Morning everyone! Feeling much better today and more positive. I talked to my mum who works with midwives and whatever happens with the gestational diabetes doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. I'm now going to put it to the back of my mind until the GTT and try to eat a bit more healthily until then.

The great news is that today is my last day at work this year :) :) :)

Stealth Hope your GTT goes well. Yay for the night away, sounds lovely.
All these parties sound great, piccies of outfits? :) Your shoes and dress sound lovely Lexi.

Lexi winding down would be lovely, it has been a stupidly busy week. Got up bright and early this morning to get started on the Vivaldi-inspired rage (really wish the jobcentre would change their hold music). Switch to income support now in progress, housing know I've moved, will ask the nurse about signing a maternity grant form for me when I'm there for the whooping cough this afternoon. Then it's Dove House to find bookcases (I think I'll be okay with three more, but who knows?), dropping off the keys to the old place, and going to Tesco for household stuff and a TV that won't stop working after half an hour.

In other words, hellishly busy. Roll on tomorrow!

FloweryBoots · 21/12/2012 14:00

Still no internet connection at home and little oportunity to MN at work, phone too ancient to do internet. But just thought I'd pop on to say happy Christmas, hope everyone is coping ok, and to grin wildly that today is my LAST day at work before maternity leave (and i have no intention of returning to this terrible place, so last day ever, woo hoo). Anyone else stopping all together at Christmas?

Had Anti D injection last week with a truely lovely midwife and enjoyed the whole appointment. Feel like I'm finally feeling posative about pregnancy and birth and can see past all that to an actaual baby (well, sometimes, it's still a bit un real though). Clearly the finishing work iminantly is making me feel a much happier being.

Haven't even attmpted to catch up but when our internet catches us up at the new house I shall return. In the mean time I am missng our chat somewhat!

JoJoBella84 · 21/12/2012 14:37

I've sort of finished flowery, I just have to turn up twice in January for two 30 minute presentations. So although I have work to do whilst I off I'm no longer back to Uni which is nice :)

sundaesundae · 21/12/2012 15:14

Got 8 weeks after Christmas to go! Though just been talking to my boss who basically told me I would be spending most of that doing erm not much! He worries bless him. And he is looking for my MAT cover. Good news!

Rainbowbabyhope · 21/12/2012 15:28

Envious of all of you finishing work now! I am going to be working till the very second this little one is born because I spend as much as I can of my limited maternity leave with baby as possible. Also I think I would get incredibly bored without any work to do but still not looking forward to what will undoubtably be an incredibly hectic time at work in the new year!

LexiandBeanette · 21/12/2012 15:34

I've got 4 weeks after Christmas and suspect they will be pretty manic - but definitely looking forward to the two week break I have now!

sundaesundae · 21/12/2012 15:38

I imagine mine will be more manic than my boss realises, I can't see how we can cope if I don't spend time dealing with things in Norfolk, Linconshire, Kent and Wales, and I will go mad sat at home for long!

Rainbow what do you do? My work think I am mad working till 37 weeks, but my job involves lots of driving, working with radiation and either being at a vets or a hospital so lots of risks.

Lexi, me too on the two week break, I have to send one email and then my laptop is going off, fair enough after 5am start! (did have lush costa hot chocolate with hazelnut and caramel shots and a croissant though...)

Rainbowbabyhope · 21/12/2012 16:53

Sundae, I am a lawyer so mainly desk based with occasional visits to clients so there is no reason for me not to work until I literally go into labour. Job is physically totally undemanding and I might as well be earning money and using my brain! No where near as active your job sounds! Tbh my employers would not be impressed if I tried to take maternity leave before baby is born and I am keen to keep them happy so I have a job to return too after the couple of months I am taking as leave.

lannyshrops · 21/12/2012 17:40

Evening all!
Friday done! Yeah! I am very jealous of all of you having 2weeks off! I will get Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day off. To be fair, in my profession that's ally good. we have a Blanket ban on all annual leave over the Christmas and new year period in order to ensure that we have the nursing staff to provide care as you cannot get agency staff this time of year. The exception being management, we don't have to work the main days, mainly from a cost perspective.

