Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Secondsop · 11/10/2012 20:38

Oh werewolves I got nothing like that at my 29 week scan! All I could make out was the top of the head from above. The one next week is at a different place - maybe they'll point out a bit more.

Thank you for the link. According to it, my baby is on the big side - estimated 3.3lb at 29 weeks.

SpottyTeacakes · 11/10/2012 20:46

Mine was 2lb13 at 28 weeks. They can be up to a pound out each way though!

StrawberrytallCAKE · 11/10/2012 21:41

Had WC and flu jab today and had to rush straight out of the dr to see the mw at another surgery, I had a bit of a funny turn in the car feeling faint and sick so when you have your jabs make sure you stay in the surgery for 10 mins after!! I am really rubbish with injections though and had a funny turn last week at the theatre because it was loud and really claustrophobic so think I may be prone to funny turns in general. Injections didn't hurt at all but my flu jab arm is a bit sore.

We've had house ishoos too, some workmen came round to strip the floorboards in the baby's room as we thought there was a leak under them (long story) and it seems there wasn't a leak....until workmen hammered a nail into a water pipe. They certainly didn't get any biscuits or tea. Luckily all sorted now and having new carpet in there tomorrow ready for the cot to be delivered, it's dd's birthday mid November so I've bought her one of the wooden kitchens from great little trading company and it's coming tomorrow too!!

HoneyMum21 · 11/10/2012 23:04

When I had my scan at 29 weeks at LO was estimated 3lb 4oz she said he was smack bang on average weight for his age and if he grew steadily at the expected weight he'd be average birth weight, which is currently between 7-8 lb apparently. Got the second go at 4d tomorrow so hopefully should see how he's grown in the past 2 weeks and hope he's still average!

Secondsop · 12/10/2012 00:09

I am in awe of those of you having work done in your houses! I can see it's easier now than after the births, but I just couldn't imagine managing what you're doing.

Have had a day of high blood sugars. Am still at the trial-and-error stage but I think the 2 slices of bread that the Dietician said constituted a portion really does send my sugars too high. She said that if I didn't have a portion of carbohydrate each meal my body would start using its own fat and (I quote) "the baby will be in an acid environment". But what is so bad about having, say, meat and plenty of vegetables? Isn't that the basis on which most salads operate? Unlike fats and proteins I didn't think there WAS such a thing as an essential carbohydrate.

Clarella · 12/10/2012 01:19

Secondsop and all you peeps struggling with blood sugar, it must be hard trying to hit it right when I imagine everyones a bit different. my hazy memory is that its to do with how the body metabolises and makes energy, don't get the acid bit but is that where 'ketones' come in? Muscles rely on carbs for ready nrg which is where the whole insulin thing comes into play (clutching at ancient a level biology straws) but then the body turns to fat and muscle when carbs run out (possibly difference between aerobic and anaerobic work outs? Clutching at gym straws there) which is what I think, produces the ketone/acid bit? I've vaguely picked up from somewhere that keeping well hydrated helps that bit too. Can you have one slice of bread as a portion or will the dietician throw a wobbler?

We've been told off at training (martial arts) if people have tried those diets without carbs as muscles need carbs - must be slow release carbs though so insulin doesn't rocket. So from that pov carbs are essential. Also something to do with seratonin production I think....

SpottyTeacakes · 12/10/2012 01:24

What bread are you eating secondsop?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 12/10/2012 01:45

About to get in the bath, well I have had a whole 2 hours sleep! Hmm

OP posts:
StrawberrytallCAKE · 12/10/2012 03:50

Not sleeping....when does the painful arm thing stop?

Walnut8 · 12/10/2012 06:04

sorry to all the painful arms and lack of sleep. I slept badly and DD also slept badly, so thankfully she is now down for a nap and I can take a break.

I had the impression that the weight estimated from the scan was a massive "guesstimate" .... I've been told countless stories about babies who have been estimated as 9 lbs plus, ending up well under that. And I seem to recall the sonographer at the scans with DD the first time around was very [hmmm] about it.

Whoever was told by the doctor that they were huge (Stacey??) I can only symthathise. Getting totally and utterly fed up with the "are you sure it's not twins" "are you sure your dates are right" "wow that's going to hurt" comments .... from every man and his dog (inc people who should know better).

Flumpy2012 · 12/10/2012 06:08

Awake! Amazingly not with heartburn for a change. Just worrying - about anything and everything!

My achey arm took a couple of days to go but I had them both in the same arm.

