Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Secondsop · 20/11/2012 14:18

spotty how many weeks are you? Have you been told when you'll be induced yet?

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2012 14:22

34+4 being induced at 38 weeks not until 13th December! Got scan and consultant a week tomorrow though and bp check tomorrow

cherrypiew3 · 20/11/2012 14:29

Dated Hope you ok wishing you lots of luck.

Prunella Wow at your bump don't worry it will all go back.

Cookies Are you feeling any better?

Feeling really shite today up all night with heartburn and sickness this morning which resulted in me sitting on the bathroom floor crying uncontrollably. Dh had just come home from a night shift and told me to get back in bed and he would take the dc to school. Made me cry even more cause then I felt guilty. Still don't feel great now.

Secondsop · 20/11/2012 14:37

cherrypie don't feel guilty - sounds like your husband is taking good care of you which is great - what you need is to make sure you are rested and well. See if you can do my thing of finding one nice thing, however small, to "rescue" the day - even if it's just a cup of tea and a tv programme you like.

spotty your induction is what would have been my "normal" due date. Are you having monitoring apart from the diabetic visits? I have to go to the day assessment unit twice a week for blood pressure checks and they do the tummy monitors on the baby at the same time. Re insulin resistance - could it be that you've improved the glycemic position generally? I certainly found that (eg) my fasting bloods have improved from when I was diagnosed at 28 weeks. Hopefully a call with the diabetic team will help put your mind at rest.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 20/11/2012 14:53

Seconds I'm due 16th, no induction date yet. Just wondering if your sugar levels are controlled? As with mine they're only doing a normal midwife check (yest) and obstetrician appointment thurs. no other appointments lined up yet. I wonder if they should be keeping a better eye on it all. Had a couple of high readings last week so diabetic midwife said if I get another high reading I'm to up my metformin to 2x500mg twice a day instead of 1. I seem to be ok today though. So hopefully the ob will fill me in a but better on thurs.

Secondsop · 20/11/2012 15:11

stacey I've been ok except for each week ive had a couple of readings in the low 8s. I had 3 weeks of diet control, then went on metformin which has definitely helped. At my appointment yesterday they considered whether to put me on insulin but as each 8 was in the morning after porridge, they agreed to carry on without it so long as I gave up the porridge. I'm to ring them if I have any more high readings. I'm currently on 1 metformin tablet, twice a day - I tried to step up to 2 tablets twice a day but got really bad nausea and diarrhoea both times i tried, so went back to 1.

Mornings are harder for me as I'm SO fed up of burgen bread and just want a nice hot bowl of porridge. But I have to grin and bear it just for a few days more now.

I saw the consultant yesterday and he wasnt very impressed with my sugars which was a bit disappointing as I thought tipping into the low 8s very occasionally wasn't too bad, and the diabetic nurse the week before had said i was doing well- she said bigger women often really struggle with it much more than I have. The consultant said the point of him coming over from the other hospital to do this clinic was that it was for women whose sugars were well controlled. Which did make me wonder who is classed as not well-controlled, and, given that this was the diabetic clinic, made me wonder where such women therefore go for their antenatal appointments!

HoneyMum21 · 20/11/2012 15:23

Bit of a random question- a while ago someone mentioned that they had a chart or a website that told you how many covers/what baby should be wearing depending on the temp of the room. Does anyone still have this info?

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2012 15:44

I think I've got one in dd's bedroom Honey ill have a look later.

I think it's different with type 1 seconds basically pre pregnancy I would take 1u per 10g of carbs this has increased three fold for breakfast which is to be expected so for me to suddenly go low when I haven't eaten anything different and given the same amount of insulin is a bit of a worry especially as it took three biscuits and three dextrose tablets to go back up. I'm on weekly bp checks and fortnightly DNS and consultant Smile

Stacey check out the NICE guidelines if you think they're not paying you enough attention it says minimum requirements I think

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 20/11/2012 15:46

See that sounds like a very similar situation to me now (a few low 8s) and possibly stepping up to 2 tablets. The registrar I saw last week said I wouldn't be induced until 39/40 weeks though. Maybe the obstetrician will decode differently when I see them thurs. esp as when they originally said if I had medication they wouldn't let me go over 38 weeks Confused

Bored of all this tbh!

