Sitting here craving chocolate but had some glucose show up at my 37 wk appointment with the midwife. on orders to make an effort with sweet stuff this week and getting checked again on friday. Then if ghats positive too it'll be a GTT, though at 38 weeks+ I'm not sure what if any actions would be needed.

HoneyMum21 · 11/11/2012 20:05

Ahh, that all sounds like you've got it worked out :) just wanted to make sure you knew your rights :)

We had 2 very good first days and nights but the past couple of days he's been challenging and he's turned into a devil child the past 3 nights Confused

pmgkt · 11/11/2012 20:10

I think that is normal, lull you into this false sense of security then let you know its all on their terms. You will be fine, just get sleep when you can and don't make your days too busy.

emilyeggs · 11/11/2012 21:02

Hold on! You mean I can ask for a c section? My notes say 'we do not offer c sections without a medical reason'

PurplePidjin · 11/11/2012 21:11

Met my newest nephew and his mum (BIL's ex gf, is that my NotSIL or what?!) and they're both fab. He's 3 weeks old and adorable :o

ISpyPlumPie · 11/11/2012 21:18

Busy day making DS's birthday cake - can't believe that my little boy is 3 tomorrow. Also went a bit mad with the shopping considering we're only having a few people round for birthday tea, but thought it'd be better to over rather than under cater!

Just need to get presents wrapped now and put up balloons and banners then we should be sorted.

ellliebelle · 11/11/2012 21:20

Pidj i was holding a 4 week old yesterday :) it was fab.

Well i bought my sling today just cant wait for it to arrive and also told my mum i wasnt overly cean on the changing bag she gave me so she has ordered me one ido like.

Planning a trip to holland and barratt tomorrow for raspberry leaf, evening primrose and arnica anything else anyone would say was essential while im there?

Hoping to get so drawers for baby this week so i cant start sorring out his/her things at the weekend :) at the moment everything is crammed into our spare ensuite and i am getting itchy feet about sorting through it but dont really want to until i have some where to put everything but finances are so tight at the moment its going to be a squeeze to get them :(

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 11/11/2012 21:25

gils they can't do a GTT after 34 weeks. They realised I should have had one when I was 34+2 but couldn't do it as I was past the cut off. So I've been given a blood glucose testing kit for a week to see what my levels are like not looking good tbh . I think you are likely to get a kit and some diet advice and that's probably about it tbh at your stage.

honey they def sleep well for a few days to lull you into a false sense of security, then they let you have it with both barrels! I hope you're managing to get some rest though!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 11/11/2012 21:27

ispy happy birthday ds :)

ellie have you tried freecycle? I got dcs wardrobe and drawers from there.

ellliebelle · 11/11/2012 21:33

stacey i have used freecycle before but totally forgot about it will have a look now thanks

WillYouDoTheFandango · 11/11/2012 21:52

ellie what about some lavender oil for your bath to help with any grazes/stitches? My midwife has been raving about it.

FriendofDorothy · 11/11/2012 21:56

Is lavender oil safe to use in the bath at this stage of pregnancy?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 11/11/2012 22:03

FoD I use lavender in my bath.

Secondsop · 11/11/2012 22:18

Ladies, please help a clueless first timer. WHAT DO BABIES WEAR? Say I'm getting him dressed in the morning on a cold day, is it: nappy, vest, onesie, knitted jumper, socks and hat? Then when does he wear the little white onesies that I've been given lots of? Are they for sleeping in? And, do babies wear hats in bed?

AlisonDB · 11/11/2012 22:21

I use lavender spray on my pillow, really helps me sleep! Haven't had insomnia since I started using it,

AlisonDB · 11/11/2012 22:23

Second ops, I would say yes to the order of clothes you have, for day time,
Same for night, but not the hat, their heads shouldn't be covered overnight.

Secondsop · 11/11/2012 22:25

Thank you alison, so at night does he just wear the little white onesie (plus nappy), and no other baby grow or anything on top of it? Oh dear perhaps I should take my mum up on her offer of coming to stay for a few days at the beginning.

HoneyMum21 · 11/11/2012 22:26

seconds - get onesies/sleepsuits with feet and ditch the socks the vein with - they stay on about 30 seconds!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 11/11/2012 22:33

second you would normally still put them in a vest plus onsie at night. If baby goes down for a long daytime sleep 2+ hours they shouldn't have a hat on then either or they'll overheat

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 11/11/2012 22:35

honey you can put socks over the sleep suit (with feet already) if little ones feet do get cold. They stay on the sleep suit better than they do the baby Wink

Secondsop · 11/11/2012 22:36

honey good tip re onesies with feet.

willyou - thank you.

So what are the little white onesies that look like vests with pants attached for? Are they a onesie "inner", to be used in the same way as a vest?

MaMaPo · 11/11/2012 22:40

Brilliant question about clothes, seconds - I have a followup. What is a vest in this country? I think of a little cotton ribbed thing, which has arm and neck holes but no sleeves, and goes down to the waist. Is that right? All my nieces and nephews always wore vests when babies, but I just haven't seen them here. Usually they would be layered under a onesie, or something. I have got some little things with short and long sleeves which snap together between the legs, but don't have long legs. What are they called? I probably need to buy some... trousers? tights? to go with them, so the Bean doesn't have cold legs. Right?

I had a conversation along these lines with my husband while we were at the shops today, and we just looked at each other blankly and said 'We're really crap at this.'

Pretty tired today - we threw a very elaborate early Christmas dinner for friends yesterday (we usually do it in mid-December, but given I'm due then we had to reschedule), four courses with all the trimmings. Everyone (but me) got completely sloshed, and more than one might have been slightly ill as a result... no sympathy from me! But I didn't get to bed until 3am and I had been on my feet all day. Definitely felt the pregnancy yesterday. Today I think I might have been having BH contractions - tightish feelings, not very distinct, and some period-type pains. Nothing too bad.

Today we went to pick out a pram/pusher/whatever it's called over here, and found out that John Lewis isn't accepting orders for the one we want as there is such a backlog that they won't be ready until February! Very crap. So back to the drawing board...

Secondsop · 11/11/2012 22:42

mamapo I just had a parallel conversation on Facebook with a friend with a baby and I gather the legless things with crotch poppers are also called vests. So it's not like what a grown up would call a vest, I gather.

HoneyMum21 · 11/11/2012 22:48

The little bodysuits which cover body and have long/short sleeves and popper between legs are vests - so one if these then a sleepsuits over the top (ones with integral scratch mitts are particularly useful). The cardi. We got told to leave a hat on when sleeping as he was so prem but don't think it's the same with term babies.

emilyeggs · 11/11/2012 22:50

Vests have poppers in crotch (no legs) and can have long sleeves short sleeves or no sleeves. I have long sleeves as its winter Smile. They go under sleep suit/ baby grow or any other outfit. X
