Do you have to be 40 weeks before a MW will give you a sweep?

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/11/2012 16:19

shanelle did you have that done at Frimley or did a Heatherwood and Wexham midwife come and do it at home?

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/11/2012 16:22

dhthat is really sad.

shanelle5 · 07/11/2012 16:40

sophia I had it done at home by a community MW from Bracknell forest team, Ive had all my recent appt at home probably as Im booked in for a HB. Its rather nice and saves me schlepping up to the Dr. She looked all of 15 but was really very good and I had a form done for 41 weeks with the bishops score all explained in detail.
stunt You are not missing out really! Its only policy to give a sweep if overdue as it can kick things off if everything else is favourable and also can tell you if its not so good to get an idea of how your cervix is doing etc. I know some women find thm uncomfortable but I do not after so many births and I doubt my cervix is ever properly shut anyway Blush
it was rather lovely if a little disconcerting to hear baby has hair

applepieinthesky · 07/11/2012 17:00

That's awful dh and must be so difficult to know what to say to her Sad

We are back to looking at baby names after changing our mind about the baby's middle name. What names go with Cassius? Any ideas?

Chunkychicken · 07/11/2012 17:02

DH what a shame for your friend. Hopefully, despite the worry at the moment, things will resolve easily and positively for them all.

Passmethecrisps · 07/11/2012 17:07

Back from post-sweep lunch. Also picked up push chair - what an action packed day!

My sweep was marginally less comfortable than a smear test. DH found it slightly odd watching me wincing while another man sticks his finger up my fanjo but we will chalk it up to a learning experience.

I have since had a wee spot of bleeding but that appears to have stopped. Some slightly wincy BH but nothing else. Kindle is on charge and DH has plans to download lots of things on to his iPad for me for Sunday. Suddenly all seems very immediate.

DH that is really scary for your friend. Poor we soul not even born yet and needing care for a tumour. But isn't it amazing what can be done?

shanelle you're such a pro at this birth malarkey that you barely even notice!

My wee sister who is 38 weeks today has also been taken in for observation. She has suffered from high BP and now has extreme swelling on her feet. They are going to keep her in for observation tonight. My poor mum is spinning in circles as my sister will be induced if there is no improvement overnight.

fatima my midwife said you had to be 40 weeks before a sweep.

MM your clients sound like bawbags

lilliana you are likely totally knackered - you only stopped work two days ago! Back rubs should be given on request - he needs to practice for labour!

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/11/2012 17:20

Thanks ladies, I just hope she gets the best possible outcome. I can't imagine how she's feeling.

pikz · 07/11/2012 17:23

I too got told 40 weeks for a sweep and nothing before.

Am bouncing on my ball with raspberry leaf after my walk. Determined to get baby moving.

DebussyHead · 07/11/2012 17:24

Have started to feel really nauseas like I might throw up at any moment Sad. Does anyone know if that is a sign of something starting? I hope it's not bloody food poisoning or sickness bug that's all I need at this stage. Also been gargling salt water and soluble paracetamol for my mega sore throat. Urgh.

DH your poor friend, puts things into perspective with my minor winges.

Fatima think you have to be 40 weeks but my friend had a sweep at 38 weeks for both hers but she is a GP so maybe managed to pull a few strings. She was in labour within 24 hours after both her sweeps.

Chunkychicken · 07/11/2012 17:32

I just walked out to my kitchen, feeling sore and achey, thinking I am so over being pregnant, then the thought hit: If I am no longer pregnant, that would mean I ad to give birth AND care for a newborn!!! I am not sure I'm ready for that Confused Is there any way I could NOT be pregnant for tiny little while BEFORE the baby arrives do you think??!!

Hope your sister is well Pass.

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/11/2012 17:42

I've been to the loo twice this afternoon and have backache now. Belly feels a bit weird all over but often does after going to the loo.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/11/2012 18:33

Where is detective today, is she silently stalking us? Or has she had the baby and buggered off to the other thread?

If I am still like this tomorrow ie contracting irregularly and at no increased level of pain I am going to ask for a sweep at my consultants appointment. I will be 40+1, but I had heard that Frimley didn't do them, so we will see. The midwife a the GPs is Heatherwood and Wexham and she said she would come to my house and do one next Fri if nothing has happened but I can't keep going like this till then will be the longest latent phase in history of man.

mm I agree with that Scottish word that pass used about your clients. Xx

TheDetective · 07/11/2012 18:58

I'm silently stalking Grin

I'm just in a crap mood, not wanting to bring the thread down! Am here though...!!

