Morning all!

Am much better today after eating for about six last night.
I did some googling and discovered that the size of this embryo is about 3 days behind average, and 5th centile. Which could easily be explained by a slightly slow implantation or the sonographer (who did not stop whittering) being less than accurate.
I am certain of my dates though, so it is't that. Am thinking of having another scan in a couple of weeks to check for growth. I think that would be better than getting a shock at my 12 week scan after christmas.

Am taking it easy today, slightly unwell tum and banging head so no work for me. I have been working very hard lately (12 hr days and some weekends) so figure a day of rest is in order!

Hope everyone else is well. It's a lot colder here today and my DDs are wishing for snow (which is not forecast). I'd rather like some too...

Grannyapple · 28/11/2012 10:01

Morning ladies!

Had my gp appt yesterday...all went well, did the whole weight, height, bp & wee sample...tho they didn't do that last time. Anyway, ball is rolling at least now..

Was 6 wks yesterday....and the nausea/retching had most definitely hit (esp when brushing my teeth..exact same as last time). But have discovered that my cravings this time are sausage rolls...big ones! Had to have some for dinner last night (with beans & chips of course!). Now got one on in the oven now...I'm literally starving & had my usual cereal & orange juice at 8am!!

Ds was up quite a bit last night so I only got about 3-4 hrs sleep so working from home today, but he's gone into nursery as normal..

But feeling shattered today...& read a stat last night...we might not get a normal nights sleep again for about 2 years from now Shock

Sorry to hear of those off the thread...fx you'll be back on these threads sooner than you think x

photographerlady · 28/11/2012 10:29

Wow granny surprised you can eat. My nausea is BAD :(

I can barely keep a ginger beer down without feeling worse and uncomfortable. I can't seem to find anything that's ok to eat, even crackers makes me bloated. Week 7 starts tomorrow and then my early scan on next Thursday. Need to look forward to something heehee.

OhGood · 28/11/2012 10:39

hi all - sorry to see there has been more sad news for people.

I have been lurking a bit as I am really struggling with work. Or rather with the commute. Because of the flooding, it's taken me 4 hours to get home two nights in a row. And like you granny my DD has been very bad at sleeping - and I have not even seen her except at 2 in the morning when she wakes up for a couple of hours of midnight play Hmm

I am seriously wondering if I should leave this contract now and try and find something easier and that I can do from home. Sitting on the train for hours every day is not making me any healthier, and there is lots of stress and deadlines. DH is starting a new job next week too and so will be much less available to help out. If I do leave now there is a piece of work I can do which will take me into Jan/Feb, and pays OK. Then after that I would need to find something else, and fast. But I really wonder if I should focus on myself, be around to enjoy my last few months with just me and DD, while I still have time and energy, and try to enjoy being pregnant (maybe for the very last time??) instead of just having months of being exhausted and stressed and unhealthy.

What do you think? Sorry, long post, but the decision is killing me!

I have booking-in appt on Friday and have booked an early scan on Monday.

Grannyapple · 28/11/2012 10:54

OhGood what a dilemma? I'm now beginning to feel the same about this being my last pg & spending as much time as poss with DS...but I've now just agreed to do extra days at work from January, but is only temporary til July (& they don't know I'm pg yet so luckily it should work out for me...I hope!). But 4 hotes commute is crazy! Can you not do bits at home over next week or 2 till it subsides, or perhaps agree to go into office only a few days a week, just to make your days easier?

What about when it comes to l

Grannyapple · 28/11/2012 10:56

Damn...posted before I finished!

What about when it comes to jan/feb time & you need more work....will there be plenty about? Do you mind if I ask what you do?
I guess it depends on the company/manager you eventually work for too...

OhGood · 28/11/2012 11:09

thanks for dilemma-sympathy granny! Even without flood, I am looking at a 5-hour round trip. I am hoping to get some more days from home, but there is no guarantee that will happen. They have been a bit negative about it. I didn;t bloody know I was pregnant when I signed on for this, otherwise I might not have!

I am a freelance writer working on a big public sector job. The work is vvv interesting, which makes it trickier...

