mama of course you can do it! You and your baby are fighters! I hope today is better for you and no more crying!! I hope your dp can find the strength to be there for you when you need him the most, will he come to your next scan? Bet it was lovely seeing your DCs xxx

I am feeling ok now thank you just nervously awaiting next scan in just over a week!

trying I also use syringe for DD, she's only 11 months though, normally have to pin her and squirt down the side to the back, less chance of spitting it out! Not very nice for them but got to be done! Hope you all feel better soon

notshort think that could be the private place I went to with dd if its not too far and given were at same hospital, in a place KHill? If it is they are really lovely there and spend ages looking at baby! Hope you have a lovely holiday xxx

birdbrain we are also not finding out, same theory as you! Secretly hoping for another girl only because it would be easier, have so much pink stuff, and wouldn't know what to do with a boy! Sounds silly I know! Hope you're feeling better now

Thank you for all the messages after my scan, Not sure if I've caught up with everyone but I hope you're all ok, and tiredness and sickness is fading away xxx

15+2 I think!!

kellestar · 26/10/2012 12:44

trying a syringe is much easier. We moved over to boots own paracetemol suspension, it comes with a syringe and has a neck that fits snug to dose. It works just as well as calpol imo. Penicillin is vile stuff even with the flavouring, I can recommend a nice drink after, I used to like a mixed fruit juice [or Sunny D]. I have had tonsilitus so much when I was younger [and still do] that I still never got used to the taste, but always had something straight after to take the taste away. Also Icelollies are a good way to get fluid into him if he's not drinking, also good at cooling them down a bit if there temp is up.

giddy my BiL had sympathy symptoms including, nausea, stretching pains and a craving for pork pies. [hhmm] [hgrin]

I can say that our local Sainsbury's customer service is much more lacking than the local tesco. I fainted [again] and they got me a chair to sit in the aisle and that was it, no-one checked on me, felt a bit of a hindrance as the aisles are narrow and people passing me stopped to ask if I'm okay. Managed to get a loaf of bread and a pack of bacon in my basket before I keeled over. I'd been into town and had a zillion tasks to do, walked back up the hill to sainsbury's, popped in, fainted, had to walk back up the hill to my car parking space and load up.

At Tesco they took me to the staff room, made me a cup of tea, entertained DD, got me a sandwich [free] and beeeped my shopping through and packed it, had to pay for it [which I expected] and then they went and helped me out to the car and loaded my shopping in.

I'm now on the sofa with marmite toast and ovaltine. DD also had me up at 3am so I'm shattered. She won't even go down for a nap. I am shattered.

chocoloco12 · 26/10/2012 12:54

kelle that's terrible to just leave you in the aisle! Stick to tescos from now on! How old is DD? Hope you manage to get some rest at some point, poor you, on the up side you've got marmite on toast!(we have run out!!)

birdbrain17 · 26/10/2012 13:33

choco thanks for asking I'm feeling much better today. I think out of the whole day it's the first I've felt slightly normal!

mama thanks for keeping us updated I'm really thinking of you a lot. Christmas really isn't that long away those of us not stuck in hospital probably realise that more then you because of all the shops and adverts but just look around online it's really soon....

Anybody else driving DH crazy with food moods, I'm never in the mood for normal meals at normal times and last night I didn't want anything for supper apart from chips and we didn't have any, he was trying to suggest alternatives (there isn't anything if that's what you want that's what you want!) and eventually when I was nearly in tears he agreed to go shopping to find me some chips (while he had pasta...). I'm not having random cravings just once I've thought of something I'm not happy till I've eaten it!!!!Grin

kellestar · 26/10/2012 13:58

Birdbrain I know what you mean! I really really fancy a pizza from pizza hut, but nearest is in Bristol, at least an hour away Envy. Marmite on most things makes me happy.

choco she's 22 months of cheeky madam. Currently showing no signs of slowing down. DH will be home soon, he couldn't sleep without me warming him. Grin nice to know I have a purpose.

Sobbing while watching OBEM, the baby isn't even out yet. It's on Really 1-2pm, re-runs, but still great to watch.

kellestar · 26/10/2012 15:35

Really shouldn't watch man v food. Glazed donuts in a burger with bacon. I am drooling. This programe makes me hungry.

usernamegoeshere · 26/10/2012 15:37

Trying he might be a bit young still for this one but if he has a favourite teddy you can try teddy being unwell & letting your son think about how to make him better, & give the teddy some medicine.

Kelle I'm surprised you haven't switched to having your shopping delivered!

