Oh olimoss I bought my wedding dress from Isabella Olliver, we were married 2 weeks before ds2 was born (talk about shotgun!) Anyway, they miscalculated the VAT refund and the return of another dress I'd ordered to try and I got it all for free - excellent service! Am eager to see other recommendations though, l

TheBakersWife · 13/11/2012 17:26

Ooops looked in our local Mothercare and it looked tatty.
Although this all feels a bit like counting my chickens... Dd has contracted Slapped Cheek, just waiting on blood test results to come back to see if I'm immune. Have to wait till Monday, keep getting period like cramps & hoping it's all in the mind - ho hum

Anothercerealnamechanger · 13/11/2012 17:28

I bought a lot of clothes from mummy and little me last time including a balloon and some everyday trousers. I also lived in next non maternity linen trousers.

Have just discovered I've put on about 8lb on two weeks, this isnt babybut my rubbish crisp addiction. Need to get a handle on it fast and start drinking more water as well, I know dieting in pg is frowned on but I'm getting blubbery! !!

RueDeWakening · 13/11/2012 18:20

I've had my booking-in bloods done today (actual booking in not till next Wednesday, but they caught me early so all the results are ready for next week!). 8 vials they had off me, 8 Shock. Now I know they're not just the booking in ones, there were a few others I needed doing and got them done together, but the MW who did it went off to check my weight and see whether I had enough blood in my arm to do them all at once :o

Just need to remember to take my booking-in wee sample with me on Wednesday! Scan is on 30th November, later than I thought - I need to check that it's within the nuchal scan limits as according to today's MW I'm 11 weeks already and that's a while away yet...

Anothercerealnamechanger · 13/11/2012 18:23

Just to clarify I bought a ballgown NOT a balloon! !!

flutterby123 · 13/11/2012 18:43

Hi all, sorry I've not been on in a while. Had my first mw appointment yday. She was lovely. Had different tests, including urine and I had a high level of ketones (spelling??) in it. I think that's the same thing people get when they do the atkins diet. Is it from your body burning muscle as it's not getting enough energy from food? I've hardly been able to eat anything for a while now. Started being sick again this week, not good. Although have just had tea and feel a bit better now. MW said I should get an appointment through for a scan next week. I was offered nuchal fold testing. Anyone got any thoughts on this? I'm veering towards having it done, but I'm not sure.

olimoss · 13/11/2012 18:57

Flutterby - I think the nuchal fold thing is really personal. Boyfriend and I agreed even before I got pregnant that we'd run the whole gamut of tests if necessary, I've other friends who didn't at all. It really depends on how you feel about risks, etc.

TheBakersWife - the Isabella Oliver dress is lovely, came beautifully packaged as well but think it was made for a giant. I'm just over 5'6" and it still needed inches and inches taking off the hem!

In other news I think I might be slightly less nauseous but any relief has been replaced by really ridiculous tiredness. I absolutely had a nap under my desk at work yesterday! I'm also having strange food cravings - tonight it's packet tacos, something I've not had (or remotey desired) since I was about 15.

This whole pregnancy thing is utterly nuts already, and I'm only 11 weeks along....

DontmindifIdo · 13/11/2012 19:02

Suzyrut - topshop maternity is actually very good, as is Seraphine I've got quite a few bits from Mamas and Papas and Boden (most from having DS and unfortunately I'd snapped and bought some new jeans before having the MC in July - feels like tempting fate again to get it all back out of the loft, but I'm running out of wearable clothes!)

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 13/11/2012 19:22

Hello! Sorry I've been a bit rubbish, I do keep reading just not a lot of posting

I cant beleive people are only getting to the 'slightly snug' jeans stage, I've been in comfy stretchy ones practically since the line appeared! nothing to do with this babys fondness for chips oh no

Am 11+2 today, got my 12 weeks scan next Thursday

Take care Lady

Sunbeam18 · 13/11/2012 20:13

Hi! Glad to have found you all! I was on the old thread, wondering why nobody had posted for days!
I'm 8+2, and having early scan tomorrow! So nervous and excited!
Symptoms not too severe - occasional nausea that is helped by eating carbs, and feeling faint first thing in morning. Oh, and being desperate for bed at 9pm.
Good to hear a range of symptoms from others.
Am still wearing normal clothes, but my jeans won't fasten! Must be the almond croissants....

