Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
minipie · 04/10/2012 10:44

Morning everyone. Can't believe some of you are on antenatal classes already! Ours aren't till middle and end of November (oops, that means the last one is only 10 days before my due date ... )

Mums eh... mine is supportive and we get on v well, but she does have a tendency to (a) assume everything will be the same for me as it was for her (b) rose tint her own experience and (c) mistrust any form of conventional medicine. She didn't want me to have the flu jab or the whooping cough jab, had a bit of an argument over those.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 04/10/2012 10:50

Just booked flu jab, if the nurse has the whooping cough vac there she'll prob give me that too.

Have spent all morning in the bath. I'm just sooo uncomfy all the time :( would really like to fast forward to dec!

Sorry I haven't kept up much I hope everyone is ok!

Morning all. queen sorry to hear about the business with your husband. But maybe it's a good thing that this has come out now rather than him suddenly being a nightmare at birth. As others have said, a calm conversation with him sounds like a good idea so that you can decide whether you want him in the room with you or not. I wonder if he too thought he'd cope better with going through the graphic reality of it than he actually did. I know that when I go into labour, if my husband has even a tiny bit of jokiness when I'm struggling or in pain ( like some of the partners on OBEM) then I'm definitely not going to handle it well, so I'm hoping that our NCT classes ( which also aren't till very near my due date eek) will give us the chance to thrash all this out in advance.

I felt the baby hiccuping for the first time this morning! Although, as another example of "things grandmas dont get" my poor mum went off into a tailspin of panic when I told her because she didn't realise it was entirely normal.

kate2boysandabump · 04/10/2012 11:20

Wow, it's ante-natal class time already. I remember ours with ds1 really clearly, one week there was an England football match and most of the dad's didn't turn up and the mom's came with their own mom's Shock My poor dh dutifully came. Maybe you should take our own mom's too, so they get a bit more of a clue Grin I remember my best friend's mom being really shocked I wouldn't be getting an enema, a full shave or a routine episiotomy Hmm Glad I wasn't giving birth in the 70's.

Queen I think your dh needs a good talking to. Has he got a friend he can talk to about it? My SIL was worried my brother would be useless while she was in labour, so my dh talked to him about it. He's really squeamish, but managed to stay for everything except her having an epidural. Made it through the EMCS and everything.

My DH on the other hand, got right into the swing of it. He was practically the midwife's assistant when I had ds1, passing her anything she needed and getting a good look at everything. He does always stay by my head from crowning onwards though. I do love having him there, he always stands up for me and is very supportive, I would hate to have to do it without him Smile

Grandparents groups sound great!! I would definitely send my MIL, my own mom would just believe what I told her.

I went to Harvest Festival at the boys school this morning and have now had to come home to bed. It was so hot in the hall, at one point my friend started to fan me. My dad is going to pick up the boys and I am having a rest for the day. At least I'll get a chance to catch up on some knitting.

MyDaydream · 04/10/2012 11:22

Sorry to hear your DH isn't being so great queen. Maybe he'll be better at the time when he's in the moment and you actually are in labour. I think looking at pictures would freak my DP out a lot more than just being there.
stacey I'm a bit jealous you've spent all morning in the bath, it makes me go to sleep so can't spend too long in. I'm so uncomfortable though, I really miss being able to move around easily without discomfort.
I'm so thankful my mum just listens and lets me get on with things. She asks lots of questions to make me think my choices through but would never give me her opinions. She's great at sitting back and waiting to be asked for opinions and help. My grandma was overbearing and disapproving of everything she didn't agree with, so my mum has gone totally the other way.

2blessed · 04/10/2012 11:53

Morning All,
Echoing other posters queen, you may be able to have a calmer conversation with your DH today about your feelings.
I've got another few weeks before my antenatal classes start. I have a 6 hour (in one go!) labour workshop to look forward to.
Think I really need to start swimming this week, really feeling all these fruit and veg crisps and cakes adding to my weight. Off to find a cossie!
Went to bed at 8 last night! Don't feel any better for it this morning though...
Also after reading through the thread am feeling really unprepared. Was supposed to be strating to pack my hospital bag this week but all I've done is continue to unpack boxes. Maybe a trip to ikea on the weekend will help

Great news purplepidj

Equimum · 04/10/2012 12:40

great news Pidj

minipie really glad to hear that someone else's classes aren't until November - was beginning to think we'd left it ridiculouly late (even though that was the advice from NCT woman).

Queen sorry to hear your DH is being so unsupportive. Hope things improve.

Got a honecall from the midwife today to say that I'm low on iron, so have to start iron tablets tomorrow. Can't help feeling I've been eating a rubbish diet and this is my fault, and that I've done the baby some damage. Irational, I know, but it keeps crossing my mind!

