I have a question for you ladies -

Do any of you have "the purple line" yet?
It's a line that moves up from the anus to the top of the buttocks during labour and apparently once it reaches the top you are fully dilated. (For anyone who didn't know)

However I have one and it's already at the top so this is clearly rubbish! Anybody know why mine might be visible already (pressure from baby?) Despite the fact I am obviously not in labour let alone fully dilated!

TheDetective · 28/10/2012 14:04

Um, no I don't have one according to DP as I can't see my butt and no I don't know why you would have one when not in labour! I'll have a google Grin

I won't ask how you noticed it Grin

I'm just a sweaty monster then Sophia! I can clearly feel its cold, but am much more comfortable being cold!

horseylady · 28/10/2012 14:09

2 hours normal. He was back to back twisted head, cord round neck and stuck! I started to panic plus I was exhausted from pushing.

Started off fab in pool though with no pain relief. Then had gas and air over transition then nothing in pushing.

Then after 3 hours I said I couldn't carry on, baby made no progression so went from midwife to consultant. He was fab, he was truly wonderful but I struggled with the internal exam (no pain relief!!) so I was taken to theatre. Spinal then he could do the internal and see where he was lying and decide between suction or c section. He then said forceps was the only option of assisted delivery and only if I could push well enough and secondly if he could lock the forceps on. Thankfully I could push, he got the forceps on, baby came out!! Obviously both of us shell shocked, battered and bruised but my plan was always keep us both safe.

He's worth every second of yesterday (most of which I don't actually remember!). He's lovely his bruises are fading he just needs to eat!!! Expressed some into a cup just so hes eaten now they hope he will get established he's just sleeping lots. Plus hes still under 3 hourly observations for the peaditrician as he was making funny noises post birth. He's stopped now but still full of mucus etc.

Thechick · 28/10/2012 14:25

It's so exciting that more babies are being born. My LO is 3 weeks old today. Cannot believe how quickly the time is going. Looking forward to seeing you all on the post natal thread.

StuntNun · 28/10/2012 14:38

Wow Horsey it sounds like you both did really well with all those hardships. I hope you're recovering well. I'm sure baby's head is a bit sore but he'll get better fast. Is your DH looking after you both?

OP posts:
Chunkychicken · 28/10/2012 15:33

Well done Horsey - yet another example of why its called 'labour' huh? I'm sure the pain/discomfort/memories etc will fade in the next day or few. Enjoy your little man.

Have had a visit from a MW with the home birth kit, so as of tomorrow (assuming antibodies blood test comes back normal) its all go for Operation Home Delivery [hwink]. Did get the car, seat out today, check for stress/wear & tear issues & wash the covers, so if we need to go to hospital, we should be able to bring baby home in a nice clean seat at least.

WaitingForMe · 28/10/2012 15:36

Regarding witch hazel am I looking for a pure oil I dilute or a particular product?

MissMummy1 · 28/10/2012 16:28

Shit I fell asleep all afternoon Blush. Inlaws nowhere to be seen - cars are there so they won't be far unfortunately - me and the dog are snoozing. How is it possible to be this tired after an extra hours sleep?!

DH has suggested a massive chinese take away tonight for the 7 of us. He won't be ashore till near enough 8pm though so I might just be antisocial and opt for a bowl of cereal. Heartburn central here atm!!

Gosh horsey sounds rough - well done you though! My birth plan says strictly no drugs but I'm not half as strong as you by the sounds of it so imagine that will quickly change!!

TheDetective · 28/10/2012 16:46

I just want to give you a big hug Horsey you did a fantastic job, keeping you and baby safe!

MM I've been contemplating a nap all afternoon Blush but been trying to resist as baby has been quiet so waiting for him to wake up. Seems he likes evenings at the minute! He was quiet in the day yesterday until evening too! I want a nap though .

I don't think I am going to get my wish of a baby today :( Oh well, thursday is the next date I quite like!

DesperateHousewife21 · 28/10/2012 16:53

horsey what an ordeal! Glad you and baby are doing well now :)

chunky I'm 37 weeks on Tues but would rather she waited til wed because then it'll have been 2 weeks since the WC jab, plus I want to carve pumpkins with ds!

Fwiw, I have no purple line :)

ValiumQueen · 28/10/2012 17:12

Not nice horsey sounds as if you did remarkably well, and was very brave. I hope all your wounds heal in time x

TheDetective · 28/10/2012 17:16

I'm having a hard enough time reaching to wipe, let alone see purple lines Blush

YellowWellies · 28/10/2012 17:49

Waiting its not the essential oil it's a first aid kit rather than an aromatherapy product. It comes in glass bottles and looks like water. Ask in boots pharmacy section for distilled witch hazel bp. I loves it.