And I just don't know what will be around in Jan/Feb. Argh, wonder if I should just be brave and go for it. Anyway, feel I am slightly hijacking the thread here, but anyone who has any thoughts please feel free to let me know!

dinkystinky · 28/11/2012 11:36

Hello all - Can I join? Am pregnant with DC3 (DS1 is 6, DS2 is 3 - I suspect this one will be a DS too as pregnancy feeling v similar to my previous ones). Found out I was pregnant on my birthday earlier this month but have been in denial for a bit (despite us trying for DC3 for well over a eyar. As my periods have been fairly erratic difficult to predict my due date (I suspect early/mid July) till my dating scan in mid December. No real symptoms here other than exhaustion and achy boobs - and suddenly having that look around my midriff that makes me look like I've eaten all the pies.

elliejjtiny · 28/11/2012 11:39

Are you in Somerset too OhGood? We have had a lot of flooding and powercuts here although seems to be calming down now.

dinkystinky · 28/11/2012 12:02

OhGood - if your pregnancy is progressing smoothly, you shoudl be fine with the 5 hour round trip - though cant say I envy you it! My SIL had a 4 hour round trip to work when she was pregnant with my niece and while knackered found it ok in early pregnancy but a real killer in late pregnancy (though she managed to swing working from home more days then). Do you need to be on site each day or is it merely their mindset that you need to be?

Persuasion · 28/11/2012 12:22

So sorry for all those who have had bad news this week, and fingers crossed for those still waiting to hear.

ohgood you're not hijacking, that's what the tread is for! It sounds pretty tricky. I have a 3 1/2hr round commute and although it is certainly possible it is almost killing me. Particularly bad nausea on the train home. I also seem to get spotting whenever I've had a particularly bad commute (eg yesterday standing all the way in to work), so don't think it's great even if it's not specifically harmful either. But the prospect of being jobless from January makes it much more complex for you!

I have my booking appointment next week, and just got my scan date through for christmas eve! It's at 10:30 and they say it may take a full hour, which with my commute means I'll miss essentially the whole day at work. Not sure how that will go down!

RancerDoo · 28/11/2012 13:19

Ohgood, if you think you might be prepared to quit anyway, would there be any harm in asking them if you can work from home a couple of days a week?
It may be they would rather accomodate you than irk you, and if they say no you haven't lost anything.

Welcome Dinky. I know that pie-eating look.

Just posted my self referral form off to the hospital. I loathe my GP and plan on managing this whole pregnancy without going there if I can!!

dinkystinky · 28/11/2012 13:45

Thanks RancerDoo. Self-referral this time round has been a revelation - with DS2 my referral from the GP got lost and had booking in and scan at 13 weeks plus a few days. This time round self referral by phone was great Grin Good luck avoiding the evil GP

Persuasion - any chance of taking the day off, and enjoying pootling round getting ready for christmas day after your scan, or will that go down even worse?

MightBeMad · 28/11/2012 14:13

So sorry to hear the news from those having the leave the thread. Be kind to yourselves and I hope you find yourselves back here soon.

I'm now 6+1 and very slight symptoms are starting to kick in but luckily I feel okay most of the time (was like this with me DD though and the worst bit was 12-16 weeks so i'm not holding my breath just yet!). Makes me a bit anxious that everything is going okay though so i've booked an early scan for Fri next week when I should be 7+3.

I also have a long ish commute (1.5-2 hrs each way). Oh Good, if you're feeling poorly have you tried asking for a seat? I don't mean in an 'I'm pregnant' way, but even a quiet, 'I'm really sorry but I'm not feeling very well I don't suppose anyone would be prepared to let me sit down' way? I think most commuters would rather stand that risk being thrown up on by someone standing over them!!

Fingers crossed for Rancer and teabag that things progress well for your next scans. It's an anxious time isn't it?

Camb79 · 28/11/2012 14:38

ohgood is there any way you can work from home at least while the weather is bad, thus setting a precedent for after you announce your news and they will see it worked during this period and so relieve you of the commute a.few days a week perhaps?

dinky I also found out on my birthday! And also feeling no symptoms except nervy ones like pains and cramps which I worry about. I have our scan on Friday and just really hoping its all ok. I do not feel remotely pregnant apart from said nervy stabs/darts/twinges infrequently.

I feel so much for those who have left due to horrible news. I hope they have a happier time of things as soon as they feel like trying.

mightbemad with my new gp dates I too am 6 +1 today! So, I do fertility friend and baby centre due date thingies, both say 25th, and the doctor with her little wheelie thing says July 23rd. Medical Professional over Internet, right?

