Just got my letter through from payroll giving me my gross pay for the next 12 months as mat leave starts today. Scary! It's frighteningly low!

kirrinIsland · 01/10/2012 13:12

horsey hope you feel better soon. You work too hard? Maybe a sign you need to slow down a bit! When does your mat leave start?

Well, my doctors knew about the whooping cough jab - just waiting for a call back with an appointment.

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/10/2012 13:25

Mw said she was going to look into the whooping cough jab they need to know more about the risks/ effects etc.

Baby is head down, measuring spot on for dates everything seems ok.
Nothing now for two weeks then I've got a scan and mw app on the same day.

DebussyHead · 01/10/2012 13:27

Following your comments on the other thread VQ thanks for sharing what you found out. I was pleased to read they might do opportunisitc vaccinations as that maybe gives us some chance? I will be phoning GP at about 3pm.

Have 3 days left of work then on mat leave from Thursday. Can't wait to be able to focus soley on baby things, decortaing nursery, packing a hospital bag etc. Not done much so far but my best friend gave me a bag of hand me down baby boy's clothes from newborn through to 0-3 months so that makes it feel more exciting having some stuff.

YellowWellies · 01/10/2012 13:28

Whoever asked about witch hazel - my MW advised me to put it on maternity towels after the birth (if you give birth vaginally) to help reduce infection risk and help with healing. I was advised to buy the distilled extract (you can get a huge bottle from Boots for a couple of quid) and to avoid putting any gels on wounded bits!

horseylady · 01/10/2012 13:39

Two weeks at work, then two weeks annual leave. So 4 weeks left but only two working. Only got 2 hours left now so will finish off.

Yeah I've just over done it :( think I'll take Thursday off got a spare days leave to take!

applepieinthesky · 01/10/2012 13:41

OMG I'm actually having a baby next month Shock Grin Maybe even this month if he's early. Wow wow wow.

Peaky1 · 01/10/2012 14:15

Aw sorry to hear about all those feeling rough. Hows your daughter now VQ?

I have started experiencing SPD for the first time over the past few days and my goodness it hurts! I have resorted to walking like a constipated emperor penguin!! It's gutting because all I want to do is lounge on my low sofa but it'll take me 3 weeks to get out of the damn thing again so I sit on the gym ball, which does also take it's toll after a while! I'm even sat on a gym ball at work now because the chairs feel so unforgiving after a while.

Called my surgery again about whooping cough and there's still no news on when they'll get the vaccine or when clinics will start. Have called the midwife too but she's not responded yet.

I wonder if this sleeping tip will help anyone. I was having terrible hip and leg pain when sleeping on my side so I resorted to propping up on pillows. This was ok for one night but then physics took it's toll with most of my body weight pressing down into my hips at that angle and my sleep got worse. This has worked for me - putting a cushion (flat-ish) under my waist (lying on my side) so that it maintains my spinal alignment (soz, physio head kicking in) and also sticks out enough to support my bump - which has been weighing my spine in 2 directions with the bump causing a twist forwards and the weight to cause a lateral flex down into the bed. When I say waist I mean the bit that would normally leave a gap if you laid on your side on the floor (if you're lucky). I've been sleeping so much better since and haven't even needed to prop up on many pillows! Mind you, my heartburn doesn't keep me up. Aaaaanyway, thought I would share.

P.S. Last day at work tomorrow! Wahooooo!

ditsygem · 01/10/2012 14:25

My pram just arrived - woo! However its the Icandy peach 2 in Berry bon bon and the "berry" colour which looked quite red in the pictures is actually really a dark pink in real life. We are having a baby boy- is everyone going to assume its a girl with a buggy that has pink on it? does it really matter?
Here's a link to it, but as I say imagine the redish colour being a dark but definite pink!

Evilwater · 01/10/2012 14:30

Hello ladies,
I'm writing this from the bath, as its the only way for the pain to be an ache. I was wrong, it not back ache, but bad period pain.
Evil

Titsalinabumsquash · 01/10/2012 14:38

Are you in labour Evil? Should you be calling someone? Sorry I can't remember your situation in regards to when you're due and if you're having ELCS or what, but. Bad period pain should be checked!

Evilwater · 01/10/2012 14:46

No, it's not reglaur. If it carries on then I will.
Evil

kirrinIsland · 01/10/2012 15:04

Keep a close eye on that evil - and perhaps a quick call to the labour ward / midwife? Hope it eases off.

ditsey people may well assume it's a girl but that only matters if it bothers you? Would you have ordered it if you'd seen the colour beforehand? And if not, what's the returns policy? Have you got time to send it back and get another?

