We only have a bath but I have to lay on my side or I can't breathe Hmm

ISpyPumpkinPie · 25/10/2012 19:15

Congratulations Honey Thanks.

MyDaydream · 25/10/2012 19:25

We have a bath but it sends me to sleep so don't spend too much time in there. It's also apparently where out carpet cleaner lives since its been in there for 2 weeks now and every time I ask DP what he's doing with it I get told he'll sort it, it's too heavy/bulky for me to do.
I've just spent 2 hours turning out dumping room into a guest bedroom. Now it's lovely looking, but I'm very temped to close my eyes for 5 minutes on the bed.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 25/10/2012 19:41

Right I'm almost packed. 12 hrs and I'll be on the way to the airport! Kids are asleep and very excited!

Mummycox · 25/10/2012 19:48

AlisonDB · 25/10/2012 20:17

Stacey, hope you have a wonderful holiday! (Where are you going, somewhere warm and sunny I hope)
Hopefully you can relax a bit and de stress :-)

HoneyMum21 · 25/10/2012 20:56

Hello everyone. Thanks for all your messages and thoughts. I apologise in advance for the possible length of this post but here are the details-

Was admitted yesterday afternoon for observation as was 2cm dilated. Nothing much happened in the evening apart from a few twinges so DH went home for the night (20 mins by car away, he doesn't drive). Just before midnight felt a kind of pop and had some clear fluid leaking but midwife didn't think it was much to worry about. When I told her about pains as tightenings still being there she put the trace on bump and came back to check after an hour. When I told her the pains were getting worse she tutted, said I probably had an irritable uterus but she supposed she'd get the doctor along. 45 mins later Dr came but light was bad in my cubicle so couldn't decide if I was further dilated buy guessed prob not. Cue 2 hours of me in a lot of pain wondering of this wasn't labour how bloody painful was labour gonna be? I was bracing on the bed and the works. Eventually original midwife went on break so pressed call button and got the one covering her who quickly got the dr plus consultant back and decided I was 4-5 cm. Rushed through to delivery suite and called a panicked DH who woke my mother and sprinted the mile to her house to get a lift over.
Meanwhile lovely midwife on delivery suite offered me painkillers and we decided to start at the bottom and work up so got on the gas and air which proved to do absolutely bugger all in the time I was sucking away hoping it would start to do something. DH arrived and fairly quickly we decided to try the next stage up and was offered either pethidine or diamorphine to which I responded along the lines of- I don't bloody know, you're supposed to tell me what's best. Had pethidine and proceeded to be fairly sick. Couldn't keep trace going on LO as I was moving about too much so they said they might have to put clips on his head. Without examining me they guessed I would be about 5cm and I guessed that with that much pain at that there wasn't a chance of getting by without the epidural. Examined me before calling anaesthetist and I was 9cm so too far for epidural but u figured at that stage I could cope with that level of pain knowing that was about as bad as it got. Then LO decided to change his mind and stop trying to get out on early release and wedged himself in so even when I started pushing (I think it was involuntary pushing) he'd move forward slightly then back. By this point pethidine had pretty much worn off but was too close to him arriving to have more and gas and air had been chucked aside for proving useless to me ages before. I was getting tired, he was getting tired and he wasn't budging. Eventually midwife said we'd try one last push with the contraction otherwise she'd do a cut to help him out. Didn't come so she gavel a local to do the cut, as the was about to do it the fear must have taken hold of both of us cos we managed a push and head was out. Then the contractions stopped again. I was sat there with his head out bit body having none of it for a while but eventually got it out. (oh forgot to mention, around this point was shift change who all wanted to see what was going on plus a load of students. I shit you not- at least 20 people in delivery suite with me at one point.) Little one was wrapped in towels and gotto see him for about 10 secs before he was whisked off the scbu. Placenta delivered ok but then kept bleeding quite a bit so spent half an hour being poked and prodded while they tryed to work out what was going on. No tears so no stitches and decided to keep an eye on the bleeding. Got tea and toast and had a shower (bathroom looked like a scene from a horror movie when I'd finished) and went to see DS on scbu. Slightly funny shaped head from wedging himself on the way out but it's settling already!
Born at 8.55am, I was back on maternity ward just after lunchtime and been to see him in scbu a few times. Pumped 2 lots of colostrum or when he's ready for it and just need to keep pumping till he's ready to feed. He's still in an incubator with cpap for now but they're pleased with him. Think that's everything but any other questions just ask!

P.s thanks for lettinge stay on the thread- didn't fancy having to jump in to the oct thread on my own!

