Nope as much as I love a good t'internet spat bad YW I'm going to finish painting the cradle we were given (it's an old Orcadian one and will be Junior's pad during the day when I need my arms free, in an ideal world) will put some photos up on FB - it looks really good if I do say so myself. And because it rocks - the cat can't get it in - he has already tried. After that I'm going to crash on the bed with JuJu Sundin (sp?) Birth Skills book. It's the last day of the Brown Trout season so DH has valiantly set off into the gale to see if he can catch us another one for the freezer - I have to make the most of having the house to myself!!!

Right, can someone explain to me how the breathing thing is supposed to work in labour? I have never got the hang of this. Are you just supposed to breathe slowly and deeply and try to stay calm?

YellowWellies · 06/10/2012 15:45

Pretty much - and also breathing slowly and deeply (like yoga breathing) from the diaphragm i.e. deep in your tummy means you get much more oxygen to your muscles and reduces the pain and exhaustion you'll feel compared to if you were hyperventilating and breathing shallowly.

Congratulations Evil and family, lovely news on your new baby boy.
Cant wait to hear name and see piccies when you are up to it!
Want my little boy now Envy

horseylady · 06/10/2012 16:13

Congrats evil!!!

Dog just jumped on my bump :( bad dog :( should be ok shouldn't it??!

ValiumQueen · 06/10/2012 16:15

horsey you will be fine. Baby is well protected, especially by your abs of steel. If you have the anti-d jabs it would be worth calling your MW. Naughty doggy! Still, at least it was not a horse!

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/10/2012 16:29

Congratulations evil :)

horseylady · 06/10/2012 16:35

No anti d needed. Bloody thing!! Just seen my friends, dogs went mad playing and just leapt on me but got the bump!! Poor bump :(

Yes at least it wasnt a horse!!

YellowWellies · 06/10/2012 16:41

I'm sure you'll be fine horsey! It's funny what makes us all worry - I'd be terrified of getting injured falling off a horse if the horse freaked out at something - but probably wouldn't think twice if a dog jumped up at my bump (possibly because they'd likely hit junior in the arse given their current position).

I remember when my sister was seven months pregnant and still cycling 12 miles a day - we were all terrified for her wee one as there's not much to protect them if you come off the bike so late in pregnancy. She was very blase. But now she thinks the worst of most situations and is a real worrier. My irrational worries are far too many to list... but include DH driving too 'rally driverish' up our rough country track... errr, bending over too quickly and trapping their neck in my pelvis (not possible is it?) and numerous other hormone fuelled craziness...

Come to think of it horsey a dog bounce is a much more sensible thing to worry about than what I worry about Blush. But I am sure Junior is fine. How are you feeling after losing your mucus plug - do you think you lost it all? Do you feel as though you might be progressing toward labour?

ValiumQueen · 06/10/2012 17:09

YW not possible. I worry in case the lorry coming towards us crosses into our carriageway. Always lorries and busses. I get such a nervous driver and passenger in late pg.

horseylady · 06/10/2012 17:17

Yw I only worried because it hurt ( and I can still feel it?!) I do worry about falling off, but I've done as much damage limitation as possible by only riding my horse and being very sensible with what I do!

I'd ride a bike now tbh but it has a flat tyre and dh is too busy to mend it!!

I think I only lost part, there was no blood and I have had little in the way of increased discharge so perhaps it was s combination of things rather than the actual plug!! Was just odd to have it come out??!! Literally!!

YellowWellies · 06/10/2012 17:22

Ouch :( ... get checked out if you're worried but am sure it's just bruising - is the baby bum up? In which case they might have felt a nudge but am sure they're ok.

I'd ride a bike here where we maybe see a car every half hour, but not on a busy road down south - it's other drivers I don't trust to be honest. Actually am not even sure I would here, just in case I came off - I can't honestly say I could always land in a way to protect the baby.

Glad to hear VQ that my worries are entirely irrational as with so much else of my personality... I hate oncoming HGVs too. Shudder.

YellowWellies · 06/10/2012 17:30

I have to confess to being partially jealous at you losing your plug horsey as I soooo want to meet the wee one; but also conflicted by hoping they stay put until I'm eligible for my MA. Sods law will dictate, no doubt, an early arrival...

DesperateHousewife21 · 06/10/2012 17:37

I really do think this baby will come early, not prem but before 40 weeks like ds did.

I don't know why I just have a feeling (I've prob set myself up for a 42 week birth now!)

Titsalinabumsquash · 06/10/2012 17:39

I thought I was losing plug a couple of days ago, I has some clear jelly stuff in my undies, the midwife said it is possible to lose it for weeks before baby arrives and it's usually when it's blood stained that baby is imminent. Smile

YellowWellies · 06/10/2012 17:47

I didn't know that thanks Tits. Hmmm no sign of that here.

Titsalinabumsquash · 06/10/2012 17:57

Although I will add, I never lost any sort of plug or discharge of any kind until I was ready to push with both my previous labours, I guess everyone is slightly different! Smile

ValiumQueen · 06/10/2012 18:07

YW your baby will arrive just before midnight on the day before you qualify. See if you can keep your legs crossed or get DH to hide all the clocks.

ShellyBobbs · 06/10/2012 18:29

Feeling rotten. Have had 2 hours sleep in 2 days :(

I woke up this afternoon to find my lovely 12 year old daughter had put a steaming mug of tea and 4 biscuits next to my bed, she had already brought me up 3 brews before that.

Fantastic news Evil, enjoy!

Elizadoesdolittle · 06/10/2012 18:39

Fantastic news evil I hope things settle down for you on the feeding front. I found the early days very tough but it does get easier. Enjoy your baby and look forward to hearing what you decided to name him.

horseylady · 06/10/2012 19:14

Tits that's my understanding!! Blood stained immenent. Clear just something!! It was clear I was just like wtf??!!

I don't tend to worry about too much.... It'll all change post baby probably!! Had a lovely ride thus evening, dog bump pain now gone, baby still kicking!! Yes he's bum up so his bum may have been poked by said pup!!

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 06/10/2012 19:27

Has anyone else been told to take vitamin D? Dr mentioned it at last apt but was first I had been mentioned and she seemed surprised I had already been told to take it?

Tiago · 06/10/2012 19:35

Congrats evil.

My nct class was told that labour is likely to follow soon in he event of a bloody show, but that it is possible for the plug to be lost early and then reform. It does however indicate he cervix is softening, so things are headed in the right direction.

Tiago · 06/10/2012 19:36

I was recommended vit d from the booking in appt.

ValiumQueen · 06/10/2012 19:54

Nobody has mentioned vit D. I have read about it on here. I eat a fairly healthy diet, and the other two turned out fine.
