princess how lovely hope you enjoyed the scan
badmissm wow that's an amazing difference in test results! Imagine the worry if you'd only had nhs test!
mini how stressful, hope you are getting good advice
tomdaley 4 of us actually, I'm just keeping quiet so I'm not outed- you become easy to identify when you are pg with no4!

We are land of snot again in our house, this time ds3 is worst and boy is he grumpy!! Poor wee mite must be feeling rubbish

TomDaleysTrunks · 07/02/2013 16:22

HI lorrie welcome to the thread.

princessllama and dinky glad scans went well. How lovely, am very jealous!

thinking It has taken me a few minutes to work out what you meant by 4 of us! Just twigged. I know a few medics on their fourth - you aren't alone!

Had 16 week appointment today with midwife. Med student completely ballsed up taking my bloods so my right arm is a bit sore! Other than no problems and no weight gain. Heard the heartbeat which was lovely.
The last 2 days I have been irrationally hungry. I am hoping it settles. Made myself go for a long hike this morning to try and get some exercise to burn off the incecream I ate last night

Oh and am starting to consider a homebirth. Anyone else got views/plans/experiences of this? DH won't be keen and will need a lot of convincing.

flyingsprocket · 07/02/2013 16:31

Well the consultant didn't wave a magic wand and fix my bleeding but I did hear my baby's heartbeat for the first time- wow 160bpm!!

They were more interested in referring me to an anaesthetist (maybe it's you totally) due to recent surgery on my lung. Am going back to see the consultant in 6 weeks as well as the anaesthetist & next week's midwife appointment & my 3 monthly chest X-ray. I could become a professional patient!

Glad you enjoyed your scan dinky & welcome lorrie July certainly will be a busy month in the country's labour wards!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 07/02/2013 17:23

Not posted on this thread yet and not on computer to add to list but just needed to post to say what a frightening day I've had.

Went for midwife app today as blood pressure was up twice last week, it was fine today but they couldn't hear the heartbeat. They tried and tried for 40 ish mins (heard twice before both times straight away) she was pretty sure it was tapping the machine and I thought I could feel the movements but was still worried sick! My pulse was racing as I am full of cold and chest infection and they couldn't say it was the baby or mine so got sent straight to hospital.

Got there and they couldn't hear it either so got sent for a scan and the little monkey was all curled up on its tummy so they said no wonder they couldn't hear it but all was fine thank goodness. scan was made worse as the midwife came down from the ward with us and another sonographer came in. There was a massive sigh of relief as soon as they saw the heartbeat and they left!

17+1

Persuasion · 07/02/2013 17:35

tomdaley and thinking actually it's 5, but I've also been keeping my head down so as not to be outed!

twinkle sounds like a pretty stressful experience, I'm glad all is ok though. They do say at this stage you can't always hear the HB but that doesn't make it less worrying!

flying I'm glad baby is ok in there. Hopefully the bleeding will stop soon. Apart from the stress you must be getting fed up of the mess! I know it would be driving me mad!

Sorry for those with job/money troubles, I can't help but it seems there's lots of good advice already on here.

I'm 19+2 today, and definitely feeling movements most days, but there's certainly no pattern. It feels such a long time to the scan (nearly 2 weeks), I suspect this middle bit is really going to drag.

VinegarDrinker · 07/02/2013 17:44

I think SlouchingPanda is medically inclined, too...

Given that the vast majority of O&G trainees are female now, many with kids, there's almost no chance of you lot knowing who I am Grin Tbh I wouldn't mind anyway. I am wondering if any of you are DNUKers though... (feel free to PM!)

flyingsprocket · 07/02/2013 17:57

persuasion Uhuh, the mess, cleaning sheets/scrubbing mattress, no sex, no waxing, no exercise. I didn't really get period whilst I was on contraception, didn't expect to have a month long one while PG- maybe it's payback Grin

Must have been a massive relief to see the lil one twinkle, sounds stressful x

TomDaleysTrunks · 07/02/2013 18:01

Blimey! Think females are taking over everything but surgery. Not aDNUK forum user. Prefer the anonymity of mumsnet. And doctor chat can get boring....!Smile

RememberingMyPFEs · 07/02/2013 18:09

Hi. Can I join this thread? I'm 15+2 due 30th July. I started on (and staying with) August thread as I thought DD was 4/08 to begin with but keep reading this one too. Am I allowed to be on both? Smile
20wk scan 13/03

orangebubbles · 07/02/2013 18:29

ooh twinkle that must have been horrible! Glad it turned out to be your little mischievous bean, hiding!

Can't believe we're already reaching 20 week scans! Fab news dinky and princess

Welcome newbies Smile

Tom I know I shouldn't have but I did chuckle at the med student bloods fiasco!! Don't want to out myself but suffice to say before becoming a SAHM I was involved in both ug and pg med. ed. and there a lot of things I would let a student do, but bloods? oooh no!!!

All Do you think we should have a separate stat's thread with the EDD and scan info on it? I noticed one of the other threads have done this and it saves scrolling for ever and we are pretty big bunch in here!!!

dinkystinky · 07/02/2013 18:47

Welcome remembering and Twinkle, sorry you had such a stressful day but glad baby is OK.

