Quickie on way to hols to report great scan at 20 wks, all perfectly perfect for dates & a good lOng & thorough look at anatomy. No peeking at boy/girl bits despite temptation!

Happy family Pom :)

theTramp · 07/10/2012 16:18

Funky - my plan is to buy a bog standard junk shop chest of draws. Get some wood to edge the top of it - effectively creating a raised frame around it, which is simple enough that even a carpentry pleb like me can do it (although I suspect MrM will do it) - sand it down so it is nice and smooth then paint the whole thing blue or red so it fits the room. The plastic changing mats that you get for babies are cheap as chips, less than a tenner on amazon, and have cushioned edging. I'll pop all the nappy bits and bobs in the draws and I'll use a basket for things like talc and cream - or whatever else I need - which can hang off the side of it.

Gummi - I'm not a flump on the floor kind of a girl, but I know a lot of people prefer to do that. Somewhere nice and high up that both MrM and I can reach without lots of bending etc will work better for us. I know it means you can't really leave baby alone - but it will mean less having to remember to have all key bits & bobs to hand or getting up and down like a jack in the box. I've probably just revealed how disorganised & forgetful I am there. :)

Ethel - thank you. The choice is between Bugaboo cameleon and the Vista. Vista is cheaper and folds down better BUT not as well known a make and relatively new to UK market so less likely to be able to buy second hand. Bugaboo is v popular, so easy enough to buy a second hand vsn, but it is also more expensive. I did like the little cup holders that went with it - one for Mum or Dads coffee and one for toddlers cup or babies bottle, nice touch I thought. Pro's and con's to both and if bought new nearly £200 price difference.

Pink - oh you're Battersea. We're in Forest Hill, so a nice stroll to Dulwich College. There's lots of good schools around here it seems and I'm not sure paying for private is within our financial grasp at this point (although hopefully in the future it will) but I do know the college has a good rep and the grounds and building are beautiful. Next time you are in that part of the world should you fancy a coffee and a dogfather just shout!

Have been for a nice walk with parents following a good cooked breakfast with them plus MrM. He is now off to Jordan and they've headed back home so it is just me and the cats. I should get some work/reading done but am feeling a bit sleepy and lazy so I am thinking crap film and take-out. So bad.

Hope everyone's sundays were lovely.

ZOey what a lovely surprise! And Three how lovely of you to give your friend a blanket :)
Just found out our friends in Switzerland are expecting twins - so happy for them - she's a couple of weeks ahead of me.
Starting to make lists about what we need for the baby - you all seem so organised. Am reluctant to buy anything until I know if/when we are having our loft extension done as storage will be a problem.
Been out today watching DH & friends run a charity 10K for the Willow Foundation - he did it in 48mins, very proud! I just ate the pub lunch afterwards and now I feel very, very full indeed.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 07/10/2012 16:53

Yeah tramp I must admit when my friend said she was getting the uppababy, I had never even heard of them! But it is lovely.
We had a second hand mamas and papas pramette which we used until DD was about 3 months and from then on used a maclaren triumph which my mum bought us. We now have a Phil and teds as well, so will probs just use that with the cocooon for LO.

pink we have friends live in your neck of the woods. Quite near Clapham Common but address is Battersea I think. Have stayed with them s couple of times and it's always struck me as a v nice area!

ZOey that is very thoughtful of your DH. I am very impressed! DH is not really getting into the swing of things yet. I think once we get DD's 3rd birthday and Christmas out of the way, he'll start to get interested!

Just on the jabs discussion, I will defo be having whatever they offer. I had flu when I was last pg and felt so poorly. I don't think i have ever been so ill. And that was around the time I had my MMC. I have no idea if the two were in any way connected, but I guess it is always at the back of my mind that they might have been, cos I just felt so poorly and had several days in bed, which is not like me at all! So yes, I'll be having the jabs.

It's been a beautiful day here, but not really enjoyed it as have spent nearly all day tidying and cleaning. Even though ILs aren't coming now, I still want the house to be something like for when DH gets back on Friday. DD has been a big 'help' as you can imagine! Grin

Bambi86 · 07/10/2012 17:11

Hello! Been a while (two whole threads!)...! You all love to talk Grin.hope you're all ok and well.

I've been away for a while, been incredibly poorly with ms. Just throwing up lunch and dinner recently, which is an improvement! Desert doesn't seem to make me sick, funnily enough Wink on my second portion of banoffee pie!

16 weeks on Wednesday, have not put on any weight- hoping this is normal? can't wait for 20week scan, everyone seems so far ahead of me- I'm very jealous!

Right, better be off- third round of pudding coming up! Xxx

Funnylittleturkishdelight · 07/10/2012 18:14

Oh bambi that sounds rubbish! Glad to hear it has improved and I hope it continues to do so!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 07/10/2012 18:22

Oh bambi that sounds awful. Really feel for you. I am just over 16 weeks too, so you're not on your own!

