Hurrah!

JoJoB77 · 07/11/2012 12:58

Fantastic news honey, i can only imagine how excited you must be!

walnut no i didnt go straight to hospital, they wanted me to stay at home until they got more regular/stronger. Perhaps because it was my first and they thought i would have lots of time, i'm not sure. In the end we made our way to the hospital (an hour away) when i could bear no more, was 4cm dilated on arrival and they started antibs then.

I'm sure you will be fine for the wedding although it doesnt stop you worrying. Hope you have a lovely day Smile

pmgkt · 07/11/2012 13:00

Wonderful news Honey - well done Dash!

CODwidow · 07/11/2012 13:44

I will be swabbed for strep b as had it with ds2 he was taken to scbu and given antibiotics after he was born. I didn't know I had it so this time I'll be tested. But saying that I have no idea how the antibiotics work except they have to be given in labour. Only problem I have is ds4 was born within 40 mins of arriving at hospital so I'll wait for results and deal with it then.

CODwidow · 07/11/2012 13:45

Ooo and congrats honey

itsMYNutella · 07/11/2012 14:33

Congratulations Honey that is fantastic news!! So pleased for you both :)

They do a swab here as routine for Strep B and something else at my next appointment.
Apparently baby isn't quite as big as it should be Confused trouble is the Dr sent DP out of the room for my "exam" so we are both not quite sure we've understood how much of a problem it might be; or of course might not be - bloomin translating while preggo is not easy!!

itsMYNutella · 07/11/2012 14:46

Just to clarify - single sex showers!!! Not mixed showers. Although mixed sauna Hmm is ok .... Mind you I don't wear my contacts or glasses while in the sauna :o I only put my glasses on at the sauna when walking around - looking people in the eye only - or reading...

knottyhair · 07/11/2012 14:50

Hi everyone! I don't post very often on here but I do lurk a lot! Just wanted to send massive congratulations to Honey and baby Dash - great news. Also, with regard to the Strep b swabs, there was an article in Prima Baby a couple of months ago about this, recommending that you buy a test for £35 (there are various places to get them from - I've ordered mine from www.medisave.co.uk). The article basically said that they are not offered routinely by the NHS but even when they are, they usually use a High Vaginal Swab (HVS) which is less reliable than the Enriched Culture Medium (ECM) method which is the one you buy. Apparently the HVS can give a false negative. The test from Medisave is free with free postage, but you pay £35 to the lab when you send it off for processing. Apparently it needs to be done between 35-37 weeks. Just wanted to draw your attention to this so we can all make an informed decision.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 07/11/2012 14:51

nutella I think you're confused Grin blame baby brain!

Secondsop · 07/11/2012 14:51

Great news Honey!

stacey I have GD; it was diet controlled for a couple of weeks but I'm now gradually building up the metformin dose as diet control didn't enable me to eat enough food - eg I lost 5lb in one week which the diabetic nurse agreed was suboptimal when 33 weeks pregnant! I'm now finding metformin does help me eat a bit more, and I'm a lot less frustrated with it than I was when first diagnosed.

When I was diet controlled I was told that I definitely wouldn't go over my due date and that I would probably be induced at around 38 weeks but may be able to run on a bit longer if everything was going brilliantly. Now that I'm on metformin I've been told that I'll almost certainly be induced at/by 38 weeks. Which I am all for! Better out than in.

itsMYNutella · 07/11/2012 14:56

Ha ha ha ha Fantastic cross thread post :)

Whoops! That'll teach me to join in the discussion - with fellow expats in Germany- about going to the Sauna! Blush

MyDaydream · 07/11/2012 14:57

I went through a phase a few weeks back where I was convinced the skin where my belly button used to be pierced was going to rip it hurt so much. I really wish I'd listened to my mum and step sister when they told me not to get it done!
honey that's great news about dash, he must be doing so well.
Had my MW appointment and she's booked my next one at the hospital for me to see the birth centre and write/go through my birth plan. It's all very scary how close its getting now. One of our friends who's a holiday rep came back from her summer job Monday and went to her winter job today, she didn't even know I was pregnant and when we see her next I'll have a squishy little baby tagging on. We went to a get together to catch up last night and so many people were saying "if we don't see you before, good luck" to me when I left.
Going to ikea with my mum tonight and very excited (love Ikea), been looking online at what I want today for baby. We're putting his cot up and I'm sorting out his room on Sunday, DP is sorting out his computer room, its been in boxes since we moved I think he's getting withdrawal symptoms and I'm happy to do babies room alone if it means I can send him away while I was crap TV on a night.
I'm 34 weeks tomorrow am I right in thinking that's the time to start the raspberry leaf capsules? And starting on one a day building up to 6 a day eventually?

Clarella · 07/11/2012 15:31

Wonderful news honey!!!!!'' Grin

Survived my first sling meet; they were lovely and promised not to 'lick the new pregnant mommas!'

Now waiting for consultant appt steeling self - thinking going to be yet another new person to try to explain stuff to ......

Cookiesandcream06 · 07/11/2012 16:26

I've never heard of being swabbed for strep b?! Confused I feel so stupid. Should your MW mention it? Mine hasn't even mentioned flu or WC jab?!

Moan alert- lower back is really hurting

ellliebelle · 07/11/2012 16:53

( honey great news about dash bet your sooo pleased.
ispy glad your homebirth seems to be going to plan i really would like one and have been feeling quite down about it since finding out i have gd and then saw midwife today and babyvis also breech.:( im only 33 weeks so not too much to worry about i guess.

With gd i have managed to keep my levels pretty good last 3 days an di uavent felt hungry but saw midwife today and i had ketones in my urine not really sure what this means but guessing its not good. Obe good thing was that im measuring spot on so no signs of big baby at thr minute

SpottyTeacakes · 07/11/2012 16:56

ellie I always have ketones in my first morning sample but never if I do it later. They never mention it Confused

StrawberrytallCAKE · 07/11/2012 18:21

Evening!

Congratulations Honey hope you're home having lovely cuddles and watching Dash in his new home.

Loved the sauna interjection nutella, do they wear costumes or is it a full nude mixed sauna?

Sorry everyone is having a bit of a bad time of it. I have been googling strep b too as I had some green discharge early on in pregnancy but not since then. How do they know you have strep b after the baby is born if they haven't checked you before COD?

I was a bit silly when I was 18 and decided I was never going to have a baby so may aswell get what one would call a 'tramp stamp' on my tummy. It has been stretched twice now so really looking forward to seeing how it looks after this baby...might have it lasered off I think.

ISpyPlumPie · 07/11/2012 18:23

Ellie - Sad that things are sounding difficult atm. Think at 33 weeks there is plenty of time for the baby to turn - did some reading up as LO was breech at 30 weeks. Seemed that 36 weeks was the point at which it might become an issue, and this was backed up by mw I spoke to (who also said quite a few babies still turn on their own after this too).

Don't know anything about the GD side of things but sounds like they're monitoring it closely. Will keep my fingers crossed that you are able to have the birth you want.
