Angel - I think you sound on track to be gaining about the right amount of weight and I don't think you should be attempting to lose any at this stage. I think the total expected HEALTHY weight gain during pregnancy is 25-35lbs and you've only put on 14 of those so far...

Remember that most of that weight is not fat. You've got 50% more blood coursing around your body than usual, you've got 2.5lbs of baby, up to 4lbs extra of boobs, the weight of the plancta and amniotic fluid etc etc etc.

Go easy on your self!

28+2 (6 weeks left at work)

JessieEssex · 11/01/2013 17:20

angel don't worry about putting on a stone - I've put on about 16 pounds so far, but in the third trimester I think you're expected to put on about a pound a week, which will make my total about 27 pounds which is fine. It's a real shocker at first, but as the previous poster said, it's not fat, it's everything else that the baby needs (ok and maybe a bit of chocolate cake). I put on 30 pounds in my first pregnancy.

trish congratulations on the wedding date! ASOS have some great maternity dresses and lots of them are very reasonably priced. I you want to spend, try Isabella Oliver or Tiffany Rose.

angel after a disagreement with my midwife at 25w appointment I haven't weighed myself since (she said it was ridiculous to even monitor weight because it 100% doesn't matter) but I'm sure I've put on at least a stone.
I'm the same build as my Mum and she said she put on 2st with me and 3at with my brother. She said 2st was easy to shift after the birth but 3st tool a lot longer! As BonaDea says a lot of that weight is entirely necessary and unavoidable. I also read that ladies who do develop a healthy 'fat pad' during pregnancy are less likely to struggle with breast feeding!

Fluffeh · 11/01/2013 17:40

Congratulations on setting a date trish I have no dress advice but I hope you find the perfect one :).

On the weight front I am staying well clear of scales! I know I've gained loads by the way I feel and the way my thighs have grown but I'm going to worry about that after the baby's here, there's not much I can to look slim at the moment lol. Honestly, I think we probably do gain a little fat too but it's winter and the body does naturally :).

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 11/01/2013 17:46

Evening all. I'm on nights so Eurgh!

angel I agree you're probably on track (assuming you were a healthy we weight to start with?). I'd say if you've not been doing any exercise, get out there and walk a bit. Kindest exercise on your body at this point. I'm doing pregnancy yoga too which I find calms me and stretches me out.

angeltattoo · 11/01/2013 17:50

Congrats trish i went to a wedding over Christmas, the bride was due in Feb and looked just gorgeous!

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I think I just didn't expect to gain that much since Just before Christmas Blush. My BMI was 30.5 to start with, so I am keen not to gain loads (as advice is to gain less if bigger to start with) but I wouldn't try to loose weight.

On that note, off out to dinner with DH (hmmmm, mystery solved Wink)

MincePiesAndBaileys · 11/01/2013 18:11

Just to let you all know the boots baby event is on, usually has some good offers on. I am going to get some basics in eg nappies, cotton wool.

edinfirst · 11/01/2013 18:29

Hello again lovely ladies. Thread is moving so fast just now that by the time I think about responding to anything it is 'old news'.

So: all the names people have mentioned are really lovely; much sympathy to the SPD/PGP ladies; thanks for all the info on offers etc, we have a lot of wee bits still to get so will check out Boots and Sainsburys this weekend.

What has really spurred me to reply though is the news of Trish's wedding and a chance to waste hours looking at dresses-Congrats, you must be so excited! I spend a lot of the working day looking at maternity wear but buying nothing, so will happily look out for dresses if you let us know what you're looking for: long/short, White/colour (and if colour are there any you would rule out), floaty/tight? Exciting!

aufaniae · 11/01/2013 18:36

CMs vary enormously in what they expect for their holidays IME. Our old CM charged full whack for 4 weeks a year of her holiday. Not sure what she did for ours as we didn't have one while DS was going to her!

Our new CM never takes a holiday, except over Christmas. (I wish she would! She's lovely and I think she deserves a break!)

She doesn't charge for DS taking days off if we give her enough notice. If it's last minute, then we pay.

aufaniae · 11/01/2013 18:38

Oh, whoops wrong thread! Blush

Hi everyone

And congratulations Trish! Grin

Trishstar · 11/01/2013 18:43

Thanks for the congrats ladies!!

Dress wise I'm looking for non white/ivory.

I was a size 16 to begin with and my boobs have always been huge no matter my dress size. Currently I'm a 32GG.

Apart from that I'm open to suggestions!!!

Thank you xxx

jojo020780 · 11/01/2013 20:43

Hi ladies- wow I meant to have a quick peek on here as my dinner is in the oven adn it's moving so quick I think I need to set some time aside lolol. Yes Faith we found out 15 days after he passed (we know from using ovulation kits that we dtd on the the morning the day he passed) hence why it's taken me sooo long to get my head around it and get myself on here. I really look forward to getting to know you all- if I can keep up xxxxxxxxxx

EssexWelsh · 11/01/2013 21:14

The Sainsburys event looks like it is definitely the cheapest, especially on nappies size 1, but also saw these for those wanting an alternative to cotton wool...

huggies cotton sheets

EssexWelsh · 11/01/2013 21:16

Don't think link worked, just google huggies cotton soft sheets on sainsburys x 60 for £1.05 on offer til tomorrow.

lili86 · 11/01/2013 22:02

Wow, so much to catch up on!
Not sleeping eitherSad, just cant get comfy.
Just about to order a newborn huggies box from asda. You get a pack of size one nappies, pure wipes and cotton sheets for £3! Never used cottonwool with ds, far too faffy, just sensitive wipes.
I didnt get spd with ds during pregnancy(surprising as he was huge!) but had it for 9mths after his birth! Really difficult dragging a baby and a pram up a flight of stairs.
Our cot is dropside and i dont see any issue with it and im using a cotbumper again. You just need to regularly check that they are tied well.
Think we have decided on a name! Only one dh likes, so as long as she looks like she suits it then we will have a Mollie Rose.
I work in retail, so im on my feet the whole timeSad. only doing weekends just now so not too bad and hoping to finish work first or second week of april. Baby not due til 28th and ds was 8days late so will probably be a may baby!
Ds has his 6th bday 26/4, so a house full of kids and full term will be interesting!

