Dexi - Hello! I recognise your name, we must have been on the ttc boards together around March/April kind of time? I got pg in June and had mmc at the end of July but I'm back again too! EDD 10th Aug and cos of what happened the last time plus some early bleeding EPU have brough me in twice for scans and all is looking good and I'm sick as a dog so keeping everything crossed. Never heard of Harmony testing tho?

Stopsitting - I'm the same, I'm not in a particularly high risk bracket for something like Downs but I also don't know if I want to know either. Something to consider I suppose, but I think the only testing I'll have will be the anomaly scan at 20 weeks.

Sickness is my only real symptom and sore boobs. Sickness is horrendous though, I'm stuck in the house 24/7 and I think I'll be off work for a couple of weeks. Poor DS is going from granny to granny to childminder because DH is back at work and I'm really struggling to look after him at the mo. Hoping it'll pass in a few weeks tho cos I'm 9 weeks tomorrow!

Dexidoo · 04/01/2013 08:27

Hello littlemiss! Nice to see a familiar face!

Harmony is a relatively new test, think it is only available at a couple of private UK clinics. A blood sample is taken from mother and sent to US for analysis- fragments of the foetal DNA can be analysed for genetic problems. You can have it early (from 10w) and avoids the mc risk of CVS or amino. It does cost a few hundred £ though.

Checking in after lurking on here for ages... Morning all!

I am in Bucks so not Scotland either!

I am 10 +1 and have had my booking in appt with the midwife and a private scan at 8 weeks. Just received my letter from hospital about the NHS scan which is booked for the 22nd of Jan. It feels like ages away and a long time to battle the anxious niggles about whether everything is growing as it should be! This is my first pg and I worry daily about EVERYTHING - especially miscarriage. Hormones must be to blame!

EggyM · 04/01/2013 08:54

Also checking in after lurking for a long time. So paranoid after miscarriage in last pregnancy but I'm feeling a little more confident now I've made it to 10 weeks. Though won't completely relax til I have my scan in 2 weeks.

Had a wee panic earlier this week when my sickness completely disappeared for 3 days but seems to be returning slowly. A few other mumsnetters said this is to do with the placenta taking over at 9 weeks so I'll go with that.

mistyknight I am also 10+1 and also in bucks!

Bund · 04/01/2013 08:54

Morning :)
Haven't checked in for a few days as feeling v irritable and grumpy so avoiding anything pregnancy related. Feeling bit more normal now though - hope that's not a bad sign!
zippyrainbowbrite - i understand your concerns about telling your DSS. We have my partner's daughter (who is 6 this weekend) living with us part of the time. Partner is really worried about her reaction when we will her. Waiting till after scan till we speak to her. Worried about how it will be for her only being with us half the week when the baby will obviously be here the whole time. Guess all we can do is make her feel as loved and involved as possible but any advice appreciated - still got while to think through best way of doing it, as I'm just coming up for 7 weeks.
Oh, and I'm in Scotland too....

Lucy411 · 04/01/2013 09:56

mistyknight & eggym im also in bucks :)

RugBugs · 04/01/2013 10:20

Lexi I am also very glad it's school holidays, I'm dreading DP getting up at 6.45 next week, he's been entertaining DD every morning so I can get some extra kip in.

Yes to the sore nipples as well, bloody things are massive and sooo tender Sad

My scan confirmation came this morning, I have to drink 2 pints an hour before and not empty my bladder! Great! I've usually had my third wee of the day by the time of the scan and only one cup of decaf tea.

sunflowerlady · 04/01/2013 11:04

mistyknight & eggym im 10+1 today too....I'm a Manc tho x

LittleMissSnowShine · 04/01/2013 11:27

Eggy - Hmm hope that works for me, I'm round the clock sick and 9 weeks tomorrow so maybe placenta taking over will give me a break for a couple of days!

Waiting on my booking appt arriving but I know they usually schedule them for 11 weeks so it should be in about a fortnight. I've already been scanned twice in EPU but the next one will be great because there'll be (slightly) more to see and you can relax (a bit!) once first tri is over. Only thing I'm apprehensive about is that I'm starting to lean more and more towards having ELCS for this delivery and I'm a bit worried that midwife is going to really try and talk me out of it Hmm

RainboxFX · 04/01/2013 11:50

Hello all! I have been a bit quiet as have been busy over Christmas and feeling really anxious. But am 9+3 today and all well. Because of our history, we had a reassurance scan just before Christmas and have seen a heartbeat. Another scan on the 8th.