Sheldonella · 07/10/2012 18:36

Hi everyone. Just got back from my parents and read the many many posts I have missed! Very tired as yesterday was a long day shopping and today I did the garden for my parents. I've been very achey so probably won't be doing that again for a while.

We went baby shopping and my mum wanted to buy the whole shop! DH and I tried out some prams and I think we ave settled on the Phil & teds navigator. We didn't buy anything but did come back with lots of nappies that my mum has been saving for us for a while Smile

Thanks for the pram and car seat info. Sorry for not chatting more but I must eat!

The meet ups sound fun but I'm struggling for free weekends and energy at the moment. Hopefully will be able to come to one sometime though.

Have a nice evening everyone.

zoeymlucas · 07/10/2012 19:10

Bambi that sounds awful for you and I really hope you start feeling better soon it's awful being poorly.

Glad you had a fab day shopping Sheld and am not surprised your tired I am very jealous you went as even the thought makes me tired, lol!

Congrats to your DH on his run Lexi and loving your support at watching him

TheAngelshavetheOod · 07/10/2012 19:13

Had a fab party but feeling rough now. Achy, shooting pains in my hips/legs and cold kicking in big time with wheezing, snot and using my inhalers set the palpitations again [ rolls eyes]

GummiberryJuice · 07/10/2012 19:37

Ood I spent day cleaning I'm now wrecked, time for a soak in bath easy our sore hips

lannyshrops · 07/10/2012 19:46

Hey all! Just checking in! It sounds like you have all had lovely weekends!
Glad you have a fab party ood although sorry you feel ill now Sad
Lovely gift from you OH zoey, i'd love a cradle but not sure if the budget will stretch!
jojo glad you're out and about and back to it tomorrow, good luck!

We have had a busy weekend, nursery and extention furnishing shopping yesterday and then out in the evening for a dinner thing. all wonderful as now have furniture ordered for extention, flooring bought and beans nursery wallpaper and accessories bought!
Needless to say I am paying for it today, I have been feeling v tired and achy, I really should learn! Have moped about today doing house jobs and wondering how long it is untill I can go back to bed!

TheAngelshavetheOod · 07/10/2012 19:48

Enjoy the bath gummi I'm tempted but dh's back has gone & I can't get in/out on my own :(

zoeymlucas · 07/10/2012 19:49

Just learnt a valuable lesson that I am sure no one else is stupid enough to do when shaving legs in shower put the razor down BEFORE scratching your itch as the result is a lot of blood, loads of pain and a boob that looks like I either self harm or had a fumble with Edward Scissorhands- what a complete idiot I am!! I called DH and he just looked and asked how I managed it, then helped stop it bleeding!!

Hamnvik · 07/10/2012 20:55

Hello IWantAChipButty here, fancied a name change!

Ouch Zoey that sounds painful. Hope it doesn't bleed too much!

Sorry to hear some of you are still being sick or feeling rotten, everyone in my office is I'll at the moment touch wood I have managed to avoid it but I doubt that will last!

Had a good day today went baby things shopping and have decided on the Graco Evo I think, it ticks all the boxes so we will probably buy it after the 20 weeks scan.

What does everyone think of their midwifes btw? I am really not keen on mine she is really negative about everything and I know a few bad stories about her from woman at work so I am thinking of asking to change but I don't know if I'm being over dramatic?

zoeymlucas · 07/10/2012 21:01

Hey hamn fx crossed you mange to avoid the office germs- that's how I got ill- stupid people bringing it in with them!!!

I am not overly keen on my MW either, she is perfectly lovely and friendly but don't know much- like tried pulling hips around when she booked me in so shoud know I have had 2 hip replacements and hyper mobility!!! She told me she knows nothing on an incompetent cervix (which I have ) so she googled it, I know she can't have knowledge on everything but it don't fill me with relief when she tells me se googled it!!!!! I was going to change but as most of my care is consultant I won't really see her! However if your not comfatable with yours change- you don't want a newborn and her around it will put you on edge

JoJoBella84 · 07/10/2012 21:03

Ouch zoey that sounds painful!!

hamnvik my Aberdeen MW is lovely, I've not met my York one yet, when I booked in she was on holiday :) she seems lovely on the phone though. I have loads of questions for her tomorrow and hope I can talk her into listening for the heartbeat :)

Lexiindisguise · 07/10/2012 22:03

Ouch zoey sounds sore!
Hamnvik mine seems OK, quite matter of fact but that suits me. If you aren't comfortable I would change.
Just found a weight gain chart & as I suspected I've piled on more than I should have so far - I blame the sweet tooth I never had until pregnancy! Sad Am obviously not going to diet but am going to cut back on the sugary stuff as it's not good for me or baby. Am also really missing running (although I was more of a jog/walker tbh) & determined to be a bit more active... Just wish I had more energy!

