Blimey I wish this snow would disappear. I hate trying to get myself and DD about without falling over.

It doesn't help that last time I was pregnant I fell in the snow, my MW told me to go for a scan and I bumped my car into a wall on the way to the hospital!

Hoping everyone is fine and stays safe in this weather. Thinking of those of you feeling ill and especially you, mama.

Teapig · 06/12/2012 08:08

Is anyone else yet to feel movement? This is my first and I am 21+1 today. I have an anterior placenta so perhaps that makes a difference? Any advice welcome.

I am all for buying second hand especially as babies grow so quickly.

Lovely to hear all the great scan news.

mama hope your scan went well too.

growyourown77 · 06/12/2012 08:44

Welcome noodles! And how are you doing mama? You must be so close to 24 weeks now, you and your boy are doing amazing!

It's been great hearing about everyone's scans. We had ours on Monday and it was amazing! We are having a girl!!! DH and I are delighted and went straight onto eBay and bought a funky dress. The baby was moving about like crazy so the sonographer had to chase her around to get measurements, but all looking 'normal'. It's such a relief.

Now the bladder situation has righted itself too we can crack on with nursery planning and enjoying Xmas. Now there's snow I'm really in the mood! We'll it the decorations up tonight and ill bombard DH with The Fairytale of New York and All I want for Xmas is you on repeat!

What's your fave Christmas tune?

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 06/12/2012 09:14

Teapig it may well be because you have an anterior placenta. When I first felt movement, it just felt like tickling! It's most noticeable after a really cold drink and when it's really quiet - try having a cold drink and lying in bed quietly and see what you notice.

Ah congratulations grow! Glad the bladder thing has cleared up and you can just enjoy the latter half of your pregnancy. My favourites are: traditional - Oh Holy Night (preferably the Michael Ball version but don't tell anyone!) and Non-traditional - All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah!

I am still suffering with this bad stomach. It's not much fun! I'm hoping it'll settle over the weekend!

angeltattoo · 06/12/2012 09:43

Hi everyone,

Still not much movement here, I am desperate for it to start regularly (especially after a scare on Sunday, where I had to be monitored on the ante natal ward, but all ok so panic over) .

Re: buying stuff, mum and dad have kindly bought me an icandy cherry, we have to buy a car seat. So that's sorted.

Last week I ordered some basic vests and body suits in various sizes for my hospital bag, and today a colleague of my husband's has just passed on a massive bag of gorgeous bits, which are currently in the tumble drier. We also have another friend with a 5 month old little girl, she is lending us a moses baske, and will also pass on lots of clothes. So I am loving and am very grateful for the passed on bits!

That said, i have been told my mum has bought a ridiculous amount of stuff ( by someone else - she lies to me when i ask what she's bought!) so I have asked for a complete list by Christmas, and then I will know what I need to buy after Christmas.

We don't have any storgae room at the moment, as we are in a one-bed flat, it is on the market and hopefully it'll sell before baby comes, if not we will have to manage, but space will be tight! I have ordered one of these bags for now to put some clothes etc in.

I will have to buy a couple of those cards, I think!

birdbrain17 · 06/12/2012 10:04

Hope everybody is wrapping up warm and taking care on snow/ice. Any recommendations of where to buy boots with good grip for a reasonable price would be appreciated!
I totally agree about 2nd hand stuff I mean kids only get more expensive as they get older so save where you can Smile we're borrowing a moses basket for a few months and just picked a cot up last night from a friend of a friend who can't have more kids and were desperate to get rid of it so they gave it to us for free Grin so that's £100 saved!!! and my in-laws have given us a budget that they will spend on a travel system/pram depending on what we find within their budget Grin Grin It's starting to get so real and exciting! I'm hoping to do a major tidy up of our flat during the winter hols to make space for all the baby stuff so I warned DH last night if he didn't want me to get rid of it he has to tidy up all his junk in the spare room...he was not happy at the thought of losing his "office" so we're going to set up a corner of the living room for his desk etc. as compensation.

mama please update us when you can...thinking of you!

hope anyone who was feeling ill is better now...only a few weeks till the bank holidays and then we can all go to bed Xmas Wink

Feeling sorry for myself. Bad, bad cold. The toothache is back as well. I went to the dentist last week and they declared my teeth to be 'absolutely fine' and of course the pain had gone by then. But last night it came back. Going to see GP later today.

