It's one of my prison projects Seven

I'm an arts worker & I work with lots of different 'marginalised' groups

The prisons are one of my faves though Smile

Cheers for the tea tip geordie, didn't know that about tea and iron! Am drinking decaf tea by the gallon so this may be an excuse to switch to hot chocolate Grin. Lying on the back does seem to do bad things to my head and heartbeat now so not doing that any more for the next few months. Btw what you do as an arts worker sounds really interesting!

V shaped pillow for sitting up in bed sounds like a good idea. Being propped up a bit definitely helps with the whole heartburn/indigestion thing. Anyone have any good suggestions for preggie pillows that double up as feeding pillows or are they not really necessary? A friend had a sort of semi circle pillow that she swore by and looked really comfortable for BF. so many choices!

Re: weight, lost some in 1st trimester, put on 4 kilos last time I looked but the bump has grown considerably since then! Not weighing myself at the mo but just being sensible with food etc. Don't want to weigh in that often or get too worried about it as long as I'm not going too nuts with meals.

berri · 14/01/2013 20:29

Hi everyone :)

Uneventful weekend! Eating far too much chocolate at the moment, I totally can't get enough! I might end up regretting it if I start piling the weight on!

At the moment I've put on 9lbs. Can't remember where I was this time with DS, but in total I think I put on 2st? But he was born early so I would have gone up more if I'd gone full term. This amount of chocolate will definitely not be helping but it's like a bloody addiction Grin. I have a big bowl of celery soup in the fridge but for some reason it's just not drawing me in in the same way!!

It's so funny you guys who are going from DC2 to DC3 - all everyone used to talk to me about was when we were going to have DC2....I suppose we've had a big ish age gap seeing as he'll be 4yr 5mo when this little girl arrives, and I've had nothing for the past 4 years apart from questions about when we were planning number 2! Bog off it's none of your business!!!!!!
Constantly - a lot from total strangers such as people in the supermarket queue and waitresses! Everyone saying how awful it is to have just one child! I used to get so angry! And it seems the same thing when you go from 2 to 3 - why on earth is it only 'normal' to have 2 children???? Not 1, or 3 - just 2!! This world is so strange sometimes.

anyway back to my creme egg

HenD19 · 14/01/2013 21:11

Not surprised you brought up weight gain sevenreasons! How have you managed to put so little weight on? I suppose if you've been really sick that would make sense. I sickeningly (ha) got down to my Weight Watchers target weight during the first trimester when feeling sick but now I've put it all back on and a couple of pounds too. It's not fair! I suppose I have been making up for not drinking much alcohol by eating loads, especially over Christmas.

Can't believe that everyone is getting such bad indigestion already. And getting so uncomfortable in bed. Dreading those stages happening to me. Mainly loving being pregnant but very tired and not much get up and go which is driving me mad. I'm normally like this at this time of year though.

aberjen · 14/01/2013 21:37

wirra I think I read that it's the caffeine in tea/coffee that inhibits iron absorption so would guess decaf okay? Not certain though.

scooby Great news! No idea how you've been doing night shifts. I'm finding the usual 9 to 5 bad enough.

Think I've put on about a stone so far Blush Was lucky in first trimester as not much nausea but spent a good few weeks ravenous - would get up at 3 am for a bowl of cereal and be starving again by 7ish

Changing the subject completely, have just made myself cry with laughter over absolutely nothing. The more DP looked at me like I was crazy the more I laughed. Decided to blame it on hormones - need to get mileage out of it while I can Grin

aberjen · 14/01/2013 21:51

Dammit, research then post - looks like caffeine isn't the culprit so decaf wouldn't make a difference Blush

Sparklyboots · 14/01/2013 22:03

Ha, I am too old for anyone to ask if pg was an accident - also on number 2 so it was more or less fully expected by everyone else. My dad did go white and say he thought me and DP were going to announce engagement rather than impregnation with DC1, though. But everyone was v. happy etc. so naturally I expected a hero's welcome on announcing number 2 - not so! I can't remember the last time anyone in my/ DP's family have asked about the pg and I was more or less hassled everyday for progress with first pg....

Not sure how much weight I've gained on account of being untrustworthy round food etc. I am still running most days but for pitiable amounts of time (like, 20 minutes max) so I'm not sure it counts. Starting to get odd looks as the bump reveals itself and I don't just look like I'm trying to get rid of a wobbly belly. I'm also less pissed off when someone smugly runs past me, but only marginally.