AlohaMama · 13/11/2012 21:25

Fortunately our bathroom scales have broken so I have no way of telling if the pounds are piling on or not! And am wearing comfy low-waisted skirts, that stretched through most of the last pregnancy, so no way of telling there either. Ignorance is bliss!!

I've just ordered a couple of things online from New Look. No idea what the quality will be but I decided I didn't want to spend any money on clothes this time. You end up wearing so many things for such a short period anyway as your body changes so much. The only things that really lasted were a great monsoon (non-maternity) cross-over dress that i wore (and stretched) throughout. So comfy! I did make the mistake of stretching lots of clothes though, thinking how great it was that I could wear them throughout pregnancy and then subsequently realising they were all stretched and mis-shapen. Still I can get those back out of the loft now...

Otherwise I can happily report I slept all last night without waking up feeling sick, instead of the usual 2 or 3 times. So happy! All went pear shaped as soon as I got up but still, happy for small mercies!

MummyInHeels · 14/11/2012 06:50

Hello girls! Not been around much as busy with work and I'm so glad we have a new thread and that some of you are also feeling snug in your jeans! As this is my first pregnancy and I'm the first of my friends to be pregnant, I have no idea what's normal and what isn't! I've had a 'bump' for about 3 weeks now and I'm only 8 weeks+0! Obviously, as the baby is about the size of a grape, this can't be baby? Is it just bloatedness then? I usually wear a size 6 and I've always been known for being very tiny, so it's very noticeable!
I've got my first midwife appt today, don't really know what to expect apart from the screening test questions. I've read all the leaflets they sent me. I heard a rumour that some people get to hear baby's heartbeat through a doppler thing, but I'm not getting my hopes up because I googled it just now and it seems that midwives don't like doing it as heartbeats are hard to find and so cause unnecessary worry. We'll see, I'm going to ask anyway. Also, my mum has mithered me to make sure I ask for a strep b test. Anyone else asked for that?
x

MrsBri · 14/11/2012 08:25

I'm 8+4 and have also had a bump for a while...most annoying as everyone knows I'm pregnant.

No sickness today, which I find disconcerting. Still a bit twingey though. I did retch once or twice, but not sure that counts as sickness!

I'd much prefer consistent symptoms. Anybody else with that?! :-) I've got good at not letting being sick get in the way too...throw up and move on!

SecretSparkle · 14/11/2012 08:41

Aloha I stopped weighing myself when I was diagnosed with PCOS, my special diet book told me that those with PCOS shouldnt weigh themselves due to the horrid water rentention thing, so I have absolutely no idea whats going on!! except I can't do my clothes up, round the belly area, but everything else still fits.

Mummy Its not baby as such, but still a bump!! especially if it doesn't go down!!!

Anothercerealnamechanger · 14/11/2012 09:35

With my first pg I was quite bloated until 12/13 weeks and jeans were getting snug, needing to wear dresses etc but then the bloat vanished and in fact I didn't show noticeably until 26 weeks. As of today I am drinking more water and cutting back on the carbs as the nausea is easing and I really don;t want to be left with 2-3stone to lose afterwards like last time

SecretSparkle · 14/11/2012 09:39

Cereal Have you spoken to your midwife? I'm worried that you are contemplating dieting, and its really not a good idea when your preggers!

Anothercerealnamechanger · 14/11/2012 09:46

Secret - I'm not dieting, honest, I am cutting out the sweet sugary and very processed carbs which until MS hit I hadn't eaten in a long time. MW agrees I need to be aware of weigh gain as I have a problem with my hip - I am just having a balanced diet and upping my water intake. 3 or 4 bags of hula hoops a day is only going to end badly Wink

SecretSparkle · 14/11/2012 10:12

jolly good!!

but Shock at hula hoops not being good for you!!!

