Another night of not sleeping.
9 days overdue now and off to the hospital at 10 to be checked over and start talking inductions. I know it's best for both junior and me but can't help feeling a bit like I've failed somehow Xmas Sad
I'm realising just how much I'd been picturing an active water birth, then a quick return home. It's the potential of a long hospital stay that's bothering me most, don't want to be away from DP. Which just goes to show how crazy these hormones are considering I'm usually very independent - travelling solo all over the world etc.
Feeling very sorry for myself

Cookiesandcoffee · 12/12/2012 07:52

Nope sorry it wasn't meant to be for me. So upset when they were a minute long every5 mins and had been going for hours. Me and my body are having serious words. So due date arrives.

hormonal I hope there is a different story for you. gils you haven't failed at all! Some of these babbas are just stubborn and awkward (and don't like the cold!)

Hormonalhell · 12/12/2012 08:15

Nope cookies I'm still here after going up to bed going to sleep and not a single twinge now!!Angry fanjo a bit stabby but that's it. Soooo frustrating tho!!!

Cannot imagine how fed up you are Gils not to mention how uncomfortable.

Hormonalhell · 12/12/2012 08:17

Jojo yes I'm achy but have been all my pregnancy - I put that down to fact i'm 40 Grin

FriendofDorothy · 12/12/2012 08:51

Doesn't feel much like I am going to go into labour today, which is a shame as I think it would be a cool birthday.

My hips aren't hurting as much this morning though and I am wondering whether that is because he has dropped a bit. Did anyone else have this?

ellliebelle · 12/12/2012 09:21

Ivr had several texts this morning telling me i need to have baby today for 12.12.12 birthday i feel like screaming that if it were that easy baby would already be here by now......

Stacks · 12/12/2012 09:32

Gils there's no reason you can't have an active water birth, even with an induction. Talk to your midwife about it and see what she says. I know if your booked for a home birth they just send you home here after the pessary. One of our nct ladies had that, then had her water birth at home as planned.

I'm hoping for baby today, but no signs at all. Had an awful backache since yesterday, but I also did a big food shop and some very heavy bags. Still, sitting on my ball this morning hoping to bounce him out!

Good luck to all today. I get my first sweep tomorrow, but am obviously hoping not to get there.

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 12/12/2012 09:34

Hi all, just got my date for induction - it's this Saturday! My face was like this Xmas Shock Off out for brunch with a friend now, will catch up later. Hope we do get a 12.12.12 baby on here, that's a cool birthday!

itsMYNutella · 12/12/2012 09:55

Fingers crossed for today to be the mass eviction for those due and waiting. I said to DP over breakfast that it would be a cool birthday. Although the bean has another 15ish days and can't imagine it'll rush out early :)

2blessed · 12/12/2012 10:32

Morning ladies,

I'm sure I've missed some births so congratulations - sorry!
All quiet here, bit of pain above my left hip but thats it sadly. Do hope we get some babies born today, would be really cool and unique.

No delivery dramas yet this week, but the week is still young with 3 expected deliveries between now and next tuesday. Still loving my new bed!

cherrypiew3 · 12/12/2012 10:36

Gils I also feel like a complete failure this is dc4 and I have never had any on time all born at 42 weeks. I really thought this time my body would know what to do. I broke down this morning to dh sobbing like a baby I am a mess today. Hope it goes well at the hospital and you still get to have a water birth.

Don't think I will be having a 12.12.12 baby feeling no pains just very miserable looks like my 3rd sweep failed. I have decided that I will be refusing any more I stupidly get my hopes up that it will work and get very upset when it does not.

Equimum · 12/12/2012 11:50

FoD I've noticed that my hip pain has virtually disappeared over the past couple of days as well. Can't help as to why this might be, but I'm liking the thought that it might result from baby having dropped a bit further.

Keep wondering whether things are a 'sign'. Have been feeling sticky for a couple of days and keep getting Braxton Hicks, period-type pains and lower back aches, but nothing happens. I know I still have 12 days until EDD but feeling so uncomfortable and constantly thinking, 'is this it?' is really doing my head in. I really feel feel for you guys who are already over due (sorry for wringing)!

