Sorry for the not very imaginative title. Noticed old thread was full and couldn't find a new one.

Hi everyone. I'm too feeling the cold and ligament pains started again this week (had them early on). I'm 12 weeks today woohoo!! Scan is tomorrow. I think there are a few of us with scans tomorrow. Exciting and nerve wrecking all at the same time! This is my first day of feeling energetic or I've got a burst o energy from knowing what's happening tomorrow! Even my boss has noticed my burst of energy Grin

jenpenod · 06/11/2012 13:36

Haven't posted in SO long due to spending the last few weeks in and out of hospital in hyperemesis hell....but I've been reading the thread as much as possible and it's managed to cheer me up in some of my darkest moments. Hope it's ok for me to join in again now...

Had my 12 week scan today and it was great! Seeing the baby leaping, kicking, turning etc. really helped put the last 7/8 weeks of constant vomiting in context. I don't want to get my hopes up but I've felt a tiny bit better the last couple of days so maybe it's subsiding Grin

Like a lot of you, I'm also freezing my @ss off and spend all of my time under a blanket like a Granny. Feel a bit sorry for DH as I know this isn't an attractive look...but then he's had to listen to the vomiting for weeks and weeks so blankets are probably the least of his worries.

Beaver I sneezed in bed the other night and it set off major pains in the area where the baby is living. Scary! Could see from the scan today that it hasn't caused any problems. I forget how well insulated they are in there!

Kittykatmacbill · 06/11/2012 15:17

Hello all, sorry just been lurking for a couple of weeks, felt rubbish I too have been really cold and pretty much living wrapped up in blanket, exept when I have been at work where I have been really queasy...

But today finally finally had our scan, and I actually really pregnant with an actual (extremely figety) baby! Huzzzah and hurray. Can finally tell parents etc.

Grin
peardrop2 · 06/11/2012 15:47

Yay Kitty hope you enjoyed the experience! Did they change your EDD?

Kittykatmacbill · 06/11/2012 16:11

Well the sonographer wasnt massively chatty, but this may have been that my bladder was too full, the baby was actually bouncing and my dh (doctor) was playing a single person I-spy game on the babies Neuro-antatomy...
And yes we had calculated due date day perfect!
Ps - I am not a doctor and he does specialise in any thing helpful at all...

3rdtimelucky73 · 06/11/2012 17:40

Hi all,

I have been mostly lurking on here, but had my dating scan today and immensely relieved.....

EDD 14th May - exactly 13 weeks today - wriggler inside!

I know there were a couple of others with scans today KateSav and....

Will add myself to the stat thread :)

couldthisbeit · 06/11/2012 17:44

sparklyboots your post really sums how I am feeling up, couldn't have explained the myriad of feelings running through me any better. Your annual leave arrangements do sound like they could disadvantage you, and us pregnant ladies ae proected from being disadvantaged so definitely worth expolring with HR.
maybeamaybaby i think you are right about the toddler factor this time around, exhausted doesn't begin to describe how I feel about 5 minutes after getting up from an 8 hour sleep! My sickness is completely different this time around, more the threat of being sick than last time where I struggled to keep meals down.
This thread is a real craving sparker, I am obsessed with M&S mini cheese and onion rolls, warmed untl soggy in the microwave! As they are mini, it is ok to have 6 3 at a time right?!?
picklep I confess I have only managed to move from mooing to medium rare for my steak, only from a butcher or a trusted restaurant and as a rare treat but as with with my last pregnancy I am wanting far more red meat than I would usually eat.

This thread move so fast, I know I have missed loads but I hope recent and upcoming scans are going well.

babygeek · 06/11/2012 18:09

Hi all,
Had my dating scan today, woohoo! Seems I do have a baby in there, not just lots of cake Grin, DP currently scanning in our pics to be sent out to family and close friends. We have a wriggly wee one, constantly moving around, sucking its thumb, kicking legs out, looks like it might be mischief! Also, it looks to be healthy so that is a big relief. It's great to hear everyone's scan news.

I have also had my Granny blanket on today while working from home, soo cold. I am still having rubbish days where I feel crap but at least now it is interspersed with some good days.

Picklep I am with you on the non-alcoholic Becks, they are quite tasty. We now have some decaf tea in at work, chai latte and hot chocolate for the Tassimo as well as numerous fruit teas so I am spoilt for choice in the non-caffienated hot drinks department.

