Oh Manda - to be perfectly honest I don't like the dresses the same I think although are twins they should have own Id and the corny stereotype of gender colours is not my cup of tea either! I like being different Andover my kids looking different and not conforming!!! Dc in total 5 so this is dc 6!
Had a 4d scan today it was amazing and so cute spooked dH out but I loved it!
I have had all my Dc 3 natural with nothing more then gas and air! My last birth was 45 mins so not taking no chances with this one and will have bag packed in Feb!!!!
Sorry about the kitchen fund I can totally understand why you flipped kitchens are the heart of a family home!
I have been off work for last 3 weeks due to back pains and spd kicking off will go in Friday & mon and then off till 10 jan!
Have not confirmed mat leave yet was hoping to get to feb but I doubt it! Hopefully have al to bridge gap!!!
Also can you tell me how FB group works ? My lack of posting has really left me behind!
Hope everyone else is ok!!! Roll on weekend fly out on Christmas!!!

Hi rainbow, yes we discussed all the risks the night before and he gave me a copy f the from to take home if I had any questions. My view was that I am a professional in what I do and people trust my judgement. He is a great consultant with a lot of experience and his view was the risks to me and baby were far higher with a natural birth than the things that can go wrong with a c section. So I went with the medical advice. I had lots of questions too but all the answers I got reassured me. If your healthy and don't have complications that is different but as others have said it is major surgery so you just have to go easy on yourself for the days that follow. To be honest I was happy sitting in bed feeding the baby and because you have a catheter it's important to drink a lot after surgery to keep everything working, fruit juice is good as well to keep things loose! My mother is a nurse so se was giving me all this advice as the midwives are busy but it's common sense if you think about it as they won't et you home til you have poo'd! Is that tmi!!

But for me it was still a fab experience and I don't feel I missed out. Being prepared mentally is v important as is being positive regardless. What you want is a healthy baby and healthy you. My dh did Mae the missed of taking a photo as DS was born over the curtain so you can see my insides! Not pleasant!! And the lady who mentioned the machines is right but I was so taken by the baby that I missed all that!

Emus · 20/12/2012 16:14

Manda Big hug to you, I can totally feel your frustration! Hope you manage to calm down soon.

Lanny I had my whooping cough jab this morning and its been fine all day so far (although did hurt when the mw used the same arm to take my blood pressure!).

So after my earlier worries about baby not growing, appears he is as I'm measuring 31 when I have only just turned 28 Shock. She said if I was measuring 32 then I would have to go for another scan to see what's going on. The other mw measured me at 30 (twice) and then 31 so I think they've gone for 31. Had some bloods taken but I've never been tested for Glucose yet.

Speaking of Glucose. Have finally got to the bottom of what my flaming hospital appointment is for tomorrow (posted in depth on FB about this!)! It's not for the Glucose Clinic (the hospital had made a mistake!). It's for my anti-D injection. I'm just so glad I can eat before my appointment.

We've just got back from a lovely lunch appointment in Oxford but Im still hungry! Have to go and raid the cupboards...

LexiandBeanette · 20/12/2012 16:51

Oh manda I would be spitting! Really don't feel you are BU at all! For me the issue would be less about the kitchen and more about doing something with the money other than what was agreed - grrrrr!
lanny thanks for sharing birth plan, some things there I hadn't thought of!
emus sorry to hear you have to have the GTT, hope it comes back all clear.
count definitely roll on Christmas! One more working day then a two week break....yippeeeee!Xmas Grin

Rainbowbabyhope · 20/12/2012 17:08

eigmum thank you for sharing your experience - that's really helpful. Unfortunately I have not always had the most positive of experiences with medical staff and have found them to generally be somewhat selective in the information they shared with me about life and death decisions which I had to make (basically treating me as if I wouldn't be able to understand the real information). This has left me somewhat distrustful so encouraging to hear of great experiences with great doctors as it should be!

Emus · 20/12/2012 17:21

Lexi I don't have to have the GTT test! The hospital had confused things by getting my letter wrong. The appointment is for my anti-D injection. Feel a bit like a pin cushion at the moment!

