Spotty you're right. Big mothercare order it is.

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 12:53

Thanks all for the well wishes. I'm off work for a week so propped up on the sofa with lots of cushions and a hot water bottle on the cracked rib. Just realised we have very little food in the house and DH isn't home till late tonight and is away on a course in Scotland tomorrow so am going to have to find a way of getting some shopping in possibly phoning my dad with a shopping list and a pathetic voice

I ordered the Avent breastfeeding starter kit off Amazon - reduced from £200 (which i would never have paid) to £75 or so - it includes the electric pump which is £60 on it's own. I don't know how useful the other bits are going to be but for an extra £15 you get the steriliser and some bottles and lotions and potions. ANyway, it's worth having a look at if you're thinking about getting that pump anyway.

Am i being totally stupid/naive in having not even considered bras for nightime? I figured i'd still just wear strappy tops for bed and pull them up/down for feeding. Is this my ignorance showing...?

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 12:55

ahh, x-post about strappy tops pidj

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 12:57

I'll probably just wear a maternity bra in bed at night until my boobs settle down. You'll need a bra to hold your pads in place

ellliebelle · 02/10/2012 12:59

honey, pidj id say a strappy top with the hidden support in would be fab of not yout brrast pads might go amiss if using them. To be honest i didnt really produce enough milk to warrent breast pads but i know some people do and last thing you want is a milky bed :(

seconds bag sounds lovely just like what i want. Something i willbhopefully use for a good few years after i need a changing bag

ellliebelle · 02/10/2012 12:59

X-posts spotty

FriendofDorothy · 02/10/2012 13:01

We bought this bag in red - mainly because my husband was happy to carry it as well.

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 13:03

Thanks :) i guess it's little things like that that are part of the learning curve!

Silly question about changing bags - do they tend to have a compartment where you specifically put wet/soiled/dirty clothes that can be cleaned out easily? Or should i be looking for something to go in the changing bag to hold things like that separately?

FriendofDorothy · 02/10/2012 13:03

Does anyone have any recommendations on maternity pads. I live on a stupidly small island and couldn't find them in our local Boots. I am thinking I might have to order some oline.

ellliebelle · 02/10/2012 13:07

I would love one of these bags not sure dh would be happy, maybe if i get loads of christmas money :) which is unlikely

ellliebelle · 02/10/2012 13:08

honey some come with a messy bag inside for dirty bits

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 13:10

Today is going to be filled with me asking stupid questions as with nothing else to do i'm coming up with lots of things to worry about... is it acceptable to wear maternity trousers etc after the birth while things settle down? How long is it deemed acceptable to still dress like you're pregnant?!!

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 13:10

ooooh, Ellie those bags are lovely!

ellliebelle · 02/10/2012 13:17

Hehe i love silly questions :) after dd1 i didnt want to wear my maternity clothes at all. Mainly because i haf so little that fitan i was fed up of wearing it. With dd2 i never wanted to wear anything but my mat ttousers again as they were so comfy and when i did i just wore leggings and tunics and then boyfriend jeans with elasticated waists :) took me a long time to wear proper jeans again but mainly cause i didnt make a huge effort to loose baby weight as i knew i wanted another baby and decided id wait till aftet this oneto get my body back yo how i wanted it Blush this timr i pkan to wear mat clothes till im happy with figure or till they are literally too big which ever comes soonest as i dont have the money to keepbuying new clothes as i loose weight

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 13:19

Friend I got mothercare ones because they had wings and I prefer them.

Honey wear them as long as you like definitely for the first few weeks. Most people wear them until they can fit into pre pregnancy stuff so it just depends how long your uterus/tummy takes to go down

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 13:19

i'm just wondering if midwives/hospital staff will judge me if i'm still in mat jeans/leggings when i leave hospital or at the first couple of visits!

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 13:22

No of course not!!

MrsPear · 02/10/2012 13:22

friendofdorothy hello re maternity pads - did you check the baby aisle? They are usually kept with babies nappies or thereabouts. Otherwise i just use sainsburys!

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 13:23

Thanks :)

MrsPear · 02/10/2012 13:24

honey due to too many biscuits i finally admitted defeat when ds was 6 months and swapped maternity jeans for a larger size normal jeans. This time i have not gained as much weight (but bump is bigger!) and am determined to loose the extra a little quicker this time!

Flumpy2012 · 02/10/2012 13:27

I was hoping to keep my under bump may jeans just for flabby days even in years to come!

Has anyone got stretch marks?! Anything magic for them. I've read a lot that if you're going to get them you're going to get them no matter what you do Sad I just have a couple appearing on my back

Ordered a fab changing bag on amazon which comes with mat, blanket, bottle holder and a coin purse and a clip for keys!! Hangs on pram lovely too.

I think after the initial week we should be able to wear normal sanitary towels rather than maternity ones no?

Oh issime - I will not want to look there afterwards - at all!!!

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 13:28

I wore spanx 10 days post partam so I could fit in my normal jeans Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 02/10/2012 13:29

I don't think there is any way to avoid stretch marks I'm afraid, they will fade eventually.

I would wear maternity pads for a big longer than a week, I wore them for six. Just the fact that they are thicker makes them more comfy than normal pads

HoneyMum21 · 02/10/2012 13:31

i'm still fitting into pre-preg sized leggings and my jeans (very low) are just about ok too so hoping will get back into them after not too long... but a lot can change in the next 10 weeks!

ellliebelle · 02/10/2012 13:31

Regarding maternity pads i never used them after last 2 births just used the biggest pads always do so i cant really comment on which are best