Jims · 07/11/2012 19:09

So I managed to take DS to softplay this morning but had a quiet afternoon with the TV and my phone to entertain him. I do try not to do that very often and get out and about but it was just too much effort today.

But when I did get my phone back briefly to check my emails, I found one saying I'd won £250 of Amazon vouchers for doing a Mumsnet survey. Hurrah! That'll help a lot with Christmas but must try not to spend it more than once...

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/11/2012 19:09

I think that is par for the course with all of us today dear detective < big hug>

kirrinIsland · 07/11/2012 19:14

DH that's awful - your poor friend :(

I saw the midwife today. She said that they could have done a sweep today but because I had that bleed/show over the weekend she didn't want to mess with anything so I'm booked in for one next wed instead :( Hopefully things will happen before then, though I won't hold my breath!

Passmethecrisps · 07/11/2012 19:19

Nice one detective!

Now that the dust has settled I am starting to worry about LO's size. The measurements can be 1Ib either side so that means between 4Ib 2oz and 6Ib 2oz. Still pretty small even at the largest size. I can't think why I would measure absolutely fine - bang on for weeks - then suddenly I am measuring to indicate low birth weight.

I have looked up causes of low birth weight and none of then appear to apply to me. My brother was 5Ib 5oz. Family history would be an indicator wouldn't it?

Had a wee panic earlier as I couldn't feel anything at all. Now lying on the sofa with body parts sticking out at all angles. I have never noticed these parts before so it seems LO has moved position.

No contractions, no show just tired and slightly sicky.

sophia that is a special term I reserve for special people Grin

jims hoorah! That is awesome! What a great surprise. I bought all my Christmas pressies on Amazon.

Passmethecrisps · 07/11/2012 19:20

Hmm. I don't remember starting my post with that? Sorry detective I wasn't being flippant. I think I meant to mention jims. I did say I was tired!

Lilliana · 07/11/2012 19:21

I take it back - After tea my back was killing so had to ask for a rub and DH obliged no complaints or excuses! (DH are you mumsnet stalking me!?) He did use his feet but it was brilliant for my back.

Sorry to hear you are in a crap mood Detective

Sophia I really hope things get moving for you, you must be so fed up by now.

Thanks Pass, I think maybe I overdid it a bit yesterday and you are right about being knackered. Spent the afternoon on the sofa trying to sort out the new laptop and feel much better now. Hope your sister is ok and the sweep gets things moving for you. Could you get a bed next to your sister to make life easier for you mum!?!

DH so sorry for your friend, it puts all my complaints into perspective x

Chunky if you find a way to manage that please let me know! I'm not sure I am ready to be a mum.

Debussy I've been feeling sick a lot recently, I think it can happen towards the end. I've only actually been sick once though - during a long car journey at the side of the road, not my most attractive moment!

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/11/2012 19:26

jims lucky you on the voucher win, v jel!!

kirrin I know she is devastated, she's got to go to London on mon for another scan so hopefully will know more then.

I've got a consultant app on mon to discuss birth etc although not sure why because everything is how it should be. Really hoping I pop before then anyway.

Passmethecrisps · 07/11/2012 19:26

Chance would be a fine thing about beds liliana! I am in central Scotland, sister is in Northern Ireland and mum and dad are in south west Scotland.

Whoever goes first gets first grandbaby award!

Chunkychicken · 07/11/2012 19:33

Will do Lilliana Grin

Almost burst into tears earlier when talking to DH about things we need to do/plans nxt wk etc so figure I'm in that hormonal/knackered/fed up stage.:(

DebussyHead · 07/11/2012 20:50

My waters broke half an hour ago!

Still have fluid pouring out!! Never happened with first pregnancy, is this normal? No painful contractions just string braxton hicks still.

Chunkychicken · 07/11/2012 20:56

Wow!! Debussy I assume that's normal (mine went with a big gush during a strong contraction). You should consider call your assessment unit/MW to let them know - they may want to monitor you. Remember no bubble baths, sex and careful wiping to avoid infection. Ooooh exciting!!! :)
