Sorry for the not very imaginative title. Noticed old thread was full and couldn't find a new one.

OP posts:

jimbles I had to tell my boss the other week that when I come back from maternity leave soon I will be 15 weeks pregnant Grin.

She took it well and was quite pleased for me.

Whether my colleagues will be quite as pleased when I tell them that I'll only be returning for about 6 months and then be off for another year I don't know! That's the part I'm dreading really.

Just bite the bullet! It'll be fine :)

jimblejambles · 03/11/2012 11:19

Wow terracottapie Grin
Think I will tell him on Monday then run away.

ng1412 · 03/11/2012 11:19

Hello all, checking in again as had scan last night and all well despite me fearing the worst having had 2 mc before. Baby was kicking about, gyne doing scan said he had the most advanced scanner and it was indeed excellent, he switched to 3d mode half way through and we saw so much detail plus he gave us loads of photos. So happy.

He also measured the neck fold which was within normal range but that of course is just one part of the nuchal test. He has advised us to have a CVS as I am an old bird (42).

We are in France and have private health insurance by the way, I will be consultant led as I was with my DD 2 years ago in the UK. Will be interesting to compare systems.

So lovely to read all the great scan news from everyone, I still feel a bit sick and am knackered but hoping this passes very soon, as do we all I am sure!

11+5

MyFriendGoo · 03/11/2012 11:30

jimblejambles I have really been worrying about this too! I've only just started a new job and the team are under a lot of pressure. It's going to go down really badly. Got 10 days til my scan and keeping quiet til then. Interested to hear anyone else's experiences in a challenging work environment?

Congrats on scan news ng1412!

wilderumpus · 03/11/2012 11:31

we are such an international thread! America, singapore, france, sweden IIRC... anyone else?! I love it :)

congrats on scans. marvellous news!

I had my flu jab this morning. made me feel all pg having my special pregnant jab :)

Well my rock and roll evening started with my favourite thai soup and ended up with me in bed and asleep at 9.30 :) thank goodness i can't drink wine or lord knows what time I would have been asleep - 7?!

marmite gives me heartburn. booo!

not telling work am pg for ages! Is only uni though they would need to know so I am not doing my viva when I am about to pop Grin working all weekend. double boo.

hope you ok today rt

Wirrawoo · 03/11/2012 14:27

Ok back from scan. Baby is in there, heart beating, brain all fine. Can see a nose and legs and hands, freaky!
The sonographer was really unfriendly and we had to get scanned 4 times in 3 hours. First time got in trouble for bladder not full enough, 2nd time bladder too full, then she told me to go and empty my bladder by 3 quarters. Not half, she emphasised grumpily... 3 quarters. Don't know about you ladies but I'm not tuned into my bladder enough to be that specific so I guesstimated and finally got a positive comment from her, but then complained that the baby was curled up so she couldn't see the nuchal fold. She only turned the screen around to us once, wouldn't let us take a picture on our mobile, and I had to ask her questions rather than telling us anything. A bit of a downer basically. After waiting another 30 minutes we tried again and this time bubs was stretched out and ready to be measured (although she complained about my bladder again). Then told us the NT was 4.1mm so we will have to see a consultant and hustled us out of the room. I was pretty shell shocked and when chatting to the midwife for my flu jab straight after, ended up bursting into tears when I mentioned it. First hormonal teary moment of the pregnancy! The midwife was the polar opposite of our scan experience and was brilliant. She made me drink a cup of tea, went and got my boyfriend from the waiting room and sat with us for ages reassuring us that it really wasn't anything to worry about and explained things thoroughly to us. She was furious with the sonographer, saying it was the 2nd person that day that had spoken of a bad experience with her, said she had no people skills and would make a formal internal complaint about her (and advised us to complain as well). Am so glad we opted to get the flu jab then and had such a lovely midwife there, she really made me feel better.
So RTchoke I sympathise! If it helps at all I was reassured and told not to worry too much, that it's just one thing in a whole host of factors to take into account and the actual risk may turn out to be low anyway. Big hugs to you too though!
All in all think I need a cup of decaf tea and some chill out time now!

Ooh and I was further along than they thought. Have recalculated me to be 14 weeks so new due date is may 4th.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 03/11/2012 15:46

Oh Wirrawoo that's horrible. It's such a special, emotional moment going for you scan and that miserable woman ruined it for you. :(

When I had my scan there was a seperate screen for the parents, so I could see the baby the whole time. And I didn't know anything about having a full bladder and was still peeing every 5 minutes but she never moaned. Took about 45 minutes of scanning for her to get the measurements, but she just kept trying and getting me to shake about a bit.

