woop my best friend had a little girl today, they've called her Bethan. Lovely!! So thrilled for them, had to share Grin

twirliedobbit · 31/01/2013 19:28

I need some advice ladies. I have lower back pain and feel like pooh shivers, nausea etc. my lovely MIL has come to look after the kids till DH home and has sent me to bed but wondering if I should call emergency doc as I suspect it could be a kidney infection. I did have MW apt yesterday, do they check for infection when they test urine??? And if so, could it possibly come on so suddenly??
If it is can I just rest an see in the morning? Or should I get seen straight away to rule it out. I am rubbish with stuff like this, I hate wasting docs time. Advice appreciated Sad

TomDaleysTrunks · 31/01/2013 19:30

Yes we've got one of those lighter life rucksack carriers. They are awesome, couldn't be without it for DD. They have to be over 6 months really maybe more to fit it. But I highly recommend them.

MightBeMad · 31/01/2013 20:05

Oh poor you twirlie Sad . I don't know what to suggest. What makes you think it's a kidney infection as opposed to some random bug? Are you prod to them? Yes, assuming the mw dipped your urine yesterday, infection is ke if the things they're looking for but from experience the dip tests are not infallible. Maybe a call to NHS direct or you ooh service over the phone and see what they suggest? Hope you're feeling better soon!

MightBeMad · 31/01/2013 20:05

prone

MightBeMad · 31/01/2013 20:07

Gah! So many typos! But hopefully you get the gist...

TomDaleysTrunks · 31/01/2013 20:16

Some antenatal clinics just dip for protein iirc. Might be best ringing OOH GP. Poor you.

esme80 · 31/01/2013 20:27

Dont believe my MW checks for infecion, just protein. Agree with Tom and Mightbe, call either NHS direct or ooh gp. Dont have much to add, just wanted to say hope you feel better soon!

AmaDablam · 31/01/2013 20:32

Hi everyone. Welcome new people, our "little" group is growing at a rate of knots isn't it?!

Glad for all those that had good appointments today. Good luck with the move McKtastic

Twirlie - poor you! My advice would be to get yourself into the GP first thing in the morning (or call emergency MW/GP/NHS direct right away if the symptoms are really bad) as it does sound like it could possibly be a kidney infection. On the other hand it could just be pg related backache and another bug/virus causing the other symptoms, but either way you don't want to take any chances. When they dip your urine they test for protein and leucocytes which are indicators of an infection, but it has to be sent off to the lab to actually test for bacteria. Plus, speaking from experience these things can come on quite quick. I promise the GP or whoever you see/speak to won't have a go for time wasting as kidney infections in pg need treating ASAP. Really hope you feel better soon.

mysterymeg I've been experiencing the exact same symptoms as you the last few days. I think it's all quite normal, as long as pains are not severe.

Grin at the buggy stalker stories. I don't think that's quite me yet, I'm still a little bit head in the sand about buying stuff for the baby. However, I have almost gone up to other, more obviously pg women on a few occasions, to ask where they got their lovely maternity stuff from. When my MS was bad too, there were a couple of times when I wanted to ask heavily pregnant strangers "it does get better doesn't it? Please tell me it gets better!"

SlouchingPanda · 31/01/2013 20:52

Things I learned from my MW appointment today:

  1. My blood group is B neg.
  2. There's a reason I've been SO tired (booking Hb 9.6).
  3. The heartbeat is all good.
  4. It is possible for a 20 minute delay even when you are the first patient through the door at 0800 (and my MW definitely hadn't broken her foot).

Thanks for the nights chat, EggFlipped, TDTrunks and VinegarDrinker. Will see how I go... Eating, drinking and trying to sneak a nap will be the order of the day night. Sadly, like Vinegar my unit is busy, and any sleep at all is a massive rarity.

Photographer sounds sensible to have your scan booked even if you have to travel back for it... at least you know it will definitely happen.

Twirlie - wise advice already given up thread. I do hope you're feeling better
soon!

17+0 and definitely feeling little flutters Smile

princessllama · 31/01/2013 21:03

Twirlie hope you feel ok soon, one of my friends is always telling me off for worrying about time wasting with gp. I think the people who worry about it are never actually the ones who waste the time- iyswim.
Buggies- we had a phil and ted when ds was born- 15 months between them. It was fab and dd would eventually climb in or out of bottom section when needed to- v helpful. We sold it on ebay for good price.
I have been feeling all the funny aches too, especially when walk alot. Have finally bought a bigger bra and some lovely h and m clothes- heavenly! Feel attractive again!
I am now feeling lots of kicks and can occasionaly see them from outside.
19 weeks today

Thinkingof4 · 31/01/2013 21:40

tomdaley if you are considering a mountain buggy have you seen mb plus one? It's an inline double but you would hardly know the 2nd is there. I can't really explain it well but you should have a look! We have a mb duet which I only used for 6 months last time and I will only get another few months this time but it is a great buggy and really well made.

twirlie drink loads of water and see GP tomorrow, take a urine sample with you. Hope you are tucked up in bed by now!

We have had a long week as ds1 off school with viral thing, he's been really hot and lethargic, I think about half his class have it. He does seem a but better today so I'm hoping he'll be back at school tomorrow. We have missed all our normal baby/toddler stuff this week so the wee ones have been quite hard work! Still at least I'll get a rest at work tomorrow Grin

Welcome to all the new peeps joining by the way! Hope you all enjoy being here!