Feel for you seconds - blood sugars driving me mad. Sort of used to controlling them after watching my dad as he's been type 1 since I was a baby. It's hard because all I want is cake! And also they base it on 3 meals and I tend to have smaller meals more frequently as I get full up fast.

I'm so tired all the time, I think I could easily sleep all day every day.

Hope everyone else is ok Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 12/10/2012 06:44

Sorry about crap sleep. Dd woke at half one and didn't go back to sleep for ages, and it took her ages to go to sleep last night. I told my mum yesterday we'd stopped letting her have naps because she was being a nightmare at bedtime and my mum still let her sleep!! Angry I feel an AIBU coming on Wink

My flu jab arm didn't ache at all but my WC one is really achey.

PurplePidjin · 12/10/2012 07:23

My WC arm aches, but didn't until i lay on it Angry Slingmeet today though, yay!

Wrt carbs, all vegetables contain them just in differing amounts - root veg are high, leafies and legumes hardly any. So if potato is too much, mash parsnips or sweet potatoes or even cauliflower :)

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 12/10/2012 07:56

seconds they recommend burgen linseed and soya bread (available at sainsburys, saw it yesterday) if whole grain bread messes with your sugars. Whole grain is preferable to whole meal or white. My portions are quite small so I've been having one slice at lunch and then the other as toast at 4pm as I get hungry every couple of hours. I think it's trial and error to find what works for you.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/10/2012 08:00

That's the bread I was going to recommend Smile although I prefer the Vogel one. It's really yummy and iirc no added sugar

Secondsop · 12/10/2012 08:21

Hello, thanks for the bread tips, yes they recommended soya and linseed to me as well but I haven't had a chance to go out and get any so was using up some wholemeal bread with oats. Am going to try porridge this morning to see how it helps. Thanks for all your comments about carbs / ketones etc as well. I think I am just frustrated because I feel like I've been "good" but then get a high reading!

I had my flu jab on tues, no ill effects at first but then a sore arm yesterday and today. Perhaps that's my body producing the antibodies.

Secondsop · 12/10/2012 09:12

Oh and good tip whoever mentioned the carbier vegetables. Husband is angling for a roast chicken this weekend and I shall need something to distract me from eating a plateful of roast potatoes.

Cookiesandcream06 · 12/10/2012 09:24

Sorry to hear of all those suffering with lack of sleep and blood sugar problems. I had an OKish night and still exhausted- how much rest do we really need?!

Jealous of all those with house improvements but I don't know if I could deal with the extra stress?! Had our house valued but can't bring myself to put it on the market right now despite living in a shoebox

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 12/10/2012 11:11

Just woke from a 2hr nap and feeling a lot perkier now.

I hope everyone else has a good day!

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 12/10/2012 11:14

God all I seem to do is cry and rant these days, but I really need to again! Angry

My best friend was induced yesterday, she's currently 4cm. I was chatting with her on twitter this morning and then we switched to text as we started talking lady bits!

On twitter she was saying she'd only had 3 hours sleep and was grumpy. I said me too. That's all anyone can see as we're now on text. I've now had a shit load of abuse off a mutual male friend about how it's really not the same as she's 2 months further on than me and in hospital, has it much worse and I should wait my turn to whinge.

He has no fucking idea what a shit week I've had, and thinks he's the oracle as his girlfriend had a baby in June. I've told him this but what a fucking arsehole. My friend knows I'm not trying to outdo her as we have an inside joke about competitive pregnancies (her SiL is a bugger for this), but surely it's a pregnant lady's perogative to whinge whenever she wants. [RAGE]

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 12/10/2012 11:22

Pidj I can't get that link to work! :(

OP posts:
WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 12/10/2012 11:24

haha link on my way over!

WeeJo08 · 12/10/2012 11:28

Happy Friday everyone :) I slept really well last night (first time this week!) and I feel like a totally different (nicer!) person this morning! WC jab arm is still sore, it's red & angry and quite swollen and hard but I don't think it's as bad as it was.

PIL arrived last night so we went out for a really lovely meal at Kensington Roof Gardens which was yum and then MIL gave us loads of beautiful clothes that she'd bought for Shnarf so we're delighted. They really are so cute.

Stacey Glad your ear probs are clearing up - I think earache is one of the worst pains, so I sympathise.

Mwah (I think) Congratulations on the offer on your dream house! So exciting!

Fandango Thanks for the weight link.

This morning was the first time that I could properly identify a "pointy bit" when the baby moved. Not sure if it was a knee or an elbow but it was so well defined. It was really funny! Grin

Secondsop · 12/10/2012 11:31

werewolves - that mutual male friend can do one, frankly! What purplepidj said.
