 2 weeks needed a bit of me time without spending it doing ironing, painting etc..

Oh well not long to go now. 6 weeks left at work and when on maternity the inlaws are still having DS 4 days 8 til 2 so that the pattern is well established for afterwards so as not to disturb DS' routine any more than is necessary.

Fortunatley I get on with my in laws most of the time, its my parents that I don't! Mine have said they are coming down to help out when the baby is born!!!! Thought we had escaped this as we don't have a spare bed any more, but they are going to stay locally Shock. DH is not impressed either.

Oh well hopefully it won't last long.

Hope everyone is well and managing to rest a bit.

jersey · 16/05/2006 14:27

Just thought if I can manage to deliver at 37 weeks they are on holiday Grin!!!

Already had my orders not to as it isn't convenient Wink.

Wallace · 16/05/2006 14:50

Hello all, I haven't been managing to post much, but I do read everything.

I had my 30 week check with the midwife today (I am 29+5) and all is well. Baby is breech, but still plenty of time to turn, and has it's back to my back, which probably won't change because dd an ds were both that way round.

I am feeling really well, and still lots of energy. I cleaned out the porch this morning, and sorted out all the shoes. And scrubbed the floor on my hands and knees! I am knackered know mind you!

Clara1 · 16/05/2006 15:00

Hello everyone,
Haven't had time to post much as always seem to spend ages reading messages from everyone else. But just wanted to ask a quick question about hand, foot and mouth disease. Spent the weekend with a baby who has it and wondered if it is at all harmful when pregnant. Not worried about DD's as they have both had it already when they were small but just a bit concerned about LO. Does anyone know?

jersey · 16/05/2006 15:18

Clara I found this on the internet, hope it helps:

What are the risks to pregnant women exposed to children with HFMD?

Because enteroviruses, including those causing HFMD, are very common, pregnant women are frequently exposed to them, especially during summer and fall months. As for any other adults, the risk of infection is higher for pregnant women who do not have antibodies from earlier exposures to these viruses, and who are exposed to young children - the primary spreaders of enteroviruses.

Most enterovirus infections during pregnancy cause mild or no illness in the mother. Although the available information is limited, currently there is no clear evidence that maternal enteroviral infection causes adverse outcomes of pregnancy such as abortion, stillbirth, or congenital defects. However, mothers infected shortly before delivery may pass the virus to the newborn. Babies born to mothers who have symptoms of enteroviral illness around the time of delivery are more likely to be infected. Most newborns infected with an enterovirus have mild illness, but, in rare cases, they may develop an overwhelming infection of many organs, including liver and heart, and die from the infection. The risk of this severe illness in newborns is higher during the first two weeks of life.

Strict adherence to generally recommended good hygienic practices by the pregnant woman (see "Can HFMD be prevented?" below) may help to decrease the risk of infection during pregnancy and around the time of delivery.

It sounds like the risk is low to you as your kids have had it already so you will have a degree of immunity!

deblaca · 16/05/2006 16:13

pinkdolly et al - with you on the hormones - i've had a couple of flare ups that'd put a banshee to shame and then feel awful and teary

jersey - empathise re parents - my mum has "informed" me that she's booked her flight to come over from 5-19 july (s'pose she's planning on staying with me!!) the thing is i could easily go over to the 22nd or later and all because the flights are cheap now and its convenient for her!!!

clara - is it something you can get tested for?

had my m/w and scan and acupuncture appts today - all went v well - m/w v upbeat about home birth and everything looks ok for it (altho they do want to do a home visit in the coming weeks, for about 1-1.5 hrs to discuss everything, and we still live in a building site), - the scan was fab and hes growing well, saw his gorgeous little face today, amazing - and lastly the acupuncture was fine, I had to have a nap after it kinda wiped me out, not sure if thats usual, being the first time ever having it done

hope the rest of you are well and not ranting too much
xx

spub · 16/05/2006 17:53

deblaca - re the acupuncture - yes, I often feel wiped out and sleep really well after I've been "needled"!