Ellypoo · 03/11/2012 16:13

Sorry you had a horrid sonographer wirrawoo, it's worrying enough without having to deal with someone like that, glad that the MW after was nice though.

I told my boss about 5 weeks ago because I wasn't able to go to a work event due to the pg, so needed to explain - he was lovely about it. Told my other colleagues after my scan, and they were lovely too, especially due to my history.

terra, we have a lady on maternity leave at the moment who is pg again - she will only be back in work for 3 weeks between maternity leaves because of accrued holidays etc, so I wouldn't worry too much about it!!!

How is everyone else feeling? I think I am starting to get PGP again, so think I'll make an appointment with an osteopath - can't cope with this again, especially not for 6 months - was bad enough for 7 weeks last time!!

seven77 · 03/11/2012 16:46

Aw wirra sorry the sonographer was horrible, glad that the MW will make a complaint. I agree with flamin, for most people the 12 week scan is the first time you see the baby, and I think the point when the pregnancy becomes 'real', to have it ruined is pants.

wilde glad I'm not the only one asleep by 9:30 :o

elly sorry the PGP is starting already, hope you see an improvement after you've seen the osteopath.

couldthisbeit · 03/11/2012 17:30

Hi ladies can I join you? I am 13+3 with dc2. Had 4 mc before ds1 arrived last June so a bit nervous still. Feeling brave enough to join after our scan went well on Tuesday.
Is anyone else on dc2 and having a very different pg so far?

RTchoke · 03/11/2012 17:32

Oh Wirra what a horrid scan experience. It's bad enough getting a worrying nuchal measurement but to have it delivered by such a cow is terrible. We were blessed with the nicest man in the world who showed us everything and after the scan was finished and I'd had my bloods done and seen the consultant (sonlike an hour later) the monographer saw we in the corridor and said his latest appt hadn't turned up so he was free and would I like to have another scan to look more carefully and reassure me. Basically he was a total star.

When do your bloods come back so you can get your risk assessment? I don't know where you are based but if it's London I can recommend an amazing private clinic that uses latest scanning tech to check all sorts and reassure you. It's meant to be the best in the UK (said my NHS consultant) and we are going next week (we went after my bad nuchal with DC2 and the private scan took my risk from 1 in 45 to 1 in 5500).

Wirrawoo · 03/11/2012 18:01

RTchoke ooh that would be great actually, thanks. I am based in North London and am feeling a bit pants after today's experience, so would welcome a really thorough scan and another chance to see it in a friendlier environment. Am thinking we might get a private 3D scan at some point later on in the pg.

Thanks so much ladies for your posts, you've really cheered me up! Thanks My mum came over for a therapeutic cup of tea and we spent hours looking up baby stuff online :) so feeling not so wobbly now.

elly sorry to hear about your PGP. Don't know how you feel about acupuncture, but I've had some for various occupational injuries and strains and it has helped a lot in the past (in addition to osteo etc). Important to find a good practioner though of course.

Wirrawoo · 03/11/2012 18:15

Sorry RTchoke forgot to say that we were told 10 days for blood test results.

Welcome couldthisbeit :) congrats on your pregnancy! Sorry to hear you had a rough ride in the past. Wishing you all the best.

seven77 · 03/11/2012 18:18

RT that's a rather large difference of odds! Completely understand why you want to go again this time.

Glad you're feeling a bit better now wirra, nothing helps more than baby shopping, real or virtual!

Hi couldthis, sorry to hear of your previous mc's. In what way is this pregnancy different to your previous one. There's a seperate May 2013 stats thread in ante-natal clubs if you want to add yourself on there.

seven77 · 03/11/2012 18:19

In non-pregnancy news DD took her first step today! :o

RTchoke · 03/11/2012 18:20

It's the Fetal Medicine Centre on Harley St. It's run by a man called Prifessor Nicolaides who is world renowned, he invented the nuchal scan and has pioneered loads of other prenatal testing. For £180 they do a nuchal with amazing machines where you see every detail (they even turn on the 3D for a bit but at this stage it's all a bit too much like an alien in 3D!). They measure lots of stuff that the NHS doesn't check many of which are proven indicators of Downs and other disorders. For example Downs babies often only have 1 joint in their little finger so they check for 2, they check the curvature of the face, various heart valves. A special artery in the baby's liver and more. They then give you a revised risk. Also if you want an amnio they have the lowest miscarriage rate (although it's pricey). If you call on Monday they might get you in within 24 hours.

