Not heard anything about whooping cough - note to self - must keep my ear to the ground for information. We certainly haven't had any info in hospital anyway.

I saw the most perfect birth last night, just thought I would mention it. It was better than text book Grin. I want a birth just like she had!

I've calmed down now and apologised to DP for being a stroppy cow, and he has apologised for fucking up :)

Bed time calls.... g'night.

applepieinthesky · 28/09/2012 08:46

I know of people that have had whooping cough in the last few weeks including little ones so I'm swayed towards getting the vaccine.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 28/09/2012 08:47

nebbo Isla and Abigail are lovely. Sympathy for those without names decided upon as DH and I are struggling to find something mutually agreeable! I have a few weeks to bring him around to my way of thinking I hope!

Interesting about the whooping cough, will ask my MW when I next see her.

horseylady · 28/09/2012 08:55

Will ask mw about it wed.

Yeah vq i think I knew blankets are thicker etc. But having only used sheets or a duvet I wasn't sure what you needed or didn't need. Anyway I'm much happier with what we need and how to put the baby to bed. It's been really worrying me the over heating thing, but now I'm much more confident knowing what they should be in and that you can remove layers. I'd bought sheets and cellular blankets - which I knew the difference of!!! It was just normal blankets etc. It's obvious now and I probably did know it was just one of those random things!!

MissMummy1 · 28/09/2012 08:57

Nebbo I'm extremely biased and think Isla is a fantastic name!! It was unusual when I was growing up but there's a few of us now and I've taught some lovely Isla's too.

We're sorted for boys. Stuck entirely for girls. DH is adament he likes Katy Rose or Roseanna Kate after our mums but I'm not convinced. He also likes Cally but I went to uni with a ditsy airhead called Cally so the name doesn't have great connotations for me... Any other teachers finding if really hard not to associate names with precocious brats kids you've taught??

ValiumQueen · 28/09/2012 09:01

I also saw the whooping cough info in the paper. I will call the GP today. The daily mail (not that i read it obviously) is blaming immigrants (as usual) who are not vaccinated.

DD2 had another bad night, which meant I had another bad night. Antibiotics are aniseed flavour! Just what a 2yo will go for. Thankfully she has bizarre taste, and asked for more! Hopefully she will nap today, and I will nap too given the chance. I am popped.

blonderthanred · 28/09/2012 09:05

VQ Seriously?! They are just turning into a self-parody.

TheDetective · 28/09/2012 09:06

I have a dilema. I want some bookends for babys room. Baby doesn't need bookends. We have the expidet shelving thing, which books will go on.

But I want bookends. I don't know why. I just need them!

But which ones will go best in the room?!?!

Lion ones

Or

Rainbow ones

Now, I really am going to sleep Grin

TheDetective · 28/09/2012 09:06

Dilemma even Blush

applepieinthesky · 28/09/2012 09:11

The lion ones detective Smile

Yes I saw that VQ Hmm

horseylady · 28/09/2012 09:14

The lions are soooooo cute!!!! I might get some...

applepieinthesky · 28/09/2012 09:17

I want them as well! I would make use of them but where would I put them? Baby's room has got so much in it already.

LittleLolly · 28/09/2012 09:31

I had my flu jab yesterday. It's not a live vaccine so can't cause us any problems, and definitely do not want flu!

Whopping cough is most definitely making a huge comeback. I have looked after so many tiny babies recently with it and it is horrendous, they are all in hospital at least a week. I will be getting my vaccine because I don't want this little one getting whopping cough. I would really recommend you all get both jabs!! So says the children's nurse Smile

applepieinthesky · 28/09/2012 09:34

I'm such a saddo. I'm ordering a dishwasher tomorrow and I'm so excited! I've wanted one for aaaaaaggges.

YellowWellies · 28/09/2012 09:43

Apple I have dishwasher envy. Fingers crossed our next house will have one - we've not got room here.

I'm going to ask about flu and whooping cough vaccines - thanks for the tips ladies, when I see the mw next week.

StuntNun · 28/09/2012 09:51

Nebbo you're having your section next week? Squeee! Do we need to start some kind of birth club thread for those who have had their babies already?

Thanks for the feedback on Ikea, I am reassured. We'll head down there tomorrow and have a look but I'll have to send DH down to actually get the stuff. I assume it's packaged to fit in the car boot? I have a mahoosive car. I feel really ignorant about Ikea but the only one in Northern Ireland opened when I wasn't looking for furniture so I haven't been there much.

I declined the flu vaccine because I've only ever had flu once but now I'm thinking I should have it for the baby's sake if he'll get protection from it too. I'll phone up the doctors on Monday and tell them I've changed my mind and can I have the whooping cough vaccine too.

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 28/09/2012 09:59

Stunt Good idea on the birth club. Now go and enjoy Ikea - try the wondrous hot dogs, meatballs and other Swedish snacks in the cafe. Don't worry about the heavy stuff - the shop and huge trolleys are designed to make it easy to shift them around. Be warned though, you may need blinkers - I always come out with much more than planned. I got a lovely stripey blanket for the baby in there (kinda like the M&P gingerbread one) but for a tenner - result!!! They also do growbags and really cool lighting for kiddies rooms.