I am writing this from my bed with the house to myself! In my defence I did get a fair amount done this morning, including finally getting the baby clothes out from behind the wardrobe - they are being washed as I type :)

applepieinthesky · 01/10/2012 15:08

You are almost full term now aren't you evil? Keep an eye on it and see if it eases.

ditsygem · 01/10/2012 15:13

evil please get checked out if it doesn't ease - you never know at this stage when one of our little ones might decide to show up!
Thanks KirrinIsland I'm not sure if it bothers me or not, think I'll wait to my DH gets home and see what he thinks. I'm not really into gender stereotypes and the whole blue for a boy thing, but at the same time I worry a bit that people will think its very odd to have a boy in quite a girly buggy! Maybe I am over thinking this!

DebussyHead · 01/10/2012 15:19

ditsy I got the iCandy Peach in Sweat pea (which is blue) for my DD1 and I knew I was having a girl. I just liked the colour and thought if we have a second and its a boy it will be fine. Am now expecting a boy. I wouldn't worry. I also bought a turquoise Lin and Leo change bag with DD1.

Evil hope you are ok! Call maternity assesment just to be sure.

Re Whooping cough saga I just rang my surgery again (having spoken to clueless midwives and GP receptionists on Friday afternoon) and info must have finally filtered through - they now say they are getting the vaccines in on Thursday 4th and to ring back then. I explained I was 35 weeks so could I not just make an appointment now for Friday and she rather huffily agreed but said I must ring on Thursday to make sure they had actually arrived! But good news is have appointment for Friday and hopefully an available vaccine. Im in Glasgow btw whatever PCT that is.

YellowWellies · 01/10/2012 15:22

ditsy it's a lovely looking buggy! I would say it's only on the pram setting where it'll be obvious as your wee one will be covered in blankets etc in the pushchair setting - you could always get a different coloured foot muff if it offends? I do hate it when they get the colours wrong on pictures it is so hard to buy something when they are inaccurate.

Peaky great tip on the pillow under the 'waist' (I use that term loosely in my case) - am going to try that tonight.

Evil call yer MW woman... am worrying about you.

Evilwater · 01/10/2012 15:28

I've phoned the midwife, they said call back in an hour.
Evil.

jaylee89 · 01/10/2012 15:34

evil please please go if it gets to bad this is what hapened to me last week....had back ache and period pains.

hope you feel better my dearest xx

ValiumQueen · 01/10/2012 15:38

evil hmm! Might be your lucky day!

Sorry ladies, I thought I had updated this thread too. Public Health told me that an email has gone to GPs (in Scotland) to say to vaccinate opportunistically to those who cannot wait until 15th. I.e. if we call surgery, they should vaccinate us as we are pushing it time-wise. If we miss it, we will be given it post delivery. I will test the theory tomorrow and report back.

DD1, it appears, is getting better at lying. There was no incident at school on Friday, so meeting today was a bit awkward. We have, however, worked out a temporary plan for mornings and afternoons. I will take DD to breakfast club, which she loves anyway, and the boy will be collected early from the office, so they will not come into contact with each other. This will be reviewed after half term. The school feels things are getting better, so hopefully nothing else will happen. I still wish he was in a different class, but appreciate they need good reasons to do this. The mum has worked out which girl it is and is very upset apparently, saying 'I thought we got on well with her parents'. It is so tricky and sad. Hopefully I can get a chance to have a coffee with her some time to clear the air.

Evilwater · 01/10/2012 15:40

Feeling better now, I think the paratemol has kicked in. Gone from an pain to an ache.
Evil

ValiumQueen · 01/10/2012 15:44

ditsy that is a scrummy pram! It would not have been cheap, so if you are not 100% happy with the colour, return it. It is a lovely colour, and does look dark pink on my screen, but only you can decide that one. Could you get a replacement in time? How do you feel about the other colours? Does it really matter? Lovely pram though.

Evilwater · 01/10/2012 15:58

No pain now, I feel a bit of a fraud. Sorry to worry you all.
Ditsy that pram does look nice.
Evil

Evilwater · 01/10/2012 16:00

I wouldn't say it was pink, more a burgundy colour.
Evil

NervousAt20 · 01/10/2012 16:11

Glad your feeling better evil if you have any more then call your MW back it really is best to get checked

VQ how well you get along with the boys parents isn't really relevant, he still can't behave how he is but because parents get along doesn't mean it should be ignored. At least the school have something in place

ditsy that's a very nice pram! If its something that bothers you then I would try and return and get something your happy with but I don't see a problem with putting a little boy in it if your happy too