Anyone else with lower back ache? I have always been prone to it but it seems like every time I have a busy day now I end up aching & sore.

trying2bpos · 26/10/2012 15:52

Thanks for all the advice re: medicine delivery, I gave up using a spoon pretty quickly but now even the sight of the bottle and he's shaking his head, he took the first few doses fine. Now is howling like a banshee and I feel awful! Something nice after is a good idea but since he's not really eating or drinking much at the moment that will be tricky. Like the idea of ice lolly though kelle, hmm like the thought of having one myself too!

kelle I was thinking the very same as username getting it delivered could help. Is there a reason for the fainting that I've missed? You've had your bp checked and everything? I know some people get more prone to it when pg than others. Does snacking or sipping a sweet drink whilst shopping help at all?

birdbrain choco still don't think we'll find out and like your reasons for not finding out too.

kellestar · 26/10/2012 17:16

trying & username i think i might, it's literally a 2 minute drive, about half a mile really and I feel silly having it delivered but at least can use my bump as an excuse. I used to have deliveries until DD was 6 months.

Blood pressure is fine, no anameia. Just tired by the time I'm nearly done, DD drinks all my juice and ends up eating my snacks too just to keep her quiet :) The big shops in Frome have cafes (or maccyD) nearby so can stop for a snack before shopping.

lutrinae · 26/10/2012 19:11

Hullo,
Um, so I don't usually post on forums but I guess I'm feeling a little lonely as I don't really have any close friends who are pregnant or have babies. Am 16 weeks, due on 7th April.
(Anyone else similar and live in East London, incidentally?)

Can't say I've been enjoying pregnancy. Had pretty bad sickness and heartburn which are easing off a bit now (I hope!) Woke up this morning with a pain all down my left side. Oh the weirdness that becomes 'normal' in pregnancy!
Roll on 20 week scan.

So, I guess a big 'hello!' to all you April ladies.

From the girl who sits in her office eating pastries all day, and who her colleagues consequently probably think she has an eating problem.

Trishstar · 26/10/2012 19:42

Hi everyone just had my letter about the downs screening and it says our chances are not at increased risk and its a 1 in 20000 chance.

Very happy! It would have changed my mind about having this baby but I'm still relieved!

Xxxx

Mama1980 · 26/10/2012 20:05

Kellestar- you made me hungry with all your food talk! I've actually managed to eat a tuna sandwich!!!!!not very exciting but wow it feels good to have food stay in my stomach. Thank you!
Thanks everyone else and welcome to the newbies I will do a proper catch up tomorrow. Feeling much better today though. Smile

bext · 26/10/2012 20:11

Well done on the tuna sandwich mama Grin

And hi lutrinae. I'm not normally a big poster but in a similar situation. Lots of friends who have had kids but who are all a bit "been there done that" so it's nice to have other women who are as confused and bemused as us.
I'm south London and 13+3 so a bit behind you.

But I know what you mean about office eating - I got some very odd looks as I walked back from the microwave at 4pm yesterday with a big bowl of steamed broccoli!! (trying desperately to eat healthy stuff and weirdly actually wanting lots of green veg).

So welcome - we're all in the same boat Smile

EssexWelsh · 26/10/2012 23:36

Hi lutrinae exactly the same, nearly 17 weeks, due 6th April and I work in Walthamstow, live in Essex, so we can be East London buddies!

Good to have you in the gang Grin

Teapig · 27/10/2012 07:19

Welcome lutrinae. I moved out of east London to Essex recently, I have a lot of love for east London and still miss living there a bit but I work there just can't go out boozing like used to.

My stupid body clock woke me up at 6am, the time I usually wake up in the week. Having listened to DH's snoring for an hour I've given up on sleep and turned to a bit of MNetting.

Thinking of getting some maternity jeans today. Seems a bit early but none of my jeans fit. Any recommendations on under Vs over bump? Which is more comfortable? Do you have to be further along for over bump?

Mama1980 · 27/10/2012 07:35

Morning All no sleep here but otherwise good. Fingers crossed for another tuna sandwich today. Smile on the negative side I just saw myself in the mirror I look impressively awful! Nurse has promised she will help me wash my hair somehow- it's gonna be fun (not allowed a bath or shower) so wish us luck.
Teapig: with 1st pregnancy I found over bump much more comfortable (never got beyond 26 weeks though so not sure how they stretch later on) the ones that had soft elasticated material at the top were lovely. I think I got them from h and m last time but not sure. My brother that's also this bought me in some lovely thick leggings that come very high again from h and m they are heavenly. I seem to remember the tops from mother care were very good and you could wear them ages as they worked for Breast feeding as well. Enjoy your shopping!Grin

Giddypants · 27/10/2012 07:35

Morning ladies, we have snow!!!