RTchoke · 03/11/2012 18:22

Sorry Seven, cross posted, good on your DD!

LittleBairn · 03/11/2012 19:17

My old bosses used Professor Nicolaides too they spoke so highly of him ( their baby had many worrying scans) and he very politely called them up to thank them for a gift. I spoke to him (only one at home) and when he realised I was the babies nanny, he was genuinely keen to hear how he was getting on and delighted that he was doing well.
If I was to have any worrying scans I wouldn't hesitate I'd go straight to his practice.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 03/11/2012 19:52

couldthisbeit this is DC2 for me and is a very different experience to DD1. But then DD1 was 20 years ago Shock. This time the overriding experience is being completely and utterly knackered. The only saving grace is that I don't work so can lounge about as much as I need. I don't know how those who are working get through the day.

13+5

couldthisbeit · 03/11/2012 21:53

Thank you for the welcomes, I have added myself to the stats thread, there are a lot of May babies on the way!
My pregnancy symptoms have been very differnt so far, sickness starts mid morning and lasts until bed and I can eat most things whereas with my son I lived on pink lady apples and cheese sandwiches exclusively from week 10-17. Am convincing myself it means this one is a pink one and just wondered if anyone else was experiencing differences or if your pregnancys followed the same pattern.
wirra sorry to read of your experience and hope the sonographer gets some much needed feedback!

DizziDoll · 03/11/2012 23:06

I had a scan with prof Nicolaides after a higher than average nuchal fold with Dc2. They tested all sort with a specific focus on the heart. The risk went down a lot after and DS is kinda 'normal'.

Picklep · 04/11/2012 08:24

Wirra what a crap experience with the sonographer, thank god you had your appt with the mw afterwards to help put things into perspective. You should make a complaint about that woman - dreadful that she should be able to dampen what should be a really lovely moment for new parents. Dr Nicolaides sounds great - would def make an appt with him in your shoes.

All our friends now know and it's been lovely to hear from people and last night had someone rub my belly for the first time (my bestie and I gave her permission!), felt like a real pregnant person!

Feeling OK at moment, finding it difficult to sleep, not sure why it's just a disturbed sleep and very vivid dreams. Also am very snotty - always blowing my nose and constantly trying to clear frog in throat! Is this a cold or is this pregnancy, who knows????

Hope you all have a nice Sunday planned.

BeauticianNotMagician · 04/11/2012 09:59

Wirrawoo Sorry you had such a horrid experience.I hope you have made a complaint.

Couldthis Welcome.I am pregnant with dc3.Ds1 and 2 were identical pregnancies. With them i had sickness, sausage roll/pork pie all savoury cravings, heartburn and acne. They are only 17 months apart.
With this pregnancy 6 years later i have sweet cravings, constant hunger,no sickness so far, great skin and extreme tiredness. So a very different experience for me.

Hope eceryone is starting to feel a little better now.I have a cold/cough.Poor baby i must make it jump every time i cough.

lollypopsicle · 04/11/2012 14:07

Hello everyone.
I've not posted for a few weeks as I have been suffering quite badly with the morning sickness and tiredness but have been keeping up with all yourgoss and enjoying reading how everyone is getting on. Great to see the scans all going so well, sorry to those of you that have had a less than magical experience. My scan is on Friday when I believe I will be 12 weeks exactly. We decided not to have an early scan so really rather apprehensive. I keep telling myself that feeling as crap as I do must mean things are going accordingly. Also, I have a definite bump so if I'm not pregnant then I want to know what the hell it is that's wrong with me!! Grin

The whole bump thing is a bit of a worry re telling work, really. I don't want to do that until after the scan but I have 3 days of work to hide it until I can let it all hang out (so to speak!). In addition to the bump, I feel all round fatter :( Even my mum admitted that my waist has gone. Booooo. Body changes seem to be occurring a lot earlier this time round to last time. Wishing I'd done more stomach toning before getting pg again!

could On the subject of whether this pg is different to the first. I have been quite surprised at the differences. Much sicker, different cravings, I look fatter. Last time I was all bump, like I was smuggling a beach ball. looking more spread so far...so girl maybe??? who knows.

Bunnychan · 04/11/2012 15:39

lolly I'm exactly the same as you; my scan is on friday, I will be 12 exactly and I have four more days of hiding. Found myself wearing really baggy clothes and the same three outfits over and over again. I can't wait to wear tighter clothes and not have to be paranoid. All my clothes are tight now but I refuse to buy any more until after the scan. Instead, I wear my fiances clothes at home lol x