Re iron absorption - it's tannin that is the problem which unfortunately renders hot chocolate, decaff, red grape juice, blackcurrant and chocolate off limits if you think that is your problem - basically anything v dark. The good news is that vit C aids iron absorption so deck a high dose vit C (or even 2) with your iron tablet/ drink orange juice while eating your greens/ have a vit C before tackling your steak or whatevs and you should upgrade your intake. Vit C is not toxic and you will excrete any excess, a massive dose (like 5 grams/ 5 high dose tabs) with a drink of water will have a laxative effect which I only mention as I think most of us currently have a vested interest in such things. And you can still have tannin rich drinks or food, just try to keep them well away from when you have your iron/vit c combo. As a veggie/ sometimes vegan who runs (footstrike equals red blood cell damage equals higher iron needs) I've not had iron probs this pg or last. And I've drank tea and hot chocolate throughout...

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 14/01/2013 22:07

Gosh I've put on more weight than anyone: 20lbs. I'm quite depressed about it. It happened in my last two pregnancies too, my body's reaction to conception appears to be to panic and stockpile fat reserves. I'd lost some weight before I got pregnant and was a size 8 and feeling fab about it, that seems a long time ago. Oddly my bump is tiny, I'm much smaller than at this stage with DCs 1&2.

Geordie, your work sounds fascinating. What kind of projects do you do with the prisoners?

SevenReasonsToSmile · 14/01/2013 22:52

hen not much sickness, I just can't finish my meals, makes no sense to me. My BMI is 34 though so I have enough not to worry. I'm not obsessing over weight, just weighed myself the other day out of curiosity.

sparkly if it makes you feel better I doubt I can run for 2 minutes let alone 20! DH is a runner, he's in training for this years london marathon.

berri you're right about numbers of children, and why do people insist in giving their opinions? Me, DH and my two best friends are all from three-child families, it seems like a perfectly reasonable amount to me!

SeaSalt1 · 15/01/2013 00:59

Hmm... this weight gain thing is very interesting to me. I am 21 weeks now, so am due at the end of the month (EDD 28th May) but after an incredibly rough first trimester I'm still about half a stone down on where I started, despite having started to put a bit back on over the last few weeks (please don't hate me, though I think you're more likely to be concerned as I know you're a lovely lot). My BMI is healthy so that's good.

I would put the weight loss down to the extreme nausea I had up to week 16/17 or so, my total aversion (which continues) to strong smells (which there are tonnes of in Singapore), the heat and humidity (very extreme), my development of a craving for fruit (I can't eat enough apples and grapes), no alcohol, lack of access to my usual 'treats', and more exercise (I'm swimming three times a week and am doing yoga classes). Doctor seems unconcerned and baby is huge so he's growing well.

I'm definitely putting weight on now and am expecting to be back at my starting weight by the time I leave Singapore at about 28 and a bit weeks. I don't think it's a conventional weight pattern for a pregnant lady but I'm not overly concerned...

Is anyone else's weight lower than when they started?

FrustratedSycamoreIsNesting · 15/01/2013 07:50

Um, weight gain? I have no idea, I don't even look when the midwife does it.

I used to have a problem with food before pg with dc1, it wasnt a good place to be mentally. the issues will always be there, but are easier to manage during pregnancy, the pregnancys override them as it were. so I always put on weight when pg as its the only time I eat healthily and regularly

rachywhite83 · 15/01/2013 08:52

I'm off to the Midwife today. Had enough of feeling rubbish. DH checked blood pressure and that was all fine. Really hoping she can help me today.

I'm constantly crying too. Poor DH having to cope with a moaning hormonal woman like me all the time :(

All the variance in weight gain proves there is no norm so I am going to relax, I don't look like I've put on loads and the baby is on the smaller side so far, I just must have the weightyist placenta going.

I have a condition where I have too much Iron in my blood so my specialist is thrilled when I am pregnant as I don't require any treatment Grin good luck for scans & consultant appointments..I just had to cancel a 24 week til 28 when I realised that was just for first time Mums...pity I was so looking forward to hearing the little heart beat.

beaver33 · 15/01/2013 12:01

morning all, just checking in.

scooby that's great news about the fit note. Well done. Hopefully with that done, and - fingers crossed - your house woes sorting themselves out soon, you can start to feel a bit less stressed! Def thinking of you. Our house purchase is so far going ok but am braced for disaster....

not sure how much weight I've gained - I think about 4 kg. What's that? Just over half a stone? I'm quite little anyway and look pretty huge already because there's nowhere for this bumpette to go but out...!

