So anyone playing the guessing game on sex? Sex or the baby I mean that came out wrong lol

My DH says its a girl, no question. I know it's months away but I have a pocket dobbler and only get a heartbeat on the left side, apparently according to my DH left side means girl.

I have seen some weird things on birthclub groups on Facebook from wearing on baking soda to the shape of the baby's forehead on the scan. Oh and the nub test but I'm just not seeing it.

AmaDablam · 07/01/2013 19:12

special I had the flu jab more or less as soon as I found out I was expecting. This was after reading all the posters in the GP surgery about how pg women should have it and doing a bit of research, which seemed overwhelmingly to suggest that the vaccine is totally safe, whilst actually having the proper flu is anything but.

TwoOfThree · 07/01/2013 19:19

Hi There Ladies can I join in too? Been lurking for a while bit feeling brave enough to join now I have had my first scan! Had it on Saturday and I'm a bit further along than we thought, due on the 10th.

Lovely meet you all, Netmums has been a great source of information so far!

Mizar · 07/01/2013 19:27

Special - I had my flu jab back in November and think it was the right thing to do.

I am never really sick, and very rarely have to take time off work, yet this weekend have come down with the most amazingly horrendous cold that has me out flat. Combined with MS which was just retching but is now occasionally escalating to actually being sick (again which I never do), it's no fun.

Given I'm like this with a cold, I absolutely dread to think what it would be like with actual flu. I think our bodies are all immuno supressed so we don't reject the baby, and as a result we are more likely to get colds etc and for them to be worse when we get them.

Of course I will be eating my words if it continues much longer and becomes actual flu - but I'm pretty sure it's more a bad case of man flu! I have also given it to DH who is much more susceptible to these things anyway, so he is absolutely ecstatic as you can imagine.

13 exactly!

flyingsprocket · 07/01/2013 19:38

I'd like to get the flu jab. I rarely get ill & before Christmas I got a chest infection/cough/cold. Coupled with the tiredness from being PG I was completely wiped out. I want to avoid that happening again. Do you just go to your GP & ask for it?

Great news on the scans ladies! Only 4 more sleeps til ours!

ArkadyRose · 07/01/2013 19:43

I shan't be having the flu jab. I think each of us has to weigh up the pros & cons for ourselves and make our own decisions though.

MightBeMad · 07/01/2013 20:01

Flying, yes, you can call your go or midwife to find out where it's available. The hospital I had my scan in today was running a drop in clinic next to the ultrasound dept for women to pop in and get the jab after their scans. Maybe yours is doing something similar?

Arkady, yes, I totally agree, these things are very much an individual decision. I'm sorry if in my reassurance of special I seemed to suggest otherwise or to be at all critical of anyone who decides differently to me; that totally wasn't my intention.

Cutandstick · 07/01/2013 20:09

Hi princess, we're due date twins! I'm also 27th! Exciting times!!

Supershiv1 · 07/01/2013 21:05

Ooooh oooo getting a bit nervous about scan tomorrow.
Reassured after epu one last week but am still leaking orangey/pink/brownish when I wipe. At least I will be in the right place to ask questions.
Had the flu jab on the 20th. Seems ok but arm was really sore for a few days!
In other news I bought a 36DD bra in the sales and it fits. How could I have been so wrong for so long????

Runswithsquirrels · 07/01/2013 21:10

First day back at school was exhausting - and there were no children! I hope they are kind to me tomorrow!

MightBeMad · 07/01/2013 21:37

Good luck for tomorrow shiv and any anyone else scanning tomorrow x

MarieKL · 07/01/2013 22:08

Just catching up on the thread after a few days visiting my parents and friends. Welcome to everyone who's joined the thread. It's lovely to hear about all the scans. I hope they go well.

I'm impressed some are feeling flutters already. I didn't feel anything until 24 wks with DS and then it just made the MS worse!

Good luck to all those telling work as well. I haven't said anything yet as I'm on a fixed term contract which will end before my due date but probably need to say something soon as it now looks like it may be extended!

Still debating whether to have the flu jab. I did with DS but I communted into London then and it was at the height of the bird flu scare. Now I just can't seem to find a time when it wouldn't matter too much if I felt rotten a few days later.

Guavasforbreakfast · 07/01/2013 22:24

Ditto runswithsquirrels, although the kids were in today. Shame maternity leave can't start now, feel like death after one day!

Guavasforbreakfast · 07/01/2013 22:27

Oh and as people have been asking, I had the flu jab before I even knew I was pregnant, maybe 4 weeks, as I have athsma. Didn't get any side effects other than a sore arm from the injection.