Evening ladies

Love to read all your rants-someone at work today told me my hormones must be playing up as I don't seem to like any customer at the moment-not true of course Wink

Good news as have finally won 2 rolls of border on Ebay for far less than they have been sold for previously and I can even sell one on to get some money back. So thanks puddy and kayzed for your offers to get one for me.

Annie-I had to titter at your in-laws as they sound the same as mine. Have warned about no visiting the day I come home but bet they just ignore that as per usual. They will only do what they want to do! Hope you get things sorted. We will have to take DD to either PIL or my mum and dad but really hoping PIL will be away in the caravan so she can go to my parents. I have even thought that if we have to collect DD after the birth from PIL DH can take me home first and go back for her as I am not suffering hell like last time.

deblaca-good news about your scan hun.

Wallace-are you doing the crawling round on your hands and knees bit with your bottom in the air to try and get your baby to turn? Quite uncomfortable but worked for me when having DD, she was only back to back for 1 week-this was on midwives advice.

dangirl-hope your scan goes OK and your baby isn't on the 110th centile Grin.

Now, had to go to another Branch yesterday to do some telecontacting (yuk) but 2 of the men looked at me and said 'don't like to ask but are you pregnant?' The lady in the wallpaper shop said a similar thing and today the lady in the newspaper shop said she was sorry she didn't get to say goodbye to the girl at work who is having the baby but how brave she was working until 2 weeks before her due date. I agreed that she was mad and said I am leaving in 2 weeks which will be 4 1/2 weeks before and she stared at me and said 'why are you pregnant as well?'. Felt like screaming NO I'M JUST FAT !

FFS (scuse language) but how can you not tell that I'm pregnant??? I really must look so terribly overweight and this must be why none of the customers have said anything about me being pregnant. I am going to have to wear a badge saying 'Not fat, just pregnant'.

OK my rant over.

Although I am sleeping abit better now I am still shattered all the time.

Anyway love to all as I'm off to get some tea ready.

xxx

Wallace · 16/05/2006 18:52

kayzed - I did have normal deliveries for ds and dd, and I don't think they were any longer or more painful than average (memory is a bit fuzzy Grin)

LOL HC, at crawling around on my hands and knees with bottom in the air - I think I beter start scrubbing my floors! The midwife said that a midwife friend of hers swears by doing duck dives to the bottom of a swimming pool - says it works every time!

If it does stay breech I think I would still try for a normal delvery - would do just about anything to avoid a section!

koshka1984 · 16/05/2006 19:00

He he!
Hi everyone hope we're all feeling calmer today....Smile
I am going to delay moving house a few weeks, so I have more time for tidying and packing so it does not stress me out.
HC - A good idea about a badge! I want one, so when i go out it says yes im pregnant and no, this is only lemonade SO keep your nose out!

pinkdolly · 16/05/2006 20:04

Evening gals!

Am glad I am not the only only one feeling hormonal, you have all made me feel a bit better.
Am also suffering v.badly with forgetfulness, by the time I have read your posts and come to write my own message I have forgotton wot you all wrote. Which means I have to keep scrolling up and down.

HC- I've still got people asking me if I'm pg, how can they not know? I've gained nearly 2 stone and I look like a heffer!
BTW- Glad you got your border sorted out.

Jersey- Should we all be keeping our fingers crossed that you give birth early?Wink
I cant escape my mum as she lives here, but we more like v.good friends, although she'll be useless at the birth coz she doesn't like blood. So she will have to look after the girlies for me.
Im fortunate that although I dont really get on with my in-laws, i dont see them that much. So I shouldn't have to worry about them getting in the way.

Not that im one for resting after the birth. With DD2, I went into labour at 1am, she was born at 3am and I was at my parents house by 11am showing her off. My dad was a bit gobsmacked I think. Mind you, he is very old fashioned and thinks that you ought to stay in hospital for a week after having a baby.

This time it will be so much nicer to relax in my own house.

