Awful news, it's a chilling insight into how defensive people seem to be there

BB01 · 14/02/2013 10:16

Ama, LOL!! Am always doing things like that. Once worked in an office where when we answered the phones we said 'good morning, [department we worked in], how can I help?'. One day we had a knock on the door and a guy from my team answered the door automatically saying the same phone spiel he usually did, parrot fashion - cringe!!

Flying, what a bummer. I'd probably get second and third opinions though if I was you..sometimes people give advice it's better to not do something without realising how important that thing may have been.

I have bump confusion. One day am told 'aww you defo have a baby bump now!'. Next day 'There's NOTHING there!!'. Delete as appropriate depending on what I'm wearing and/or have eaten that day!!! I would have thought it was blimmin obvious that it wouldn't be v visible under a big baggy jumper but people MUST point it out to me. Was finding all these comments quite funny until I became hyper sensitive after someone made a really nasty comment to me last week (still too mad to think about it enough to recall it!!). I definitely need to get a thicker skin ready for the increase in comments/'helpful' advice and weird questions when I really do have a bump and when LO arrives!!

photographerlady · 14/02/2013 11:23

BB01 hurtful comment? That sucks. I think people can be a bit mindless sometimes I told my boss and he response was "was it planned". classy :)

dinkystinky · 14/02/2013 11:39

BB01 - ignore the silly comments, sometimes its just people trying to make conversation and not really engaging brains. Comments this week to me have ranged from "You look really well" to "God, you've exploded! Is it twins?". I just smile, nod and ignore (this also works for the "helpful" advice when baby arrives). So sorry you got a really nasty comment from some one - karma will come back to bite them in the form of piles Wink

Abzs - you are a brave brave lady taking all those teenagers camping...

notprincesskate · 14/02/2013 12:07

I agree on the comments from people without brain engaged, problem is pesky hormones can also increase sensitivity, for me, a simple god you look exhausted last week translated by me, into you look totally awful and wrecked.....and then of course there are just the plain nasty ones, who karma will return the favour one day, my favourite for that category was, well as seen as your already overweight you'll be obese by then end of this, errr yes thanks I am acutely aware that I have a weight issue, sadly you don't seem to have the same self awareness about your personality!
I do feel that people especially at work seem to be watching everything I eat tho....especially when it's not the healthy things, and then feel the need to comment on what it is, just to make me feel bad, dam a job in healthcare and team of stick insects!

iclaudius · 14/02/2013 12:07

Oh I am so with you on the weight thing everyone! I am 29th July ( though will get baby sooner fx) so behind all you lot and had only just lost my baby weight from baby ds (11 months) I just feel disgusting and am only 16 weeks- no bump but a LOT of sudden fat ... Depressing
Not however depressing enough to stop me eating - it's dc 5 birthday today so that is a right off as if there's one thing better than junk food it's young persons junk food !

Abzs · 14/02/2013 12:46

dinky - it's not as bad as it sounds, honest! They're Explorers and Network, so 14-25 and there's a lot of leaders. It's a mountaineering event, so we're all fairly like minded. No actual camping, unless they really want to go and dig a snow hole. Also it's not on my Nights Away Permit...

I really want to go and play in the snow with crampons while I still can (and have clothes that fit). No skiing, no climbing and definitely no throwing myself down a hill for ice axe self-arrest practice, though. May be some cross country skiing if there's enough snow to make a soft landing.

Abzs · 14/02/2013 13:01

iclaudius I've got a roll of fat round my middle too. Strangely, I think my legs are thinner - the jeans I just bought are 'slim fit' which would never happen normally with my thighs. Maybe it's just migrated.

TotallyEggFlipped · 14/02/2013 13:13

Abzs my legs seem a little slimmer too. I'm not really convinced that I've actually put on much/any weight at all yet. I think I've just re-distributed to my belly! How much is average to have gained by 18 weeks? I'd assumed most of the weight gain would be in the second half of pregnancy.

MightBeMad · 14/02/2013 13:18

I certainly gain most of my weight in the second half last time around, but I think everyone is different on that. I wish my legs were looking thinner!!

Thinkingof4 · 14/02/2013 13:45

Congratulations Tom on the job and driving test.

Re the comments, someone told me this morning that my 'bump has just appeared from nowhere' but I think it really just depends on what top I am wearing as I think I've had a bump for weeks.
Weight gain! Well I'm not sure exactly but I'm now 20+2 and would say I've probably gained 5kg already. I guess because I didn't really puke in first trimester, and I've just been eating my way through the pregnancy so far...hungry all the time, vaguely trying to be healthy but quite a lot of chocolate being consumed (just treated myself to a double decker, yum Blush

TotallyEggFlipped · 14/02/2013 14:08

Thinkingof4 I found an (American) website with a pregnancy weight gain calculator that suggests I should've gained 2.8-5kg by 18 weeks, so it sounds like you're right on target. I was off my food quite a bit at the beginning, but I'm certainly making up for it in recent weeks.......