Told my boss yesterday as I do a fairly physical job with lots of heavy lifting.

Will try to be more involved from now on! Am in the North East of Scotland.

RuckAndRoll · 04/01/2013 12:01

Thanks for all the replies on the nuchal scan. Really interesting to see other peoples thought processes. One of the down sides to being a scientist who analyses everything as a job is I couldn't be given a '1 in x' chance of Down's Syndrome and not drive myself mad with analysing the result. We want and will love this baby no matter what so why freak me out in the process.

Briarrosy thanks for being honest. It's not scaring me, good to know the facts.

I see the midwife for my booking in on Monday, will be 8+4. I was told to write down any questions I had, she's going to think I'm neurotic the length of my list of questions!

totally hope your scan has done well today

Autumn12 · 04/01/2013 12:07

I have my scan on 25th Jan and they specifically said that I do NOT need to have a full bladder. Hmm I wonder why it's different to other people's advice?

Sugarkane · 04/01/2013 12:42

Have my 12 week scan today, although I know im not the 12 weeks they are classing me as. Need to start drinking the water soon, hate this part always makes me feel ill, im worried sick as is normal for me before scan.

TotallyEggFlipped · 04/01/2013 12:55

Hi everyone!
Great news today. Scan went well and it appears I'm even further along than we thought! Due date is 18/07/13 Grin
So it seems I'm in the wrong thread....... Do I have to leave now???
I had a bit of a weird moment during the scan when the sonographer said the legs were difficult to see and all I could think was 'that's ok, it has a heartbeat, head and arms...' (anyway, it has legs too - bonus!) I'm so happy and relieved. Hope it all goes as well for everyone else.

I opted out of the NT screening as I think the sensitivity and specificity of the tests would just lead to more anxiety for me, particularly when I read that screening only detects about 50% of Patau's. I'd still feel that I needed to wait for the anomaly scan anyway.

TotallyEggFlipped · 04/01/2013 12:55

Good luck Sugarkane!

TotallyEggFlipped · 04/01/2013 12:57

Autumn12 I was told to have a comfortably full bladder. They just need enough fluid in your bladder to create a 'window'. Remember the sonographer will be pressing down on your bladder with the probe. Grin

RugBugs · 04/01/2013 13:03

Hope it goes well Sugarkane

Autumn12 I think it might well be because of my elevated BMI. I was gutted when it came out at 30.7. Can I blame some of that on retained fluid and a slower digestion?

FoofFighter · 04/01/2013 14:42

Depends on the age of the scanning equipment, newer ones don't need as much fluid between :)

Yvonney · 04/01/2013 15:05

Went to my gp today so that's me in the system! Due date 26th Aug. Waiting on midwife phoning back to arrange booking in appointment.

Re scan - with my DS I drank loadsa water beforehand. A few girls before me obviously done the same, and as they all went in for their scans they all came back out to pee! The sonographer told me my bladder was very full and I could go to the toilet if I wanted, I held on though! I didn't realise how hard they press on your tummy tho, thought I was going to wet myself lol! So don't go too mad with the fluid intake Grin

FoofFighter · 04/01/2013 15:14

Worst thing is when they say you are too full and to go and let a bit out.... are the kidding?!!!!

Briarrosy · 04/01/2013 15:45

Congratulation totallyeggflipped, wonderful news! You're our first scanee! Best of luck sugarkane, let us know how I goes.

zen1980 · 04/01/2013 16:46

oh wow first scan Grin can't wait!! I have just rung the antenatal clinic on advice on my midwife ( she's fab) and they have an appointment for next Thursday with my consultant due to my thyroid problems~ from there they said that they would decide on my booking in and scan appointments. At least we are moving in the right direction!

Sugarkane · 04/01/2013 17:18

Scan fine heartbeat etc 9.5 weeks no due date as yet as too early to tell an may change, another scan in couple of weeks

Mayanbob · 04/01/2013 17:53

YAY Eggflipped congrats on Scan...

I still haven't heard from m/w. (DARN CHRISTMAS BREAK)

Pea Fritter and Pineapple Fritter from chippy still counts as 5 a day right?

Percephone · 04/01/2013 18:00

Got appointment for antenatal clinic. Says if I need a scan then I will need a full bladder. However it just says the appointment is for the clinic and not a scan. Confused now! Don't know whether to turn up bursting for a wee or not! Fortunately will see midwife again before then so will ask her Wink