HoneyMum21 · 20/11/2012 15:55

Thanks spotty.

For any first timers- 2 tips I've found u thought I'd pass on. 1. I was told I'd never get to drink a hot cup if tea as baby would always start crying when I'd made one. DH bought me one if those travel thermos mugs and it has been a godsend! 2. If you're using water and cotton wool for nappy changes (As he was prem they told us to avoid wipes for a while) fill a thermos with warn water before bed and leave it next to the change table/mat - saves a lot of time at 2am when you get the dirty one off and realise you've forgotten to get the water!

Dunno if they'll be useful tips but hope they help someone!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2012 15:58

Oh this is all I have Honey chart shows you what to dress them in at night with which sleeping bag so might not help?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 20/11/2012 16:01

Thanks spotty I had a look and it seems I should get more info this week (36) re breastfeeding birth choices etc. Also it says I should be offered induction from 38 wks so we shall see what the obstetrician says.

HoneyMum21 · 20/11/2012 16:02

Thanks spotty :)

giraffe213 · 20/11/2012 16:16

Honey, I found this website which has general information about blankets and a chart that actually says how many blankets to use at each temperature. Now I'm wondering if I should buy more! I was assuming one would be enough as all I'd heard is to be careful not to let baby overheat.

Has anyone seen this thread about humiliating experiences in childbirth? It's kept me amused all afternoon, thought it's been a bit of an eye opener! I think I need to prepare DH for any eventualities as he doesn't have a clue what he's getting into, bless him.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 20/11/2012 16:23

Bollocks, I've got a water infection. I was hoping the back pain might develop into contractions but it seems it's just from the infection. I've also got an appointment on the 3rd to find out an induction date (which is my due date).

honey those are good tips for a second timer too! I'll be investing in the flask for tea, what a great idea as I remember never being able to finish a cup.

HoneyMum21 · 20/11/2012 16:25

Thanks giraffe.

I read thAt thread a few weeks ago - actually the night before Dash was born but before they decided I was in labour. It kept me entertained!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2012 16:42

Oh that's rubbish Strawb hope you get better soon and it has been partly contractions!

giraffe I think when they say two layers of blanket they mean one folded in half?

EggsMichelle · 20/11/2012 16:42

I want baileys hot chocolate :( and I now know what weetractions are, I have had several since yesterday afternoon, and added back pain to that.

Wonder how Dated is doing, that catheter business sounds bad.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2012 16:43

I didn't poo last time but I'm still worried about it this time Blush

Clarella · 20/11/2012 16:58

Great idea honey! Thanks!

hoping dating is ok.

That's annoying strawb - was that at mws? Now in wondering about my back ache. But It does go with movement etc.

Met nct ladies - no one else inc overdue lady +10 has these back aches and aching bump. Hoping just everything stretching etc. 4 babies down, 4 to go!

AlisonDB · 20/11/2012 17:49

Really hoped we would have heard good news by now from Dated, just hope she is ok!!
I have my growth scan tomorrow, also being transfered to hospital/consultant care, I'm really hoping that I will be given a date for induction,
I'm 36 weeks today, so really hoping to be induced at 39wks!!!
Am now getting slightly addicted to the raspberry leaf tea, and have started on EPO 1 tablet per day, going to to 2 next week and 3 the week after that!!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2012 17:50

Argh I have to stand on my tip toes to wash up to stop my bump rubbing on the side

StrawberrytallCAKE · 20/11/2012 17:52

Thanks spotty me too. I didn't poo either but I do have an embarrassing story on that thread involving that area

Clarella it was at mw, I had called her two weeks ago with symptoms and my last test was negative with the awful mw I see before consultant appointments but the community mw I see found the infection straight away.

I just read a thread from dating on a painful catheter, hope she's ok too.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/11/2012 17:59

Oh Strawb I just had to read that! Have you seen photos of it? (Not yours obviously but other women!!) It's not pretty Wink I didn't get that or the ring of fire etc due to forceps so I'm still a little clueless as to the sensation. Can't be worse than forceps without an epidural can it....?.......really?