On the plus side, only 5 weeks left in work!!! I resubmitted my maternity leave form today to move it forward a week and use my annual leave to have some short weeks so I now only have 17 working days! Woop woop! I am so pleased! Oh oh oh and I had to imput it all onto the electronic rota system, adding the 8.2 weeks leave I will accrue next year I won't be going back until the end of March 2014. Holy cow!!! Now that's good!!

I have a cracking immune system manda which I think is partially due to the exposure to all the nasties and the fact that I was encouraged to "dirty play" as a child, IYSWIM? Normally the most I get is a sore throat or a cold which I manage with early nights and paracetamol. We do have slightly higher than average sickness target thresholds though as we recognise that the immune system does take a battering in out line of work.

DH is very upset. He bought himself a Christmas jumper as he wanted to be "individual", he ming od gets off on being a bit quirky. He has just found out that they are really "in" he is gutted!!

Ah news on confuddled???

lannyshrops · 21/12/2012 17:45

She has had her baby!!!!

zoeymlucas · 22/12/2012 09:42

Eigmum I am due 13th March and am an accountant, lol!!!

Finally some time off- I popped into work yesterday as I had to pay people but bought DS2 so I couldn't get drawn into things and end up being there all day which worked well! Really need to go to Asda but can't face the mentalness it brings with it I be honest so have stupidity put it off!

Can't believe March thread has is first baby and am so glad he is doing well and such a fab size too !!!! Makes it suddenly very real I might not hve long left- however I refuse to have a baby in 2012!!!

Hope everyone is ready for Christmas and starting to wind down now, I am so excited this year and while at Asda will be buying LOADS of gaviscon tablets so I can't eat what I want :)

Have a fab Saturday x

LexiandBeanette · 22/12/2012 16:27

Afternoon all - had a good day, braved Waitrose and did the big Christmas shop without being elbowed by any old ladies (happened last year!), cooked spag bol and lemon tart for my brother and SIL, who have just left and have begun to tidy the house. DH has just ordered me to rest so am sat on the sofa with feet up, we will put all the junk back in the loft tomorrow and get the place nice and clean for Santa DH's Nan Xmas Wink. Unfortunately I have a hacking cough and sneezes so a bit worried I am going to be ill! Early night and a hot bath for me tonight!
Just wanted to update on the tiredness thing; got my routine bloods back and I am anaemic which would explain the exhaustion (that plus normal 3rd trimester tiredness!) Might be worth anyone who is worried about tiredness levels getting tested. Will be back on the Floradix ASAP!

theTramp · 22/12/2012 16:35

Preggers book I have, which I linked to previously but can't remember name of, suggested taking at least 4 weeks off before due date is best if possible because putting feet up, increasing blood flow and just aclimatising to next step is worthwhile. Interesting because everyone seems very focused on work until you drop (everyone meaning most people, employers and books etc) which sounds contrary when you think on it.

Em - ski fancy dress how about goggles and a wooly hat? Or if you have one of those furry hats, an all in black outfit, big boots (snow, furry, uggs), the furry hat, gloves and two ski poles (obv sticks of any description would do)?

We're back from a "quick" sat am sort out sofa, get lights, try to find friend who had her baby recently a stocking trip. Nowhere had stockings. Nowhere. Am now sipping tea on sofa, trying to resist urge to nap and MrM is snoozing. Need to go to Sainsburys, sort out dinner, buy some more wrapping paper, wrap gifts and start on this proposal that I must finish by end of tomorrow. Then I also need to pack.

Research today has uncovered that whilst I am indeed suffering delicious cold at present, much of the sniffles I have had hitherto have been rhinitis rather than a cold. Prevention - nada. Cure - nada. But post birth it'll go away. Great. Apparently 30% of pregnant women suffer from it. Would have been nice if MW or Consultant had suggested this previously. Ah well.

Cat has just snuck (leapt claws out) on to my shoulder, so my attempts to remain cat hair free have been foiled. Blast. Purring is v v loud. I think Socs will recognise purring more than any other noise once born.

Weather here also vile.

JoJoBella84 · 22/12/2012 16:49

tramp could that explain why I've felt like I'm coming down with a cold for 6 weeks but nothing is happening, just feel a bit sniffly/bunged at times.

