Maybe we need to start a list on the stats thread for the mummy's who have had their babies?

YellowWellies · 05/10/2012 18:26

YokoUhOh I'm working until I drop - but then I'm freelance, can work from home and need to do this to make sure I get any maternity allowance from sodding HMRC! I'd be happy to quit a fortnight before I think but until then would probably get bored, mindst my work is mentally demanding but easy going in terms of stress / physicality.

kissyfur · 05/10/2012 18:30

Think I'll steer clear of the whooping cough thread then!

yoko I'm working till 35 weeks, will be v glad to finish as I'm getting v tired now, plus I think I'm developing a waddle! Blush

YokoUhOh · 05/10/2012 18:30

Hi Yellow, I'm definitely worried about the boredom of pre-baby mat leave but I'm currently doing the odd 13 hour day and on my feet all the time, it just feels too much!

horseylady · 05/10/2012 18:31

37 weeks yoko both jobs.

I think I've just lost my mucus plug......

YokoUhOh · 05/10/2012 18:32

Hi Kissfur,, empathy on the waddle front (and the odd quack haha)

YellowWellies · 05/10/2012 18:32

Wooo that does sound too much - when I WAH I don't even get out of my PJs. Hmmm if I were in your position I think i might quit earlier x

YokoUhOh · 05/10/2012 18:33

So, basically, everyone else isn't taking it easy either?

YokoUhOh · 05/10/2012 18:34

Sorry Kissyfur, my iPhone autocorrected you. I remember the TV programme from the 80s!

capedcrusader25 · 05/10/2012 18:36

yokouhoh I finished on Wednesday (34 weeks) - I was due to finish closer to 36 weeks. But after a stint in hospital and a week off to recover I just knew when I went back I was doing more harm to myself than good. I work in a secondary school too and I was so sd to finish earlier than I wanted to. But I'm still only 70% on a good day and at my midwife appt on monday the bump growth has tailed off so I know I was pushing myself too much :(

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/10/2012 18:36

I had my flu and whooping cough jabs today. I have to say despite the overriding advice to have them I will not stop wondering whether I have done the right thing until I have a healthy baby in my arms. Hopefully not too long left for worrying.

applepieinthesky · 05/10/2012 18:37

I'm working full time until 35 weeks and I have a desk job where I'm sitting down most of the day. If I was on my feet all day I don't think I could work that late Yoko. I'm sure i'll be bored at home after 2 weeks but the tiredness is building now.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 05/10/2012 18:38

What horsey??? Pray tell! I have never lost mine before and have carefully retained it.

capedcrusader25 · 05/10/2012 18:38

horsey are you ok? How many weeks are you again? [Blush] I don't know much about the mucus plug so don't know what the next steps are! Great aren't I?!

applepieinthesky · 05/10/2012 18:41

I don't want to ignore your post horsey but I'm a bit clueless. Should you be calling anyone? Have you got any other signs that things are progressing?

Catbag · 05/10/2012 18:48

Horsey Losing the plug is a sign that things are warming up for labour, but it is not certainly imminent- could be a week or so before anything happens, could be an hour, everyone's different. Keep an eye on developments-leaking waters (they don't always gush), BH that seem to be getting regular or slightly less comfortable etc- but don't worry too much. How many weeks are you now?

Chunkychicken · 05/10/2012 18:50

Hi all!!! Long time no post... So glad to hear the lovely twins news and that things generally seem to be going well for most. Have only skimmed so sorry if I've missed anything bad/stressful/concerning - hope those pregnancy niggles aren't getting anyone down too much.

I'm nearly 34wks now. Have had my scan, my placenta has shifted, so hoping for the home birth I had wanted. We didn't see anything definite as to sex, so we're still team yellow (but definitely leaning towards the pink team, without any real evidence! Wink ). Scan also suggested baby was 4lb 12oz at 32wks, so VERY different to DD, who was 6lb 5oz at 39+3!! (Although very much aware that the estimates can be wildly inaccurate.)

Been having stomach/back twinges a lot this wk. Think it might be muscular/digestion related but not sure if its braxton hicks either. Either way, baby needs to stay put!!!

Yoko I too am a secondary teacher, although only doing 3 days a wk as I have a 2.5yo. Our autumn break starts on 19/10 so I'm stopping work then (as I near 36wks) which is about right for me. I stopped at 37wks with my DD, again at the Easter break, and felt it couldn't have been a day later. I was exhausted and fed up. I just had to learn to do as much as I could - some things have to slide and you have to put yourself first. If the books don't get marked, because you were at parents eve or open eve, or because you were planning a good lesson, so be it. I also teach sitting down much more now. OfSted would fail me as I rarely circulate the room & I get the kids to come to me more, but hey, I'm pregnant and it'll be business as usual next year!!