Went to a lovely spa at the weekend and had a great pregnancy massage. Was trying to relax but the little blighter kept kicking me throughout! Made me giggle.

23+1

HenD19 · 15/01/2013 13:06

Actually thinking about my weight gain I think I've put most on my chest-it's massive already. No wonder my babies have struggled to breast feed!

rachywhite83 · 15/01/2013 13:27

Just come home from the midwife. She has sent my urine away because it showed signs of infection. She said that this could be the reason I am feeling so rotten. Heard babies heartbeat. Baby wasn't happy about that kicked the monitor out of the way ! She said she wasn't worried about the baby because it was moving around so much Grin She is going to phone me in the next couple of days with the results.

SevenReasonsToSmile · 15/01/2013 15:01

Glad they've found the possible infection rachy, UTIs can sometimes allegedly be responsible for premature labour. It was suspected I had one when I went into early labour with DD, though come to think of it I never did her the results, my labour only lasted 3 hours!

beaver your weekend away sounds fantastic.

I've been clearing out in the office/new nursery today. Cleared the desk and loaded it up with more rubbish to go to the tip with it. Does anyone else have much sorting out to do before LO arrives?

DH is clearing the garage out tomorrow ready for the builders to get in there and start on the converting it to the new kitchen.

MaybeAMayBaby · 15/01/2013 18:28

Yes seven I have loads to do.
New kitchen.
New boiler!
New floor (I want this but may not happen)
DD1 needs to be moves from no room into proper room which is currently my DHs 'mess' office. I can't even see carpet in there. It'll take a while.

I can't wait actually. Last time we were plastering the nursery when I was 36 weeks! I don't want that again.

I've put on roughly a stone (I think about12-13 pounds). My weight like last time has stabilised the past two months. I seem to gain most of that stone in the first trimester then stop for the second! I hate to admit that I think I'm pretty close to the weight I was when I gave birth to DD. I was on track and losing quite a bit after last time, then at 6 months post partum, my DH had a stroke. It was a pretty awful time. I had literally just gone back to work too. I never lost another pound. In fact I probably gained 10lbs back. He is ok now btw. He has some vision missing but leads a normal life!

I've forgotten everyone's news Blush. Who was it with the possible UTi? It's common not to have symptoms while pregnant so sounds promising.
scooby hope your house sale goes through soon. Have you a date for exchange yet?

Ellypoo · 15/01/2013 19:32

Woohoo reached 24 week milestone, very relieved. I have set next one for 28 weeks. Can start packing my hospital bag now.

Have been getting some sharp stabbing pains down the bottom left side of my bump, sort of near my hip sort of area. Am seeing MW thurs am so will ask then but she'll prob just say its normal.

How is everyone doing? I'm shattered and have got a really long day tomorrow, which I'm really not looking forward to.

Oh 10 what a lot to get your head around. Focus on the positives though, the baby is blissfully unaware doing its growing business and each day is progress. Get lots of rest!

scooby26 · 15/01/2013 20:23

10- really sorry to hear that 10, at least you are being monitored and signed off sick. Put your feet up and try to relax( can't imagine how) the steroids are just a sensible backup and every day/ week is a good step forward.

Still struggling with house- we are ready- do are they supposedly yet apparently they want to see the house again before they exchange.... Sunday was suggested with a possible exchange of Monday and move out next Friday..... Eh no! I can't possibly pack and arrange moving in 3 days and I wont pack until we exchange as history has shown them to be a little unreliable and threatend to pull put twice in last week. I've said yes no proba move next Friday but only if we exchange by this Friday. I don't think that's unreasonable to require a week to pack ip a four bed house... See what tomorrow brings but I'm vvvv stressed!

Ellypoo · 15/01/2013 20:32

Oh gosh, how scary 10, I hope that they are keeping a very close eye on you & baby. Great news that he is bang on size for his dates though. Can you get people to bring you plenty of books/DVDs etc to keep you entertained?

Crikey scooby they are really giving you the run around aren't they - I really hope that you get everything sorted, and exchange by Friday - it's totally fair enough!!

berri · 15/01/2013 20:55

10 oh how worrying for you Sad
I'm glad you've been signed off & can concentrate on really putting your feet up. I had the steroids with DS, they are a real godsend for prem babies so hang on in there.

Just on way out so haven't read the other recent posts, hope everyone's ok & will be back later.
