Hope all goes well with the GTT mydaydream. Is it at the phlebotomy department or antenatal? I have very tricky veins also and was glad to be at phlebotomy. I was dreading it but it was fine in the end - I had the same nurse for all 3 blood tests which helped a lot. She took my 28 week bloods and my alpha thalassemia bloods at the same time.

Secondsop · 03/10/2012 09:57

Oh and thanks for all the labour clothing ideas. I might labour naked as well. That's how I like to sleep so I can imagine whipping off my carefully-chosen nightie in frustration partway through.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/10/2012 10:01

Waiting for my scan, they just did my flu jab

MyDaydream · 03/10/2012 10:14

Magic cream is Savlon to me spotty, it's what DPs grandparents used to rub on if he hurt himself!
seconds it's in antenatal, although she didn't seem to have any trouble today.
flumpy good luck at the clinic.
Halfway through GTT and I feel like shit. I'm nauseous and feel all faint, sat outside on the floor for some fresh air. I just want to go home and go to bed now.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/10/2012 10:32

MyDaydream why don't you go and ask them if you can lay down? I think you should have someone keeping an eye on you. Hope you're ok have a Bear to hug Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 03/10/2012 10:41

Argh loud annoying people in the waiting room!

WeeJo08 · 03/10/2012 11:18

Got appointment for WC jab next Tuesday, receptionist said if nurse has flu jab there she'll do them both at the same time - otherwise there's a flu jab clinic that Saturday I can go to, so I'm happy enough. Doctor said throat & cough thing is most probably viral and that glands were up and throat was inflamed - said it's being prolonged by acid reflux as that's burning my throat...more Gaviscon for me!! Oh well. Feel a bit better today but just so so tired! Finishing in 6 weeks and 2 days & today that feels like a looooooooooooong way away! When's everyone else finishing? Also, when it comes to hospital bags, what are you all bringing? Would it be totally precious of me to bring a (hand baggage sized) wheelie suitcase?

I managed to have a sneak peek yesterday at the birthing centre rooms as I was at the hospital anyway for acupuncture. I reeeeeeeeeeeally hope I stay low risk (and don't go overdue) & get to give birth there! Each room has a lovely wooden floor, double bed, flat screen TV(!), ensuite bathroom, birthing ball and chair thingy (not sure what that's for) and a birthing pool!!! Took some photos too for DH Grin

MayDaydream Definitely speak to someone and ask if you can have a wee lie down. Hope you feel better soon.

Spotty Hope all goes well! I'm sure by now the baby is almost getting too big for the scan screen! A friend of mine had some later scans and said they could only see bits at a time!

Flumpy Hope it goes well for you too.

Flumpy2012 · 03/10/2012 11:33

Hope it's all going ok for everyone else.
I'm still waiting. Does anything antenatal related actually run on time?!

Secondsop · 03/10/2012 12:03

mydaydream definitely ask if you can lie down. I'm sure that is preferable from their point of view too rather than you being outside.

MyDaydream · 03/10/2012 12:10

All done and I'm on my way home now. They gave me a bed and made me a cup of tea before I left to make sure I was fine. Going to get myself something yummy to eat with lots of cheese then go home to bed!
weejo I'm taking a wheely case just so DP only has to remember the case rather than a couple of different bags. We won't be driving to hospital though so we have nowhere to leave things until later, it comes with or I don't have it.

Scan all done Grin yep can only see bits of the baby but they always do a close up of the face for me. Estimated 2lb13 head circumference 27cm Shock

Glad you're feeling better MyDaydream

Flumpy they always run late costs me £2.60 in parking every time I go!

PrunellaDeVille · 03/10/2012 13:09

Just back from the local sling meet, very informative and i'm really glad i went before buying anything. Personally a mei-tai (sp?) came out on top - simple to tie, both shoulders and DH could probably bring himself to wear it too (thinking i'll make a black or a tweed one - avoiding the hippy look and saving £££ too). did someone (pidjin maybe?) link to a make your own mei-tai ages ago or am i dreaming it??

i'd been toying with the idea of a maternity coat too but haven't been able to justify the expense for the amount of use i'd get out of it pre december but the sling lady mentioned they're great for 'baby wearing' after pregnancy so more use. justification for shopping, goodie Grin

:)

Bought sposies today to cope with meconium. I think that's pretty much everything for hospital now, just want a rucksack to put baby bits in (will be nappy bag after) and snacks/drinks. My friend took 6 bottles of lucozade in with her and reckons she could have drunk another 6 on top!