Seeing MW on Tues so will ask about home birth & WC jab. Having flu jab on Fri, so will maybe contact the GP & get both if the MW is unprepared!!

Nervous I think a 'post-natal' stats thread with names & weights etc would be a lovely idea, so occassional/rare posters like me could quickly catch-up!!

Oh and, if you haven't bought the mattress protection sheets yet - buy Huggies dry nites matress protectors. Much bigger than the maternity ones & possibly cheaper...

horseylady · 05/10/2012 18:51

No just a couple of bh. But that's normal.

Just got out the bath, large glob of mucus came out. Think it's quite common. Am going out of my leaving do (the big one!!) so I think it's ok. There was no blood so maybe it was just part of it? Was just a bit odd??!! They do say you can lose it in the weeks (I'm 36+1).

Baby moving happily even better news is I'm in (comfortably!!!) my size 10 black Hobbs dress!!!!!!!! It's stretchy but it looks good!!!!! I'm so happy!!!!! Now to see if I can tolerate my red beautiful irregular choice shoes or not??!!

ValiumQueen · 05/10/2012 18:52

I think the plug can go and everything be fine. It is when waters go you need to act. The waters are the bit that keep everything infection free.

yoko I officially start Mat Leave on Monday at nearly 37 weeks, but have not been in work since 23 weeks. This is my third, I am very old and was very unwell with DC2. I had planned to start Mat Leave at 29 weeks to keep myself as well as possible as I have a 2yo to hobble after. I broke my leg though, which bought me an extra 8 weeks sick leave (not on purpose you understand). I worked much later with my first and she was very late. Only you can decide. If you feel you are overdoing it, then stop. It does not make you a better person and is not a contest. We are all different, and have different challenges and physical responses. You are welcome to hang around btw.

Dixiebell · 05/10/2012 18:53

I'm working to 37 weeks but am p/t and have a desk job. I'm knackered after looking after DS all day, don't know how I'd cope with a classroom full! But I think you just have to go on how you feel.

I think mucus plug can go quite far ahead of anything actually happening. My notes say no need to call hospital or mw unless there is a lot of blood with it. I never noticed mine go last time, but waters broke at 40 + 5.

kissyfur · 05/10/2012 18:53

Smile you're the first person to say they remember the cartoon yoko

Oo horsey have you any other signs that something's happening? Are you ok? I remember when I lost my mucous plug when having DD, it was mainly clear with bits of red, very jelly like and there was loads of it. Sorry if that was TMI!

jenbird · 05/10/2012 18:53

I hardly ever post on here as can't keep up but do follow as much as possible.
Horsey - your mucous plug can go pretty early I think without it necessarily meaning you will go into labour. Apparently in can regenerate too. Mine went at 37 + 6 with ds 1 but he was born 5 days later. Good luck x

GTbaby · 05/10/2012 18:54

wow, 5 pages in.

not caught up, so hope all is well.

had my last day at school/work today :) feels weird, and came home and signed up to netflicks lol so i can now lazz around in bed for a few weeks watching up on loads of movies and tv shows i have missed :) dexter and the wire are first on my list.

off to make dinner so will catch up later in bed

StuntNun · 05/10/2012 18:55

Yoko I worked to 38 weeks last time round and it was a bit tough, and that was in a desk job. If you start to struggle towards the end you can always get a sick note which would start your maternity leave early.

Losing the mucus plug is one of the first early signs on labour for some but I've been taught that it's quite vague as to how long the wait is between then and anything else happening. It can be as long as a couple of weeks or as short as within hours. Exciting Horsey! I would say make sure you're prepared just in case anything else happens and give your MW a ring tomorrow to let them know and discuss.

My DP has just left to go to his parent's home in Watford until tomorrow night and he's been texting me from the train asking me politely to not go into labour while he's gone (even though a friend/parent could get him back here in 2 hours). I won't tell him about you Horsey as you're only a day behind me for gestation!!

I wonder how Evil is getting on...

Shelly - nice one on the jabs. Sod what anyone else thinks! I've felt a bit rough today following my jabs yesterday but it's passed now.

Detective - I wish you could temporarily move to my area for your birth. I have had the opposite treatment and a home birth was suggested at my very first MW appointment when she was pleased that I was low risk. I actually said no at first but then got more confident with it the more I researched it. In fact, I've got them begging me to go into labour during the day so they can bring a student with them! I told them if the student is that desperate to see one then they'll get up in the night, ha! I hope that didn't sound smug or anything like that. I just wanted to point out that it isn't a national NHS scandal to deter people from home births. It seems they're the opposite here and are more pro-community. I really, really hope you get the birth you dream of Smile.
