Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
itsMYNutella · 01/10/2012 21:02

Evening ladies, you are all looking lovely! :o
Thought I'd pop my head round and say hello on the new tread.

Spotty re DPs and DHs feeling movement: I read somewhere that if someone puts their ear to your belly now they should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat. DP had a go and got a pummelling in the face :o he was surprised at how hard the bean is kicking now!
We tried again last night and it worked, I loved the look of awe on his face. Wish I could hear it!

PurplePidjin · 01/10/2012 21:05

Spotty, if we try that it's not dp that gets kicked and prodded Hmm

HoneyMum21 · 01/10/2012 22:20

Agghh. Having a panic. I asked the dr ad he said it was fine, but I stupidly just asked google and now am worried- codeine (fairy minimal dose) is ok at this stage isn't it? Google said not in early pregnancy and not in final week or so but isn't clear about now (am 30 weeks). Does anyone know for sure?

FriendofDorothy · 01/10/2012 22:26

Codeine is fine. Don't worry. It can be prescribed all the way through pregnancy if necessary. The codeine should Aldo help to suppress your cough.

monsterchild · 01/10/2012 22:28

Honey, my understanding is that right before birth and the baby has withdrawal issues. Early on it's a development issue.at 30 weeks he will do any withdrawal inside you and with you so not such a problem

FriendofDorothy · 01/10/2012 22:29

Also the reality is that unless you are taking shed loads of codeine withdrawals are likely to be fairly limited.

HoneyMum21 · 01/10/2012 22:33

Thanks for quick responses! I knew it was prob ok just had a minor panic moment! Thank you Thanks

Queenofsiburbia · 01/10/2012 23:38

Feeling for you honey I had a shocking cough until last week but yours sounds horrendous! Hope you get well soon (also figs are in season Wink)

Eggs hope u feel better soon too.

& I hope the damn evil driver gets his comeuppance soon.

We're in a bad way right now! Maybe instead of sobbing sofa we all need nice recuperation ward, with kind nurses to bring us horlicks, set in downton abbey?! Perhaps we should save that for December!!!

Thanks for advice about breaststroke Kate. As I now intend to spend every spare minute in the pool that's very useful info!

Clarella, I had very undignified hopping around moment after swimming, trying to hook sock over big toe! What's it going to be like in November!

MaMaPo · 02/10/2012 06:16

Morning all. I stupidly woke up at about 4.30am and now have given up on the night's sleep as a bad job. So it's an early breakfast for me.

I have missed loads of stuff, so commiserations to those feeling under the weather (and breaking ribs!). None of this stuff is a walk in the park for the body so look after yourselves.

Epic week this week (and I could do without having to cope on 5 hours sleep) as I have 2 NCT classes and two other evening events on top of manic work days. First NCT last night was good - very friendly other people, and the teacher seemed good enough UNTIL she started suggesting homeopathic remedies! It took all my willpower not to start grilling her on the evidence base for it. I know I am mouthy strong willed but I like my tea hot and my medicine science-based, thank you very much.

Luckily everything else was helpful otherwise I'd be fuming.

Nutella That is very cool that your other half was able to hear the heartbeat - I might see if my husband wants to have a go at some stage. I think he's enjoying this later stage of my pregnancy much more than the earlier one - he seems to be increasingly involved and excited which is lovely.

EggsMichelle · 02/10/2012 06:25

I tried to look at my lady garden yesterday, to judge whether it needed tidying, and there was no angle I could get in to see it Sad I suppose when I go swimming next I will have to judge by the looks of horror on people's faces! Next stage I will be joining Queen at sock wars.

I slept well, but woken still with abdo pain, feels like constipation/bloat which is an odd contrast to yesterday. Feel like there is no more space left for Shrimpy, he will have to stop growing.

Queenofsiburbia · 02/10/2012 07:04

I've been awake & trying to force the sleep but not happening due to really painful lower back / pelvis.
New mattress arrives today, yippee!

Pre-swimming, my lady garden took abit of blind zipping around yesterday with a 'lady trimmer' to get sort of ship shape, can just manouevre bump to catch small glimpse of the area but those days are clearly numbered Grin !

mamapo I'm just like you about evidence based medicine etc etc and will also be doing silent gnashings of teeth (if not already irritated in which case, not so silent). All in all looking forward to it but if they live up to my mothers nickname of MPP not NCT (More Pain Please) I will be abit Angry!