Nebbo I'm biased (it's my twin's name) but Maria is a lovely name and I know a lovely Isla too Grin Good luck with your section!

kissyfur · 28/09/2012 09:59

Just phoned to get a flu jab appt and the firs one they had was 24th oct! That seems too long away, I'll be 36 weeks by then Hmm

Bluetinkerbell · 28/09/2012 10:07

DH emailed me this morning about the whooping cough jab... I know when we still lived in Belgium, they strongly urged both parents and even grandparents and childminders to get the jab, so not to pass it on to children!
I guess I will be having both the flu and whooping cough one then...

ShellyBobbs · 28/09/2012 10:13

Detective didn't realise he worked in a supermarket! Definitely no excuse, absolutely none whatsoever.....

VQ Your poor girl :( Hope it gets better soon.

Catbag Big LoL at your hubby being kept awake because he's excited about computer stuff Grin. I don't get it :)

Stunt The last time I tidied the kids bedrooms for them, I filled 7 bin bags and chucked them in the tip before I got them from school. All my lad was bothered about was a roll of grease-proof paper that he used as tracing paper, I hadn't thrown that either Shock.

Also Stunt Ikea furniture has worked well for my kids and that's saying something. I've got loads of different bookcases and various bits and bobs and it's done us well. It's also good to hack which we've (me) have done quite a lot of too. Steer clear of Argos rubbish, now that is a load of crap (the cheaper end anyway).

Nebbo I've got an Erin (not Elin) and a Niamh so am biased! Niamh is 12 and absolutely loves her name and finds the different spellings that people try amusing :)

Kissy Tell them you are pregnant and how many weeks you are, they should squeeze you in before then.

I've already been to the doctors this morning to make an appointment for my vaccination against whooping cough. As LittleLolly says, it's horrendous for small babies and obviously can kill them, there is nothing you can do either once they are born until they are 8 weeks old except look out for symptoms and get to the GP quick (wouldn't want to put my trust in a GP with my newborn to be honest). My brother had it as a baby and I was only 3 but still remember how ill he was and was scared he was going to die! My GP surgery has to ask for permission to give it and I've got the immunity co-ordinator ringing me later. I spoke to the nurse about that and came out having had the flu-jab which she gave me there and then. That's a good result at least.

I've got loads to do today and absolutely NO motivation or energy. Where has my nesting thing gone? It was really bad at the end of the 20's, but since the damn water infection absolutely nada!

Anyway, I'm going to go and eat a pile of tomatoes and mozzarella soaked in olive oil. Yum Yum Grin.

Cacacaz · 28/09/2012 10:17

I can never catch up properly with this thread, I attempt to at night and then always end up too tired to post.

Congratulations to Daisy on the birth of Huey Grin

Seems we all seem to have had stress to deal with right now, hopefully things will change for the better.

Have had lots going on the past few days, feel as if I don't know whether I am coming or going. My sil was admitted to hospital on Wednesday with pre eclampsia, she is very upset/scared/anxious mainly due to the fact it is my nephews 3rd birthday party tomorrow. It has been decided that she needs a c section today, so I have been running around like a headless chicken trying to help organise the party which sil and bil are adamant needs to happen tomorrow. Although I am looking forward to lots of newborn cuddles from my little nephew, once he arrives

I had whooping cough in July/August, going to phone the gp next week to check if I should still have the jab. I intend to follow their advice. Sadly one of the deaths of a baby, earlier this year, was a friend of my sisters. He was only 7 weeks old when he died of whooping cough.

ValiumQueen · 28/09/2012 10:35

cacacaz is your sister due or will the baby be early? Hope all goes well. Not sure a party the day after a section is a good idea though. DD2 was born by section the day before my birthday, and I had a party in the ward. Not my idea of fun.

blue yes I have seen that. The OSFA do not quite fit all as I bought some for DD2 and at 2.4 they would not go near her. She is not a fattie either. They are lovely nappies, but very similar to Fuzzis, that I have a full set of, and suit my babes better. You will love them, and get good use out of them. Very good price so should get most of outlay back when you resell.

ValiumQueen · 28/09/2012 10:37

I am due to have my flu jag 10 days before my section. They only have one clinic.

ShellyBobbs · 28/09/2012 10:41

My mum has just phoned me to tell me about the whooping cough, she's just had an email (she works at one of the local GP surgeries). She told me my brother was ill for 18 months after he had it :(

Iheartpasties · 28/09/2012 10:43

cacaccaz fingers crossed for your sil, and how sad about teh whooping cough death. so so sad.

Whooping cough made a bit of a come back around our area and I had a jab, so did dh and I got my mum and dad to have a jab too (they were visiting). I will say I had it after dd was born though.

we just had tacos for tea, yummo.