MightBeMad · 28/11/2012 15:28

Camb do you have an idea when you ovulated? You can calculate it yourself that way. FWIW I think I'm due on 23rd ish. Though I may not get that far as I had suspected cholestasis in my last pg so if I get it again I may be induced early. We'll see...

TheOnlyPersonInTheRoom · 28/11/2012 15:58

I'm late to the party but wanted to say hello! Due July 5th, I'm not even 9 weeks yet but everyone at work has guessed already. I guess my stomach muscles must be totally wrecked as I look about the same as I did at 6months with DD.

Hoping to do the big reveal at Xmas, but am up seeing family at the weekend, any tips for not looking too pg and staving off my tactless MIL's questions?

BooStar · 28/11/2012 16:01

So sorry to those with sad news. Nature is a b*tch.

I'm really pleased the polo advice is working out for some of you. For the first time I've had to reach for them today!! Just a few waves of nausea here and there but after my previous MMC I'm clinging onto any symptoms! Although its not best timing to start feeling poo, we're off to a friends 40th tonight and it's the first time that DH & I have stayed away over night together since DS was born over 2 yrs ago!! I'm excited and nervous and fully expecting to get busted. I can just about fool on the drinking front but I've always been an only on special occasions smoker, particularly with this friend. There's no way they'll believe that I've given up for any other reason than pregnancy!

Still haven't phoned the GP - got this stupid thought in my head that its tempting fate. When do they do the booking in normally? Is about 9wks?

elliejjtiny · 28/11/2012 16:58

So sorry to those of you who have had bad news.

Boostar My booking in appointments have been 10 weeks, 9 weeks, 9 weeks, 14 weeks, didn't get that far but would have been 15 weeks. I'm 9 weeks 2 days now and no booking in appointment booked yet.

I can't remember who it was who was struggling with drinks but have you tried adding lots of ice? When I was pg with DS2 I drank a lot of drinks from mcdonalds etc before I realised it was the coldness I was enjoying.

OhGood · 28/11/2012 17:01

elliejjtiny no, not Somerset - sounds way worse where you are. I love Somerset btw, got married in Goudhurst.

Thanks all for advice though I slightly wish you had all said to quit and do lovely work from home I will wait until I have had scan then ask again for work from home.

mightbemad I feel for you. Commuting just is a hundred times worse when you can smell other people's hair due to new pg super-sense-of-smell. Ew ew ew.

Welcome onlyperson - I am very relieved to hear from anyone who says that they are looking 6 months pg as I certainly feel that way. Cannot do up my jeans. Too sick to eat though, which is helpful, in the way that getting food poisoning on holiday is helpful.

SchroSawMummyRidingSantaClaus · 28/11/2012 17:43

Hey, this thread started to move quickly!

I am so sorry to everyone who has had bad news. :(

Guavasforbreakfast · 28/11/2012 18:09

Commuting sounds rubbish. I'm only a 10 min bus journey from work and still feel grim. Still not been sick at work but keep being very close. Nauseous quite literally all day. Have told my TA so that she can cover for me if i suddenly have to run out of the classroom...
Having to take the day off work tomorrow as everyone's pointing out how ill I look and that I need to rest and 'kick the illness'. Seriously hoping next week's better as I don't know how long I can legitimately pass it off as a lingering virus!
No one told me it would be this grim!!!

Guavasforbreakfast · 28/11/2012 18:09

Sorry for the moan.

OhGood · 28/11/2012 18:21

guavas please moan away. Makes me feel better about moaning, for one! And I think lots on here will empathise. It sounds like you are having a really grim time. And it IS grim feeling that ill all the time. How far along are you? If all goes to plan, this should magically lift by 12 weeksish. Last time around, mine ended about 14 weeks, with only a couple of days of feeling grim every now and then after that.

I am just thinking 'This will pass, this will pass', and actually that's a mantra for so much of this baby business. It's not easy, is it?

thinkingpositivethoughts · 28/11/2012 18:32

guava you're welcome to moan as much as you like. If you were that ill for this long and not preggers you'd probably be off to hospital not soldiering on so we have every right to feel a bit fed up!

I'm still in the thank god for symptoms phase, although the nausea has definitely stepped up this week.

I'm trying to get one of those bump on board badges from transport for London to guilt people into giving up a seat. I'll just have to take it off before I get to work so I'm not rumbled.
