Guavas Have you asked the GP for anti-emetics? I was on them by this time the last time, they do help.

marimama · 28/11/2012 20:03

Ran out of polo-type mints at work & had to eat a chocolate bar. Oops. My boobs are still killlling, but i'm grateful to not yet feel as awful as some of you poor things. Hang in there!

Also can't believe those crazy commutes!! I do an hour each way, but can't imagine 2 hrs!! I think a work-from-home request is definitely in order!

I'm ready for bed at about 6pm each night now....so sleepy and no coffee to save me! I have class tonight until 10pm. Not sure how i'm going to keep my eyes open. But i'm busy building a baby, right?!?!

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 28/11/2012 20:32

Why no coffee? Daily limit is 300mg of caffeine, an average cup of coffee has 32mg.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 28/11/2012 20:35

Actually, according to google a cup of coffee is about 100. Confused In a redbull there is 82mg.

chocolateteabag · 28/11/2012 20:36

Up in the far North my 1 hour drive to work is considered excessive Grin I have much respect for everyone with longer commutes (obv also respect everyone with shorter ones but YKWIM) and I have swung 2 days working from home - although will be 3 this week due to floods on Monday

It is getting soo cold - stupid wood burner is not giving out any heat so sat here with the iPad keeping me warm brrrr

Supposed to be sorting out Christmas presents while DH cooks but just can't get motivated yet

elliejjtiny · 28/11/2012 20:58

Guavas I have the constant nausea thing too, I feel your pain. I find munching on cream crackers little and often helps a little. Actually been sick a couple of times a day. I've got some seabands but worried about wearing them as people will see them and know I am pregnant.

YikesHereWeGo · 28/11/2012 21:05

Totally with you all on the commuting malarkey. I usually have to stand for my train journey so I take a little fishermans stool with me these days. Today I found a corner on the grain to put my stool in but then someone came and stood right next to me so I whispered "do you mind if I put my stool up and sit down as I'm a bit tired as I'm pregnant?" (Not sure what made me say that - it just popped out!) Anyway, before I knew it, the lady standing next to me had blurted it out across the carriage and everyone looked at me and some bloke made a real fuss of letting me have his seat even though I said I didn't need it! It was very kind of him but I was so embarrassed. I'm only 5w6d today!! Felt like such a fraud & like everyone was thinking "what no bump?!" That'll learn me. Lol!

dinkystinky · 28/11/2012 21:09

Have been catching up on the posts before I joined the thread - am so so sorry for the losses on the thread.

Whoever is struggling with drinks - I second the very cold drinks suggestion. Alternatively you could try a splash of bottlegreen in water (v heavily diluted) which tastes good.

Yikes - am impressed at your foresight in taking your own stool!

specialknickers · 28/11/2012 21:24

Rancer please don't worry about your scan. I had my second scan today and I'm measuring 6 days behind my very accurate dates (was using a digital fertility monitor) and the consultant said that's totally fine. Last week, when I thought I was nearly 7 weeks we could only see an empty sac and I thought it was all over for us (again Sad) but today, we saw a foetus with a heart beat. I was amazed! It's all such an imprecise science. You could have ovulated late (ovulation calculators work out from exactly half way through your cycle I think), then conception could have happened a few days after that and then implantation could too. Try to keep an open mind (easier said than done I know).

wifey6 · 28/11/2012 21:32

special...that's great news about your scan Smile

Guavasforbreakfast · 28/11/2012 22:38

special what a relief that must have been after the first scan, made me a bit teary in my faint sick-induced state Smile

Thanks for permission to moan everyone. I assumed you only got anti-emetics if it was literally nothing staying down, will try at my mw appt on Friday as I've actually lost weight - surely it should be the other way around?!

Purplemonster · 28/11/2012 23:23

Hi all, having a rubbish week. Booking in appointment didn't go well as it turns out I need to move GPs so don't feel any further on as the midwife I saw was clearly disinterested since she's not keeping me. So still don't have a due date, no idea what I'm doing and now I have to go and register with a new GP and a whole new midwife service and this apparently can only be done in person (you need photo ID to register at a doctors, who knew?) during hours that I am at work. Brilliant. Not too fond of the NHS this week.

marimama · 29/11/2012 01:57

No coffee because i have one in the morning (won't give that one up), so i thought i couldn't have another. Though i guess to survive a late-night class every once in a while i could. If 300 is top limit, then maybe i shouldn't worry so much!!! :)

Cheeseandbread · 29/11/2012 04:21

Hello, please can I join? Flowers I'm new to mumsnet and am pregnant for the first time 6w+1 due date the doctor gave me is 22nd July.