I am going to try work up to the beginning of May. Not ideal but I need to maximise my maternity leave and holidays as DP is currently re-training at Uni so we only have my income. Work has already mentioned working from home so I will try to take advantage of this as I get bigger and just see how it goes really. Plan is to then go back part-time after 6 months and DP can help with childcare which is a great opportunity for him to be more involved (e.g. change nappies, do the washing, etc... mwahaha).

MammaBrussels · 06/11/2012 18:39

Hello everyone. I've been on holiday and am trying to catch up with the thread. Suffering with dreadful mouth ulcers - at least the nausea has stopped though. Smile

shelly81 · 06/11/2012 18:58

Scan tomoz so scared :-( its at 8.40 in the mornin tho so at least a don't av to wait all day xxx

LittlePickleHead · 06/11/2012 20:11

Hi all, been away for a while as had a weekend of no phone signal in the countryside with my entire family - which was lovely as I was waited on hand and foot!

I'm feeling a bit worried about work this week. I joined the company when it was very small (6 people, only 4 of which work in the UK) but under the knowledge it was in the process of being bought out by a larger (american owned) company. I have told my immediate team, but not the wider company yet. It's very male centric, and there isn't even a proper HR department (the office manager also handles this role). they have not every had anyone go on mat leave before.

Anyway I'm definitely showing now, so I mentioned to my boss that I was going to tell the company before they started gossiping about it anyway. She asked me to wait until next week when my other boss is back, as she thinks the company will take it badly and they will have to have discussions about what to do.

I'm really nervous about it all now. I know we are protected by law, but that doesn't mean that all companies actually take any notice of it. I really love my job, but I can totally see her point about their likely reaction (they are treating her fairly shoddily).

Anyway, if anyone does have any knowledge around this area then I'd be really grateful for advice! My very wise friend has said to keep all emails and to record any conversations just in case, but I have a feeling I'm going to really have to stick up for myself here...

lollypopsicle · 06/11/2012 20:48

Picklep I had a pink steak for dinner on Saturday. I don't usually like steak but I really wanted it! It wasn't rare and was cooked but rather pink. I have worried a bit since about toxoplasmosis but hey, I avoided everything you should do last time and contracted salmonella from beansprouts of all things.

Another vote for Becks Blue. I've found it to be the closest taste to the real thing that I've found. I'm jealous of you Belgian girls with lovely sounding fruity non-alco beers to choose from Envy

Last thing. A couple of pages back someone asked about pregnancy yoga. I did it last time and really enjoyed it. It was relaxing and energising at the same time. Used a lot of the moves to relieve pelvic pain at home and also got some good tips to cope in labour. I've done other forms of yoga too and the pg classes are very low impact. I'd recommend it! Did mother and baby yoga when he was born too Grin

Ellypoo · 06/11/2012 20:48

Hi little - will help as much as I can - am in charge of the HR at work, so know a bit about maternity leave/rights etc. Also, if you do have any specific queries, then the Employment Issues section on here can be really helpful (I often lurk around there!!). gov.uk also has a lot of info about the statutory minimum requirements.

Definitely keep records and try to get as much in writing (emails etc) as you can.

Ellypoo · 06/11/2012 20:52

pickle, I absolutely love rare/blue steak and have managed to have it medium cooked - just can't bear it to be ruined cooked any more than that!!

I have found Becks Blue to be the best tasting non-alcoholic 'beer', although I can't stomach it at the moment, or the smell of red wine :(

TerracottaPie · 06/11/2012 20:57

LittleP DP is the HR manager of his company so here for help too just in case. Second reading up on gov.uk (and the rest of what elly said). Best to know and understand what your rights are before any possible problems arise with your other boss and the company.

LittlePickleHead · 06/11/2012 21:28

Thanks Elly and Terracotta. I'm pretty well versed in what my rights are, I suppose it's more the worry of the fact they may not adhere to them. I have seen this in previous companies I've worked in, but with other people. Yes, they all got big payouts as the company was absolutely in the wrong, but at the same time I know it was stressful for them to have to go through that, and also, I love my job and will be gutted if it goes that way! I suppose I just don't really feel 'safe' there, in an environment where me being off for 9 months (the plan) will be seen as a pain in the arse rather than an eventually that a company should accept and deal with.

