People who have a healthy BMI also get gestational diabetes (Robbie Williams' wife!) so please don't feel bad, it's just all the added pressure on your body and it can be treated. I've been diabetic for 13 years almost and pregnancy is a whole different ball game. I think there is a thread in pregnancy for gestational diabetes they will probably know what you're going through and have some helpful advice :)

Flumpy2012 · 01/10/2012 11:23

Secondsop - don't feel down, you've not failed at all. It can be managed really well and remember it is just because of your pancreas and liver coping with another life on board. Also they said it was only slightly raised and it will go away after birth and you can enjoy all those choccies!!!

Hugs xxx

I'm trying to keep bump warm when out! My top two buttons of my coat are the only one I can do up now so bump poking out! (good for getting seat on the tube though Smile)

Hope all the pains people are suffering are short lived, I find the middle of my back quite painful in the morning

Secondsop · 01/10/2012 11:27

Thanks Spotty and flumpy - I have joined the other thread about gestational diabetes which looks like it has lots of helpful tips. I'm a bit worried the clinic will recommend exercise because, not that I have anything against it normally, but my hip and back pain is so bad that I can barely stand at times.

PurplePidjin · 01/10/2012 11:32

Type I, Type II and Gestational Diabetes are all caused by completely different things. Type II is the only one caused by excess weight/poor diet/other environmental factors - the other two are caused by chemical imbalances within the body: Type I is (afaik) congenital and Gestational is caused by pregnancy. Do not blame yourself!

Clarella · 01/10/2012 11:46

D'ya know, if anyone ever touts that line 'pregnancy isn't an illness' near me let alone at me again (as my head did as I told her it was classed as a high risk pregnancy) I will clock them. It bloody triggers a lot of illnesses! And I know women have done it for centuries, but it killed a lot of 'em!

Sorry to hear about everyone's pains and general body rubbishness today. The end is nearer than the beginning!

I know queen - Congrats ! and pidg I think too!? to be at the 8 month mark! but what worries me is the 37 weeks is full term line that keeps getting touted! Think crossing our legs will work?! Getting my head out of sand certainly will!

Hope you get sorted with your house queen. We are definately cutting it fine here.

My fat newly formed cankles just bust the zip on my lovely tall winter boots.Angry fitted fine last week! Think a cobbler can put a new zip on? We have an actual cobbler down the road but I don't know if they're what they used to be?

MyDaydream · 01/10/2012 11:53

spotty that soup sounds delicious.
seconds thanks for the info, I've got my gtt on Wednesday and I'm getting a bit worried. Don't feel bad, as everyone has said it's not your fault and it could have come up slightly raised even if your bmi wasn't high.
emily my coat will now only fasten with the toggle above my boobs! I won't be going out in the rain much now. I've been covering up with big scarves.
clarella go in and ask, if they sound like they know what they're talking about go for it, if not there's probably a company somewhere who can do it.

PurplePidjin · 01/10/2012 11:54

Clarella, pregnancy isn't an illness - if you have a nice, calm, unemployed, stress-free one like mine. I'm in the lucky minority though (so far) because pregnancy certainly causes a lot of nasty conditions!

I'm 32 weeks on Friday, am counting months every 24th, ie LMP (24/2) so I'm 7 months 1 week. Which works in my head...

Eek, potentially 5 weeks Shock

Secondsop · 01/10/2012 12:01

purple thank you for that. I think I'm just freaking out at the thought of needing another lot of medical attention (after the high blood pressure drama and the current back problems) that I am worrying myself that if only I'd got down to a healthier weight at the start maybe I wouldn't have had such a rollercoaster of a pregnancy.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/10/2012 12:20

They might do Clarella certainly worth asking.

MyDaydream It's this one so easy, I add extra lentils though to make it thicker!

Secondsop I'm pretty sure they will just be recommending diet to start with, as park of a healthy lifestyle. They will no doubt be sympathetic to the pain you're in, and they will have their own dietician if you feel you need to talk about foods to eat/avoid. Some things can be surprising!