Well am off for a rest, my back is really playing up and I have more hydrotherapy in the morning. It really hurt last time, but i'm sure it's doing me some good.

nite, nite ladies!

jom · 16/05/2006 21:48

Nixnoo - LOL my boots vouchers for the parenting club arrived by post today! Hopefully you'll get yours soon too Smile

Kayzed- just finalised organising my parents accomodation today as they're coming over to help out too. Unfortunately they can't stay here though as there's no room

OldieMum · 16/05/2006 22:01

Hi everyone. I've just got back from Tesco. I went to buy other things, but wandered over to the baby aisle and bought a few things. I tried to remember what has useful last time around. I hope I'm not duplicating what others have suggested, and I'm not suggesting that the following are essential for everyone to get in advance of the birth, but they are things I found useful and sometimes needed in a hurry last time.

Bath/bedroom temperature gauge (actually, this is an essential)

Nipple shields (for protecting cracked nipples while breastfeeding. I bought a tube of Lansinoh cream a while ago.)

Infacol - helps baby burp away wind - give before feeding and it makes all the little bubbles of wind coalesce into a big one they can burp out.

Mild baby washing cream - I bought a bottle made by Simple.

Maternity pads - for post-birth bleeding

Newborn-size nappies

Bodysuits for newborns

Socks for newborns

Tesco are also selling cheapish changing bags - own brand and also Mamas and Papas. I bought a messenger bag style one, but they also have backpacks. I had a backpack last time (too grotty to re-use), but found that I rarely wore it as a rucksack. The Mamas and Papas bags include a changing mat and bag for dirty nappies, but have no insulated compartment for bottles. I bought a separate one of these - I anticipate doing a mixture of breast and bottle feeding, as I did last time.

I hope this is useful to someone!

deblaca · 16/05/2006 23:14

spud that'll explain the sleepiness then
kayzed - i have an anterior placenta but lo is in ideal position at the mo and was at last scan also (28 wks) - hopefully he'll stay that way, with a little bit of coaching from his mum
i agree with HC supposed to do the trick - and Wallace heard that getting your partner to talk to the baby through a 'empty' loo roll holder down near your pelvis help them turn from breach, also acupuncture has a very high (70%) success rate at turning breach babies, certainly worth a try .... Wallace is your lo breach then??
oldiemum - all advice helps - thanks

jersey · 17/05/2006 09:00

Thanks pinkdolly, lets say I will be trying a few ideas at 37 weeks to start labour off Wink!

Oldiemum, infacol was a godsend to us as DS had bad colic and this stuff def. helped.

Think I may need to start the crawling soon as well as this one seems to alternate between breech and laying across me facing down as I haven't felt anything higher than my belly button. Will have to see what the scan shows next week. Don't want a c-section if I can possibly avoid it.

Congrats on getting the border HC, I don't know why people list stuff and then don't stock it!!!

Shock of the year, DH did the ironing last night whilst I did some work for one of my essays ShockShock!!!!!!

sunita123 · 17/05/2006 11:27

Hello ladies,
My first time on this July thread. I'm due on 19/07. It wasn't until on of the ladies (I think it was you spub) directed me to this thread that I even thought of looking.

We moved house at the end of March and have been really busy sorting out everything. Getting myself a new MW was top of the list. Getting DS into a Pre-school was second, and everything else had to be sorted as we came accross it.
Managed to decorate DS's room first (He kept going on about choosing his own w.paper).
Did the main bedroom next - don't I know about it with all these aches and pains. Still have the Nursery to do! Have said to DH to wait a couple of weeks before trying to do that.
So excuse me if I'm joining this thread a bit late!
Goodness - All you ladies who have packed their bags already! I haven't even started mine!!! Although I did buy some bits for baby this weekend and I do actually have a bag of baby stuff that I can actually use from when I had DS. I just need to pack a bag now.

Will try the loo roll test at some point.
HC - Sorry to bother you but ... If you could add me to the list it would be Much Appreciated.

Thanks