JeffActually · 14/11/2012 10:37

Morning all!
I've just weighed myself and have lost half a stone since Friday Shock Have been really poorly with a hideous sore throat and all over aching. Feel a touch better today and am visiting my lovely mum for her birthday...we're going out for lunch AND dinner so I have a feeling that the half stone will rediscover itself by the end of the week.
I put on too much weight last pregnancy and didn't lose the last stone before this little one turned up so I am not to worried about losing it. My lovely DH has been ensuring that I eat fruit and vegetables if nothing else!
Can anyone who has been pregnant before remember when can feel the top of the actual bump...is it fundal line or summat?
I swear in my last pregnancy I could never really tell where it was but the midwife seemed happy. I keep poking my lower belly trying to work out if anything is there yet....sadly all I am finding is more belly!

secret and cereal Hula hoops have holes through the middle and therefore no calories....I thought everyone knew that?!

suzyrut · 14/11/2012 10:48

Hi all thanks for the maternity clothes recommendations I will get on the internet after my scan next week. Got the ususal round of christmassy functions (but without the usual drinking Sad) and a wedding reception to go to, will probably all be in exactly the same outfit!

mrsbri my symptoms started going at about your stage and are much less now (sorry to anyone still in the midst of suffering)

PseudoBadger · 14/11/2012 11:01

I was very surprised at my scales this morning - I've been feeling so fat all over and have been eating all the time (hula hoops - yum, 2 packs today already...) to stop feeling sick - but have only put on 0.5 kilo in 4 weeks. DS is helping by still BFing though I'm sure :o and I am trying to be healthier than last pregnancy (when my sickness was much worse).

MrsJLS85 · 14/11/2012 11:58

Hello girls! Am well into my maternity jeans now, and loving it! Second time around, and I am showing MUCH sooner than last time.

And, same as last time, I am craving fruit like crazy!! I guess thats a good thing because it means I'm eating rather healthily, and it certain helps keep things.. regular...

A note on dieting/unhealthy eating in pregnancy: There have been a lot of studies that show how cutting calories, or eating unhealthily generally when pregnant, can lead to a greater chance of obesity for your child. Because in the womb the child receives messages like: "it seems obtaining proper calories is hard to come by. Therefore when I am born I must slow down my metabolism to hang onto the calories that I do receive"

Of course that being said, in your first trimester you just have to eat what you can get to power through the nausea. Just know you can make up for it when you're feeling better by eating lots of fruit and veg, protein, good carbs, etc. Eating fish is proven to reduce your chance of premature birth. Studies show that Inuit communities have the lowest rate of premature births in the world (due to their fish intake).

MrsBri · 14/11/2012 12:07

Ooh...that's good to know, Suzy. I've been worried all morning. :-/

Anothercerealnamechanger · 14/11/2012 12:33

I work in a research post with access to medical journals and have done an amount of reading on the benefits to ensuring a healthy weight over the course of a pregnancy reducing complications in labour, gestational diabetes and PE (I had complications in labour last time so therefore eager to avoid issues again).

I'm not joining slimfast or eating three meals of special K a day. I am however going to be realistic about the weight which my body can cope with given I have a physical defect in my hip which is worse when pg/or heavier. MW quite happy to support me in my healthy eating campaign given my BMI has gone from 23 to 26 in 6 weeks.

now wondering if my addiction to fish caused DC1 to go so overdue......

spiderlight · 14/11/2012 13:24

Just phoned my surgery to find out why I've not heard from teh midwife about my booking-in yet.
-Did you fill in the form we gave you?
-You didn't give me a form.
-Oh.
So I don't exist yet and SH will have to call and pick a form up on his way home from work. I still have no symptoms though. I've got another test upstairs but it's several months pert its use-by date - will it be reliable?