Cant remember who was concerned about itching downstairs! It could just be all the extra bloodflow down there giving you less of an airing. It can cause a little swelling and the heat causes itching and a less than fragrant smell!

lili86 · 11/01/2013 22:50

asda baby event starts on the 17th!

JaquelineHyde · 11/01/2013 23:04

I weighed myself today after all the weight chat going on here and I have so far lost 1 stone exactly Smile

Before anyone starts thinking WTF I was far, far too heavy to begin with and so my weight loss is a good thing!

My midwife (rather naughtily I thought) told me that it is perfectly healthy and expected for women not to put any weight on until the 3rd trimester Shock This goes against everything else I have read on weight gain and my reserach so far tells me that 1lb a week from about 18-20 weeks is perfectly normal.

I am really quite excited about getting on the scales after giving birth but it is safe to say that I will still be a good 8-9 stone heavy than any of you lot Grin Grin

Knackered and off to bed, see you all in the morrow.

EssexWelsh · 11/01/2013 23:17

lili I saw the asda deal, £3 is so cheap as usually £5.97 but they are currently sold out, so hopefully they restock with that offer, let us know if you get them at that price.

MincePiesAndBaileys · 11/01/2013 23:29

I received a letter from gp today saying I needed to go and see them on Monday, my last urine sample had leukocytes in, and was sent off to the hospital. Googling tells me it's prob a uti, anyone with any experience of this? Oh, and I think I have piles. Along with the insomnia and heartburn, I'm having a blast Confused

Looking forward to buying some tiny nappies though. The geek in me will have to do a spreadsheet to see who us cheaper out of all the baby events going on....Blush

EssexWelsh · 11/01/2013 23:43

Ooh do share your spreadsheet mincepies!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 12/01/2013 03:34

MincePies are you having a lot of discharge? This can be one thing that result in leukocytes (getting into the urine flow) showing up in urine samples - so my MW said on Tuesday! They'll contact you if your specimen grows anything but IME (as a nurse) unless there's other stuff in it it's unlikely to grow anything.

Good for you jacq, as long as you're eating healthily I don't think it's a problem! :)

MumofWombat · 12/01/2013 06:55

Hey bunnygirl the heat is driving me potty. I'm avoiding going out - unless I know they have air conditioning there, but also because it means I have to get dressed... I'm only wearing underwear around the house. And I totally get the short tempered thing. Luckily, my DH has the patience of a saint as I'm snippy with him much more than he deserves. But he gets that I'm sleeping badly and hating the heat. He's even not gone to cricket training a couple of times so he can take over DS so I can lie down in an air conditioned room.
I can remember when I first came on Mumsnet I saw a post with someone worrying about being pregnant over the UK summer. I didn't actually post anything but I may have got a bit shouty at the computer. She was given advice to wear layers, and to consider getting a portable fan.
I would love to be dealing with winter.... Although winter here isn't a 'proper' winter. I've not worn a coat since I emigrated...
28 weeks today.

And with names, we like Caitlin and Annabel. Margaret will be the middle name to honour DHs grandmother - who is desperate for a girl in the family!

JoRich77 · 12/01/2013 09:39

Hi, girls

Just quickly re nappies, I have been recommended the kiddicare just4bums nappies. They are £19.99 for approx. 200 and am told just as good as the big brands. Am also thinking of trying the lidl nappies which have good reeviews on here. Think to start with probably best to get smaller packs though as they grow so quickly.

I think I will also doing the sad thing of getting my calculator out and working out the cost per nappy!

We do want to move onto non disposals after the first say 6 months, I just think it might be too much to think about for the first few months. Our council rans a non disposal nappy trial service so going to look into that before buying any non disposables.

lutrinae · 12/01/2013 10:49

Hi all,

Much sympathy to anyone with pelvic pain/SPD. My sister had it when she was PG with my niece and it seemed horrendous. Puts my standard leg & back ache into perspective.

I am planning to work up until two days before my due date! No idea how wise this is but I don't see the point in having M/L before the baby's born, especially when I can only afford 6 months off. Also first babies are usually late, right?
It is annoying how many people are asking me when I'm going on M/L, and look shocked when I tell them :/

angel I've put on a stone too, and do no excercise (starting to feel a bit guilty about that) and like you was so sick up until a few weeks ago that eating whatever seems a brilliant luxury. Don't be hard on yourself!

aufaniae · 12/01/2013 11:43

lutrinae you do what suits you.

I had originally planned 2 weeks mat leave last time, but made it earlier in the end as I found I was getting really tired. My body was telling me loudly to slow down! There's absolutely no way I could have gone to work the last week. I had to ask my sister to come round to mine to help me sort through stuff, it was beyond me - I was having problems standing up for any length of time!

A good friend of mine on the other hand had loads of energy throughout her pregnancy, and she worked right up till just a week before her EDD.

I would say though, you do need a back-up plan if you find you're not coping. Don't ignore to your body if it's telling you it needs to rest! (And this is a real possibility.) You need your strength for labour and the first few weeks.
Would your work be flexible if you needed to take more time off at short notice?

Slightly tangental, but have you got a mortgage? If so, do you know if they give mortgage holidays for mat leave? Ours did and this allowed me to take a year off - would have been 6 months otherwise.