Ditto when community midwife reacted angrily about epidurals (I have a previous spine injury from horse riding, which meant hospital midwife arranged for me to see anaesthetist to check no issues with epidural. There aren't!) and had a go at me for expecting one, Confused I was abit cross.
I'd only asked what alternatives were in case not possible and mainly asked because couldn't think if another question. Plus was about 20 weeks so not like I had a clue about what I want still clueless
She said "water is the most effective pain relief" Hmm. I'm sure itniche eat but I did actually laugh at her & say that probably not quite as effective as anaesthetic.

Queenofsiburbia · 02/10/2012 07:05
Blush Should read ... 'I'm sure it's great'

Stupid iPhone.

EggsMichelle · 02/10/2012 07:16

As the saying goes, you wouldn't have a tooth out without Novocain, so why the hell would we be expected to push a melon out with nothing more than positive though, it's like stepping back to the dark ages! And I'd like to see that midwife have surgery with just a warm compress as pain relief. I hope that I can do it with just gas and air, but also expect to be listened to in hospital and given the pain relief I am entitled to.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 07:22

I'm finally making my chutney today! It's a little late but been kind of busy!

Slept from 9:15 until 5:50 with only minor waking a for painful position changes so feeling quite good today!

I think I'd need a hedge trimmer for any maintenance down there Blush

My anaesthetist refused to give me an epidural last time because he was too scared and hadn't contacted his colleagues in london to see if it was ok like he said he would. I have since found out it is safe for me to have one Angry but I suppose I did it once without I can do it again plus I reckon had I had one last time they would have just gone straight to CS

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 07:23

Oh also I HAVE A NEW CAR!!! Grin

Queenofsiburbia · 02/10/2012 07:26

True! As clarella pointed out, childbirth is that 'totally natural' scenario famed for its agonising pain & which was responsible for 'naturally' killing huge numbers of women until 50 odd years ago!

We just ain't well designed for babies! Narrow hips for walking long distances + big heads for big brains is not a winning combo Hmm.

Queenofsiburbia · 02/10/2012 07:32

Sorry spotty, X posted!

Yeay for new car!!!!

FriendofDorothy · 02/10/2012 08:11

I feel like a new woman. Not quite sure exactly what that physio did but I certainly am not in so much pain this morning and I slept really well!

MyDaydream · 02/10/2012 08:12

I went at mine the other day and it took ages, I tried so hard to find an angle I could see but no luck! I got DP to check my handiwork when I was done and he just laughed.
Yey spotty on the car! Is it lovely? I have my driving test this month so hopefully ill have my first car by November.
My mum has passed on several gems of advice based on her life experiences and one of them is "take everything they offer you". She thinks I'm mad for going against this, but I really want to go to the MLU up the road rather than the big hospital miles away.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 08:15

That's good news Friend Smile

Well they can still give you diamorohine MyDaydream (or they can at ours?) it's just the epidural they can't. Plus the MLU always look much more comfy. I do love the car it's quite sporty though Confused and had automatic lights! Nice to be driving a manual again too I love driving!

gilsbubbles · 02/10/2012 08:34

I had a go at some last gardening this weekend, fair to day it will be the last time till junior is here. Lots of mirrors and contorting and dp still laughed and had to tidy up. I've had to get him cutting my toenails too.....nobody ever mentions these glamorous elements of pregnancy

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 02/10/2012 08:50

I'm booking in for a wax early in dec as there's no way I can do any trimming anymore and I'm not asking DH!

I am so tired atm, but really glad to have DH home finally.

OP posts:
FriendofDorothy · 02/10/2012 08:52

My husband commented the other day that foreplay these days involves a lawnmower. Cheeky sod!

emilyeggs · 02/10/2012 09:28

Was also thinking of getting waxed in dec...do you think they see it all the time with pregnant women?

Flumpy2012 · 02/10/2012 09:29

I'm beginning to get concerned about how I'm going to have a trim down there before birth! Without a DP there's not exactly anyone else to help so I guess it's just have a go yourself and hope for the best!Grin
