Hello - bit early, but I definitely had two positives this morning, wanted to check on drinking vodka this evening or not. I make due date 4th Sep 2013.
I had to terminate a pregnancy in late Sep at 13ish weeks because of incompatible with life diagnosis, so hope that doesn't happen again (I have a 25% chance but hopefully I'll fall in the 75% this time).

For Watford alternatives at my Dr's appt I was offered Luton or Stoke Mandeville. As far as I know Mount Vernon does not have a maternity unit.

Hope ur Mum gets her head around it ASAP...she will have too! She will be overjoyed once baby is here anyway and all willl be forgotten. 22 is NOT young and she cannot relive her past mistakes through you. I am sure she will be fine eventually xx

I'm another one for Watford General - delivery suite was abit badly run I thought (eg went in to be induced at 12.30 - they called me in for then - and then they didnt do it to 4.30pm so just sat in the corridor all that time) - but actual midwife was great and the team that delivered my son by emcs were fantastic - then went down hill again on the ward - really hot, thought I was going to melt, short staffed, noisy, unclear what was going on - but at least I'll be prepared this time!

also been told that Watford has changed its policy and will now say sex of the child at 20 wks scan.

We didnt find out with my first but are going to for my second.

friend went to stoke mandeville and was very happy - but I am literally 10 mins from Watford Gen so doesnt make sense to me to go anywhere else

Well if Stoke Mandeville is an alternative, surely you could go to Aylesbury or Wexham Park too? Although not sure what the maternity wards there are like (Aylesbury is supposed to be good though).

I agree SpanishLady.....the midwives seems fantastic themselves its just everything else thats the problem especially the running of the delivery suite and lack of care and mayhem on the ward.
But your a pro now and know what to expect! So you can breeze through it.

@LotsaTuddles - Sorry! I didnt mean your not young of course you are....but I meant not young in terms of making a decision to have a baby. Sorry that came across wrong! Your 10 years younger than me :-)

Hmmmm, Watford alternatives... had my first at Northwick Park (MLU) and I would happily go back there, it was fantastic. (25 minutes drive says google maps right now in the middle of school run time.)

I want to stay at home this time. DH is either dubious or thinks it's far too early to think about. If we did have to transfer from home if things weren't going well, it would probably be to the nearest, which is Watford General (10 minutes just now says google).

Thanks for the yoga info kitten - my googling seemed to say that inversions, deep twists and deep backbends are all off the table but that's ok because i have a recovering shoulder injury which means that a few of those are off the table anyway... i guess i'll keep going to vinyasa flow for a while (at least until any bump appears) but avoid the ashtanga classes i was considering.

I'm also going to keep up my running as in the discipline of getting out there four times a week but no pressure once i'm out, jogging gently or even walking if i feel like it (will take a jacket so i can walk without getting cold).

The tricky one is mountain biking... I need to avoid the tough and fast stuff that involves falling off.. but i reckon i can volunteer to lead the beginners rides for a bit and blame the shoulder injury.

I know loubee, I was joking, it just pisses me of that when DP asked her if he could marry me she said and now we're engaged, we're old enough to get married but not have a baby?

I know a couple of consultants in the ED at Northwick Park, and they say it's a good Maternity Ward (we were just having this conversation in general at the end of a meeting or something)

Gosh, just been looking at all the different birthing options. I know its a bit early yet, but Similar to one or two other ladies on here, I am literally terrified by the prospect of birth. So a little early reading seems sensible. Has anyone else ever used a birthing pool? Or know of anyone who has?

Right, reporting for duty!

Went into the scanning room and the scanning lady (technical term that) asked if it was for a dating scan. Told her that that's what I reckoned it must be as everything else was fine but I was a bit iffy with dates.

DP had chosen two minutes earlier to go and top up the car park ticket so missed me going in but she was so lovely and asked if I wanted to wait for him!

When he eventually got back, I sat on the table with my knickers and tights off and covered my bits with the paper towel sheet. She then turned the lights off (which was brilliant for helping me feel at ease) and used the dildocam on me. Wasn't at all uncomfortable or awkward, and no thicker than a willy so didn't feel alarmed when she brought it out!

And then...we saw the baby It's little heart beating away, waving it's tiny arms around. Was so amazing that I forgot to feel relieved IYSWIM, it's only now that I'm aware of it.

She made out that I was 8+3 (not 8+2 that the GP and I decided on) so feel a bit that I had a scan to basically confirm what was already on my records, but it really was a wild (if lucky) guess!

I asked if having an 8 week scan would stop me having a 12 week scan, as I've read on here that it's happened to some people, but she said that everyone was offered a 12 and 20 week scan at the hospital so I was pleased with that.

So basically, !

Busy here! I had water birth with DD and it was ace. Would definitely plan for that again. The way the pain reduced when I got in was brilliant.

And :) for wee wee wee! Got mine booked for a week Saturday, and midwife appointment has come through the week after, 8 and a bit.