Stacks · 03/10/2012 13:50

Afternoon everyone. I'm tired and sore today after swim-yoga last night, I must have overdone it on some of the hip exercises. Hopefully it'll pass soon.

I was wondering, is anyone else getting kicks/punches down there? It feels like bean is trying to pummel my cervix into submission. It's not constant or particularly worrying, but it is very uncomfortable, and obviously caused by a kick/punch. I'm wondering though if this means baby is maybe feet down? Even though midwife told me he was head down at last appointment.

Walnut8 · 03/10/2012 14:04

Yes stacks, I'm getting something down there (punches? elbows?). Sometimes takes my breath away! Also getting BH very regularly. I hope that means my uterus is getting lots of practice.

It's getting warmer here where I live and my feet are starting to swell. So annoying! GTT came back normal, despite weight gain and huge belly. Even my specialist commented on how much I had popped out already and did an impromptu growth scan (have a proper one booked for 32 weeks). Head is measuring 50th centile, legs and belly at the 75th. So I guess it's just my stomach muscles that have given up!

We are not advised here to have the WC vax, which is interesting. DH and other close family members highly recommended but not me until after the birth. WC rates high at the moment where I live and sounds very scary.

I took two small wheelie suitcases the first time. I lived 40 mins from the hospital, so wanted to have everything with me.

Secondsop · 03/10/2012 14:20

stacks I've had kicks in that area almost since I could feel movements. Worst was during an internal exam when the speculum was still in situ :(

FriendofDorothy · 03/10/2012 14:54

I have just been for my flu jab, will have the whooping cough vaccination in a couple of weeks at my appointment. Think it's a bit of a no-brainer really in terms of risk, unless there are very clear reasons why you shouldn't have the vaccination!

knottyhair · 03/10/2012 15:03

Got my whooping cough vaccination booked in for next week, and flu jab for a couple of weeks after. The consultant at the hospital advised leaving a couple of weeks between the jabs.

Stacks · 03/10/2012 15:32

Hopefully that means bean isn't feet down then, and that they're just capable of some remarkably strong punches...

Secondsop · 03/10/2012 15:35

stacks my boy is head down and I still get them. I guess he's an arm-waver. He certainly has his hands over his face whenever a sonographer tries to get a good look at it.

Saphiesgirl · 03/10/2012 15:48

Hi interweb mum!
I've had another day off today, drove half hour to work, slipped on wet floor and promptly drove home to get checked out. Landed on hands and knees, but got fright and baby didn't move for hour and half combined with regular contractions had a bit of a freak out. All fine, dr checked me over and baby moving, contractions stopped. Now feel a bit silly for panicking but just want to get through next 9 weeks in one piece. Supposed to finish work six weeks time but it can't come soonenough.

All good here now, naps make most things seem better! Hope everyone else's aches and pains doing ok.

Grrrr. Just spent some time with my mum (who is suprisingly uninterested in the pregnancy considering this is her first GC) who said 'are you still thinking about having an epidural' me 'what?' mum 'i was talking to my friend who said her daughter has a friend who had an epidural and she got awful backache afterwards.' me 'um, ok' mum'so are you going to have one? because i think it's a bad idea'.

I think she got confused between an epidural and a c-section. (obviously the latter comes with the former or a version of) I had mentioned i was discussing a cs with the dr and she turned her nose up then and asked why on earth i would want to do that and did i not realise it wasn't an 'easy option'.
Yes mother, i'm planning on having surgery just because it is an 'easy option' but now you've told me i might end up with backache i've changed my mind. WRONG. I'm probably having a CS because it is the best option for my baby and for me and if she bothered asking what the reasons behind it were maybe she'd realise that there is nothing easy about it or about making the decision to have one or feeling like a massive f* up because having surgery is the best for my son rather than me being able to give birth naturally.

Sorry, probablymade very little sense but she's really upset me. And she couldn't even get her facts straight before launching into this. I could have ended up having an epidural with a natural birth but i bet then she wouldn't have had the same issues with it.