Hope LO is doing ok,
do you know yet how long you/he will stay in for?
have you chosen names?
X

Clarella · 25/10/2012 21:37

Wow honey, extremely well done you! Xxxx

Sorry to bob on without a recap further back on thread, I did a silly thing and had a brief google - I keep getting strong tightening at the very top of my uterus, it feels like it pushes right up and then down and can last a good few minutes - I've had bh around whole belly before but this is a different sensation - had a lot today (but very tired after 3 am row with DH, one of those where in reality you're both saying the same thing - I made it worse by being overly emotional, so could be that?)

Think its just different, more proper bhs?

Actually whilst I write it maybe ill just call the mws to check?

HoneyMum21 · 25/10/2012 21:40

He weighs 4lb 14. Not sure how long he'll be in for. Hoping to get him off incubator tomorrow. We've named him Dashiell- dash for nn- he's already living up to it!

HoneyMum21 · 25/10/2012 21:43

Clarella if the past 24 hours have taught me anything it's listen to your gut instinct! If you're at all worried call the MW to get some reassurance! ( it will be fine but better to get reassured than spend time and energy worrying!)

Clarella · 25/10/2012 21:56

Aw lovely name honey! And apt!

I just answered my q after some better searching and found this:

"Are Braxton Hicks painful?
The contracting sensation begins at the top of your bump and moves downwards, usually lasting for about half a minute at a time, but sometimes for maybe twice that duration.
While they might feel uncomfortable or twingey, they are not painful like regular contractions will be.
However, as you get into the last month of your pregnancy, they may become more intense and start to feel a little painful. At this point, even women who have experienced them for several weeks may think they are going into labour."

Probably normal, not painful just make me pretty rigid for a while! I'll properly time the next one. And I'm due 26th Nov so almost into last month. Yikes better buy some nappies (and get bathroom finished!)

Think ok?

I might be able to have my first bath in pregnancy tomorrow eve in a lovely new bath that doesn't leak and hasnt got built up walls of silicone that resemble paddy fields to catch and channel various pools of water around the stupidly badly designed and wonkily installed avocado lump of plastic that saw 5 months of washing up, hand washing and plaster mixing this year. Rest of bathroom and upstairs still armegeddon (nursery finally plastered!) but I have shiny non leaking taps to marvel at!!!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 25/10/2012 21:58

Oh honey well done that must have been scary but at least he's safe and doing well :)

I can't remember who asked braindead but I'm off to Dubai. Can't bloody wait!!

AlisonDB · 25/10/2012 21:58

Clarella,
Could you have a UTI, I had one at 25 weeks and it sounds very similar to what you have,
I didnt have any other symptoms, just contractions around my upper uterus,
I would give your MW a call though just to see,

Honey - great name, and quite a good weight to for a premy,
Hope he is able to come off the incubator and go he with you soon x

AlisonDB · 25/10/2012 22:02

Ooh Stacey - very jealous room for a little one (+ bump) in your case? :-)

Oh how I'd love my bathroom to be finished, or even started for that matter, 7 years in the house and our 5 year renovation plan has flown out of the window, and toys 1ds and bump have flown in!
Arh maybe this time next year I'll be able to have a bath! Me hopes!!!

Clarella · 25/10/2012 22:03

Though my only other slight niggle is I've never really had period pain (but always assumed id get my fair share and more in labour as a comedic twist of fate!) But now wonder abit ....Confused

Clarella · 25/10/2012 22:13

Does he have a tube honey or feeding with bottle? (forgive my naivity!) Hope he can come out soon!

Bathroom was falling apart, no sink, have even found live wires, kind of became a necessity - at one point we thought it could just be tarted up but too dangerous so luckily a friend of ours has done it for very little [hsmile]

Thanks for uti idea - Will check out uti if still going on in morn - I wonder if being a,little dehydrated could do it too?

AlisonDB · 25/10/2012 22:20

If you have a UTI definatly keep hydrated,

Mine started in the morning, and where just "there"
So didn't think anything more of them, thought they where BH,

As the day progressed they became stronger to the point of being painful, and coming closer together, like every few minutes!

I must say I was terrified as I thought it was labour starting,
Called the midwife who came out checked to make sure I was not dilating,
And then told me I should take a urine sample to the drs
Simple test done a weeks worth of antibiotics later and I was fine,

Have been making sure I drink loads, I'm notorious for not drinking enough!

Secondsop · 25/10/2012 22:21

Oh honey well done you - glad that you and your boy are ok. Lovely name!

Clarella · 25/10/2012 22:27

Thanks for the info Alison, that sounds horrid I'm not surprised you worried! It's not how you describe but just quite a,noticable few for a good few mins but none the last couple of hours, ill just keep an eye on it. Baby wriggling in usual.way.