Pidj now it's October you can say you're due next month!! Shock Wink

PurplePidjin · 01/10/2012 12:22

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

:o

annelid · 01/10/2012 12:27

Great 28 week appointment today. Bloods and Anti D, baby all fine. Not my usual midwife and she was just checking where I was giving birth as consultant had written hospital! Anyway she is all for me to go for another homebirth, doesn't see any problems at all. I hope she is on duty when I go into labour she was lovely!! She recommended Farleys rusks for upping my iron intake, apparently they are packed full!

she also said that my usual midwife doesn't like delivering babies!? She is a paperwork person, thats why she hadn't really committed to me having a HB.

Anyway, feel very reassured and supported now.

Clarella · 01/10/2012 12:27

Definately - occasionally - (sometimes constantly) two of the hardest things to deal with in pregnancy aside physical, physiological and hormonal issues are 'guilt' and 'worry'. Think we've got to remember how much our body is doing growing a new person. By the way, the counsellor I'm seeing told me that in many cultures eg China, the period of seclusion they do traditionally following the birth, where extended family gather round to look after everything/one else and mum and baby just bond for several weeks (word finding skills crap - what's it called?) - statistically results in much lower levels of pnd and the expectation these days to be up and running in a couple of weeks (and into your size 8s) is putting extra uneccessary strain on new mothers. Was is the new head of Google or something who did that? Makes some feel we have to follow suit.

Though as a mum i'll probably feel a lot of guilt and worry anyway! Grin lots of nice stuff too though :)

Clarella · 01/10/2012 12:29

Ditto pidg

Shock Smile

Rather conveniently the physio appointment was brought forward to this morning.

She has confrmed that I have Pelvic Girdle Pain which is related to Hypermobility Syndrome. My pelvis was misligned by about an inch and half so she has put that back into place, but it hurts more than ever now - she said this is normal and it should ease.

She has also ordered me an attractive looking back brace type thing.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/10/2012 13:21

Yay Stacey! Grin dp has been rained off today Grin

Friend hopefully it'll feel better tomorrow and the pain is just from the initial 'treatment'

2blessed · 01/10/2012 13:25

Hi ladies. Hope everyone is feeling ok. 3rd trimester - wow! Still feels like yesterday when I got that wobbly feeling after the nurse confirmed that I'm 'very pregnant' back in May.
Not been around for a while, just moved (absolute nightmare but glad its done) and have been ill with an annoying cough for the past three weeks.

kate2boysandabump · 01/10/2012 13:52

Seconds Try not to worry about the diabetes things, pregnancy can affect your body in all sorts of bizarre ways.

Friend Glad you're setting sorted out. I've had that treatment when I was having ds2. It will probably hurt more tomorrow and then feel a bit better the next day.

Clarella Guilt and worry are basically the default settings for parents. For example I feel guilty for shouting at ds1 for losing his trumpet workbook, but feel worried he'll be in trouble for losing it Confused

I feel shattered today, DH and I stayed up late watching the Ryder Cup and I'm trying to catch up on different things, but every time I sit down, I think I'm going to nod off.

Off to the dentist after school to get ds1's filling fixed for the 5th time. More stuff to worry and feel guilty about!!!

WeeJo08 · 01/10/2012 13:58

Hi everyone!

I'm back after my birthday celebrations (the big 3-0!) and then a week's holiday in Spain. Am 30 weeks today Grin Feels quite significant - I guess because the baby could(!) arrive in a week beginning with a 3. That probably doesn't make any sense, does it?!

While I was home for my birthday we went to see the pram that we're thinking of buying and it was absolutely fantastic - in super condition and with all sorts of extras thrown in (covers, foot muff, etc) - so we are going to buy it. It's £200 for everything and DH calculated that this saves us a couple of hundred pounds! Grin

I haven't gone back and read the last thread but have caught up on this one so sorry to those who have been suffering :(

StrawberrytallCAKE · 01/10/2012 14:43

Oh Honey hope you get sorted out this afternoon, get some good painkillers!!!!

I'm going to buy my pram in 1 hour :) :) :) so excited.

Queenofsiburbia · 01/10/2012 14:46

I'm now preaching with fanaticism of the converted....

To anyone who is suffering aches & pains, been instructed to exercise or who just wants to remember what it's like to be not pregnant again; go swimming!

Probably everyone already is and I'm slow on the uptake, but I felt too self conscious due to newly enlarged rear, rather than bump previously and now am kicking myself as it was the nicest, most blissful feeling!

Getting out of the pool makes you go Shock at how heavy the bump really is! No wonder our backs hurt!