PurplePidjin · 04/10/2012 12:58

Equimum, i eat the same as dp (albeit in smaller quantities) and he's in peak fitness - cycles 12 miles a day, runs 20 miles a week. He's training to run London to Brighton next year. I've been on iron tabs for a month now, so it's bugger all to do with diet! Minimise your tea intake as tannin inhibits iron uptake, and stock up on green leafies and OJ :)

In other news, a man came this morning and bought all the furniture from my spare room. Let the carpet-ripping commence! New ones go in next week

We were one of the latest in our class - dd 30/11 - the others were nearly all early Dec. So i assume, with nhs ones at least, Nov dd's get Oct classes...

kate2boysandabump · 04/10/2012 13:11

Great news Pidj Grin Grin Grin

WeeJo08 · 04/10/2012 13:18

Great news pidj - isn't it amazing how much joy the word "normal" can bring us!! :)

Equimum & minipie Our classes are't until November either (NHS ones) - we've got them on 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, so finishing at 38+2!! Eeeek!

Also, equimum try not to worry about the iron results. My booking in bloods were apparently "excellent" on the iron front (according to my MW) who said I "must have an excellent diet". Oh how I laughed at that - I wanted to say yes, if an excellent diet is one of copious amounts of white pasta, cheese, chocolate and roughly the same portion sizes as my six foot husband, then I do indeed have an excellent diet! Of course I smiled modestly and said "Well, I try my best." I genuinely don't think that diet is the only thing that affects your iron levels otherwise I'd be buggered.

WeeJo08 · 04/10/2012 13:22

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention, I think we're buying our sling tonight! Yay! Mamas and Papas have a sale on and have done a price match on the one that we want so it's the same price as on Amazon Grin We're going to use the voucher I got for my birthday (think I mentioned it the other day) I may use the rest of it for a totally non practical something cute :) Plus my Mum is picking up our pram in the morning! Woop! Grin

I used Deep Heat, Gaviscon and paracetamol last night & slept really well, so apologies if I am a teensy bit hyper. Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 04/10/2012 13:37

Great news pidj!

I'm grumpy today because stupid girl at work is off for the second day this week with a cold. A cold?! Try being pregnant/diabetic/having a progressive neurological disorder/car crash/bruised sternum oh yes that's me and I've had one day off sick in six years AngryAngryAngry

Anyway I have been reading all your stories on NCT classes etc it's getting close now isn't it? Make the most of the special time with your bump you forget what it's like so quickly. Baby kicking is like your own little secret isn't it?!

Queenofsiburbia · 04/10/2012 14:36

Thanks guys! As always a brilliant source of help & sympathy. I will be having a ' good sit down & chat' later & using all the things everyone has suggested. Poor DH, if he only knew what was going to hit him!

Very pleased about heartbeat news pidj!
spitty I think it's time to even up those figures & have a few days off pre maternity leave! You sound like a saint!
Having said that it drives me mad if first person at work to get a cold doesn't just stay at home rather than sniffling & doing sweet fa all day apart from spread the lurgy to everyone else.
But then if I end up doing their work I feel differently ;)

Queenofsiburbia · 04/10/2012 14:37

Is it ok to keep blaming phone for my stupid typos?

Sorry spotty.....

emilyeggs · 04/10/2012 16:08

AngryAngryAngry a customer came up to me and patted my belly and said "hello baby"!! I wasn't even talking to her and she made no eye contact with me! She just walked off AngryAngryAngry

HoneyMum21 · 04/10/2012 16:29

I think that gives you the right to kill her emily

SpottyTeacakes · 04/10/2012 16:35

Let us know how you get on Queen I really think most men don't think about things as deeply as us and he probably has no idea how he's made you feel!

That's the thing when she's not in I have to do her work which means I'm now behind on mine but she won't have any catching up to do when she comes back whereas if I have time off all my work is waiting for me!

Oh emily you should have told her you're only three months it's mainly constipation Wink

Flumpy2012 · 04/10/2012 16:45

Emilyeggs - Angry not public property!!

Spotty - Angry count the days until mat leave!

Hope everyone else is ok.

All jabs ok, just an achey arm. Have slept nearly all afternoon!! Feel slightly less emotional for it though which is good Smile

NCT not until november here either! Friend gave me some notes though - anyone else heard of this vitamin K thing?

MyDaydream · 04/10/2012 16:46

pidj that's great news about the heartbeat.
emily how awful of her, I've still only had one toucher and that was a weird friend of DP when there wasn't even bump just food podge.
I'm all full of milk, I just can't get enough of it today. Growing some big strong bones I think. I got a great video of my belly jiggling from some super strong kicks this morning, can't wait to show DP.