Amusing how many medics and teachers there are on this thread - on my thread with ds2 there were lots of lawyers.

Re separate thread with due dates and scans - am relaxed about it and happy to go with majority vote.I think the lists will fade away after the scans etc until near the due dates...

dinkystinky · 07/02/2013 18:50

Tom - am pondering a home birth too. Not entirely sure will go for it but ds2's birth was pretty fast so maybe a home birth might be easiest all round...

BB01 · 07/02/2013 19:28

Tom - yes we're planning a homebirth for many reasons. Although I do feel it's the best choice in most ways - don't like hospitals and busyness, really want dh to be around after, think you get more attention from mw, less interventions etc, I do still have some niggly 'what if' thoughts esp as it's my first.

Thinkingof4 · 07/02/2013 20:35

twinkle that sounds so stressful I'm glad things are ok

vinegar I'm on dnuk but haven't admitted to being pg again on there yet, might join waiting game thread after my scan. I quite like family forum but often just direct people here for better advice (esp breast feeding queries)

tom def stay away from dnuk if you are considering hb, there are some strong views (against) on there!

orange I don't mind re separate dates thread, tbh I probably wouldn't pay it too much attention till a lot nearer the summer when we are all getting really impatient Grin

Cutandstick · 07/02/2013 21:09

BB01 having the same dilemma re giving up work. Was thinking 35 weeks as its a half term, but the last three weeks have been awful, and I just don't think I can go that long. Lots of changes at work, which means extra work to implement them... And the changes bring extra work too Sad Don't know how much is tiredness, how much is hormones and how much is work stress - but I have cried at work quite a bit in the last few weeks. I'm thinking 32 weeks at the mo. but if I could leave tomorrow I would. Sorry to be so negative, at least it's Friday tomorrow.

BadMissM · 07/02/2013 21:19

OMG Twinkle that must have been stressful!

Dinky When I'm at work...I'm a teacher, so another one for the teaching camp!

Thinking of 4 I know, if I'd only had the NHS test I would have been really panicking by now!!

MightBeMad · 07/02/2013 21:33

I'm finishing at just over 31 weeks. I went to nearly 36 last time and it was dreadful (long commute, stressful job with long hours, pg complications) so this time I'm going to the opposite extreme Smile

Guavasforbreakfast · 07/02/2013 21:37

Cutandstick I really feel for you, it was like that for me in Autumn 2, felt like crying so much of the time as I was just too sick and exhausted to do anything beyond the bare minimum, and we kept getting more and more piled on us as the term went on. I'm only ok now because of my enforced 6 weeks off for slapped cheek. Leave as soon as you can and don't feel bad about it, pregnancy and teaching just don't seem to match in my experience so far!
On a positive note, you must have half term coming up soon Smile

dinkystinky · 07/02/2013 21:47

Thinking - I'm a daughter of 2 doctors here and fairly sure they would worry themselves silly if I told them I was thinking of a home birth... So I won't :-) I was at uni with lots of medics and virtually all of them have had c-secs or hospital births with epidural through choice.

lizincornwall · 07/02/2013 21:55

So many poosts to catch up on, love that we're a chatty bunch :)
Apologies if i miss anyone, but congrats on new jobs & interviews! Hugs Mini, the advice route sounds good to get what you deserve. I've used ACAS and they were great on advice (but as someone said, they don't intervene for you). Wish someone would fight our battles for us - we've got enough on our plate Confused.

Hi Lorrie - we're scan twins! Feels SO far away to me still! 15+5

Thanks to whoever posted the skin treatment advice - i also have skin like a teenager at the moment. Pregnancy glow? Pah! Grin

TomDaleysTrunks · 07/02/2013 21:57

Yes lots of medics have strong views a out homebirth. I mentioned it to DH tonight who is mulling it over. It helps that we are five min from the hospital. We've got a lot of close uni friends coming this weekend, will get their views too.

Not sure what I'd do with DD if I was at home. Not sure if I want her to hear me hollering!

iclaudius · 07/02/2013 22:06

bad miss M that is scary - i had nhs nuchal after private and the consultant said she didn't like throwing more numbers into the mix - but that the nhs would have given me a screen negative where privte gave me screen intermediate risk

Thank whatever deity and medical science for harmony eh!!

Rememberingmypfes - i am 29th and was initially thinking of august but plumped for here as am hoping and praying for elcs so should be july..

are there a few big families on here?

congrats on all scans

Thinkingof4 · 07/02/2013 22:06

Just think of the mess!! I'd just not fancy that at home, and realistically might end up with 3 young kids wondering why mummy is screaming, so it's a definite no for me!!
I've been lucky (and unusual amongst medic friends) in having 3 normal deliveries so intervention can be avoided! I think it basically comes down to the shape/size of your pelvis vs size/position of baby's head. I feel very lucky to jaw my mum's pelvis and that dh has a small head!!

VinegarDrinker · 07/02/2013 22:47

thinking I NEED to know who you are on DNUK now! I'm a semi regular FF poster. PM me?