If baby hasn't come by Friday it's taking part in it's first university assessment (it's very advanced, lol!). No, my midwife has asked if 'bump' can be used in an assessment for a couple of first year students who need to identify parts of the baby and judge the degree of engagement. My friend is really worried about this and has suggested I might be endangering the baby, but surely they'll have some idea what they're doing and they're going to be under supervision. I'm not being too blasé, am I? One of the students has already felt the bump at clinic, and if anything, she's gentler than the experienced midwives.

pmgkt · 12/12/2012 12:47

Can't see why a few more prods us going to hurt. And if it is painful you just ask them to stop.

Equimum · 12/12/2012 13:17

Thank Pmgkt, that's what I thought!

itsMYNutella · 12/12/2012 13:22

equimum I agree with with pmgkt. If it was me I'd say yes.
Plus I'm sure, like your previous experience they will mostly be more gentle than the regular MW. They do a finger prick here for a bit of blood to test for iron (don't know if you get the same in the UK) and one nurse at the Dr is very sadistic firm with the needle and I still have the mark from Monday to prove it!

MyDaydream · 12/12/2012 13:45

equimum If there were any risks they'd have made fake bellies and fake babies for students to practice on rather than asking patients. Most of my appointments have been run by students anyway with the qualified midwife just writing down what's been said.

QueenoftheHolly · 12/12/2012 14:01

Impending birth alert (FX!!!)
After a few days of much quieter movement (compared to usual rugby player I've been harbouring!) & being 41+ 1, spoke to the hospital first thing & they said to come in.
Had a scan, baby seems ok although abit sleepy, and an examination when they realised cervix very hard & long meaning (tmi sorry) I'm unlikely to go into labour within the 12 day cutoff so decided to go straight to induction today.

I say 'straight' but that decision was 5 hours ago & still waiting for 1st pessary Hmm

At first I was all excited about the date of birth but due to them being abit slow it's looking more like 13th now! Typical Grin.

Worst thing is someone has had a tuna sandwich & whole place is STINKY! Yuk. Clearly this will not be the worst thing eventually Grin

alison I really feel for you without your LO. I can hear the newborns wailing here & it makes it seem very very real. I hope you get Thomas very soon.

gilsbubbles · 12/12/2012 14:10

Sweep done and all very positive, induction booked in for friday afternoon as a back up plan. fingers crossed it won't be needed.

BuntysFestiveCollocks · 12/12/2012 14:20

Good luck, queen and gils!

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 12/12/2012 14:36

Aw Alison, I just can't imagine how you feel. Glad to hear Thomas is doing better and good luck for Thursday. I really hope that you get to bring him home soon.

Good luck Queen hope they get a move on and your baby gets the cool birthday! I thought mine was a shocker only being in 3 days, my eyes would have popped out of my head if they'd said today!

Ooh good news Gil fingers crossed for you too, maybe time to beat the induction yet.

Equimum I think that the students will probably be more conscientious than the trained midwives. I really can't see how on earth they'd endanger your baby by having a little feel of your bump? Also it sounds quite cool Xmas Grin

Wah babies everywhere, it's so exciting!

Hormonalhell · 12/12/2012 15:00

Ooooooh exciting Queen good luck hope all goes well Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 12/12/2012 15:03

Good luck queen!

MyDaydream · 12/12/2012 16:12

Good luck Queen. Hope your sweep gets something started Gils.
Were going out with friends for dinner at the weekend in another town so I suggested we get a hotel for the night so we don't have to worry about getting the last bus, we can have a nice breakfast in the morning and make our final night out before baby a little bit special. DPs response has been "well getting a taxi back would be cheaper". Romance is dead Xmas Sad.

Cookiesandcoffee · 12/12/2012 16:16

Oh good luck gils did they gave you a score?
Less than 8 hours to see if anyone gets it!
Sweep was ok, said I'm now easily 3cm soft and stretchy, even contracted while she examined. Cervix completely effaced so just waiting for these contractions to sort themselves out. Grr.
Anymore updates hormonal ?
Good luck Queen really hope it's quick and you're holding LO very soon

Hormonalhell · 12/12/2012 16:48

Nope cookies I'm not having mine today by the looks of it, I got a couple of weeks to wait before a sweep too Sad think mine must be Braxton hicks. Glad the sweep went well, all sounds good tho fx it's within next few days!