Horsey it sounds like you did an amazing job of a difficult presentation. Back to back is a bitch! We is the hardcore ladies on this thread.

Im just back from an hr break on the outside (we went to lidl for cake!!) its so good to be back with Jonas :)

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 28/10/2012 17:51

Congrats horsey and hope you are both recovering from your ordeal. Sounds like you were very brave indeed. Enjoy the snuggles.

Good to hear from you VQ and hope the post-section recovery goes well.

Tits how are you doing?

TheDetective · 28/10/2012 17:52

I feel like I am rattling around an empty house in here today!

It is quieter than usual Shock

YellowWellies · 28/10/2012 17:53

I only got the purple line in labour - it did indeed emerge txixt my butt cheeks when I was fully dilated. The midwives looked out for it.

MM1 sounds ideal - house guests you don't see! Why inflict themselves if they're going to go AWOL and dump the dog on you?! Hope you have a lovely Chinese x

MissMummy1 · 28/10/2012 18:06

The dog is lovely. She's welcome back anytime Grin !

Titsalinabumsquash · 28/10/2012 18:13

I'm still around. I've been working out solutions for the up coming week.

DP has taken the boys out to dinner to keep as much normality as possible in place as we always have a Sunday dinner out.

He is going to do all the phoning tomorrow and play advocate, we think if it comes from him to say he is concerned about my MH and the effect it's having on the family and he can vouch for the massive impact this is having on out lives we might shift someone.
So on the agenda for people to contact first thing tomorrow is,

Community midwife - I needed to talk to her today anyway but we want her to come to the house and see the issues and get a trace of baby at the same time since the scan was never done and I'm still unsure about what is/isn't fetal movement because of the pain.

Supervisor/head if midwives in our local hospital or the trust - DP is great on the phone and I'm confident he will get to at least talk to him/her where as I get fobbed off as an emotional wreck.

PALS - we're both certain regardless of outcome and the when and where's this needs a hefty complaint, I never want anyone to go through this at all.

We have DS1's community care nurse coming over anyway to do some regular stuff with him and to flush his portacath, their whole team is amazing so I'm going to call ahead in the morning to make them aware of what's going on to maybe get some extra support for the boys, they're scheduled to be out with the team on Tuesday for the day anyway but they might be able to offer something else in the way of help.

I've contacted our usual babysitter and she is happy to come and take the kids out for walks or to the park or somewhere just out for fresh air and excessive for an hour or 2 on wed/thu/fri.

I've obviously not moved today, DP has been running himself into the ground doing everything and still working at the same time, I'm quite worried about him commuting 2-3 hrs from Tuesday onwards at 5am whilst exhausted tbh.
BIL will be staying with us from Wed onwards to help with the kids breakfast/lunch/dinner.

All I need now is someone to help with cleaning/laundry but that is at present proving fruitless. Hopefully tomorrow might get some results with everything back to weekday opening.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 28/10/2012 18:28

Tits hopefully having a plan of action for tomorrow is making you feel a bit better. Really hope something comes of your (very justified) complaints.

Thechick · 28/10/2012 18:42

Looks like we crossed posts horsey congrats on he newborn, it sounds like you really went through it. Both my babies were back to back. my first ended in emcs and second he was early so had my vbac. It's 'funny' if thats the correct word, how you don't really remember it. I think it's because I was so sleep deprived. I had to ask dh to clarify the events of the night. Hope you are doing okay.

kirrinIsland · 28/10/2012 18:55

Sounds like you did really well horsey

Dispite a few promising hopeful twinges this morning, nothing is happening here. I'm literally praying for twinges now.

MM AWOL in laws are the best sort!

Never heard of the purple line and definitely not capable of checking if I have one!

ValiumQueen · 28/10/2012 18:59

detective you probably have a brown line then Grin

Elizadoesdolittle · 28/10/2012 19:00

Just quickly marking my place and saying huge congratulations to vq and horsey. I will go back through the thread and read your posts properly later.

Had a fab time at wedding. Was a long day though and did lots of dancing so am really shattered. Will get DD off to bed and then catch up with all the news.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 28/10/2012 19:24

swissi have the purple line!

Peaky1 · 28/10/2012 19:33

Lines on bums? Wtf? Lol! That's a new one in me.

Cheers for the witch hazel explanation. I'll have a look when I'm at the shops tomorrow.

Today has been nice. Just been busy with cleaning and errands during the day, had friends round, DP cooked dinner and now relaxing in front of the telly! Boring update I guess but I've got a relaxed fuzzy feeling tonight (esp as DP had allowed me to watch the crap that I like and he doesn't on tv e.g my recording of last week's strictly!) Mind you I've got to endure x-factor later for him so its all give n take I guess!