StormyBrid · 20/12/2012 18:31

lanny your birth plan sounds a lot like mine, although I'm being realistic about my pain tolerance levels and also plan to get some screaming and swearing in there. Will have to sit down with my sister at some point and go over my thoughts on epidurals, being sliced open, etc, as she's going to be holding my hand throughout so could do to know these things.

Got home from an extremely soggy excursion to the bank, to discover the shiny new fridge has arrived! The old one was tiny and fridge at the bottom, the new one is huge and fridge at the top. Had a job persuading the man we even need a new one - apparently "I can't actually bend down to get anything out of this fridge, and this state of affairs is not going to change for another three months!" is not sufficient reason in his mind. Nor is "This is an unfurnished house; it doesn't come with a fridge and I am not stealing a tiny crappy one that I hate from the old house!" In the end I just kept restating over and over that we need a damned fridge until he relented and agreed. So manda I feel your pain at having to contend with an entire kitchen that you hate. And you're well within your rights to rant!

Emus yay for not having the GTT, and I will join you in a happy dance for that one. Was sure I was supposed to have it too, but the midwife on Friday said I don't need to because my BMI was a whole 0.3 below 30 at booking-in. Hurrah!

In other news, I think I may be experiencing some of these Braxton Hicks wossnames. Is particularly uncomfortable when slouching, so I may have to rethink the evening's plan to collapse in a heap in front of the shiny new television. (Have I mentioned how much I love shiny new household goods?)

lannyshrops · 20/12/2012 18:57

Xposted with you before manda I would be chuffing livid if my DH did that! Never mind coping with a skanky kitchen (which I so couldn't do) it would be the not keeping his half of the bargain and doing something which we have not discussed and choosing to do something else which would upset me more! That's so not on! I am right with you lovely xxx

Just seen the midwife, all is very good. I'm measuring 29 which is perfect (que swotty student in me preening!) baby is transverse at the moment which explains why I always feel movements in my right side. She, as always, was lovely and as long as all continues to progress in the same vein, midwife led unit will be a goer and not horrid consultant led unit! Fingers crossed!

Em2010 · 20/12/2012 19:11

Oh meant to add earlier about your kitchen manda - completely understand where you are coming from! Must be so annoyed! It's just the sort of thing my dh would do too so I really sympathise!

Must dash as dh and ds are fighting again

mandasand · 20/12/2012 19:16

Thanks for sympathy over kitchengate, ladies! I understand that it may seem unreasonable - and it certainly does to DH. I won't bitch about the state of his bachelor pad before I moved in (for a month after the US) but suffice to say we have v. different standards, but of more importance is that we're working hard to make a home and the kitchen feels like a.n.other rented house kitchen with other people's grime embedded in it here and there. And more important than that is, as you say Lanny and Lexi, that he has reneged on a firm agreement. He has been known to do this before and sometimes I feel like getting him to write things down so that I have some proof on what precisely has been agreed (there has been some argument over this today, but I know I'm right!!) but it always feels too much (untrusting, maybe?) actually to put things in writing with my DH!

Yippee for shiny new things, Stormy! Persistence pays off, I see Xmas Smile

Sorry you've had the lurgy Lanny. Do you find you get more or less viruses because of your line of work? And how are they going to manage without covering your mat. leave?! Wahoo re MW-led unit.

Your births sound amazing Count!

And good to hear your CS experience Eig - thanks for sharing.

Emus good job you didn't fast for tomorrow's appt!! Oooh where did you go for your nice lunch in Oxford?

TribbleWithoutaCause · 20/12/2012 19:24

Mand How blinking annoying, a kitchen is the heart of the home. I would be on your side of the argument.

Lanny Great news on the MW led unit, they are fab!