Vivee74 · 07/10/2012 23:34

I was not keen on my mw either. She just wanted to finish and go home. Was of no help at all. saw GP for my 16 week appointment and she much more helpful and agreed with me on a few points.. anyway at my practice you get one of two mw on duty so will make sure I don't see that one again. Had always hoped to build up a good relationship with my mw but that doesn't seem to be how they work it in my borough unfortunately.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 08/10/2012 09:09

My mw seems ok, but have only seen her once so far! Hopefully it will be her I see again this week. But then after that I won't see her for another 12 weeks as will see a hosp mw for 20 wk apt and then dont have another regular apt til 28 weeks! I don't like all these massive gaps between apts!

Just trying to gather together enough enthusiam to get ready for DDs swimming class. Not been for weeks so should have a bit more motivation really!

mandasand · 08/10/2012 09:15

Morning!

I'm going to boast and say I'm feeling quite chipper today Smile Had a lie-in (DH got train instead of twice-as-long bus) and we had a lovely cuddle + shag. I can recommend this as a nice way to start the week! Grin Also, we've got most of the up+downstairs halls and stairwell painted and I think I might submit my book today or Weds. But, we'll see. Printed the thing out last night and today am reading it and plugging gaps.

Missed loads of lovely chat since I popped in yesterday morning!

Meant to say that FB chatter is heading in the direction of two Marchers meet-ups in Birmingham and York. Good ideas?

Possom I know! Halfway!! That's pretty damn cool.

Zoey never been to Abingdon Fair but it sounds good! Bugger, am out tonight (mocktails with old friend who has 5yr old twins), travelling back from London tomorrow early eve. then Paris Weds-Sun. Thanks for the heads up! Next year maybe! I LOVE your fabulous DH and his surprises! What a fabulous thing to do!

Ethel glad you reclaimed the day today! Not long now till your DH is back. Just got to get through the week. I'm heading to Paris on Weds (with DH coming out on Friday) and he's a bit upset about missing two days with the bump, bless him! not me, mind, but the bump, he said!

JoJo hope MW appt goes well today - do definitely demand heartbeat! Surprised you haven't been given a reassuring scan. But heartbeat-hearing will do! Amazing that you're up and about so quickly - impressed!

Emus glad you've some Mac functionality. And hurray for your OH! Mine (a software engineer) is my no.1 go to person with computer problems (I think my IT department are even less helpful than yours!) Good luck with packing.

Bambi sorry you're feeling so poorly still Sad Hope you feel better soon! I loooove hot ribena!

Lexi well done to your DH on his run!

Tiddley hurray for your fab scan + holiday!

Pink Your school situation sounds stressful, wow! I went to a fee-paying school, but with a government funded assisted (i.e. almost free) place. The education and other opportunities were leagues ahead of what was available locally, but I doubt v. much we will be going private. For one thing I think Oxford is a different kettle of fish in many ways from where I grew up. I do believe in the state school system as a concept (apart from what I hear about academies) and I think DH and I can give children a broader base of life experience/home education than was available to me as a kid (DH and I are thinking Latin club on Saturday mornings and mechanical engineering projects in the afternoon ? they'll hate us!) Ah, I meant OU as in Open University tutorials. I teach one Sat a month and do distance-learning support and assignment marking. I love it! I will, however, hopefully be entering that lovely OUPress building with my book (probably Weds, on my way to the Eurostar!) I love everyone who works there - they are all so lovely! That grey paint is still on my mind, but I really can't ask DH to paint the walls again. He said he would, if I insisted, but it's done now and there's nothing objectively wrong with the colour, it's just a lot lighter than expected and I don't love it as I think I would with the grey! I'll keep it on file for 5 years time, though! Bad news about the dress! Did you bring it in with a belt? Sorry for the bad recommendation! Will you send it back?

zoeymlucas · 08/10/2012 09:55

Amanda I am very jealous how you rmember to reply to everyone - I feel lucky to remember my own name let alone anyone else :)

Am very sore today as DH rolled over in sleep and kneed me very hard in my back but couldnt shout to loud as I know he would never do it on purpose!

If I am honest I am struggling with DH bein so attentive and doing surprises and doing everything for me at the mo. The thing is when I was pregnant with DS2 I found he had been texting other woman - he had never met them or anything but they were ex's and some of the messages were very ummm detailed and we split up for a few weeks and things were not great for a while. So now I feel he is trying too hard and trying to compensate for that as last time I felt so awful and low and not good enough that this time he is trying to make amends and I feel its a bit much sometimes and he can try too hard.

backwardpossom · 08/10/2012 09:59

Morning all! That does sounds a nice way to start the week manda! [;)]

I've just bought a Rose and Rebellion carrier through Zulily. They're normally £80, but they're £58 today on Zulily and there's a further 20% off with the code MUMSNET20. So, £46.40 is a bit of a bargain! (They sell second hand on ebay for about £50!) Link to them on R+R website. Very chuffed. Now all I need is a Moby wrap for when he/she is a newborn :)