Really feeling like this should be a good time. My birthday coming up, then Christmas, and I really want to enjoy being pregnant for a bit.

EmpressMatilda · 06/12/2012 10:24

Sorry that was such a moany post.

I just feel ill and like I've dropped into a time warp where I'm 22 weeks pregnant for ever! This week has lasted an eternity.
Hurry up Christmas!

jj247 · 06/12/2012 11:05

Thanks so much for words of support re. secondhand stuff, i feel much better now (off to work on the pram after work Xmas Grin)

teapig I've not really felt much movement either, Monday after the scan bean was super wriggly but before then and since nothing. i worry too, but keep telling myself to be patient and hopefully it will be a nice Christmas present Xmas Wink

empress don't worry about whining, that is what we're here for! toothache is awful too, gets right inside your head and you can't escape it, it could be linked to you sinuses too so def worth trying your doctor to see if they can help, hope you're feeling better soon.

trishstar thanks for snow chain tip, off to look for some, super paraoid about falling over after a pg girl at work slipped last week, fortunately bump was okay but she is now having to manage with a 7 month bump, a 2yr old and crutches due to a broken leg!

Lovely news from grow queen & nutty

Takes us to:

23 boys
19 Girls
14 Surprises

EmpressMatilda · 06/12/2012 15:08

Thanks jj Xmas Smile Do you work in the medical profession?! Just wondered as I saw the GP earlier and apparently I have a "bad case of sinusitis" (as opposed to a 'good' one?) which explains the toothache! So you were right. I've been prescribed bed rest and paracetamol (which was what I was doing anyway) with a prescription for antibiotics on standby though I am going to try to do without.

I am back in bed with the electric blanket on and I just opened our first Christmas cards (both addressed to us and 'bump' Xmas Grin ) so am feeling happier about things.

trish Good tip about the snow chains. Given the amount of walking and railway station steps involved in my daily life I have been getting paranoid about slipping. I do have a good pair of snow boots though, which I bought for a holiday in Norway a few years ago, so am going to try them first and move to the spikes option if necessary.

Glad people's scans are going well.

Urgh lost my original post!

Congratulations nutty, queen and tattooed on your little boys. They are fab! And congrats to you too growourown on your little girl, there is so much gorgeous girl stuff in the shops at the moment.

teapig it's only this last week that I've felt proper movement and even then it's a few cursory kicks between 8-9pm and maybe the odd one in the day. I'm working on the theory that this baby is going to be calmer than my DS who was much more active in utero! Anterior placentas can really act as a buffer. I know of one woman who didn't feel a thing until 34 weeks pregnant.

empress hope your toothache and cold go quickly. No fun. Hopefully out of the way for Christmas. When is your bday? I've got quite sore gums which dentist said is pregnancy gingitivus. I sympathise!

havealittlefaith cool link. Am getting one for my mum, she will love it.

birdbrain fab link. Really interesting. Quite reassuring to look at the figures. Nearly there......

mama hope your scan went well. Thinking of you.

Hello to everyone else!

Ordered OH a cookie monster onesie from play.com (he a big wuss & always cold so I thought he might appreciate a onesie!) I thought it would be cute to get a matching sleepsuit for baby, but the only ones I can find are really expensive from American costume sites, so if anyone happens to see a shop that stocks anything that might do whilst baby shopping can you let me know!

The play.com onesie is here: onesie

jj247 · 06/12/2012 17:16

empress, no, not in medical profession (I'm an Engineer!) but my DP suffered really badly with sinusitis and I got to hear all about it Xmas Grin, he isn't one to complain normally so I know it must feel bad. Hope it clears for you soon

photochick · 06/12/2012 17:20

Its reassuring to read others are also not experiancing much movement - people keep on asking but I have only felt the odd thing and am feeling a bit cheated! We have used a borrowed doppler out a couple of times this week just to put my mind at rest. Going to ask about the position of my placenta at scan next week.
hope you are doing ok mama.

user I had a quick scan of EBay and all I could find was this

There must be more out there somewhere!