Ooh and good luck with the move mcktastic

lizincornwall · 31/01/2013 21:44

Thanks for the buggy tips girls! I think I've decided on the out n about, & have read that you can use a phil & teds cocoon on it for a newborn, yeay!

Good luck with the move McK.
Twirlie, hope you feel better soon. As others have said already, I don't think you'll be wasting the GP's time at all.
Lovely to hear good scan news and heartbeats at MW appointments. Is that standard,or do you have to ask for it? 20 week scans already! Jealous!!

Looking forward to getting some flutters soon Hmm

MarieKL · 31/01/2013 22:20

Hi everyone

Lizin I hope your dreams are buggy free tonight now you've made your choice. So glad I don't have to worry about buggy buying this time round.

Great to hear everyone has had good midwife appointments. My understanding is that not all Trusts offer the heartbeat check at the 16 week appointment, but if they don't it can't hurt to ask.

Twirlie I hope you feel better soon.

Lovely news re your friend TomDalyTrunks

Thinkingof4 I hope you get your rest tomorrow. I sometimes wonder if I the main reason I work is so I can get a hot cup of tea once in a while Smile

TotallyEggsFlipped Good luck with your interview. I have one at the end of February with my current employer for a different job, otherwise my current contract will expire at the end of March. Honestly not sure if I'd prefer the new role for a few months or a few months at home!

Hope all you have a good Friday.

princessllama · 31/01/2013 22:28

Just been looking at boots website and they have mountain buggy at half price for those who were going to buy it

orangebubbles · 31/01/2013 23:10

LizinC I have a friend buying a new car to allow for the purchase of the Donkey!!! Nuts!

Mightbe my dd will also be 22 months when baby arrives so have been thinking about current buggy for her and sling for baby? My original icandy cherry pram with a buggy board or getting a double!!! Do you think 22 months too young for buggy board? I'm worried my back won't allow me to carry baby in a sling for too long. Ugh! Decisions!

God you lot can talk!

mysterymeg · 31/01/2013 23:14

Thanks all for reassurance! Spoke to midwife earlier and she too was v reassuring. It sounds like muscles stretching apparently and as I was v ill with chest infection and bad cough last week she reckons I've pulled some stomach muscles coughing.

tomdaley Bethany is my sister's name -great choice!

paolocee · 31/01/2013 23:33

You beauty princessllama
Just bought a Mountain Buggy Duo, twin carrycot and storm cover for £500. A saving of 50%. Now just got to get it to Sweden!! Smile

MrsRoss26 · 01/02/2013 07:13

marks place again!
Still no real research into peaks, but now DH has finished his uni assignment (bless retraining?!) he's promised some proper reading /trying this weekend.

On phone, so not much use at remembering or checking names, but I had a kidney infection once, bl**dy painful. Could hardly move. Thank goodness. you don't have that!

very excited about possible movements now, think it's mostly gas so far though, how unpleasant! Grin

AmaDablam · 01/02/2013 07:30

Oooh princess, thanks for the tip on Mountain Buggy, that's the one my DH has his eye on. I may actually have to get my head out of the sand and take a look!

twirlie thinking of you this morning and hope you are OK. As MrsRoss says acute kidney infection is horrendous - I seriously hope that the only thing I ever have to go through that is more painful will be childbirth! So, I really hope it's not one of those and you are feeling better today.

Going into work a little later today and all this talk of exercise is making me feel bad as I've been a terrible lazy arse, so esme the BuddhaBellies DVD is going on!

dinkystinky · 01/02/2013 07:56

Twirlie - hope you are OK. Yiubhave had great advice up thread. Hope you feel better soon.

Princessllama - good find on the boots website!

Slouching - hope your energy returns when your iron levels rise - that sounds v low.

As all those working night shifts I do not envy you. I am a lawyer and occasionally have to work all night/20 hour days on a daily basis and its shattering when not pregnant. Am hoping not to have too many of those this pregnancy (had lots in pregnancy with ds1 and a couple when pregnant with ds2).

Tomdaley - congrats to your friend. Lovely news!

Going to see if I can go bra shopping at lunchtime as down to only 2 bras being comfortable.

dinkystinky · 01/02/2013 08:01

Re buggy and sling talk - ds1 was 2.10 when Ds2 was born. We got a buggy board and he had a scooter - he used the buggy more than DS2 for the first 4 months preferred the buggy board and his scooter. You know your child - if they are good walkers etc, then you may be fine with single buggy and sling. If they get tired quickly, go for the double (maybe check out second hand ones as I know a few people who did that and got absolute bargains if you will need a double for less than a year).

flyingsprocket · 01/02/2013 08:07

I too had to buy new bras yesterday dinky quite excited about the fact I actually have boobs!

I'm off to the EPAU again today. I actual thought the bleeding was stopping yesterday but last night it got really heavy. No pain still but I was up 3 times in the night to change pads.

Thankfully DP is here with me.

dinkystinky · 01/02/2013 08:17

Good luck Flying - hope the bleeding abates soon and all is OK with you and your baby. Keep us posted. ((Hugs))

AmaDablam · 01/02/2013 09:09

Thinking of you flying. Hope everything is OK.