AmaDablam · 08/01/2013 06:38

Good luck with your scan today supershiv and anyone else having them. Mine was meant to have been this morning but had to change it to tomorrow due to stupid work Sad. Still, not long to wait now Grin.

Have a good Tuesday everyone, and good luck to all the teachers who have their first day back at school with kids today! I'm not a teacher but also set to have a really busy/stressful one today and dreading to think how I'm going to get through Confused

12+2

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 08/01/2013 07:14

First day back to work for me as a childminder, am dreading it as feel shattered already without school run!

Good luck to all having scans, I had the flu jab in nov and usually it makes me feel bad for a few days but it was fine this year, I had flu when pregnant with ds2 and he stopped growing after, maybe coincidence but I wasn't going to risk it.

photographerlady · 08/01/2013 09:44

I am so sore today :(

I was so tired and uncomfortable in my clothes yesterday, jeans on my hip bone and just so bloated. Then was in cramping pain last night and today so tender and sore and pain around my tummy and lower sides. I have no idea how much pain is too much pain :/

Scan tomorrow, maybe that worrying is making me worse.

MightBeMad · 08/01/2013 10:10

Photo I am sore yest and today too. In my case I think maybe it was the jeans pressing uncomfortably and also subconsciously as a result me holding my tummy in. Do you have any really loose comfy trousers you could put on and see if that helps?

specialknickers · 08/01/2013 11:14

MarieKL - are you sure you'll react badly to the jab? It's 24 hrs since mine and no side affects yet apart from a sore arm.

emblosion · 08/01/2013 11:26

Hi all, hope everyone ok? I am suck at the mo - typical when I have exams this week. Bah.

Agree flu jab v personal decision. I had mine back in November. No side effects at all other than sore arm. Had it with ds in first trimester also & all was fine. Will be getting the whooping cough too when I get to 28 weeks .

photographerlady · 08/01/2013 12:50

might you know I do think its my jeans too. Today it's my lower hip bone sides that hurt and my tummy like I pulled a muscle. Hoping 1 day of bad jean wearing isn't hurting the little bean. So tender but big baggy trousers today, learned my lesson

dinkystinky · 08/01/2013 13:31

Good luck for your scan today Supershiv and all those others having scans.

Photographerlady - I think you are doing the right thing wearing dresses/stretchy trousers for a few days as it does sound like your jeans are hurting you (not the bean, who will be fine).

ArkadyRose · 08/01/2013 14:40

emblosion Despite having a very real phobia of needles (seriously, it's a real fight-or-flight response - nearly broke a doctor's arm once when she sprung a needle on me unexpectedly, have also jumped out of a 1st floor window in sheer blind panic, have to be put under general anaesthetic with gas for any dental work - weirdly I can psych myself up for blood tests, but anything going in? No dice) I will be getting the whooping cough one in 3rd trimester as I nearly died of whooping cough as a baby because I was too young to be vaccinated. But I've weighed up the cons & pros on the flu vaccine and for me it's just not worth it. I do think every pregnant woman should have the whooping cough vaccine in third trimester though.

BB01 · 08/01/2013 15:32

Good luck to all those getting scanned soon!

I had the flu when I was literally just 4 weeks PG and it knocked me for six. It was horrific. I was really ill for 2 weeks and took another week or so before I felt myself again, by which time the MS started :-/

I am on my fourth (!) attempt tomorrow to get the flu jab.
1st attempt - arrived at drop in session which had been told to go to as it was only chance to get it. Told can't have it as not yet 12 weeks' PG. Nurse said she'd book me in to have it separately as a special favour as they have nearly run out
2nd attempt - had bleeding on xmas eve. Had to have emerg scan (same time as jab - had to cancel!)
3rd attempt - GP receptionist had seemed doubtful as to whether there'd be any vaccine left but had booked me in anyway. Rung beforehand to check - they had run out!
4th attempt - watch this space!

Really want to have it as I pick up every virus going and it really was awful in early PG and can be really dangerous normally let alone if PG. Also risks for baby. No known negative side effects so for me the risk's worth it. Am also not too bothered re needles.

Bit ironic though as midwife and all all the info I was given by midwife etc urged me to get the flu jab and then there's not much available. If I'd got pregnant later than I did I'd probably have no chance of having it on NHS. Sounds like it is a supplier issue to be fair, but quite frustrating anyway.

BB01 · 08/01/2013 15:35

Anybody know what their local process is for booking second scan? For the first the MW booked it but for second I wonder if she mentioned it was my responsibility. Unfortunately it's quite hard to get in touch with the midwife to ask her! Any idea what people normally do? It probably varies from place to place so maybe a silly question
