We had our BFPs in November.

Welcome aboard ladies.

Let's do this Journey together.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
3sthenew2 · 03/01/2013 16:43

Hi I'm not on Scotland couldn't be more further away (Devon) but I'm 7 weeks & symptomless. Went to Drs to confirm & was told I have to phone the midwife to book in & she's not in til next Wednesday & i probably wont see her til 12 weeks! which means a long nervous wait to make sure there's something actually there! Although he did say I might get an early scan due my age (37, didn't realise that was old!)
I'm not telling anyone til 12 weeks, just to on the safe side.

TotallyEggFlipped · 03/01/2013 17:19

3sthenew2 I'm in Devon too!

RuckAndRoll · 03/01/2013 17:22

Is anyone else starting to worry about the tests and scans to come? I'm starting to panic about the nuchal scan and whether to have it or not. Each time I think I've made a decision I panic again and change my mind.

Seeing the midwife for booking in on Monday so will try and clarify things with her then.

Snufflebabe · 03/01/2013 17:30

Another one for Simpsons in Edinburgh!

Tests wise, my DH and I have agreed that we will do the same as what we done with our DD. We decided not to have the downs test, as they only tell you what your chances are, and even if the results were high, we wouldn't choose to do anything about it.

Symptoms are still here, very quesy. I can't face an awful lot of food. Plain pasta is a winner at the moment. My boobs are also bigger.

I feel that my tummy below my belly button is starting to show a bump. Im only 8+4, but you are meant to show earlier with number two?

GaryBuseysTeeth · 03/01/2013 17:43

You know we'll have to call the next thread; Aug 2013; Scotland & everywhere else!
I'm London/Kent based.

Snuffle, I'm 8+5 with DC2 & I had the bloating, that's gone (most of it) now, I have the hard 'lump' where uterus is & it's poking out a little. Enough that I can't do up my normal sized trousers.

Ruck, I'd have every scan/test they throw at me.
I think of it like this; if you have the scan & it reveals something isn't growing correctly then you've got time to prepare/research how different it will make this DC to your average child.

From a horribly negative view, if the scan reveals a DC has a condition 'incompatible with life' at least you know early enough for termination to be an option (personally, if we found out ours had, for example, anencephaly I couldn't continue the pregnancy)....don't google anencephaly, it's where a person is born without part of the brain/skull & it's really upsetting to see!!

Exciting to see we're getting the first lot of booking appointments & scan dates!

3sthenew2 · 03/01/2013 18:05

Yay for Devon totally. when are you due?

I'm getting tested for everything, like you say gary it'll give us time to prepare if its not great news. Plus we 2 have two older children & don't want to tell them anything until we know everything's ok, I'd hate to get them excited about a new sibling then have to deliver bad news. They've been asking for a new baby for years!

shlomojo · 03/01/2013 18:13

Got my bfp two days ago. This is my fourth baby and tbh I was nervous about telling my husband as I thought he'd say "oh no, not again!".
BUT he's been saying he'll get a vasectomy since my Ds2 was born 6 yrs ago and never got around to it. I've been on the pill since forever and ran out in November. May have been a teensy bit late in starting the new packet...oops!

I am still in shock myself. 38 seems a tad old to conceive after missing only a couple of pills. :-/

Yvonney · 03/01/2013 18:21

3sthenew2 - I've just turned 37! I didn't think abt an early scan due to my age, kind of hope I get one now! I'm 6+3 and going to gp tomrw. I'm not in Devon but always wanted to go! Smile x

FoofFighter · 03/01/2013 18:28

Apparently a lot of women can have a late 30s early 40s fertility surge, nature's way of making sure you've got as many children as possible before time runs out I guess?

I'll be 40 by the time this one makes it's entrance.

Re tests, I wouldn't terminate for DS so not bothering with those, being 40 would skew results anyhow - just be the anomaly scan really then I suppose, and if something huge gets thrown up at that, well we will deal with it then. I think for me there's a sliding scale of what I could handle/be prepared to let a child handle.

FoofFighter · 03/01/2013 18:28

No early scans due to age here, it matters not a jot.

beckie90 · 03/01/2013 18:32

Hey everyone hope u all had a lovely new year. I'm 9+1 have got my booking appointment next Monday when Il be 9+5 havnt had no dating scan confirmation yet either :(

I have a little bloated bump, but can also feel my uterus now a few inches above pubic bone which is hard, but can't so much see it because of bloating

Welcome to all the new ladies :) xx

3sthenew2 · 03/01/2013 18:59

I didn't know about the fertility surge, that explains a lot Shock Took me 7 months to conceive ds2 so was planning/hoping on a winter 2013 baby if any at all. certainly not a summer one! I only came off the pill in November & just took a test on Christmas Day to rule pg out so I could have a Wine (or2)
Dreading telling work as everyone keeps getting pregnant & we're short staffed as it is. Might see how long I can keep my secret.

Nightwish · 03/01/2013 19:21

I'm in Devon too!

TotallyEggFlipped · 03/01/2013 19:38

Ruck we didn't have the screening with DD and we won't for this baby. I wouldn't have a termination for trisomy 21 and I wouldn't risk an amnio/CVS. I think that being told I was high risk would just add too much stress. I think that any major abnormalities like anencephaly should be fairly obvious even at 12 weeks and I'll wait for the anomaly scan for anything else.