I've been catching up on the thread and am very sorry to hear of recent losses.

No huge symptoms yet... A bit jealous of those of you who have them as I feel a bit of a fraud! I do have achy boobs and think they may be growing and have bloated tummy- but not much else. Oh and suffering from sleeplessness... Hence registering and posting on here at 4am. Anyone else suffering with sleep deprivation?

shelley72 · 29/11/2012 08:11

cheeseandbread i do - but thats because of my two wake up obscenely early Grin

was told by wifey6 to get myself over here so please may i join? had my booking appointment yesterday and so i'm now all official. due with DC3 on 9 july. sorry to hear of all the losses, have been there myself and so i know what a difficult time it is. hopefully fx you will be back v soon.

hoping we all have easy pregnancies and even easier births!!!

wifey6 · 29/11/2012 08:24

Welcome cheese & shelley.
Glad you decided to join us shelley.

Woken up in a bit of a panic that I have just over 2 weeks til I can have an early scan.
So anxious that all is ok Sad

orangebubbles · 29/11/2012 09:18

Morning all!

Welcome and congrat's newbies.

Big admiration to all of those doing the commute thing! I gave that up years ago (moved close to work) and now I am a SAHM, my commute is to the nursery from my bed!!

Someone else (sorry can't remember who) mentioned that like me they were feeling perpetually starving. If i don't eat I start feeling really sick and rather annoyingly the consumption of fruit is no longer staving it off! Anyway, Guavas and anyone else, I have discovered Marmite rice cakes, as tasty as a piece of cardboard can be, low in fat and makes me feel full and staves the sick feeling! If Marmite isn't your thing, there are organic apple flavoured ones to be found on the baby food aisle of most supermarkets.

purple why have you to reg at new GP's??? what a PITA!

Rancer I agree with special don't worry. with dd1 my dates were completely different to theirs, I ov really late in a cycle and it made a huge difference. I was also assured that at this early stage it's very easy to be out by days, either way.

yikes stool on a train?! Very organised but don't feel guilty about asking someone to give up their seat if needed. When you have a bump hopefully people will be gracious enough to offer you a seat

dinkystinky · 29/11/2012 09:29

Special - glad your scan went well.

Shelley - I'm also expecting DC3 - veering between thinking all will be fine and abject terror at what its going to be like.

Guavasforbreakfast · 29/11/2012 10:11

cheese I was feeling the same way a couple weeks ago, longing for 'proper' symptoms, I sympathise! Will also add that although the first day of nausea was reassuring, after nearly 2 weeks of it 24/7 I'm wishing myself back to where you are!!
People on their second/third/more please reassure us that there ARE some good parts to the nine months other than the baby at the other end ?!
Thanks for the rice cakes suggestion orange, will get dp to get some for me Grin

esme80 · 29/11/2012 10:35

Feel sorry for everyone with long commutes, dont think I could manage the train for hours with nausea! And the, erm, smells...

Guavas I feel the same. Wasnt this bad with DS, but did have some ms. Got much better at 12 weeks, which is 3 weeks away now. 3 weeks seems like a v looong time at the moment.

Midwife appointment today, finally something happening!

dinkystinky · 29/11/2012 10:51

Guava - the second trimester is much, much better than the first for so many people so just hang on in there. Take each day one at a time and do what you need to do in order to get through it.

On ricecakes - the yoghurt covered ones from Itsu are lovely (and give you some calcium too!)

I only have a 45 minute commute but it involves lots of being buffeted about by commuters on the bakerloo and central or circle line. Already dreading the later months of pregnancy...

dinkystinky · 29/11/2012 10:53

Wifey6 - please try not to worry about your early scan and do what you can to take your mind off it. Early pregnancy seems to be a time of such worry and anxiety for so many (and justifiably so in so many cases)

MightBeMad · 29/11/2012 11:13

Bleurrgh!! Will you lot please stop mentioning yoghurt! Blurry!! Wink

Welcome to he newbies nd congrats special on our scan news.

I'm madly counting down the days until mine! (8 to go!)

wifey6 · 29/11/2012 11:26

dinky...MW has got me an appointment tomorrow lunch time. I'm so worried Sad

MightBeMad · 29/11/2012 11:37

Wifey glad your me has arranged another scan. Hopefully that will put you mind at rest. Try and have an early night tonight - it will make the scan seem closer x