Gingerpanther27 · 14/02/2013 14:12

had scan this morning Grin the sonographer said he was been a wee rascal and was flashing for scotland lol Shock Blush and was hiding his face so couldnt get measurements so definitely blue bump :) does anyone have a clue as to where i'd find an emmaljunga car seat that doesnt cost the earth? its to fit the edge combi duo pram, and should i put up a seperate thread about it? hope everyone elses scans go well :)

dinkystinky · 14/02/2013 14:31

Happy birthday to mini Claudius no 5! Hope they ahve a lovely day today.

Glad you had a good scan Ginger. Lol at your exhibitionist baby! Do you want brand new car seat? If so, I suspect it will cost alot but worth checking online for cheapest price you can (try price comparison sites). If used is ok, take a look on ebay etc.

I think I gained most of my weight between 12 weeks and 18 weeks - I seem to have remained shaped like Humpty dumpty since then... Ho hum.

PrincessKate - ignore, ignore, ignore the stick insects. They are probably jealous of you having an excuse to treat yourself now and again.

Gingerpanther27 · 14/02/2013 14:55

well I've always been told new baby = new car seat unless history is know thn maybe....i was told think of it like a motorbike helmet, you wouldnt by a helmet you didnt know quality of so apply that to car seat, am very confused about all things baby right now and i bought my pram second hand so conflicting thoughts in my head right now regarding car seat Confused

dinkystinky · 14/02/2013 15:23

We reused our car seat from DS1 for DS2 (as knew no accidents). If you dont know the history of the car seat, I agree a new car seat is the best (especially if you are going to use it lots). I think all you can do is scour the internet for the best price...

Supershiv1 · 14/02/2013 17:06

Elephant thoughts from last night confirmed.
Been away with work for 2 days and just got back in and DH just said, "ruddy hell where's that come from?"
Will have to go and weigh myself now! Shock

Huffpot · 14/02/2013 17:07

I just saw that Kiddicare has a car seat on sale for £15 but not sure how good it is.

We were going to use our old one which has been in the garage but dug it out and its all mouldy so we have to get a new one?,!

Thinkingof4 · 14/02/2013 17:22

totally loving that website!! I don't feel too heavy...yet!

Carseats issue is tricky - we reused our maxi cosi for ds1,2&3 but I know theoretically they need replaced after 5 years as possible decline in plastic strength or something like that. However dh who is quite knowledgable about plastics and odd stuff like that says that is nonsense unless it's been stored in bright sunlight or extremes of temperature. So unsure what we'll do as yet Hmm

TotallyEggFlipped · 14/02/2013 17:47

Thinking I was advised that the replace after 5 years was out of date information and that current car seats are ok for much longer as long as they have some kind of CE thing??? Not sure what I'm talking about on the technical details, but your old car seats should be fine.

Thinkingof4 · 14/02/2013 18:19

Oh really! That's good to know. We may not use it much as I have a multimac in my car which is basically a big bench that attaches to back seat and allows me to have 4 children in the back. Its not brilliant for newborns so I might use maxi cosi in front passenger with airbag switched till babe a little bigger. Then all 4 in the back (eek, I can only imagine the noise!)

dinkystinky · 14/02/2013 18:30

Supershiv I think the only proper reply to that is "It came from you!" to your DH Grin

Thinking - am now imagining your car as some sort of tardis that can fit 4 kids along the backseat...

BadMissM · 14/02/2013 18:45

Glad to hear photographerlady and LO doing alright, and congratulations to tomdaleystrunks on the driving test and job!

I was at hospital yesterday...where they are still trying to convince me I don't want an elective caesarean. Um...yes I do. I nearly, very nearly died last time, I'm now quite ill with other problems, I've got gestational diabetes, and I'm 15 years older than last time... plus I know the hospital has left 2 friends of mine for three days of labour before an EMCS... so I want it all planned in advance. GRRRR!

OhGood · 14/02/2013 18:58

Hi all, just checking in, I have almost missed a whole thread - work taken over my life. 20 week scan today and all clear and fine apparently. V happy and releived and feel like I can start relaxing and enjoying it now. Also work have cracked and hired another person, which is great.

BadMissM stick to your guns. I find it ridiculous that you are having to argue for an ELCS when even NICE guidelines now show that there is no difference in risk either way. What's their reasoning when they try and dissuade you?

Beginningofthejourney · 14/02/2013 21:28

Hi everyone was just minding my own business reading today's posts and I just felt 2 proper kicks!!! Been feeling lots of movements over the past few days but that was a definite baby kick, so exciting! X