Sheldonella · 20/12/2012 19:40

Evening ladies. Bit of a grrrr day but I'm slowly calming down. Midwife appointment on the whole fine - baby's heartbeat healthy, blood pressure & wee good. Scary thing was my blood sugar was high (8.3) after my Lucozade challenge so I have to have the full glucose tolerance test. The hospital should have told me a week ago and the midwife wasn't happy. I called and they had no appointments until 3rd January but when I got home there was a letter waiting for me with an appointment for 27th. I feel much better about this as I really didn't want to be worrying about it until after new year. Has anyone ever had/heard about anyone who had a high reading but didn't have diabetes? I know it is really common but the complications really scare me. I feel a bit better as I looked at my notes and my first trimester reading was only 3.8. I'm also measuring 30 weeks but I'm less worried about this.

No whooping cough jab thanks to the silly procedures at my practice so I have that in January. I did get anti-d though in my arm, not my bum! It was a little bit painful but it doesn't hurt at all now I'm home. Oh yes, baby is breech.

I've decided to adjust my diet a bit. I got lots of chocolate for my birthday and have eaten loads lately. I don't normally eat lots of sweet things but since being pg I have had lots :(

manda I would be annoyed about the kitchen too! I would love a new kitchen but mine is not that bad so I can't really justify. If I really hated it I would be doing something about it though. It is important to like your kitchen.

Glad your move went well Stormy. New fridge with the fridge part on top sounds good to me.

OP posts:
Rainbowbabyhope · 20/12/2012 20:08

Sheldonella my independent midwife told me that loads of people get false positives on the Lucozade challenge because not many of us who have healthy balance diets consume such level of sugar at a frequent enough basis so this is not a particularly accurate way of measuring your bodies' abilities to process it. Apparently its actually a bit worrying in terms of healthy lifestyle if you tolerate it too well! Also I know people worry about measuring ahead but a bigger baby is always preferable to one that has growth issues and I have been told by a number of midwives that birthing a large baby is no different provided you are mobile and clever about positions (i.e. don't lie on your back in bed!).

Sheldonella · 20/12/2012 21:06

Thanks rainbow that is reassuring. I hope I get the result from the test quickly.

OP posts:
theTramp · 20/12/2012 23:07

Shel; I've had several glucose tests when not preggers and am always fine but initial blood readings can be all over shop. Honestly treat it as a worry if it comes issue.

Stormy - hurrah for comfy house.

Also hurrah for new fridge. Big whoop! MrM was asking me if the fridge freezer is my favourite buy for our house.. I'll be honest it's between that & the washing machine which sings a little song to me when it's finished. Love of white goods - I feel so old! :)

Manda - I'd be spitting blood. MrM has a selective memory on certain things too. My trick has been to use the notes section on my phone, write what we've agreed and then email it to him saying - did I miss anything? Invariably response is no et voila! Proof. Sneaky sneaky. But necessary or I'd go mad. In every sense of the word. I'd say this was one of those occasions where sod your other halfs pov, this is a proper "you've let me down & I'm both upset and disappointed in you and now I worry that my priorities and yours for our home & family are misaligned" emotional blackmail chats. Gloves off.

Some of these birth stories are fab btw. But I'm skimming mostly as I'm sticking to my less is more, zen approach to it all.

Birth plan remains - drugs please and whatever needs to be done so that baby is healthy. But if ripping me apart can be avoided, all the better. I'm still of a view that I'd rather be alone for it all. But of MrM is here and wants to be there grand. I can't imagine why he would though. Also - clean baby and gees gawd please no sight or sound of an umbilical chord. Snip that thing & act like it was never there. I really do not want to know! Chicken, me? Why yes I am.

I agree with view that they're experts at what they do and I at what I do advice btw. Naturally there are some bad apples, but I'm not an expert so I'm willing to defer. I'm also willing to accept that no one is God and we're all falible. I say this now of course...

Been out for dinner with baby bro and his gf as wont see him now til mid Jan. nice to see him. But seems that along with bone tiredness I've also gotten a lip sore, a large spot on chin and a cough. Quite the evening. Seriously, how did that happen? Gah.