3sthenew2 I have a scan tomorrow (that I'm freaking out about. I'm convinced there's something wrong. I don't know why I'm a pessimist) so hopefully I'll get an EDD. I haven't had a period since 2010, so I was a bit surprised with I got my BFP (had just been referred to the fertility clinic)

Nightwish yay for Devon!

3sthenew2 · 03/01/2013 19:57

Goodluck for tomorrow totally, my due dates a little unsure so hoping for a scan in a couple of weeks. I'm freaking as the only symptoms I have is a very slightly fuller chest. Had extreme nausea & tiredness with my other ds's. i know i should count my blessings really but it still doesn't feel real.

Briarrosy · 03/01/2013 20:05

I had the nuchal test in the summer and it flagged up trisomy 13 which was incompatible with life (Patau Syndrome) - so glad I found out so I could terminate as it would've miscarried later down the line and don't know how I'd have coped if people knew I was pregnant and it had started to show. Having said that it would've shown up on any scan, not just the nuchal one. Think Downs is less obvious.

Btw don't want to worry you - Patau is v rare.

LoveBeingAMrs · 03/01/2013 20:37

Im from Dorset! Got my midwife booking in on 10th so a week away!!! :-) :-) Not sure when my scan is!

I told my boss quite early on because the job i do has the potential to be quite risky!

Symptoms at the mo are extremely tired, (sleepig 12 hours a night easily), boobs were sore but getting better now! I too have been thinkig ive got a bit of a bump but do think it is bloating! ooh and i have been quite moody but think this is improving now too!!

Enjoying logging in and seeing others in the same boat! Still dying to tell the world but managing to keep it secret still!! :-) x x

OxfordToLondoner · 03/01/2013 21:02

foof I can absolutely unequivocally promise that your mindset now won't stop you bonding later! My first pregancy ended in miscarriage, and I felt the same with my second..,once I'd got through the 12 weeks and could feel 'it's real!' all that bonding stuff switched on big time. 5 years later and I couldn't be closer to my DS, he's totally rocked my world. Fingers crossed for us all for the next few weeks.

FoofFighter · 03/01/2013 21:57

That's reassuring :)

Good luck for tomorrow totally x

I've gone and booked a private scan for the end of Jan.

zen1980 · 03/01/2013 22:13

hey everyone
I'm not in Scotland but am in the north Grin I too am waiting on booking in and scan date Hmm so think I will chase tomorrow 9+4. very impatient even though still sick as a dog until lunch an sore back ( had severe spd with dc.) Am getting the odd cramps from time to time, anyone else?

LexiLoganberry · 03/01/2013 22:57

I've relaxed now about my cramps, I think everything must be ok with the other symptoms I have, some foods that I'd usually enjoy turn my stomach, going to the toilet at an alarming rate, my breasts and nipples are very tender and I'm so tired, sleeping for 9-11 hours at night (thank goodness it's the school holidays and I can have a lay in).

I've got my booking in appointment on the 15th January.

My DH had a dream last night that we were having twins, a little part of me would love that to be the case.

LexiLoganberry · 03/01/2013 23:00

Meant to ask, anyone who has painfully erect nipples, do you find a hot water bottle helps?

Not in Scotland here, I'm on the Norfolk coast.

Stopsittingonyoursister · 03/01/2013 23:42

Not in Scotland here either, in Yorkshire (God's own county, as they say!)

Have my scan on the 21st Jan - letter says 9am but I think it's one of those appointments where everyone is told to come at 9am and then they take you in first come first served, so planning to get there early to be at the front of the queue! We didn't have the nuchal scan with the last two DC, and can't decide what to do about this one - I am 34 so technically the risks are higher with this baby than the other two, but even if the risk of Downs for example is 1 in 2, that's still a 50% chance of a "healthly" baby (sorry I can't think of a more appropriate word than that). I just think that not knowing is one less thing to worry about, but I do appreciate the ability to prepare yourself if something is wrong.....

I know this is something I should know, but talking of scans, does the nuchal scan pick up any other abnormalities that wouldn't show up on either the 12 or 20 week scan? I always thought the nuchal scan was just for Downs, but am I wrong?

Symptoms here have definitely eased off in the last couple of days (fingers crossed) but weighed myself yesterday and I have put on half a stone!! Was shocked tbh - but then I have been constantly grazing on stuff like cheese and biscuits to try and keep the evening nausea at bay, so shouldn't be surprised really. Now that the sickness seems to have cleared up, I'm definitely going to do more healthy eating otherwise I will have two stone to lose come August.

Counted the weeks since my LMP the other day (as you do) and was shocked to discover I am now 10+5 - 11 weeks on Saturday! I thought I was much less far on, time is flying already.

totally best of luck for tomorrow, hope it all goes well. Welcome shlomojo, 4th DC is incredible news! My DH is booking his vasectomy the minute this one is born, if not before, just in case!!

MrsWajs · 04/01/2013 01:06

I think the nuchal scan can pick up 2 other potential chromosomal abnormalities as well stopsitting I was just reading up about it last night online as I never had it with DD either.

Dexidoo · 04/01/2013 07:54

Hi everyone, here to add a bit of Welsh into the mix Smile

I have been procrastinating about joining the thread for 3 weeks since my BFP but didn't want to tempt fate after an early mc 6 months ago.

Now feeling braver after having a private scan last night that showed everything seems well and strong heartbeat. 7+2 today, nauseated & knackered!!

Is anyone considering Harmony testing? I'm a month off 34 and medical background and definitely want screening for trisomies.