StormyBrid · 22/12/2012 16:59

I hope you're planning a day with your feet up soon, Tramp - sounds like far too hectic a day! Pretty lazy one here, someone came round to tut at the gutters but other than that all I've done is potter about online, eat pretty much constantly (but it's fruit, it's allowed, right?), and evict a cat from my seat every single time I come back from the loo.

Arm is pretty achey today. That whooping cough jab is a bugger compared to the flu one.

Stormageddon will likely be born recognising meows as much as human voices. I know babies are initially able to make all sounds used in human language, but then prune out the ones they're not exposed to, so am hoping this means she'll come out able to speak feline. Admittedly the cats aren't human, but clearly no one's told them that yet.

Those of us who have or had double-bump (I recall someone, possibly sundae, mentioning it before), how's everyone getting on with turning into one giant bump? These past few days I've noticed the double effect is much decreased, which is yayness because it means I can no longer be mistaken for just really fat. But it's also a bugger because the skin in the between-bumps area has obviously stretched far too quickly and is now peppered with purple marks. Was really hoping to avoid that!

Sheldonella · 22/12/2012 17:15

Hi everyone. Just relaxing while my dinner is in the oven. It smells delicious - chicken & chickpea smoked paprika stew.

I got a lovely lie in today but haven't been out anywhere. We were going out to pay a cheque into the bank but the rain here is awful so we decided to stay in. DH has had some money from a relative that passed away earlier this year so we are thinking new, huge capacity washing machine to deal with all the nappies and general baby washing. Any recommendations?

Ah, that explains it tramp. I've been sniffly on and off for months too. Not bad enough to be like a cold but enough to make breathing harder. I took your advice btw - banned googling health related stuff and feel better now :) DH has had stern words with me too. I blame my hormones Blush turns out MIL had the same scare and turned out fine. Hope I am too.

Hope your cough doesn't turn into anything lexi. Did you have your party last night? How did it go?

Another one with an achey arm stormy? Boo- glad I didn't get mine when I had anti-d the other day now. How's the new house?

lanny I feel or you with the Xmas working. My mum does it too and never gets much time off.

zoey great idea for stocking up on gaviscon! I'm just running out of mine.

So pleased for confuddled! Can't believe one of us has a baby already. Very happy to hear he is doing well Thanks

OodKingWenceslas · 22/12/2012 18:27

sheldonella re washing machines get one with a quick wash ( ours does 30 mins) and large capacity for washing big loads of bedding. It's amazing how quickly you can run out of clothes/bedding.

Em2010 · 22/12/2012 18:53

sheldon very quick post- chicken and chickpea smoked paprika stew sounds a-mazing! If you can't afford to splurge on a Miele washing machine then I highly recommend John Lewis washing machines- they are so reliable and on with a long warranty too. We went through so many rubbish hotpoint etc ones and then when ds was a baby we had the John Lewis one and it took a proper hammering without complaint.

Hope everyone else doing ok, will try and post properly as soon as I can!

sundaesundae · 22/12/2012 19:02

Anyone suddenly getting sciatica? Jesus it hurts, no idea how to ease it either :(

Had a busy day, did the big food shop, picked up last present, got diesel (that all took about 4 hours!!) have now made spicy parsnip soup, a carrot and walnut bread, scicilian flat breads and need to make a granary loaf. Tired, sore and can't be arsed, but need it for tomorrow!!!

Stormy yy to still having the double :( no nice bump for me.

StormyBrid · 22/12/2012 19:02

Shel it's amazing! Having spent six years in a mouldering shithole with various co-tenants, none of whom ever cleaned properly, it is wonderful to have a proper, nice, clean house that will be a family home. I keep catching myself just looking round and grinning. And the best part is now I can picture where we'll be with a baby.

This last toilet trip, I returned to find not one but both cats on my chair. Little one curled up pretending to be asleep and making herself as solid as possible (she knew she was about to be evicted). Neurotic one perched on the edge licking the little one's brain washing the little one's ear, and also making herself very solid. It's very cute, but I bet they'd complain if I sat on them.