Sorry if I've missed anyone. Sympathetic looks to all those with sore jab arms. Even more sympathy to those ladies ordered to bed rest. And serious empathy to anyone with bump & back pain today. I believe my left arse cheek is now completely numb. Ohh the joys... :)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 20/12/2012 23:10

Hi all

Hope all ok, still not caught up, only finished work at 1045! Arrghh!
Anyway, that's me done now til Jan, so hopefully can catch up tomorrow! Night all. X

StealthToddler · 21/12/2012 07:05

Got my GTT later today..... Not looking forward to the fasting bit as it is over lunch time!

Loving all the birth stories.

I have been fortunate so far with my first 3 and hoping for similar this time....only ever had gas and air which I think is great and had water birth for ds3 which would love to repeat.

Ds3 has ANOTHER ear infection bless him. Managed to get an appt for him yesterday and antibiotics so hope it will clear by Xmas. New Year's Day this year we had an emergency dr at the house for same! Anyhow not much sleep in this house.

Dh is 43 tomorrow so we are having a night awAy tonight for first time in 2 1/2 yrs with no kids!! Our nanny is staying over and I know she will be fine with munchkin as antibiotics will have started to work and he totally adores her, but still feel guilty!!! Can't wait!

sundaesundae · 21/12/2012 07:36

Morning all! sat in my car in a carpark trying not to fall asleep as i wait fir someone to run up. Left home just after 5, think i could have had another half an hour in bed!! The idea. Of Christmas us exhausting me and i feellike i have tonnes to.do still! Bump is being quite quit, but still movement several times a day just more muffled so think she us hiding behind my placenta. Having a little party in a new position. Last day of work before xmas, hopefully. It will go. Quick!

LookingForwardToMarch · 21/12/2012 07:39

I managed to luck out with my GTT!

It was early in the morning and I was shattered, so just took a nap while I was waiting on DH lol

theTramp · 21/12/2012 08:27

Stealth - the night away sounds fab. Enjoy & enjoy guilt free.

OctoberCarrot · 21/12/2012 08:45

stealth. Enjoy night away. Sounds glorious!

mands. Would be so miffed about kitchen too. Fingers crossed you can sort something out.

Ds a little better after duvet day. DH doesn't want to send him to my mums tonight which is extreme but that is ok by me. Think sister will be disappointed as she was looking forward to sleepover. They'll have him tomorrow and night anyhow so should get her godson time!

Been invited to a New Year's Eve party on 30th December which I am really looking forward to. Fancy dress so need to work out suitable 70's/80's costume for pregnant belly!

Need to get last few presents today and then all set.

Hope everyone slept ok and are feeling good. We are getting close to single weeks ladies Smile.

theTramp · 21/12/2012 09:06

Oct - Kaftan!

Em2010 · 21/12/2012 09:42

Enjoy your night out stealth - well deserved I think!

october I've been invited to a friends 30th in a few weeks. It's also fancy dress - theme is skiing! I have NO idea what to wear! Haven't been skiing for years and don't have any ski gear, neither does dh!! If anyone has any inspiration they'd like to share I'd be eternally grateful!

Hope everyone is ok! Not long till Christmas holidays ladies.. ! x

LexiandBeanette · 21/12/2012 10:26

stealth enjoy your night away, I am sure your LO will be OK!
Tramp Sorry to hear about numb bum - I share your pain, feeling rather creaky! Work do tonight, black tie; have managed to squeeze into a rather drapey full length halterneck from pre-baby but will need to wear a bra and a shrug I think. Also bought some ridiculously spiky, shiny ballet pumps from Carvela that I would never normally consider as I wanted something a little glam for Christmas.
Then a weekend of food shopping and putting everything back in our loft to make space for Dave's Nan. Sigh!
Hope everyone is having a good day and gets to wind down a little before the break.

Rainbowbabyhope · 21/12/2012 10:33

Tramp understand the squimishness about the cord etc but tbh when the time came with DD1 I really couldn't care less what she was covered in or attached too! Also worth reading up on the massive benefits of delayed clamping and cutting of the cord to newborns - there are a lot of studies which show delayed cutting even for a couple of minutes is incredibly beneficial for the baby. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-15736550. Really worth researching the natural third stage too in connection with this.