Anyway hopefully I'm being over cautious and it will all be fine - time will tell!

scooby26 · 06/11/2012 22:58

Annoyed.com ;-)

To those chatting about maternity leave plans I had hoped to have 12 mths off. Last time I applied to my mortgage and went interest only at 3 mths pregnant and what we saved until I went onto smp paid the mortgage for the period I was smp til I went back. I do have a big pension pot so I wasn't asking just for interest only and never paying if back. I then returned to repayment after 18 mths which was the plan. So we have asked to do that again- now I know the banking world has changed in last two years but we still have the big pension pot to reassure them and would happily sign to say just for 18 mths but they have said no. So I've asked to borrow 5 k and extend my term ( overpaid earlier so 4 yrs ahead ) back to original. Been told as I'll b going on maternity leave next year they wont consider any of my 40k plus earnings ' in case I won't return''. And that DH salary not enough. She did confirm that if I wasn't pregnant we In theory could borrow tens '000s more based on salary and affordability!

Blatant discrimination- especially since a- I get full pay for 5 mths and b- even if I took another 5 mths at smp I'd still have far more than her zero quoted salary in 2013 in case I don't go back'!!

My DH could more likely be run over by a bus than me not go back to work so does that mean he can't have a mortgage either!?!

Ive filed a complaint but can take up to 8 weeks and even if upheld I'm sure they will then claim affordability to get out of doing anything. So annoyed !

So I'd like a year, but Santander are telling me I have to go back after 5 mths! Thatll work well- both me and DH working shifts with a toddler and 4.5 mth old...Hmmm. I've never missed a payment and have plenty equity and even 4 years ahead of mortgage due to overpayments- is that fair?!

Hmmmmmm

Anyway- pleased for all good scan news.

Littlepickle- try not to worry j know it's hard. Last time I was pregnant I got an email from boss saying ' congrats but what a headache for the rest of us!' Theres defo some idiots out there so stick to your guns and you'll be fine ;-)

BeauticianNotMagician · 07/11/2012 07:30

Morning all

I am feeling a little worried having read everyone elses scan news. You all seem to have little wrigglers in there and my baby was pretty much still for both of my scans.Do you think this could mean somethings wrong?

I am absolutely exhausted already.I am not enjoying going to work at all.I think i am going to start my maternity leave 3 weeks before due date.I had DS1 the day before due date and DS2 day after due date.

MammaBrussels · 07/11/2012 07:47

Beautician, I'm sure if there was something wrong the sonographer would have said something and called for a second opinion. Mine was still for most of the time during my scans. I'd imagine they sleep a lot of the time, they have lots of room in there so wouldn't wake up unless prodded by the scanner. If you're worried speak to your midwife - it won't be the first time she's heard this! Brew

rachywhite83 · 07/11/2012 08:17

beautician my baby was still. Had an awful scan experience and have complained to the hospital about it so that's made it even worse. Never mind only 8 weeks till the next one Sad

BeauticianNotMagician · 07/11/2012 08:24

Rachy Sorry you had a horrible scan experience. When is your next one? Will you be having any private ones.

I know im being silly. Its just this pregnancy is so different from my other 2 i can't help but keep worrying.I should be used to it all by now.The DS's wriggled loads on their scans.I am going to have an extra private 4d scan after my 20 week one more to confirm the sex as i don't want to hit the sales buying a load of blue or vice versa and then realise they got it wrong.

seven77 · 07/11/2012 08:41

The Sauvignon was disappointing, will definitely be sticking to non-alcohol lager!

beaut I'm sure all is fine, I read in my book they sleep around 20 hours a day, I think they're often just wriggly for scans because pressure on the belly wakes them, obviously at this stage they're still quite buried in there!

Our's was very still during the scan as well - I'm sure it is nothing to worry about. The sonographer made me bounce around to try and get him/her to move in order to get the measurements and that only resulted in a little stretch and a quick wave and then back to sleep. I hoping it's a sign of good sleeping and chilled character!

leanabh2013 · 07/11/2012 10:10

Hey Beautician, I'll be 11 weeks today, and have ended up having two scans so far, for a variety of reasons. Mine too is a lazy wee so and so, I THINK it might have twitched a hand at me yesterday, but can't be sure! Is a relief to see here how many people are saying the same thing: I was worried too, especially after hearing about how my friend's child was bouncing about at the early scan. I think we'll all be fine though, and hopefully the bump will be as sleep loving after birth as it is just now!