I went out on a leaving doo last night, meal then drinks if you wanted, have just read on Facebook that people are only just getting in! Only stayed for the meal, veg lasagne it was yummy!
I must be getting old because I wasn't in the slightest interested about staying out especially with the artic wind.

I have 4 hours travelling ahead of me today, my uncle is getting married tomorrow.

Welcome lutrinae we're in Yorkshire but my mum was from London Norwood area, but not been there for years.

Mama1980 · 27/10/2012 07:37

Morning giddypants-snow!!! I'm in London so hoping it doesn't get this far down. I hate the cold. Hope you enjoyed your night out? Travel safe today x

Giddypants · 27/10/2012 08:18

Will do mama thank you x free wifi in the hotel so can keep upto date! Grin

LikeCandy · 27/10/2012 08:27

Good morning ladies!
Welcome lutrinae, I think you may be the 101st member of 'Team April'!
mama so good to hear you're feeling a bit better!
trishstar congrats on the results!
kelle treat yourself gently for a while! I think I'd have been shopping online after the first faint, let alone two!
Sorry if I missed anyone else's news, so much to catch up on!

This week I definitely have a decent bump, but I'm also still expanding more to the sides. I've lost the little bit of 'hour glass' shape I had, I'm straight up and down at the sides with a bump on the front!! Skin and hair still bad, and (I hope this isn't just me...) I seem to be getting rather hairy?! My head hair isn't getting any thicker that I can tell but my eyebrows/arms etc are looking rather luxuriant!
I can't wait to glow - at the moment I am still gross!

Have a lovely weekend all, keep warm!!

bext · 27/10/2012 08:31

teapig I got a pair from H&M last week. Over bump which feels a bit daft without a bump but they're so comfy. £25 skinny style (I've never fitted skinny jeans before)
Elastic waistbands rock! Grin

wishfulthinking1 · 27/10/2012 08:40

likecandy
I'm so glad you mentioned body hair. My eyebrows have gone haywire! Quite literally- they do look like a cross between hay and wire! And they've started growing up! I look like some sort of Neanderthal! (I may be exaggerating for effect- but they're seriously not themselves!!)

There's been a spate of fb pregnancy announcements over the half term week- it seems everyone I used to go to school with is having a baby!

How's anyone getting on feeling flutters? I'm pretty sure I haven't felt anything yet, but I've just had wind- mw said I've probably felt something, just didn't know it was the baby. I get occasional 'uncomfortable pinches' in the right place over the last few days - but wouldn't describe it as flutters. What about the rest of you?

itsaruddygame · 27/10/2012 10:19

Teapig - I second h&m over bump skinny jeans. Not much bump yet here but they are very comfy and a bargain price of £15!

Mama - glad you are doing ok today. Good luck with the hair - sounds like a mare trying to get that done! [hgrin]

I am off to a talk by Clare balding this afternoon - about her autobiography which I enjoyed reading. If u like horses, dogs and or reading about eccentric families I highly recommend it!!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 27/10/2012 10:36

I'm currently wearing maternity jeans my sister has given/lent me - currently Next under bump are most comfy and practical. I've only been in them for a week though!

Gosh I was so tired this morning, I slept til 10! [hsmile] I guess I did work 24 hours in 36! Fortunately I have a quiet Saturday planned. I may pop to Dunelm Mill to buy a new cross stitch. I'm so very rock'n'roll!

Ooh Clare Balding - bets that's interesting ruddygame, have fun!

Welcome to lutrainie

I'd be stupidly excited about snow. It's been 35 degrees here today and I am melting!
Trying - DS has medicine 3 times a day since he was a day old. We always use a syringe, and luckily he is awesome about taking it. Occasionally he plays up, and we find leaving it for half an hour, distracting him with something else, and then he takes it.
Mama - lovely news that you are having a boy! I often find myself thinking of you, it sounds like he is a fighter like you. Been there got the t-shirt for spending time in NICU, whilst its amazing the care they give to little ones, the trauma for parents can't be underestimated. If I'm honest, I'm not over it yet (I went back to the hospital where I had DS and got given his diagnosis and prognosis for antenatal appt, and walking in I couldn't stop shaking an I cried.

But what I wanted to announce is that I have finally got some Camembert and crusty bread and I'm looking forward to a feast! I'm trying to decide if I'll share it with DH or not....

17 weeks today.