So pleased to read all the lovely scan news Xmas Smile

mama I hope all is ok, been checking for an update.

It's madness here this time if year. I'm madly rushing from one school/nursery performance, fete or Xmas something or other everyday it seems. I'm desperately trying to get my present shopping finished. It's such a nightmare. Ds3 only asked for 2 things one of which is out of stock on the entire planet. I had my Boots order stolen from my door step thanks to the stupid courier leaving it outside when I wasn't home so I've spent 3 days now trying to sort that. It was an almost £200 order too. I really hope they sort it asap. I feel so unorganised this year.

Although I do have the tree and decs up so not all bad Xmas Grin

Sorry not had time to read all the way back on other thread. I will try catching up properly soon.

Take care in this hideous weather ladies :)

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 06/12/2012 18:00

I've just spent 2 hours digging my car out of the snow, which was not fun. My back is killing me now.

itsaruddygame · 06/12/2012 18:28

JJ we are also getting a Jane courtesy of my Mum. They are supposed to be really hard wearing (I want one for the stables/walking across the fields with the dog) and I recently met a lady with a 9 year old one that was still going strong so I am sure your re-furb will do a grand job for you.

mama hope all ok - everything crossed for your scan results and that your steriods started today as planned.

flamin nightmare re: the snow - where are you? We never seem to get much round these parts (north west).

bird brain I have some brilliant ice grips for my shoes that I take with me when we go skiing. You can put them on any shoe/boot and they are easy to slip on and off (no straps to do up just studs on stretchy plastic that stretch over the toe at the front and heel at the back). I cant remember what brand they are but will ask my husband later if he knows!

Hope all feeling ill get better quick - I have a bit of a cold but luckily is not taking too much hold!!

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 06/12/2012 18:49

I'm in Sweden and we've just had a 2 day mega-blizzard.

KelleStarOfWonder · 06/12/2012 19:06

usernamegoeshere H&M... I saw one the other day... but it's not on their website. I think it may have been a vest only, but it defo had cookie monster on it.

EmpressMatilda · 06/12/2012 19:15

flamin I knew there had to be a downside to living in Sweden. It sounds so bloody wonderful otherwise!

KelleStarOfWonder · 06/12/2012 19:18

itsaruddygame mine were from lidl! bought a few years ago, brilliant stuff, slip on my trainers or my walking boots. Was a worthy investment when I was expecting in December and was unbalanced wobbling about in the snow. Price is under a tenner. I recommend them to all my friends.

With all this ice and snow about [not in the SW yet] I've upgraded my autumn box in the boot to a winter version, extra snacks and drinks. I have a couple of snap to warm heat pads [disposable ones for back pain] extra mittens, scarves, hats, socks, tights and other extra clothes. I've also got my snow scoop, ice scraper [a wooden spatula which has a long arm] and a blanket. Most stuff gets used out and about, rather than when we breakdown, but best to be prepared.

Today has been a really busy day and I finally felt a bit better and have gained some energy. Finished preparations for DD's birthday in two weeks [three parties for my family, his family and DD's friends] and we plan on making christmas cards tomorrow, that's the last of the things to do on my list. We made jam and chutney last weekend and would like to make some marmalade as well, but time is short.

Teapig · 06/12/2012 22:07

Thanks so much for the reassurance on movement faith, crazy and jj. I like the idea that kicks are to come and will be lovely Christmas present, great thought jj.
angel and photochick I hope we all feel lots of wriggling and kicking soon.

Bump seems to have suddenly got huge. I thought I was hiding it quite well on tuesday but today bumped looked BIG. I caught the tube for the first time in ages and was immediately offered a seat, even with my big coat I must look obviously pregnant, kind of made me proud Xmas Smile

empress hope you're feeling better Thanks

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 06/12/2012 22:45

If you want shoe spike thingies, search on Amazon for Yaktrax. That's one brand but it will them bring up all the others. I feel safer with the spikey ones rather than the chain ones but apparantly they all work just as well.

empress the snow ploughs were out all night in it which mean the roads were safe to drive on as soon as it stopped. That is of course assuming you can find your car under the 3ft of snow with 6ft+ drifts.
